Restricting Internet Access To Particular Users On XP?

May 28, 2011

got myself the Netgear internal PCI wifi adapter today & it works just fine on my Windows XP SP3 desktop.

The only problem I have is the question of restricting complete internet access to kids @ home. If it was an external USB adapter, I could have just taken it away but the concern is the device being an internal & always available one.

The user configuration on the PC is such that there is 1 main administrator (The actual windows "administrator" account) that no one uses. Apart from that,

- 1 user with admin privileges (me)

- 1 limited account for the kid

- 1 admin privilege account for the kid again (for purposes like installation of games which require an admin account as mandatory)

I would like for the wifi PCI card to work only when I login to my user account. There must be someway by which I could disable the device or make the internet inaccessible in the other accounts,, (but pls bear that 1 of the account that the kid uses also has admin privilege)

I tried disabling the device from control panel but in vain.. (tried something like the sys admins do in corporates ..) disabling the usb ports on the PC's in my office..!

Unresponsive Router - Stopped Allowing Wireless Internet Access

Nov 3, 2012

My Netgear wireless router had been working just fine and then inexplicably stopped allowing wireless internet access. My modem is fine. I contacted my internet service provider, and no luck. I unplugged the router's power source and plugged it back it in. Still not working. I switched the power on and off. Nothing. I do not know what to try next.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Allowing User To Access Internet After Entering Email Address

May 25, 2013

I have 5508 controller in my lab. I am working on a project to set up a public internet but with some condition.

- User should able to connect to the SSID without any authentication.

- Once user will connec to the SSID it should redirect to an external URL which indicates terms and condition and email address field.

- User should enter his/her email address in email addrss filed and click I accept button.

- Once that is done then he/she is allowed to access internet.

We are not sure how can we achive this as I do not know what should be the return value for WLC to allow that user to go through or what should be the settings on the WLC to redirect to the page.

I have seen a settings on web authentication for external URL but I guess it is only for username passwor or Radius authentication. While in this case I do not want to use any authentication just an accept buttor or Decline button and all good to go.

Local Access Only - Router Not Allowing Access To Internet?

May 18, 2011

Abruptly internet access disappeared. It's a router issue, none of the computers here can connect. Further, I can't access the router through a browser - 192.168.0.1 results in a "Firefox cannot connect" message. I've tried resetting the DNS to no avail. I'm typing via cell phone and it's annoying, but I'm willing to try about anything.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Not Allowing Internet Access?

Jan 14, 2012

I just bought the 655, mainly for school/Xbox. My parents use it also, but I bought it for myself mainly (shh). I set it up correctly and got connected, but suddenly I wasn't allowed Internet access. The router connects to my laptop, but won't get Internet access. I called customer service and he didn't know what to do. We tried everything he knew and nothing worked. I don't want to return the router cause I read it was very good, but I need internet for school. I have Rev. A and F/W 2.00.

Belkin Routers :: N450 - Blocking Internet But Allowing LAN Access?

Nov 16, 2012

Belkin N450 Router. I want to restrict Internet access completely but allow LAN access to a shared drive for a particular computer on my wireless network. I have gone into the web based set up page and under access controls have enabled and added this computer to the list. I have blocked http, https, ftp and nntp. I don't know if this is enough. The reason I am asking is that I am in Iraq right now and I want to allow my fellow team members access to the wireless for using viber on their iphones but one cat even though he has hardwired internet wants to continuously suck off my wireless for his computer to download stuff since I paid for faster internet. I am trying to do this quietly and still allow him access to the shared drives on the LAN. Sooooo If I block him just outright will he still have access to the drives or do I need to pick and choose like I did above and if I need to pick and choose did I miss anything other then pop3 email and imap?

Cisco Firewall :: Allowing Internet Access Only For Specific Computers On PIX 501?

Jan 8, 2012

I'm a college student working on a lab involving a Cisco PIX 501 Firewall.

My project involves 1 computer and a firewall. My goal is to use the firewall to allow access to the internet for that computer which uses a static IP 192.168.1.5 and ONLY for that IP address. The firewall is connected to the internet.

I have the computer hooked up to the firewall with the serial and using hyper terminal to enter commands. I think I need to use access lists in order to deny traffic on those ports for those particular hosts. I can't figure out exactly how I need to set it up.

What I need to do is permit internet access for 192.168.1.5 alone. Any other IP should not be able to access the internet.

I tried:

access-list 1 permit tcp host 192.168.1.5 any eq 80
access-group 1 in interface inside

I cannot access the internet using the computer with 192.168.1.5. The goal is to be able to access with that IP and no other.

Restricting The Neighbor For The Wireless Internet

May 29, 2012

I have a neighbor, whom I barely know, (don't know his name even) ask if I would be willing to give him the number off of my modem so he can cannot wireless to my internet. I believe that is a bad idea. For one I don't know him but if it was possible and I did that, would he be able to access my account? or start more trouble? He at first said If I give him the numbers off of my router but then I stopped him because I have a modem not a router. So I would never let him but was curious if someone can tap into a signal of mine from a laptop next door to me using wireless signal? And if so can that person see all of my stuff? Would my computer and I be at risk?

