Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750-x Won't Power Up

Oct 31, 2012

I recently bought a bunch of cisco 3750-x switches. I configured them all and started deploying them. A day later, some of the switches started failing on me. When I connect the power cord to the AC main, the power supply module on the back shows "AC OK" LED Green but the "PS OK" LED shows Red. I started referring to the installation guide and it told me that "PS OK" LED turns RED when output has failed. Guessing this I checked with another power supply module that was working, but still I get the same LED indicators.The original power supply module works with other switches.IOS crash...?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Power Series Cabling On 3750 Switches?

Oct 22, 2012

I am connecting power cable (series power cables) on 3750 stacks. i have connected them the same way the stack cables are connected i.e. fo rexample on a stack with 3 3750s:

1- fitst slot on fist switch connected the second slot last switch in the stack.

2- second slot/ port on the first switch to the first on second and seoncd on teh second switch to first on the third switch.

this how they are alway been stacked.Now, I need to connect power cables and I have followed the same method for stacks up to 4 switches. it seems that if a stack has more tham 4 switches, then the cabling will be dofferent!?I was wondering what will be on the cabling scheme for stacks more than 4 switches.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Power-Redundancy Mode Combined And Power Fail

Feb 28, 2011

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment  I am using the default configuration:

power-redudancy mode redundant

The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.

I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.

So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"

The 6500 config guide states:

"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."

Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Stand Alone Secondary Power Supply Act As Pool Of Power

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Replacing 3750 24 Port With 3750 48 Port?

May 21, 2012

We have a stack of switches that is at the max number of members allowed in the stack. Problem is we are running out of port density and need to add more ports. So instead of adding a whole new stack I would rather replace 2 of the 24-port swicthes with 48-port switches.

If the two 24-port swicthes we are removing are stack members and neither of them are the stack master, I should be able to replace the 24-port switches with the 48-port switches without bringing the master offline? If the new 48-port switches are running the same IOS version as the current 24-port swicthes, they should add themselves to the stack?Would I have to tell the new 48-port swicthes what switch numbers they are replacing in order for them to be added to the stack since we are at the max number of members?Also since the 48-port swicthes are replacing 24-port switches will the master give the 48-port switches the configuration for only the 24-ports?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Power 3560CG-8PC-S By PoE

Sep 4, 2012

I got some specs here that I can't seem to match with any existing switch - unless the 350CG-8PC-S can be powered by PoE.Let me quickly put down the important specs.

8x Gigabit ports
2x 1G Copper or 1G SFP Uplinks (It'll be a 1x Copper and 1x SFP setup)
support for PoE passthrough ( so just capable of it, provided it's 2x Copper Uplinks )

Does that match the 350CG-8PC-S ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Power Needs For PoE

Mar 21, 2013

I am building a switch stack using 4 48 port 3750X switches that will also have the power stacked.  If I install a single 715W power supply in each switch will the stack support 802.3af accross all 48 ports on each switch?  My calculations are 48 ports x 15.4W which gives me almost 740W needed which is over hte 715W power supply.  I was reading somewhere were it mentioned that in a powerstack additional power can be drawn from the stack.  I know this will not work if you are trying to support power on all switches accross all ports but would it if say 2 of the 4 switches are needing to provide PoE accross all 48 ports?  If I say we can only use 24 ports per switch for PoE that drops the power need down to 370W which I believe should work.  Just trying to get a better understanding of PoE consumption.  Would the best solution be to just add a second power supply to each switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Increase PoE Power On 2960-s

Oct 16, 2012

I got a Cisco 2960-S LAN (support PoE+) switch installed in one of my customers' office. The customer needs to plug some cameras to the switch and need inline power from the swtich.

Two of the cameras requires 24W power in order to work correctly, if just use normal PoE power, can't get all functions working and get an error message on the screen says "not enough power" or something like that. I have configured those two port to static power inline (on a max value which is 30W). Once the configuration applied, shut/ no shut the port, the error message disappeares for a few minutes, and then comes back. Looks like the power level is still on PoE not PoE+.

Is there anything I can do on the configuration to increase the inline power and provide a stable power to that kind of devices?
