I'm trying to set up a network comprised of three LANs connected by serial. As this is a small part of an assignment I've been instructed to subnet into /26 and to use /30 subnets for my serial connections. At the moment I can ping between devices on each of the LANs but I can't ping between routers at all. Embarrassingly I'm not sure why, I think it may be something I've missed on setting up the serial links as I have set routers up fine before using other connection types.View 12 Replies View Related

I'm an IT student and I've been assigned with homework simulating a network including an ISA server and some clients in Packet Tracer but I can't find anything which can be configured like an ISA (Internet Security and Acceleration) server(this is kind of Microsoft's technology as I know) in Packet Tracer, the generic Server from the devices box has only some basic services such as HTTP, DHCP, DNS, FTP, AAA, ... but none of anything related to ISA, all the servers in Packet Tracer have only 1 interface whereas the ISA server (as far as I know) should have at least two interfaces, and there is also no CLI supported for those servers so I think I can't simulate ISA server in Packet Tracer, can I?View 4 Replies View Related

I am unable to get traffic from any VLAN to communicate outside of the router, as well as get any traffic from outside of the router to communicate with any device on either VLAN. I am able to ping the router from each device on each VLAN, and vice versa. However, the traffic seems to die at the router, and I cannot figure out why. I know it's probably a small, easy fix, but I cannot seem to find any kind of documentation on it.View 13 Replies View Related
I am trying to troubleshoot a problem where in one of my remote site is not able to access some networks at HQ over Site to SIte VPN ( asa 5505 at Remote and 5520 at HQ). I ran packet tracer and HQ ASA looks clean as everything came out as ALLOW. Remote site ASA packet tracer give me DROP out at Phase 9 (VPN). I am not very sure what to look in ASA for resolution now. Is it an access list that is blocking the traffice or VPN setup.View 5 Replies View Related
I've been using packet-tracer for some time on and off with mixed results.
I'm running a multi context firewall with over 10 of the contexts sharing the same outside interface / network. All interfaces obviously have valid, unique IPs and also unique MAC addresses as mac-address auto is enabled in the system context.
This is an ASA 5550 running 8.3(2.10) interim so includes the fix for the well known packet-tracer classication failed bug.
So in theory, with firewall contexts on a shared interface the ASA should use the firewall MAC address to classify incoming traffic to the correct firewall and as far as I am aware, only fall back on using NAT to classify if the interface MACs are the same. In reality on my platform this doesn't seem to be happening and the classifier is using NAT to determine the destination context. I'm seeing this with live traffic (i.e. not generated by packet-tracer) in logs and can prove it by disabling certain NAT rules (there is some overlap with the IP addressing behind each firewall).
My question regarding packet tracer is this - in the above scenario with a shared outside interface, does packet tracer ALWAYS use NAT to determine the destination context? Or does packet tracer look up the MAC address of the ingress interface according to what context you are running packet tracer from? It appears that packet-tracer is using NAT in my case which could be just symptomatic of the potential bug I've described above rather than by design.
here, am used to the RouterSwitch CLI but been asked to set up an ASA 5505 8.4.Quite simply I am trying to at least test out a static PAT from an external source to an internal server in a test environment and no matter whether I set it up as an auto-nat or a twice-nat whenever I run a packet tracer I end up with the same error. This is the packet-tracer I am running-packet-trace input outside tcp 184.108.40.206 3389 10.240.0.10 3389
Config:nat (inside, outside) source static server publicIP service RDP RDP
Now I have a couple of questions initially. I have made the presumption that packet-tracer does not look at any external devices while running - as in as long as the ports are up it doesn't matter what is on the end of them for testing purposes? Is there anything I am missing?I have this morning wiped the config and have simply set up the adapters, a default route and twice nat and am not sure why I keep getting the error. I am sure it is something very simple and I'm being a massive donut!
i have made a topology in packet tracer related to etherchannel configuration.i am using 2 3560 switches and 1 2950 switch. Now what i want is to bundle up the redundant links between these 3 switches. The links fa0/1-3 between 2950_1 and 3560_1 switches have been bundled up but when i try to bundle the links fa0/4-6 of 3560_1 to fa0/4-6 of 3560_2 it wont work. i am using channel-group 1 mode desirable between the 3560 switches. secondly if i want to assign ip to port channels then it has to be of same subnet between 2 3560 switches right and it must be same between 2950_1 and 3560_1. But these 2 subnets should be different from one another.View 3 Replies View Related