ASUS RTN66U - Access Internet Through Network Machine With Dongle?

Oct 31, 2012

I have an ASUS RTN66U running Tomato firmware.I have temporary (a month or so) Internet access via a Huawei E3131 3G USB dongle. I am posting this question using said Internet access.

I would like other machines on my network to be able to access the Internet in the usual fashion. That is, through my ASUS router. My initial thought was to plug the dongle into the router and configure it to connect. However, it seems tomato does not support my dongle because I get a message to that effect in the log.

So my next thought was to "point" my router at my Windows machine which has the dongle plugged into it. Thus, any machine connecting to the router would then route through my Windows machine to the Internet.

Restricting Shared Folder Access Windows 7?

Mar 3, 2011

We have recently ordered a laptop along with a docking station with the intention of connecting it with the desktop PC in the office. We want the documents folders of both computers to be synchronized and to that end we want to share the folders between each computer. However, to do so we will have to connect the laptop to the larger network in our office. Given the sensitive nature of the documents we only want the desktop PC and the laptop to be able to access these files and synchronize them.

Is there anyway in Windows 7 to specify exactly which computers are allowed access to shared folders on a computer? What's the best way to achieve the file synchronization between the two?

Should I only use Passive FTP and what range of ports above 1023 should I open for only 1 or 2 FTP clients at a time? Also if I use Passive mode do I need to use protocol inspection for FTP?Also, Currently I'm unsure of what files need to be accessed on our network but should the SFTP Server always only be installed within the DMZ?

Cisco WAN :: 2901 Terminal Server And Restricting Access

Apr 19, 2011

I have a Cisco 2901 Terminal server with AAA authentication via ACS server.  I create twoaccounts on the acs server, cciesec2011 and vendor.  Both accounts can log into the Cisco 2901 Terminal Server without any issues.  By the way, I am NOT using AAA authorization on the  Cisco Terminal Server.  Once cciesec2011 or vendor accounts are authenticated, theseaccounts can access all the async line on the Cisco Terminal Server.

Now I have a new requirements.  I would like to allow cciesec2011, once this account is successfully authenticated, this account has access to ALL async line on the Terminal Server.  The "vendor" account, I want to restrict this account access only to async line 35 (there are 32 async lines available on the Cisco Terminal Server) and nothing else.

How can I accomplish without using AAA authorization on the Cisco Terminal Server? Is it possible to use "privlege level" to accomplish this?  if so, how?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 - Allowing Guest Wireless Network Access To Internal Subnets

Jan 23, 2012

We have a Cisco wireless infrastructure in place that includes a guest network with its own subnet that is a sub interface of the inside interface on our ASA 5520.  There are no routes for it to be allowed access to the internal subnets.  So it can only access the internet.  This is primarily used by the public, but we have several non employee personnel that we only want to give internet access and force them to access the internal network through our clientless SSL vpn portal or through other internet facing internal resources such as webmail.I have done packet traces from within the ASA and the break appears to be there is no ACL allowing the traffic back into the network once the web resource replies to the request and the traffic is attempting to come back into the network from the web resource.  Is that as clear as mud?

I know that this has to be a common problem and a way around this is to allow the guest wireless network access to the internal network but only for the select resources that they require.  And that this can be done seemlessly by network specific routes and or alternate DNS entries, but I would like to keep this simple and just allow them to access the web resource, webmail and VPN, from the guest wireless using internet DNS servers without route trickery.

One day BOTH TV's could no longer connect. However, The tv's will connect to another access point. therefore the problem does not exist in the TV/s and has to be a problem in my access point (I.E. ASUS Netbook Cannot Connect To Wireless Networks - Limited Access

Oct 19, 2012

I have: ASUS Netbook with Windows 7 Starter.

As of last night, I cannot connect to any of the wireless networks I use every day (my personal home network or my school's WPA2).

The signal strength is very good, but it says "Limited Access" next to the network name. Apparently "Limited" means "No" because I am not connected. Here's what happened:Lavasoft Ad-Aware was blocking a site that I needed to access. I haven't used Ad-Aware in months, and it did not even appear to be running. So uninstalled it with Add/Remove programs in the control panel. BUT, mid-way through the uninstallation, I got a blue screen and my computer restarted. When my computer booted back up, I could no longer connect to my home's wireless. I'm at school now and I cannot connect here either. Ad-aware is gone from the add/remove programs list, but there is still an Ad-Aware folder in Program Files. The folder still has a bunch of stuff in it, including adaware.exe. I dont see an uninstaller (but i havent really investigated that yet). so now i can't connect to any network. Here's What I've TriedRan troubleshooter. Useless. Turned off my netbook's wireless. turned it back on. Device manager says my Network Adapters are working fine. No yellow or red icons next to them. also tried resetting stuff with the command prompt. something about winsock and netsh. I don't know what I was doing though. just following instructions from other people on yahoo answers when i googled the problem.
