Cisco Routers :: Setting Up RV220W Behind Comcast SMC Gateway

Jun 25, 2012

I spoke with the Comcast gateway support team and they changed my SMC router to the straight gateway/bridge option. If I plug directly from my laptop to the SMC, I have internet connectivity. So I know that aspect is working. I have a Cisco RV220W router that I want to be between the internet/SMC gateway and my network. For the life of me, I cannot get the internet connectivity to pass through to the router. I've done the proper power on order numerous times. Tried variations just for the heck of it. And nothing. Am I missing a step? If I do the "wizard" on the router, it basically tells me it sees no gateway even available even though it is clearly there and plugged into the WAN port. I don't see any option in the router settings for me to specify like the DHCP server I should be reaching out (if there even is one). My understanding is I shouldn't need to as the router should just recognize it.  Should I be using a static IP instead?

Cisco Routers :: How To Manage Port 80 Hosts Via Gateway To Gateway VPN (rv220w)

Aug 30, 2012

I replace our aging rv082 routers with wireless rv220w routers. The gateway to gateway vpn works great, however I am no longer able to manage our print servers port 80 management page. I can ping any host with success, and I can manage hosts that have a port 10000 or 8000 web interface - but no port 80 ones... I had no issues when using the old rv082 routers...

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Gateway-to-Gateway Inter VLAN Routing?

Jul 6, 2012

I picked up a pair of RV220W's and before I spent loads of time at a remote site, I figured I'd go through some VPN testing at home to make sure I could get it setup properly.  What this means is I've plugged the Internet uplink into a switch, then from the switch into both routers & configured them (using unique static IP's for each) from there.  For what its worth: While I have some IT experience, I don't have strong networking experience.

I setup several VLAN's on the local RV220W, and the end result is to make it so that an asset at the remote site with an IP in any of the ranges (192.168.121.0/24, 192.168.131.0/24, 192.168.141.0/24 and any future VLANs) can communicate with/access resouces at the local site.  Likewise, an asset at the local site with an IP in any of the ranges (.121, .131, .141 + any future VLANs) should be able to reach the remote resources (currently just 192.168.181.0/24, but future VLANs as well).

This evening I tried to focus on the relevant VPN pages of the Administration Guide to get the VPN up.  Leaving the defaults I got as far as establishing a link between both sites and it seems that things are working right: From the remote site (.181) I can access the local site (.121, .131, .141); and from the local site I can at least ping resources (a laptop) on the remote site. (Yay!)

However, when I physically connected an asset that had a 192.168.121.X, 192.168.131.X and 192.168.141.X IP addresses to the remote RV220W (which is 192.168.181.0/24), I couldn't see it from the remote or local sites.I assume this is expected.  But I'm reaching out to the community to see what other possibilities might be available becuase networking is a weak area for me.  I figured it might be something like a Static [or Dynamic] Route but I really am not 100% sure.

'TECHNICAL' SPECS

Cisco Routers :: Using RV042 As Layer 3 Clear Gateway For Comcast EDI

Feb 18, 2013

Comcast installed a new fiber 10M EDI internet connection in our facility the other day and found out it is our responsibility to provide a layer 3 gateway to map the internet connection to the 14 public IP addresses they assigned to us.  We are using RV042 for our existing networks with a T1 we had.

Will the RV042 provide the gateway function to route the single IP address comcast provided to the 15 public IP addresses?  If so , can you provide the configuration example on this process?

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Reports Remote Gateway Is Not Responding

Aug 30, 2011

I've just set-up one of the RV220W VPN solutions. This worked fine for a while, but now it reports the remote gateway is not responding. Other clients can connect, but not the computer I'm using at home.
Log file reports:

2011/08/31 21:10:31 [STATUS]Success to connect.
2011/08/31 21:10:31 [STATUS]Tunnel is configured. Ping test is about to start.
2011/08/31 21:10:31 [STATUS]Verifying Network...
[code]...

I've tried the most common stuff. Enabling ICMP, checked that remote administration runs on port 443, changed MTU to 1400 manually, It allows fragmented packages too. Checked that IKE and IP Sec services are running. I've also tried both with windows firewall ON and OFF. A colleague of mine had the same problem in the same time frame as me, but after a while - he suddenly was able to connect. I still can't!!

Firmware Version: 1.0.2.4
Edit: IP is not real.

Cisco Routers :: Setting Up IPSec Connection On RV220W?

