There is a Linksys RV016 router setup at my workplace. I need access to the webmanagement interface however the default password is not working. (Username/Password: admin/admin) Is there any way to obtain the login information without performing a reset of the router so I do not lose its current configurations?
View 3 RepliesI've used many Cisco RV042/082 and have just purchased a couple previously used RV016 units.The first think I do is hold down the "reset" switch until the units reset to factory and then proceed programming them - EXCEPT this last unit doesn't seem to be resetting the administrative password.The unit has reset so that it is 192.168.1.1 and is handing out IP assignments via DHCP in that range.
When I point my browser (IE9) to the web page http://192.168.1.1 I am prompted to log on. I enter 'admin' for user name and attempt to enter the same for the password. The browser returns me to the logon prompt and after a few apparently failed attempts it displays a 401 error Unauthorized page.
In desperation I have tried:
admin / admin
/ admin
admin / password
/ password
admin / rv016
and simply admin with a blank password.Isn't the admin password supposed to reset with everything else?If not - how can I - if it is, then what would be preventing the admin password from resetting - is there an internal jumper or something I could try? I don't care about preserving any setting obviously I just want access to the admin interface.

Im having some problems changing my admin password on my DCS920
I know the default login is Login: admin / Password: "blank"
So I go into maintence, and there's an option to change the password.
it lists:
old password
newpassword
confirm
So I leave the old password blank and type in my new password in the following 2 spaces. I click apply and a window pops up asking me to enter username and password. I just enter admin and leave the password blank. I hit ok, and everything seems to update ok. So i log out, and try to log back in.
A window pops up asking me for my password. I type in admin for my username, and my new password, and it wont work
I type leaving the username blank, and type in new password... WONT WORK
I type admin, and new password again.. WONT WORK
I try password with first letter capital.. WONT WORK
I try password with ALL CAPS... WONT WORK..
Basically it wont let me log in as admin anymore. I figure I may have typed the password wrong the first time so I reset the camera and try the process again.. SAME PROBLEM.

I've tried 4 times, and every time, i've got to hold the reset button to reset to factory settings in order to access the management pages! I enter the new password in both fields, and then click to save the settings. It restarts. Then i try to log in - and it doesn't accept the new password. It doesn't accept the default password. I've tried with admin/(new password) and (new password)/(new password), and admin/admin. None of them work, forcing me to reset router to factory settings. I've tried a password composed of 6 letters followed by a . Thinking that maybe the . was throwing it off, I tried 6 letters followed by 3 numbers. That doesn't work either. I've updated to firmware version 2.0.1.5. No luck.

During the LILO boot process, I can see some error message that 'Keyboard Not Present'. I tried to connect the keyboard to different USB ports and the PS/2 port using a USB to PS/2 adapter. Still keyboard is not functioning.I am able to select the BIOS options while connecting the USB keyboard to appliance. But it is not functioning when booting from Recovery DVD. Also the keyboard is functioning if I boot the appliance directly with previous image. Unfortunately I dont have any PS/2 keyboard available for connecting and admin password for Login.Is there any workaround/solution for supporting the USB keyboard during the Recovery Procedure ?I tried the serial connection with hyperterminal but some junk charaters appear even after setting the recomended Baud rate, parity, flow control etc.The Ethernet console seems not working with the default IP address 192.168.0.101 for eth1.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a rv016 that's been in 24x7 operation since I bought it a few years back. It is out of warranty. It is connected to three cable modems on WANs 1-3. Behind it are a bunch of PCs getting IPs via DHCP. There is a gateway to gateway vpn tunnel setup on wan3 to a rv082 at another site. There is a forwarding entry for http to an internal http server. Everything else is pretty much default.
The router is primarily used to aggregate bandwidth for uploading large numbers of photos. The systems behind the router initiate the uploads and the router automatically load balances the outgoing bandwidth.
This was all working fine until just recently. The ISP is Knology who is upgrading each of the 8m/768k cable modems to 25m/5m. They are also moving from DOCSIS 1 to DOCSIS 3. They are currently in the middle of this upgrade and have upgraded the modems to DOCSIS 3 as well as the speeds to 12m/2m. The problem is that the rv016 Network Service Detection, which is set to "Default Gateway" indicates that the modems fail randomly. Usually only one will be failed, but up to two will fail the Network Service Detection simultaneously.
Knology insists that there is nothing wrong with their modems. I have removed a modem from the rv016 when Network Service Detection indicates it is in a failed state and connected it directly to a computer. It will work, but it has a different IP address and default gateway. As soon as I connect it back to the rv016, it works there too, but on the original IP address and gateway. I've only tried this test this twice so far, so it is a bit inconclusive.
Speed tests behind the rv016 are the same as directly connected to one of the cable modems. The router works normally as it has for years. Nothing else is acting funny.
So my question is, is the rv016 failing or is the ISP having problems?
Problems on RV016 the firmware, Firmware Version : v4.2.1.02 (Jan 18 2012 14:10:55) on port PPPoE mode. It makes the dial, but not Web browsing correctly. The solution was to return the old version of firmware.

I see where I can change the password but it says I'll lose all wireless connections. This doesn't make sense to me. I would think the router administration username and password are completely separate from the ssid and wpa key. This was the case with my earlier LinkSys router. I'd like a router administration username to be something other than the generic "admin" and a password that is easier than my long wpa key. I have hardware version 2 and firmware 3.0.2.01 (latest firmware available for this hardware version I believe) and I cannot get it to email me logs. I have entered my outlook address and our SMTP server.The log says that it's failing each time it attempts. I have scoured the internet and I cannot find a solution that will work for me. I have found some talk of adjusting an MTU setting which is supposed to be located under the firewall / general tab.
