Cisco Switches :: SG200-08 (SLM2008T-EU) IPv4 Packet Loss

May 11, 2011

I recently bought a SG200-08 8-port gigabit switch. The switch firmware is the latest (1.0.0.16). Everything works fine, except that packet loss I have when flood-pinging on the LAN.

I have 3 machines connected to the switch, they have 1000 full duplex links, they all have Ubuntu Linux installed on them, no limiting on the switch (as far as I can tell), no limiting on the machines (nothing like htb, cbq), no QOS set up on the switch, the machines are fairly OK hardware-wise (dual-core, quad-core, six-core). And still, it doesn't matter which way I ping, I get a consistent packet loss of 5-7% when flood pinging:

gimre@voy:~$ sudo ping -n -f 172.16.21.4 -c 10000 -q
PING 172.16.21.4 (172.16.21.4) 56(84) bytes of data.
--- 172.16.21.4 ping statistics ---
10000 packets transmitted, 9247 received, 7% packet loss, time 14944ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.036/0.062/0.290/0.035 ms, ipg/ewma 1.494/0.051 ms

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SG300-10P Power SG200-08 Switch Over POE?

Can a Cisco SG300-10P switch power a Cisco SG200-08 switch over POE?  Or an SG200-08P power an SG200-08 via POE?  I have an area where I'd like to put a small switch, but would like to avoid having to have electrical power run to it.  Or will the SG300 and SG200 POE switches only power endpoint devices such as cameras and IP phones?

Cisco Switches :: SG200 Switch Not Forwarding Packet?

Jan 7, 2013

I have a problem with my SG200-08 Switch the switch not forwarding a special Packet. I try to run a simple Profinet installation for testing on the switch but it didn't work correct. A special packet (Profinet error message) was not forwarded.

I have tried it with different Profinet masters with Siemens Profinet master it works without of problems. With Rexroth master it dosn´t work. But it is the same packet only another Mac Address.

I have added two Wireshark logs, where I have mirrored the slave and the master port. With the Siemens master all packets are forwarding (every packet is double longed) with the Rexroth master the alarm packet was not forwarding (the alarmpacket is lost between the ports).

With a not managed Switch it is no problem too run both Installations correct. I have tried the Factory default Settings of the switch and too deactivate all services of the switch (like Spanning Tree, ..) but it was all the same, the Packet was not forwarded.

Cisco Switches :: Can't Find The Switch / SG200-8 (SLM2008-TNA)

May 27, 2013

I had a SG200-8/SLM2008TNA switch that I was using on my lab network (192.168.9.x)One of my clients had an emergency so I moved the switch to their network (10.1.2.x)I can't see the switch at all! Cisco FindIt toolbar won't discover it (other switches on the client network are discovering OK)I changed my computer's IP to the range where the switch used to live...still can't find it I also don't see any new devices in DHCP with cisco-looking MAC addresses.Of course, the SG200-8 doesn't have its MAC address printed anywhere on it, and doesn't have a factory reset button. It's passing traffic OK but I was hoping to get it configured via web console and set for SNMP monitoring. how to discover/reset IP/factory reset this thing?

Cisco Switches :: SG200-26 Switch Seems Unable To Reboot

Cisco SG200-26 (not PoE model). After a power failure, at restart the switch seems unable to reboot. The power led starts blinking in green, after some seconds the connected ports start blinking as well, but the the switch reboots automatically after few more seconds.I tried to disconnect lan cables, power cord, and reset to factory by pressing and holding down the proper button for 30s and more, but no success. In the small amount of time the switch's ports seem to be powered up, clients don't receive packets, don't ping each other or the switch manage address.

Cisco Switches :: SG200-26 Switch VLAN And Internet Access

May 9, 2012

I start writing this post telling you that I'm not a qualified network admin, so I beg your pardon if I do not use appropriate terms in my question. Also my english in not so good since I'm Italian and my english in almost scholastic.

This is the "story" :

I bought two switches as described above and actually I have to create 2 VLANS as described below :

VLAN id 2     name "Service_A"   ports 1-4
VLAN id 3     name "Service_B"   ports 7-9

all other ports can stay in default VLAN1.

my network infrastructure have some other very simple swtiches connected and 1 soho router (static ip 192.168.1.1) with dhcp active and ip pool address released from 192.168.1.100 to 200.

the SG200-26 have static ip 192.168.1.254   and  192.168.1.253

MY NEEDS:

I need VLAN for privacy matter so all computer connected to ports in VLAN2 cannot see nor enumerate PCs and resources on other VLANs, but I also absolutely NEED that all computer in every ports (and every VLAN even default VLAN1) can access the internet.

Cisco Switches :: SG200 / SA520 - Strange Error On Switch

Oct 17, 2011

Last week and just yesterday, our switch SG200 50/50 logged an error like this:

%CDP-E-MALFORMED_TLV: CDP message from 88:43:e1:ab:66:f8 cached with illegal Appliance VLAN-ID TLV

At the time of the error, the SA520 router's LAN Port 1 where the SG200 Port 49 connected went down. (Light is OFF) So internet is down and other V LAN are disconnected. The MAC address on the log is the SA520 router. This happens 2x now and it needs for me to reboot both switch and router. and goes back again online.

