I have a Cisco RV082 and can successfully connect with the Cisco QuickVPN Client, 1.4.2.1. However, after 1 to 5 minutes I see the Windows 7 bluescreen indicating that the system has halted due to a problem with a driver. I have installed the latest Windows updates and reinstalled the client.
The bluescreen only occurs if I use the Cisco QuickVPN Client.
I installed QuickVPN v1.4.2.1 as it was in the download section on Linksys: [URL]
for the RV082 router we have. It connected but the program seemed buggy as there seemed to be no way to close the program after I used it so I wanted to uninstall it and install a more recent version of QuickVPN (side question: is it possible to VPN connect to my RV082 router with a different version of QuickVPN?).
I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1 with all the latest updates. When I try to uninstall the program, at about the 25% mark of the window for 'QuickVPN Client Setup is preparing the InstallShield Wizard, which will guide you through the rest of the setup process. Please wait.' it seems to stop responding as holding the mouse over that windows just displayes a ring which goes round and round. I regret installing this buggy software on my PC.
Is there a safe way to use the Cisco VPN Client (V5.x) and Cisco Quick VPN (V1.4.1.2) on the same Windows PC? I need to access my office RVS4000 and my customer's PIX 506 from the same laptop (but not at the same time).
Perhaps I should be asking "Is there a single Windows VPN client that works with both the Cisco RVS4000 and Cisco PIX 506? I have seen these questions asked on various forums but have yet to see a definitive answer.
I recently installed a new RV120W router at one of my customer's office. I have 2 users connecting using the Quick VPN software.The first one is running on a Windows XP Pro SP3. Everything works great on this PC.The second PC is running on a Windows Vista - The QUICKVPN client stays at Veryfing Network and Eventually I get an error " The remote gateway is not responding. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a RV082 in the corporate office, and several remote people connecting to it using QuickVPN through a variety of clients (XP and Windows 7). As of today, they are all now seeing the "Remote Gateway is not responding - disconnect or wait" message. Checking through the logs on some of the remote clients, I see the "Failed to ping the remote router" message several times, followed by the "Ping was blocked, which can be caused by an unexpected disconnect." message.
The odd thing is that everyone has been running very well over the past 2-3 weeks - most people with 8+ hours of solid connectivity. We made no changes to the clients, nor to the remote router in the corporate office.
I want to connect from a Linux station to RV082, is it possible? What software can I use and with what configuration?

We have many PC's that already have the standard CiscoVPN client on them, is it possible to configure the RV042 to allow these clients to conenct? I'm not sure how to get the Mutual authentication to work, or how to import the PEM certificiate into that client. It seems to allow it to import, but I can never select it.

I am setting up remote access using an RV042 router. Using quickvpn or a client-to gateway vpn and shrewsoft client, I can only access/ping the LAN side of the remote router and one machine on the remote network. The PPTP server and native Windows 7 connection provide access to all machines on the remote network.I have 2 possible reasons for this and would like to find the real reason:
1) The remote RV042 is behind another router, and that router restricts access other than the PPTP traffic.
2) The VPN tunnels other than PPTP only allow access to the remote LAN side of the router and remote machines that have the remote router defined as their gateway in the IP configuration.
I have a RVS4000 router, and using Quick VPN client (latest version, 1.4.2.1?) on a computer with Windows Vista. I can connect to the router, and I can see computers, and drives on the network. When I click on a drive or computer, I can't connect to the devices. Local IP address are 192.168.1.x, remote is 192.168.2.x.

I have this fresh factor out-of-box install. I know this is most likely something to do with my laptop that I am trying to use to connect to the network. I have Frontier as my ISP for home. I don't know if there is anything they are doing to interfere with my connection. I have tried to connect to the network via ComCast as well, with no luck.tell me if there is something I need to tweak in my Windows 7 settings?
I've been working on getting a client to Gateway configuration going for quite some time now. Had it working with a different Cisco single wan router that failed. The user replaced the router with an RV042 and we are trying to get the QuickVPN to once again connect to the router as it did before the replacement. Previously we did connect successfully with Windows 7 clients.

When I use QuickVPN under XP, I connect to my RVS4000 without problems. When I switch to new computer running Windows 7 and V4.2.1 QuickVPN I can get all the way to Verifying Network. Then I get the message that: "The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?" - repeatedly. The icon in the tool bar remains with a red slash and I am unable to ping devices on the lan side of the router. However, when I check the VPN Summary on the router, I see that it thinks I'm connected. When I check the VPN log I see that I am not:

I've disabled MS Security Essentials and made sure the Firewall is on. IPSec Policy Agent and IKE and AuthIP IPSec Keying Modules services are both started. I've created a rule to allow QuickVPN throught the firwall in and out and a rule to let traffic on 443 and 60443 UDP and TCP through the Firewall.
A customer of mine has two RV082 in different locations. The "main" router is providing a gateway-to-gateway VPN tunnel, and is also used by a few road warriors for VPN access. We've had some issues with the "main" router lately, so we've decided to exchange it for a brand new device (v3). The old RV082 was a hardware revision v2 device, so I had to manually rebuild the config on the new router. The new router is working fine so far - connectivity and gateway-to-gateway VPN are fine. IPsec Client VPN, however, doesn't work at all. The config of the new router is identical to the config of the old one, IPsec Client VPN used to work fine on the old router.
The router is running the latest firmware (v4.0.4.02-tm). I've been trying to make IPsec VPN work with "QuickVPNplus ver: 1.0.6" and the "Cisco QuickVPN Client v1.4.2.1". From what I understand, both programs first connect to the routers external IP and download some sort of VPN config file. The info in that file is then used to create the actual connection. The problem is that the config file is invalid. It contains HTML code instead of config data. This is the code: "<HTML><HEAD><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=/cgi-bin/welcome.cgi"></HEAD><BODY></BODY></HTML>". The URL is the same I see when logging in to the admin interface of the router. The Cisco client tells me in its "wget_error.txt": "rwConnStart message=All 1 wget requests did not return a valid vpnserver.conf". Both clients connect to the router fine, and the config download itself is working - only the returned data is invalid.
I've already tried lots of stuff to make the problem go away - enabling/disabling the firewall, VPN passthrough options, and other things. I'm beginning to think that there may be a bug in the firmware I'm using, or that the way Client VPN works has changed in a way that makes connecting with a client implementing the "old" method impossible. By the way, PPTP is working fine, so we're using it as a temporary workaround. My client, however, isn't happy with this workaround - he bought a relatively expensive router so he can make use of its advanced features, after all.
Using the latest Cisco QuickVPN, my Windows 7, 64 bit laptop processes the QuickVPN connection to the point where the laptop attempts to ping the router and verify the connection. Those pings fail.Windows firewall is ON and IPSEC is started on the laptop. I have tried Kaspersky's firewall both enabled and disabled with no change.

The DSL modem supports DHCP, DMZ, port forwarding, application forwarding, filtering, etc. I have an existing network 192.168.0.x that uses a combination of DHCP and static IP addresses for printers, scanners, and servers.I just purchased a RVS4000 and configured its LAN port to accept a DHCP address. It received the .26 address. I set up application and port forwarding so all VPN traffic goes to this address. I also put the router in the DMZ and turned off all firewalls.On the LAN side of the RVS4000 I use the 192.168.1.x address and have the 4000 provide DHCP addresses. I have a PC connected to the LAN port and it has the address of 1.100. I am able to use TeamViewer to connect to this through the internet and I can also access the devices on the Actiontec network from the PC connected to the 4000.I set up the VPN as best I could while going through appendix B of the admin guide. When I am at a remote location and use the QuickVPN client to access the 4000 I get the message, "The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?'. When I look at the log everything looks good except I get the following error:

I am unable to get a DHCP address for my remote PC and am unable to ping any device on either network. What do I have configured wrong that this is not working?I only purchased this so I can use the VPN. Is the VPN established on the Actiontec LAN or on the RVS4000 LAN side? I am obviously connecting to the 4000 but am just not getting an address so I can not use my home office network for all my communications.
If i set up a pptp vpn between a Cisco rv082 router and a microsoft client,Can i set the client idle timeout someway? or Have a default value pre- configured for this?Because this device support 5 users to connect at the same time. It would be best for me, if the device drop the client if it does not use the tunel.

That was the QuickVPN client, but as it turs out, it simply impossible from reading the user manual to understand just how I have to set thing up. For instance, the VPN Wizard tells you to enter a preshared key. But in the QuickVPN Client, where do I enter the key?
And shall the "Enable Cisco VPN Client" be ticket off, I assumed yes, but seriously it is impossible to know.
Then in the VPN Wizard again, in the Remote & Local WAN Adress, what shall use FQDN or IP Address. The if FQDN, what shall a enter, the domain name for the router, whats the point in that? The domain name of the VPN Client, seriously, what's the point in that? I would assume that 99% of the VPN Client does NOT have a domain name. Then, if IP address, am I supposed to know the IP address of the client? Same with the "Secure Connection Remote Accessibility", what am I supposed to enter. The IP address which the Quick VPN Client network adapter shall have?

My home network is connected to a pre provide by my ISP Thomson TG784 and is connected to it but all my main network is controlled by the WRVS4400N, I have forward all the doors, as you can see by the log part below, and by analyzing the log you can see that I can't get any PING to complete the VPN connection.

View 8 Replies View Related I just got my first WRVS4400N v2.Nothing has changed, the definition of small business means there are USUALLY one office, and several people runs around thus the need of a VPN server sitting at the home office Router. I think most of us small business operators had wished for a connection away from office, NO REMOTE GROUPS, just clients on phone, or laptop. Using this connection to get to some files which isn't sitting in the cloud, or perhaps using it to hop over firewall restrictions that some overseas countries had imposed.
What you should have is a setting for Stand-alone VPN server, NOT Router to Router.. What you should have is feature that generates the various psk for different platforms. What you should have is made things simple, instead of these magicabbage which goes no where for the small businesses.Through out this thread the original poster is presenting the same problem, he and I don't have a Remote Group router to enter an IP address, tell us to use the QuikVPN client DON'T work, the Server isn't UP to begin with!Moreover, the VPN client installer on the this new v2 runs only in Win 2000 or XP??? What the (*&^! Doesn't seem like a large business like Cisco should have in their boxes.
Does RV082 can establish PPTP VPN connection as CLIENT? (i'm aware it can provide function of VPN PPTP server but could not find if it can act as client).To explain further: I'm based in Europe and use US VPN to access some US services like Netflix, Pandora, etc.. (i'm paying for US VPN account as service so I have no other choice than PPTP). I would like to establish permanent PPTP VPN tunnel with remote server so all computers in the house can go through tunnel when i browse for Pandora or Netflix for example (is this router capable of routing policy too so not all the traffic would be routed through tunnel?)

signs of Cisco fixing this.I would be happy if I could use the pptp and the MS Clients. There is no pptp option in the 4400N. All I can do is port forward to my MS server. This does work, but then I cant vpn out....Unfortunately, I will have to return this router for a "STORE CREDIT" .