Router connects to ISP but cannot browse the Internet. I have updated the firmware to 220.127.116.11 and that did not work. Reset the router to factory settings and that did not work either. Router had worked until the ISP changed the ONT. The router worked initally after the ONT was changed, but that changed sometime during the day as it did not work that night. The ISP gave me a netgear router and that works, so I can connect, but I would rather the RVS4000 would work. I assume a setting at the ISP, but do not know which one. My workplace has a UC-540 attached to a cable modem, attached to the world wide web.
When we make VOIP outbound calls through the standard ISP, there is no auditory packet loss sympton; however, when we make calls to out sister branch through our VPN, we experience auditory packet loss symptoms.
I would think the VPN should only be affecting the encapsulation of the data. To my understanding the VPN packets and non-vpn packets all hit the router at the same time, and transport over the web in the same manner. Why would there be packet loss over only the VPN??
--Regarding QoS, if a standard layer 3 device receives a VOIP packet encapsulated in a VPN, do the QoS bits in the VOIP packet get acknowledged, or are they hidden by the VPN encapsulation?
Isn't there a way to increase the TTL of an OSPF Hello packet or am I thinking of a different protocol? Or is it only with virtual links? I can't seem to find it in my ROUTE cert book or on the Intarwebz outside of setting TTL security, but I could have sworn I remembered configuring something like this in my ROUTE lab book that I unfortunately do not have at work.View 8 Replies View Related

I having a basic query in troubleshooting E1 link , here im facing packet drop in the link and we are testing by providing local loop and remote loop from the CSU/DSU at local point and at remote point . I have tried ping test while the loop is given at local point and remote point ie i have pinged my local serial interface IP address (eg 10.0.0.1 -local & 10.0.0.2 -remote ) in Remote Loop i could see no errors and drops and also the traffic on the interface output and input is the same(eg input rate 1000bps and output rate 1000bps) .My query is that when i am pinging the local interface IP does the icmp packet travels till the loop point and comes to the same interface(like a boomerang) .

We are working on taking a port off of a switch and connecting it to a mux (TAC 900). Port is trunked to another switch in another geographic location. From wht I am being told from the engineer who handles the transmission end of things he said once our segment is physically connected the mux will crash. He supplied the error code to the vendor and they said it is crashing because of a jumbo packet in excess of 1536 bytes. Soon it will be a moot point as the hardware will be, upgraded but we need tis running NOW.View 8 Replies View Related

I have been using "debug ip packet" on a Cisco 2921 running IOS 15.1(4)M1. The problem I have is that, although I am using an ACL to limit the output, I am seeing some output that is distracting from what I am trying to see. Specifically, I am seeing the following:
Mar 19 20:22:36.135: IP: s=192.168.20.253, d=18.104.22.168, pak 30DB6D4C consumed in input feature , packet consumed, MCI Check(80), rtype 0, forus FALSE, sendself FALSE, mtu 0, fwdchk FALSE
These would appear to be HSRP messages. But I don't understand why they are appearing when I configure "debug ip packet 101". The ACL is pretty simple:
access-list 101 permit icmp host 22.214.171.124 host 192.168.20.1
access-list 101 permit icmp host 192.168.20.1 host 126.96.36.199
So I thought the implicit "deny ip any any" would block these messages. I even tried to block them specifically using an extra line:
access-list 101 deny udp host 192.168.20.253 host 188.8.131.52 eq 1985
But still they show up!
i am implementing tcp as per rfc 793, i have one doubt, while sending first packet, if that packet lost means, tcp will wait for RTO and retransmit the first packet, and after got the ack for first packet, then only it will send second packet or without getting the ack for the first packet it will send second packet.View 7 Replies View Related

I am trying to collect and track packets from other computers on my network and have them sent to my computer so i can sniff through them. I have been tacked with trying to reduce the amount packet broadcasts going through the network. I have been playing with Wireshark for a little bit only analyzing my packets but now I want to try collecting a couple of computers on my network. I know there is a little service that I can run with WinPcap but I am pretty sure there is a way to do it through the settings on my switches but i'm not sure what setting I need to use. I have 4 switches 2x Netgear GS724TS 2x Netgear GS724TR. I'm not sure what feature needs to be used to do what I want. When I ping my video streaming host's IP address (the IP that they gave me where I can view my IP web camera's video stream), I get anywhere from 0% to 8% packet loss at various times of the day. They're claiming that there's no problem, that this is because this is a router and it's dropping ping packets due to "ping priority giving preference to more important network traffic."View 7 Replies View Related

My inside rule is the implicit one, any, any. service IP.In the log I can see a teardown and build of the icmp whenever the packet loss accour. There is no packet loss pinging the outside interface from the internet.View 3 Replies View Related
I found that ADSL is packet switching type of communictaion. Definition for circuit switching is "A type of communications in which a dedicated channel (or circuit) is established for the duration of a transmission."In practical, telco line connects to the ADSL modem/router through which we are communicating to internet. In this context I have some doubt. The telco line which is connected to our ADSL modem is not shared with any other device ,connects only to the CO of the telco where we get the internet connection. That means the line which connects to the modem is dedicated upto CO.then it becomes circuit switching or not upto the CO.View 5 Replies View Related
