Cisco Switches :: SG300 Trunk With 3com 4800G?

Oct 25, 2012

Our company currently have a 3com 2816 connected to a 3com 4800G through a trunk.  The 4800G connects to the PBX and to the ip phones/computers. We are currently using vlan1 (192.168.100.n) for data and vlan 3 (192.168.101.n) for voice , Ip addresses are being issued by a DHCP server. Each user has an assigned IP phone and it has an ethernet port that connects to each computer. This setup has been working properly until I purchased an SG300 and replaced the 3com 2816.

The ip phone is showing a bad gateway and the PC are getting an ip address of 192.168.101 (which is for voice). Theoretically it should work, but what is weird is, it seems the SG300 trunking with the 3com 4800G is not working. Is it possible that it is on ISL mode rather than dot1q?I also saw its running RSTP, should I changed it to classic STP?How do I fix this or what troubleshooting should i do?

The SG300 is configured as a layer 2 switch. Configuration for the trunk below:

interface gigabitethernet27
spanning-tree link-type point-to-point
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 3-4
macro description switch
macro auto smartport type switch $native_vlan 1

Cisco Switches :: Configure SRW248G4 Switch Through Console Port?

Jun 2, 2013

I want to configure my SRW248G4 switch thru console port. Unfortunately in this switch there is no RJ45 console port input, I can only see cosole port that is look like RS232 input. I bought two standard cisco console cables that have one end with db9 and one with RJ45.

Now I have and idea to put one end of one cable (db9) to switch, and one end (db9) of second cable in my computer (COM input/output)

I need to connect two RJ45 together - this is not a problem, I know how to do this. Here is the question :I know how pinout in my computer look like but i can't find pinout of console port in my SRW248G4. There is many pictures in Internet, for many Cisco devices but this isn't working. Maybe in LINKSYS pinout look different ?

Cisco Switches :: LAG Configuration On SG300 52 Switch?

I have connected four Ge ports on the switch to the four NICs of a Dell R710 Server on which I installed Windows Server 2008 R2. Without LAG configured, these ports would forward traffic to and from the Dell server fine. However, if I configure LAG on the ports with LACP enabled, then they would not forward any network traffic. Debugging shows that the ports are up but their forwarding status show N/A. Am I missing any configuration? Can I configure LAG on edgeports?

Cisco Switches :: Getting The Port Mirroring On SG300?

Nov 8, 2011

I'm troubleshooting a LAN issue I have, and I wanted to hook up wireshark to record traffic over the course of a couple of hours for later diagnostics. I went into the web administration interface, clicked Administration > Diagnostics > Port and VLAN Mirroring, and added a port mirror from the port I wanted to watch to a port to which I had connected a laptop. I picked the Tx and Rx options, and clicked Apply.I did receive lots of traffic in wireshark, but I noticed immediately that the server on the port I had mirrored was suddenly unavailable on the network -- pings timed out. This lasted until I removed the mirror, then the server was suddenly reachable once again.Does this feature not work the way I had thought it does? What I saw looked more like a forward than what I would call a mirror. The documentation leads me to believe mirroring is intended to be used in just the way I was attempting to use it.

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Can PC Manage Switch And Get Data From It

Oct 12, 2011

Mgmt Vlan 1 (default) Data VLan 10 (with access to internet) Is there a way to have a PC attached to a SG300 switch such that it can both access Vlan 10 for data and Vlan 1 for managment ? The PC's port clearly needs to be untagged PVID on vlan 10. I have tried adding vlan 1T and setting the port as a trunk port but to no avail, The switch is currently level 2. I am guessing this might not be possible in level 2 without setting the mgmt vlan to 10 ?.

Cisco Switches :: Set Up New SG300-52 L3 Switch For Switching And Vlan

Mar 4, 2012

i was trying to set up a new SG300-52 L3 switch for switching and Vlan. The problem is that the vlans on this switch cannot get their DNS resolved. Probably a stupid thing i can't get to see, but i think it is a simple solution given switchin is not my expertise. So my setup:

- ISP Wan router: LAN ip 10.0.0.1, DMZ: 10.0.0.2 -> i have to use this router for ISP support. But it suckes, that's why we use own router for firewall, port forwarding etc.

- Nice Router: WAN: 10.0.0.2, LAN: 192.168.1.1

- SG300 L3 switch

This works. I can ping switch, nice router, ISP router and google's ip from VLAN 5.But i cannot ping google using host name. From within SG300 i can. So it has something to do with SG300 not doing DNS right. My Client on VLAN 5 has ip 10.1.1.5 / 24, default gateway and dns pointing to switch: 10.1.1.1.I have put an entry in DNS servers in SG300: 192.168.1.1 active (pointing to Nice router). On client leave default gateway pointing to switch. But put DNS server : 192.168.1.1

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Switch - Device Swamped

Oct 10, 2011

I have a recently purchased 28 port SG300 switch. Everything is working well. Unfortunately there is so much traffic flying around that a 10MB half duplex device is struggling to function as it is overloaded. Removing some of the sources of traffic fixes it.

Fortunately I only need to access that device from one PC on the network. That PC however needs to access everything else on the network.

Is there a simple way to shield the slow device from everything except traffic from the PC ?

The switch is in Level2 mode at the moment. Everything is on a single sub net.

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Switch 2 Separate Networks

I need them to both be connected to different ports on a switch (Cisco SG 300 10 port managed switch) which is then linked to another switch (Cisco Catalyst 2960 48 port switch). Then on this 2960 switch I want the link to be split back into the 2 separate networks. I think that I need to create 2 separate VLANs and assign them to different ports.

Cisco Switches :: SG300 -10 / 16 - IP Based ACL Assigned To Port?

Aug 9, 2012

I'm administrator of small network. I wish to replace my old switches by new SG300-10 and SG300-16 managed switches. I have big trouble in my network because everyone can assign IP his neighbour (or any IP) to his network card. I have policy that IP is 172.16.1.X with x is home number. Could I do that IP based ACL assigned to port where is cable from home example 29, permit only IP 172.16.1.29 (mas 255.255.254.0) (from specified port only permit packets with specified source IP (LAN user IP) other (if user set not his IP) is denied) ?

I want know that before buying equipment. How to configure that ?

I think IPv4 Based ACE, action: permit, source IP: 172.16.1.x (nr of home), widcard 0.0.0.0, destination: any, protocol: any, source port: any ?

and in ACL Binding, I have to bound this ACL to port where user whose IP is in ALC is connected?

Cisco Switches :: SG300-28P GBIC Port Not Transmitting

Oct 10, 2012

The switch has been set to Level 3 Routing.  Port 27 has been in use as a Fiber Transceiver with no problems for several weeks. This week I tried connecting a second Fiber Transceiver to Port 28, and it would not work.

Swapped the physical GBIC modules in the ports, and the situation remained exactly the same: Port 27 works, Port 28 would not work.

Connected to the copper-part of the combo Port 28, it immediately connected and worked fine.

Connected an external Fiber Transceiver Box in place of the GBIC in Port 28, and it immediately connected and worked fine.

Swapped the new Fiber jumper (Port 28) with the existing Fiber jumper (Port 27), and the new connection came up immediately and worked fine.  The existing connection would not work when connected to Port 28.

By "not working", I am not able to ping across the connection.  The link light comes on and blinks.  The transmit/receive statistics show as if data is processing on this switch, but on the other side of the Port 28 connection, the switch shows Transmit traffic, but no Recieve traffic.