Aug 26, 2012

We bought a RV220W in order to get a VPN in our Small Business. The RV220W will only be used to let clients connect to it and not a tunnel between another VPN box.We could use QuickVPN, but it won't be working in our case, because in order to use QuickVPN, the router wants to change its IP 10.x.y.1. Because we have multiple servers/services that are using a static IP, it would be quite painful to change the subnet. Therefore, we would like to stay on the same subnet and change it in worst case scenario only. This is why QuickVPN is not an option here.We could use SSL VPN, but most of our clients who will connect to the VPN are using Windows 7 x64. I have tried the Windows 7 x64 fix told in the latest firmware release notes, but I can't get it to work on my computer, which is a Win7 x64. It might still be broken. Many of them are not very tech-savyy, so I can't tell them to use a virtual machine to connect. We want a secure connection, therefore IPSec is better than PPTP. I've been trying to setup IPSec for the past hours but I can't get it working. At first, I wanted to use an SSL certificate, but having no luck with this, I switched to a Pre-shared Key (PSK) in order to get things simpler. Eventually I would like to use an SSL certificate, however I would like to get PSK working first to confirm that the IPSec connection is working.

I have attached with this post, screenshots of the IKE and VPN Policies. I have used the VPN Wizard in order to complete these fields. The local identifier is the WAN DynDNS FQDN. However, as for the remote FQDN, there should be none really, because clients are connecting to it, so the RV220W won't know in advance who's connecting and from where. I have read that when using the Responder type, the remote settings should not matter. Also, the PSK is 25 caracters long. After setting the RV220W up, I have set up a L2TP/IPSec VPN connection on my Windows 7. I have set up the connection to connect to the DynDNS address and set up the PSK in the Advanced settings. After I typed my IPSec username and password to connect (which was created in the IPSec users section), Windows tries to connect and times out :

Error 789 : The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer.

At the same time on the RV220W, this error shows up in the logs :

2012-08-26 23:45:24: [rv220w][IKE] ERROR:  Could not find configuration for 24.54.xx.xx[500]

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I've read the Administration manual quite a few times and it seems that I have followed everything by the book.I have tried to enable/disable my Windows firewall, but did not get any luck. The RV220W is located at a remote office, to make sure that I can connect from the outside, before you think that I'm trying to connect to the outside, from the inside I have changed few settings in the IKE policy to try to make it work. Settings such as the Exchange Mode, because I've read that the Aggressive mode had issues. At this moment, the settings are back to default, once the wizard has been run. I'm thinking about setting a PPTP to confirm that this works, then move up to IPSec PSK, then to IPSec SSL Certificate.

Cisco Routers :: Setting Up Static IP For Client Rv220W

Dec 16, 2011

Initial setup with RV220W completed without difficulty,Need to set up static IP for one of the machines in the LAN (not static IP for WAN),I presume I use the static DHCP option, which allows me to select a particular IP for the machine I select based on it's MAC,1. My confusion stems from the manual stating that "the IP address that you pick should be outside the DHCP address range specified on the Networking> LAN(local network)>IPV4(local network)page".,Does that mean that the range on the IPV4 local network page should be modified to exclude the IP address that I want to use for the static IP..e.g. change the range from 1-255 to 1-200 and then use an IP of XXX.XXX.X.201 for instanceor does that mean that as soon as I choose an IP on the Static DHCP page, that if will reserved for use only on that machine and not used for another machine on the LAN, without me having to do something else to exclude it's use (i.e. does reserving a static IP automatically remove it from the range of IPs available to other machines)If I simply set a static IP on the local machine by going to "change network adapter" settings, what's the liklihood that the router might use the same IP on another machine.

Moving From Comcast Gateway To Business

Jul 31, 2012

I have a 'Comcast Business Gateway' a friend gave me and I would like to use it instead of the regular gateway. The business gateway has extra Ethernet ports on the back where as the regular gateway just has one for your router. I plugged in the business gateway and I couldn't access the network. I used 10.1.10.1 which I thought was comcast's default but to no avail. I am not a tech so I am now stuck. The whole reason I am trying to do this is because the wireless routor is in the house, with a ethernet wire running to the shop. This distance is about 60 feet. I have the computer pluged into the wire but I can't get the printer or the other computer to connect to the wireless. I would like to connect the Business Gateway to the house wireless and then run the hard wire to the shop and connect another wireless router to the wire and run the shop on its own wireless. I tried one of the wireless extenders and it does not have enough juice.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 On Comcast Business Account That Uses Gateway

Jul 23, 2011

I am setting up a e4200 wireless router on a Comcast business account that uses a gateway (SMC8014).I have fixed public IP [x.x.x.x/30] and the gateway sets up a subnet 10.1.10.0 (255.255.255.0).  I have mail server and DNS server at 10.1.10.20 and I use port forwarding in the SMC gateway.

