Cisco Firewall :: ASA-3-106001 - Inbound TCP Connection Denied From Flags SYN

Jun 24, 2012

I have 2 cisco routers that resired on the same interface on Cisco ASA. For security reasons, on both of the routers I have configured default gateway to be ASA interface, then static route between them on the ASA, I get the following error when on station comming from first router trying to connect to another station behind secound router (again, on the same interface, maybe this is the issue?).

ASA-3-106001: Inbound TCP connection denied from flags SYN

There is access list allowing traffic between but hit count is 0

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Inbound TCP Connection Denied

I configured an ASA 5505 a couple of weeks ago. Every thing is working properly except it sends irritating messages to the syslog server. Her is an example of the message:

%ASA-2-106001: Inbound TCP connection denied from 195.215.221.56/80 to 10.70.13.90/252 flags PSH ACK on interface outside

Cisco Firewall :: Asa5510 Idle TCP Connection Timeout With Flags

May 14, 2012

I have ASA 5510 with 8.2.4 and 8.0.x OS and all seem to have common problem of idle TCP connections not timing out. The host to host connections are coming over VPN tunnels. I have default timeouts on all the firewalls. I have tried changing global timeouts and as well as host specific timeouts using MPF but doesn't work at all ! The problem is when TCP connections are sitting idle in conn table for days and when connection limit of 50,000 conns reach the firewall starts behaving unpredictably dropping packets or unresponsive! I need the unused idle connections to timeout which is NOT happening either by changing global values or MPF.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 106001 Error Most Likely Due To Interface Subnetting

Sep 16, 2012

I have a slew of 106001 messages coming into ASA log, from the outside interface. it appears like most of them are for standard traffic, such as TCP 80/443. i suspect these messages are from clients on the inside who have initiated connections to the internet, but then the client abruptly terminates application of something similar. Server side finally issues a close connection, reset or something else. Here is an example, with the ASA address being 1.1.1.195 (changed to protect the innocent ).

Another theory is that the NAT ip for clients is different than the actual interface IP, so that is behaving differently. For example, once the xlate times out, the IP used for the xlate is no longer active and any return packets to the interface would also error out - be refused. If the xlate was using the interface IP, that it would always respond in some way?

I can bump 106001 down to notification (5) or informational (6) level.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 - 106001 Syslog Events For Internal Hosts?

Jul 26, 2011

I've just taken over a new network with a Cisco ASA5520. Everything is working fine, except I am being bombarded with 106001 alerts from a few internal hosts to one specific internal host. The description in general is "Inbound TCP connection denied from 10.1.0.1 to 10.1.0.5 - both of those are valid internal hosts and the TCP ports are also valid. I tried looking at the log and getting it me to tell me which rule was causing these alerts, but it just came back with 'It's not possible for these type of alerts'

- How is it possible for the ASA to even pick up on this when, in theory, the source host wouldn't be going near the ASA since it's on the same subnet?

- What might be causing this?

- How can I turn it off!! (I guess that'd be fixed by point 2)

Cisco Firewall :: Tcp Flags And Timeout On ASA55XX 8.4(3)

Oct 18, 2012

I would like to understand someting about the behaviour of ASA with our traffic scenario and the management of  tcp sessions.

1) In particular we noticed that we have connections with the flags Fin without any acknowledgement. The session is silent (the bytes counters aren't incremented) but it remains in the session table as an established connection with the idle timeout of an established conn.

We have about 20%  (60K on 300K total) of conns in this state: at our eyes it seems to be an incorrect behaviour...

TCP OUTSIDE 62.149.128.151:110 INSIDE 10.254.158.12:61527, idle 0:11:36, bytes 433, flags UFIO
TCP OUTSIDE 17.151.0.200:443 INSIDE 10.254.229.94:52367, idle 0:01:25, bytes 4597, flags UfIO
TCP OUTSIDE 184.169.79.33:443 INSIDE 10.255.249.146:60143, idle 0:10:39, bytes 5590, flags UFIO
TCP OUTSIDE 157.55.235.158:80 INSIDE 10.170.37.102:62421, idle 0:00:53, bytes 1770, flags UfIO

2) On the connections considered as half -closed we have received an ack to the fin (r or R flag is present), we would like to set the idle timeout to a value lower than 5 minutes but we were not able to reach that result

timeout pat-xlate 0:00:30
timeout conn 0:10:00 half-closed 0:05:00 udp 0:02:00 icmp 0:00:02
!
access-list timeoutClass extended permit tcp any any eq www
access-list timeoutClass extended permit tcp any any eq 8080
class-map timeoutClass
match access-list timeoutClass
class timeoutClass

3) And this type of conns with a Fin on both side that I'm not able to understand... with an ack on one of the side how can I have the other fin??

TCP OUTSIDE 69.171.247.38:443 INSIDE 10.168.139.244:51236, idle 0:11:28, bytes 10536, flags UfFIO

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 Inbound Traffic On Backup ISP Connection

Nov 3, 2011

I have a client that has an ASA 5520 that has two internet connections, FIOS and Comcast.  The ASA is configured to failover from the FIOS to the Comcast if the FIOS fails.  This works perfectly fine.  However, I was wondering if VPN and other inbound traffic will come into the secondary connection when it is active.  I think VPN will work inbound when the FIOS connection fails, but I am not sure about the other inbound connections.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 - Flags SYN ACK On Interface Dmz1

Jul 12, 2012

I know this issue probably has been beat to death, but I have yet to find the answer to my situation. We recently upgraded from a PIX515e to ASA5520. Shortly after the install I noticed a problem with the servers on our DMZ. This problem was NOT present with our old 515e. The problem is that there seems to be a communication problem between servers on the DMZ, specifically when I try to open the web server homepage from my mail server, I get time-outs. When I ping between the two in either direction, I get time-outs. This might seem trivial, but I have other data servers on the DMZ that need to communicate between themselves.