Cisco Switches :: Can SG200-08 Switch Work With Dell PowerConnect 2716

Feb 23, 2012

I have no previous Cisco switch experience. I just received a brand new SG200-08 switch. It replaces a small blue Trendnet 5 port switch. I configured the SG200-08 with a static IP address which is on the same subnet as all our wired devices, then I installed it and connected a computer and printer and another switch to it. The other switch is a Dell PowerConnect 2716. I suddenly have no network connectivity with the router any longer. When I plug the network cable that runs from the PowerConnect 2716 into the SG200-08, the link status light will not go on for that port. I am going to be replacing the Dell PowerConnect with a Cisco switch as well, the SG300-10.

Cisco Switches :: SG200-08 And SG200-08P Fail To Hold Or Update Date / Time

May 24, 2011

SG200-08 and SG200-08P fail to hold or update Date/Time.(New installation for a UC320 setup.)I've got both an SG200-08 and SG200-08P that are failing to maintain date/time when set with "Use Local Settings".  Every restart/powercycle causes them to reset to Dec 31 1969.  Other settings save fine.I first tried to set time via SNTP Unicast using a variety of public time server addresses including the 3 hard coded to the SG200-08 firmware:

Sadly though it always just shows  "Active Server  Server Host Address: 0.0.0.0"  and continues having 12/31/1969 as the date.  Both after a config save and a reboot.I can ping the NTP servers just fine from the switches either by IP or by hostname. At this point I've decided that I must be missing something simple. At least I hope so... otherwise it's a firmware bug which means waiting for a fix.Other devices behind the same firewall/gateway (RVS4000) are updating NTP

Cisco Switches :: SG200-18 To C2960S Trunked - SG200 Cut Off The Net

Apr 29, 2012

how to connect our new SG200-18 to an existing Cisco network, in particular a C2960S.Here's what I've got:

<----- Rest of network ------- C2960S ----------- SG200 ----- (PC connected directly to the SG200)

On the C2960S-side here's what I've got on the corresponding interface:

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
switchport mode trunk

On the SG200-side I've set the IP-address and default-gateway accordingly, however:From the SG200 I can't ping any other host on the same IP-subnet as the switchFrom the SG200 can't ping the default-gatewaycan't ping from any other host or the default-gateway *to* the switch But:On the SG200 I've got plenty of MAC-addresses under "Dynamic Address Table" - however only MAC-addresses that belong to the management-VLAN of the SG200 (i.e. VLAN9 in my case)The MAC-address table on the SG200 even includes the MAC-addresses of hosts on the same VLAN I tried to ping without success. For example: I tried a PING from a host having a MAC-address of 00:19:bb:31:91:30. This MAC shows up in the arp table of the SG200. To cross check I connected a dedicated PC to the SG200 and assign it an IP-address out of the management-LAN-range of the SG200 - in this case I can access the switch (i.e. PING, WEB etc.)So to summarize: Connectivity is OK when going from directly connected devices to the SG200. No connectivity from devices that are behind the C2960S towards the SG200 and vice versa. (The problem is definitely not with the C2960S-side since we've got plenty of them hooked together without problems.) I'm enclosing the screenshots of the corresponding definitions on the SG200.

Cisco Switches :: Very Slow Transfers Between SG200-18 And SG200-8?

Apr 16, 2013

I'm baffled by the poor performance that I'm seeing when passing traffic between my two Cisco SG switches.

The configuration is as basic as I can make it, no VLANs, QoS or bonding.  Both have been updated to current firmware as part of the troubleshooting process.

When I transfer data within one of my switches I see 50/60Mb/s. When I pass the same traffic between both switches I see 0.6 Mbs/ or less.

I have tried to eliminate every possible factor including switching out the cables.  No success.

Cisco Switches :: SG200-18 Switches With LC Single Mode Fiber SFP's

What hardware should be used to accomplish this? A L2 switch? For example, a 12 port SFP Switch with Fiber SFP's accepting the first 12 fiber connections, then other switch with SFP for the next 12 and so on, until there is a overall capacity of 36 and having patch cables between the 3 switches?

what cisco or non cisco hardware would work with these SF200-18's to accomplish this?

Cisco :: 3750 Stack Member Loss Power?

Jun 10, 2012

I have a switch stack with three WS-C3750X-48 switches running 12.2(55)SE. Recently, stack member 3 went offline for a few minutes, after being online for over a year. A show version on member 3 reports that the system returned to ROM by power-on.

Stack member 3 shares a UPS with a router that did not lose power and all three stack members have stack power with four 350 WATT power supplies between the three of them. There are no crashinfo files on any of the switches, log files show the stack ports on the other switches going offline then switch 3 being removed from the stack.

Surveillance recordings show there was no one near the switch during the time and AAA accounting shows no clues. Is it possible the switch crashed without leaving a trace in the logs, a crashinfo file and report that it returned to ROM by power-on?

I've read before that loose stack cables can cause stack member reboots. Would such an event generate log messages other than the stack ports changing states to down?