The setup of the e4200 using the software sets up a network (192.168.1.1).  I can connect devices to the router and browse the external Internet.  However, when my android phone connects to the e4200 it gets an IP such as 192.168.1.101.  However, I cannot download my mail which is at 10.1.10.20.  When I try to browse that IP from the android phone I get the SMC gateway at 10.1.10.1 and not the computer at 10.1.10.20.  If was coming in from the external Internet port forwarding would take over but it does not work for the android phone connected to the e4200.

Also, i noticed that when I set up the default setup for the e4200 the "Cisco Connect" says the WAN address is 10.1.10.155 and the LAN address is 192.168.1.1.  However, when I go to the SMC Gateway and list the connected computers it doesn't see the e4200 at 10.1.10.155.  If I set up the e4200 within 10.1.10.0 then the SMC sees it (but the computer name always says "unknown").  It I set the DHCP in either the SMC or the e4200 within the 10.1.10.0 subnet I can see the phone connection in the SMC when I list the connections but any requests to 10,1,10.0 computers goes to the SMC gateway.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 Gateway To Gateway VPN Not Resolving Remote DynDns

Feb 14, 2013

I've got two RV082's connected. Each has a dynamic IP (changes typically every few weeks). I've configured the tunnels on both ends with a local and remote "Remote/Local Security Gateway Type" of "Dynamic IP + Domain Name(FQDN) Authentication".If I look at the VPN Summary tunnel status, it shows an IP address of "mydomain.dyndns.org 0.0.0.0" under the "Remote Gateway" column heading. The Tunnel Test "Connect" button is N/A.I can resolve both of the mydomain.dyndns.org entries on both sides of each VPN using the Diagnostic DNS lookup tool within each router. If I hardwire a fixed IP address for the Local and Remote Gateway everything works just fine. VPN is good.

I just can't seem to get the "mydomain.dyndns.org" function to work. It appears the router can't resolve the dynamic IP from the domain names on each of the routers.

Cisco Routers :: Gateway To Gateway VPN Between RV110W And RV042G?

Mar 19, 2013

I am trying to set up a gateway to gateway VPN connection between a RV042G (central site) and a RV110W (newest firmware) which is used for presentation purposes on various customer's sites. The RV042G has a static IP. The RV110W has different IPs, depending on where it is used.

Basic VPN settings are clear to me (we have another VPN between two RV042G with static IPs). I set up the VPN connection on the RV042G wth the following settings for "Remote Group Setup":

Remote Security Gateway Type : IP + Domain Name (FQDN) Authentication IP by DNS resolved: mydomain.no-ip.org Domain Name: router12345

The value "router12345" is what I have configured in the RV110W as "Host name" in the network settings.

This configuration does not work so I am obviously doing something wrong. Do I have to use "router12345.mydomain.local" instead if I configured "mydomain.local" as the domain name in the RV110Ws network settings? For my tests the RV110W has a WAN-IP of 192.168.178.100 because it is located behind a DSL-Router. The external IP of this DSL-router is 178.0.x.x. The resolved IP  from mydomain.no-ip-org is 192.168.178.100 but when I look in the RV042G log I see the requests coming withg the external IP (178.0.x.x). Is this the problem? The last message I see in the log is "no connection has been authorized with policy=PSK".

Or can I use "IP + Email Address (USER FQDN) Authentication" instead (where can I enter this email address in the RV110W?). Or do I have to use "Dynamic IP"?

Cisco Routers :: Static IPs Behind RV220W

Jul 3, 2012

Picked up a pair of RV220W's for a project I'm working on.  I have several IP's available, 4 of which are assigned to/in use by a server behind the RV220W.  All 4 of these IP's are static external IPs.  How I can configure the RV220W so that requests to those 4 IP's get routed to the server.

Prior to purchasing this, I was under the impression what I was trying to do was called one-to-one NAT, but after reading the 'Help' document on the one-to-one NAT page, I don't think this is right.  Emphasis added below: Cisco RV220W Wireless-N Network Security Firewall Help FirewallOne-to-One NATOne-to-one NAT is a way to make systems behind a firewall and configured with private IP addresses appear to have public IP addresses.One-to-One-NAT Rule TableThis table lists the list of available One-To-One NAT rules configured by the user. Private Range Begin: start ip address in private (LAN) ip addressPublic Range Begin: start ip address in the public ip address (WAN IP), Public IP Subnet Mask: The Subnet Mask of the public IPRange Length: Range length maps one to one private address to public address up to the given range.Service: This column shows service to be accepted by LAN Host. The actions that can be taken on One-to-One-NAT rules are:(Check Box At First Column Header): Selects all the entries in the table.Add: Opens the One-To-One NAT Configuration page, to add a new entry. Edit: Opens the One-To-One NAT Configuration page, to edit the selected entry.Delete: Deletes the selected entries.