When we question the tech that performed the install, his answer was that there might be a problem with the switch the servers are connected to, or the servers might have a virus. He stated the process of ping should never involve the DMZ interface. And yes, our DMZ interface IP is the gateway for the servers. Now, if the DMZ (ASA) should never come into play with a ping, why when I turned on logging did I receive the error below? It sounds to me that the ping is going through the interface. Here are a few of the errors on the DMZ with the specific server IPs.

july 13 2012 12:50:04 106014 10.10.0.10 10.10.0.5 Deny inbound icmp src dmz1 10.10.0.10 dst dmz1 10.10.0.5 type 8, code 0

The ping problem was only used as an example the demonstrate that there is a comm problem on the DMZ. ASA is running in router mode.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 Flow Is Denied By Configured Rule

May 28, 2013

I am attempting to allow traffic from one vlan to another.Vlan 1 is on Interface 0/2.vlan1Vlan 2 is on int 0/3.vlan2Each vlan can communicate inside it's own vlan, and the gateway on each responds to vlan specific clients My problem is that I am unable to communicate between the two vlans.  Using the ASDM packet tracer tool, I find that packets are denied by the default rule (on the second Access List lookup).  It appears as if the packet never reaches the other interface.  The access rules are set up to allow traffic from one vlan to another (inbound), on both interfaces.  Testing from either vlan to connect to the other fails.  Below are the accee-rules for each vlans.  Once I get basic connectivity working.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 Q.264 Video From Axis Outdoor Camera Denied

Apr 9, 2012

I have a customer with a Cisco ASA 5510 firewall, an inside network containing a Genetec video recording server, and cameras installed on broadband modems throughout the area (each with a public IP). They've recently purchased Axis Q6034-E cameras that use H.264 to stream back to the video recording server. The camera has a view mode where you can watch it through H.264 or Motion JPEG. The view with M-JPEG works, but when I switch to H.264 the video stream is denied. We have allowed RTSP, RTP, and HTTP (it's setup with only http, not 443)traffic from the camera address on the cable company public network but are still being denied the video stream. The recording software requires that the feed come from the H.264 feed, so the motion jpeg does not fix the underlying issue of being able to record.

We know it's the firewall because if we install the camera on the inside network, the video feed in H.264 works to the recorder.

How to enable something special on the firewall to allow traffic through from the device?

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 - Denied Due To NAT Reverse Path Failure - Asymmetric

Jul 4, 2012

I am trying to lock down the VPN access on my Cisco 5520 ASA's whereby I wish not to allow users to SSH access etc on servers running on the same interface that they are VPNing into.

I did not originally configure the ASA and so I am slightly confused by some config on it. Currently when I attempt to PING a server within the same interface as the VPN network I get the following error in the logs below.

5    Jul 05 2012    09:45:15    305013    monitoringsystem                Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for icmp src dmzAHdata:VPN IP dst AHdata:monitoringsystem (type 8, code 0) denied due to NAT reverse path failure

As a workaround I created a NAT exempt rule which then allowed traffic to the server in question however I wish to limit the traffic to only ICMP and when I do this in the firewall it does not take affect. Is this because of the NAT exempt rule?

Cisco Firewall :: Dual ISP And Inbound NAT ASA5505 8.2

Oct 30, 2012

I have setup an ASA5505 running 8.2 with dual ISP's

Primary link is the current live static route out and the backup picks up if the primary fails. That all works great However I have an issue with inbound NAT rules

I have configured an inbound static on the primary which works great

static (inside,primary) *.*.*.* 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 access-list outside_access_in line 2 extended permit tcp any host *.*.*.* eq 3389 (hitcnt=4)

Question? With the primary link active and the default route pointing out through the primary, am I able to configure an inbound NAT to the same inside host 10.1.1.1
on the backup link?

If the primary fails users will need to be able to connect inbound to this service

When I try to set it up I got this error ERROR: Static PAT using the interface requires the use of the 'interface' keyword instead of the interface IP address

So I tried that and got this error WARNING: All traffic destined to the IP address of the backup interface is being redirected. WARNING: Users will not be able to access any service enabled on the backup interface.

So what is the best practice for configuring inbound NAT for a dual ISP configured ASA

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Inbound Connection Timeouts?

Oct 9, 2011

So I recently purchased an E4200 to replace my aging and slightly ailing DLink DIR-655 which as served me well for going on 5 years.  The part of the DLink that was giving me the issues was the wireless, the routing and switching worked fine however.

I do quite a lot of streaming of media from my home machine outside my network through the internet.  Most recently I've been using Kalemsoft Media Streamer on my HP Touchpad, however I've used Zumocast, Windows Live, Splashtop, and a few others.  I havent yet tried my PPTP VPN through the router for an extended period of time to see if it reflects this issue as well though.

Since replacing my 655 with the E4200 I've started experiencing a timeout issue.  It seems to be semi-consistant and only happens after time of unuse or extended use (I havent timed it yet to see if it always happens after the same amount of time though).

Basically what occurs is this:

I'll be watching some video or listening to audio streaming from my machine and after a period of time (usually a long period of time) it'll suddenly lose connection, requiring me to re-connect through the software, like the NAT translation is timing out or something.

How it USED to work is this:  It'd basically work until I stopped streaming.

 My setup:

AT&T Uverse set to DMZPlus aiming towards my E4200 WAN port (sitting directly in place of the 655 I used to have)

All machines on the network are gigabit.  I have ports 7000 and 7001 open for Kalemsoft Media Streamer on the E4200 per the specifications of the software.

The software understands UPnP so I have nothing specific forwarded on my machine, but I didnt previously either.