Cisco Switches :: Replacing Some Netgear Switches With SG200

May 16, 2012

We are replacing some netgear switches with the Cisco SG200.  The situation is relatively straightforward.  We have a series of VLAN's coming in on a trunk from a service provider for our Metro Ethernet locations.  These trunks then get cross-connect to various location for connectivity.  The problem we have is there are two VLAN's that need to go to the same switch which provides access to our public IP block.

I set up the two VLAN's on the SG200 with the trunk port VLAN tagging on the service provider port.  Then I set up a separate port for untagging the traffic with the PVID of the respective VLANS's as follows: [code] The public switch has no VLAN's configured (it is an SG200 too).  If I connect GE2 to the public switch everything works fine.  When I connect GE3 to the public switch, things die.  I thought this might be caused by STP although STP should not be detecting issues like this across separate VLAN's.  Disabled STP, no change. The same configuration with the Netgear worked without an issue.  FYI, the VLAN's cannot be changed...they are defined by the service provider in this particular case.  otherwise we'd just make them the same..

Cisco Switches :: ASA5505 - Does IOS Like CLI Exist In SG200 Switches

Aug 28, 2011

I need to purchase a few Gigabit PoE switches for a small business and I am thinking that SG200 or SG300 switches are perfect for this purpose.

Layer 3 functionality in SG300 switches is not great - HSRP or any other next-hop redundancy protocol is not supported, dynamic routing protocols are not supported, policy-based routing is not supported, etc. I may get one SG300 switch for inter-VLAN routing so that I do not have to send traffic to a Layer 3 device for this purpose, especially because my Layer 3 device (ASA5505) has only 10/100 Mbps interfaces. All other switches in the network don't have to be Layer 3 switches, and I am thinking of perhaps getting SG200 instead of SG300 swithces. However, because I am a long-time Cisco engineer, and know ins and outs of the IOS CLI, I would much rather administer the switches with CLI rather than GUI. So, do SG200 switches provide CLI (even if it is not officially supported) or is the only Small Business switch platform that supports CLI SG300? I do realize that the OS running on these switches is not IOS, but after having reviewed the CLI manual for SG300, I would say that 90+% of commands are identical to IOS CLI commands.

Linksys Wrt4gs - Wifi Hard Resets Every Power Loss?

Every time the power comes back the linksys router completely resets...I have to plug into it and change the SSID, turn security back on, enter the password again, and then I'm fine...can I prevent this from happening? Before I plug into it I see both networks available (mine under my name, but I can't connect to it, and linksys as a public network), is there a step I'm missing to make my router remember it's identity?

Cisco Switches :: SG200 Vlans Across Two Switches

May 22, 2011

I am trying to set up three vlans across two switches. The switches are Cisco SG200 and SG 300 series. There are 20 devices connected to the two switches including a router for Internet. Among these devices are five wireless access points all hardwired to the LAN. If I understand correctly the first thing I have to do is aggregate the two switches. I ran two cat5 cables to ports 1 and 2 of each switch. As I understand it all I need to do is to create SAG with the two ports on each switch. I think I need to use tagging but I don't really understand how to do this. Once I get the trunking set up correctly I want to create one vlan to which all devices will belong for Internet access. The other two would be for data and VoIP. Do I create vlans with the same name on both switches? When I assign the devices (by port) do I need to enable tagging? Which type of port setting should I use? I am assuming that by including the acess points in the vlans will mean that any wireless device connected to them will have acess to the Internet and the devices in the same vlan.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Wipes Attached HDD On Power Loss

Dec 18, 2011

I'm loosing about 40GB of data. If worst comes to worst i might go with another brand of router instead as i don't wanna waste a lot of money again as i currently feel i have with the E4200. Enough whining, here is my problem. The FTP and Media Server feature works nicely. I have a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD attached to the router's USB port. I use it for images and my music collection ripped there so i can play it all from my PS3 and TV. I also have many GB of video recordings and converted DVD discs for easier access. (And no, before anyone speaks of piracy, it IS legal, at least in my country, to back up your legit media) Now, everything worked fine, until one day after a few weeks, the router hanged for some reason so i decided to reboot it. To my disappointment it also wiped video and audio from my HDD which really got me pissed as i lost all track of what i had on the HDD. The Media Server was also having connection issues once in a while so i decided to update the firmware from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03. It immediately fixed the connection issues of the Media Server. Another noticeable change is that files transferred via FTP will show immediately via the Media Server without the need to update the database via the router as i needed to do in 1.0.00. Now today there was a power loss in the neighbourhood so the router went dead along with the HDD. To my big disappointment, everything was gone from the HDD when i started it up again. Images, music, video and even my application backups etc. It was just plain empty except for the root folders. I have done a few tests and figured that even if the HDD stays on, cutting the power to the router will wipe the connected HDD. What's up with that? Even a silly Windows PC wont nuke your files that much if an accessed HDD was disconnected while in use. Do i really need a UPS system for the router and safely disconnect the HDD from the router via the user interface every day? If so, the concept of having a router with these nice features is really useless and money theft in my opinion.