So according to their documentation, the server in question would need to be configured with a private IP.  Unfortunately, one of the applications I use is licensed via IP address and my understanding is that I cannot use the software with private/non-routable IP addresses.

Is the RV220W capable of not only securing the line (firewall, access rules, content filtering, port trigering & forwarding etc) but also doing what I was hoping to do (keeping the external IP's on the server, and routing appropriately)?

Cisco Routers :: Associate Name To IP - RV220W

Nov 27, 2011

Is there anyway to associate a name to an IP in the RV220W?  I am coming from a WRVS4400N v2.  Folks are complaining that they can't connect, for example via Real VNC, via the PC name any longer.  They have to use the IP address.  In the past I put the names of the PCs in the WRVS4400N when I reserved IPs via MAC addresses (some call this assigning static IPs).  There isn't any place in the RV220W to put the name.  Even when I look at the DHCP list a lot of them show up as "unknown".  I am sure this is a NETBIOS thing but I'd rather fix this in the router as I have always done in the past.

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Just Disappears

Jun 23, 2012

Having a strange problem that just started this week and got worse this evening. I have a RV220W that is feeding my network. The RV220W sits behind a broadband modem and acts as the DHCP for the network and those computers access the internet that way. Anyway, tonight started an issue where the the RV220W just disappears. Becomes unpingable. I recycle power, and within anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, it's gone. No longer pingable.  Even if I plug a latop directly into it.If I power cycle the RV220W it comes back and I can ping it and access it and its settings. 5 to 10 mins later, I again lose it. Nothing was done. Its been working fine for a few weeks. Had a similar outage last Tuesday, but a recycle of everything brought everything back into line. After I lose connection to it, the lights I expect to be lit remain lit.

Cisco Routers :: RV220W / Getting Bad Bandwidth Sharing?

Jan 31, 2013

When someone downloads a file, or similar, there seems to be no, or very little, room for other requests. I've even tried to be the only one on the network, start a download (from ex. Intel) and then tries to access a simple website, almost only text, and its extreemly slow. I hav ethe latest firmware, a windows domain network and the routers is not acting as dhcp server.

Cisco Routers :: RV220W - Very Slow Wi-Fi Connection?

Aug 5, 2011

I'm an IT professional with more than 10 years experience. I have spent last 5 days trying to figure out why the wifi connection to this router is so slow, but still no luck. I'm getting only 13Mbps even if my laptop is next to the router! (wired connection worked ok)

I have tried all sort of setting combinations, 2.4GHz/5GHz; N only/ G,N Mixed;  Auto/20MHz bandwidth; different channels; WPA2 encrypted vs open; disable firewall; wmm enabled/disabled; 1.0.0.26/1.0.1.0 firmware... no matter what I try, I always get only 10 - 15Mbps speed.

Once I replace this router with my old router, it worked perfectly --- getting 70 - 80Mbps with exactly the same testing environment and configuration.

I really expect this router to offer much faster wireless speed according to this review: [URL]

Cisco Routers :: Workgroup Accessibility With RV220W

Apr 30, 2013

I'm using a RV220W in my home office. Before this router I was. using a Sitecom router which did not cause any problems. I have setup a home network. The RV220W connects to the provider modem. The client components connect to the RV220W. Which acts as DHCP gateway. The DHCP features of the modem are disabled. I have assigned all network client devices to the same workgroup. I have to windows 7 PC's. one of them acts as fileserver. when trying to acces it from the other fixed PC or via a laptop the fileserver is visible but not accessable. I can not open it and access the shared folders. It has worked for a brief moment, but without changing any settings it stop working. I have never had accessability problems with the sitecom router. I have installed the latest firmware and tried rebooting the router several times. I have also started again with the factory defaults.

Cisco Routers :: SSL Email Support On RV220W

Aug 29, 2011

I do you not think the RV220W needs to have better E-mail support that the feature it supports at present? No SSL support at all. The only setting for authentication is: Login Plain or CRAM-MD5. Every mail server I use now, supports SSL as the default authentication and not CRAM or Plain, this makes the E-mail feature useless. [code]
