Cisco Switching/Routing :: CGS-2520-16S-8PC - Not Applying POE Power To Copper Ports

Feb 4, 2012

I have a situation where two of my CGS-2520-16S-8PC switches are not applying POE power to the copper ports, but showing power inline, two ports are showing power applied. Shutting down the port and re-enabling it will return the port to normal and the phone will connect.

I'm running cgs2520-lanbasek9-mz.122-58.EY2 after using 122-58-se1. Happening on both, but i have more switches running EY2 with no issues at the moment. Using DC power supply averaging around 53v.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750x Switch That Handle Its 24 / 48 Ports At 10 Gbps With Copper

Dec 19, 2011

Is there a switch that handle its 24/48 ports at 10 Gbps with copper?. I have checked  3750 X but just handle 2 SFP with 10 Gbps.The requirement is to use this switch as CORE and connect 12 switches (access) using  its uplinks at 10 Gbps  with copper ( in this case 3750 X can be used).using copper at 10 Gbps the distance is still 100 m?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: PoE Switch Ports Stops Supplying Power On Cat 4507e

Dec 11, 2011

i  recently deployed cat4507e switch along with  3 nos of WS-X4748-RJ45V+E - 48 port gigabit PoE modules. I am using polycom IP560 phones.

I am facing issue of some switch ports (randomly) stops supplying power to phone at random time. So far there are about 4 incident and i have been plugging those connection to different - usused ports.  I am planning to RESET the switch module during weekend and i think it might fix issues with those ports.

But what would be quick and easy way to fix this issue when the issue is faced? How/what to check on switch port interface wrt to power? If switch module is falling short of overall power requirement, is there a way to boost the power?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - PBR Not Applying To SVI

May 12, 2013

We have two L3 3560's.  One 3560 has an upstream MPLS router.  The other 3560 has an upstream backup VPN router.  Both of these 3560's are L3 switches with IP routing enabled.  I created a PBR on both so that specific traffic routes through the MPLS router, while other traffic routes over the backup VPN router.  I'm trying to apply the PBR to the SVI's, on each switch.  However, when I do a "sh run", the PBR does not appear under either SVI.  I've enabled the SDM Routing template, made sure that ip routing was enabled, and even verified that the IOS has the capability.  Not sure what else to check for.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750E / Applying ACLs When Routing Between SVI And Routed Interface?

Mar 12, 2013

Quick question here. Using 3750E series switches with multiple VLANS configured. These switches serve as our 'core'. I have SVIs configured for the different VLANs and add inbound ACLs in each of the SVIs to control traffic between VLANS. This switch also terminates a P2P Ethernet link which connects to our Colo facility. The port used for this is configured as an L3 port. I noticed today that I was able to send traffic across this L3 link that I thought should have been blocked by an ACL I had in place but it wasn't. So the traffic flowed from a port in say VLAN 20 across this L3 link (assigned with an IP address). Would this traffic flow not cause traffic to be checked against an ACL applied in the inbound direction on the SVI of VLAN 20 (int vlan 20)? Traffic does get checked when routing between SVIs. Why would it not get checked when routing between SVI and L3 interface?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: (10.10.50.0 / 24) - After Applying ACL / Unable To Hit Internal Web Server

Apr 7, 2013

This isn't a big deal as the rest of the ACL works fine, but this is an annoynace since the web auth redirects to our company website (internal for now) after successful login.We have a Cisco WLC that provides access to our production and guest wireless environments.  The guest environment of course is in a separate vlan (10.10.50.0/24).  So I created this ACL:

access-list 107 permit udp any host 10.10.2.13 eq bootpc <----internal DHCP server
access-list 107 permit udp any host 10.10.2.13 eq bootps
access-list 107 deny ip any 10.10.0.0 0.0.255.255 <---all internal networks
access-list 107 deny ip any 172.28.16.0 0.0.0.255 <----DR Network
access-list 107 permit ip any any
int vlan 50
Desc "Guest wireless network"
ip access-group 107 in

This ACL basically gives the wireless guests access to an internal DHCP server and full access to the internet.  For the 10.10.50.0/24 scope, the DHCP server assigns Internet DNS servers and my rationale is that wireless clients would access it via the external IP address but I suppose it doesn't work quite like that with the website being behind the same router as the client machines.

Networking :: Procurve Lineup Routing In 2520

Jan 28, 2013

I'm trying to determine what switches in the Procurve lineup will do Inter-VLAN routing on the same switch. Assume a basic 1 switch network.

I've determined that Procurve "Layer 3 Lite" will do static routing but not dynamic routing. So I would assume their Layer 2 switches do absolutely no routing. However I have a 2520 in front of me that HP claims is Layer 2 only yet I can route between VLAN's on that switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Power-Redundancy Mode Combined And Power Fail

Feb 28, 2011

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment  I am using the default configuration:

power-redudancy mode redundant

The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.

I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.

So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"

The 6500 config guide states:

"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."

Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?

HP ProCurve 2520 - Network Switch Replacement

May 1, 2013

we're running some HP ProCurve 2520's (24 port PoE for desktops/phones) and 2510's for our server racks. The CPU's are a bit weak from what we can tell and sometimes end up with issues on them. The specs on the EAS series look like a decent jump compared to the older HP's. However I've never worked with these ever.

My other option is to go back to Cisco. However to make it fit our budget, we have to dump gig switches for 10/100 + PoE. Which isn't really a major issue on the desktop switches. We'll naturally put gig versions on the server racks. I like our ProCurves, however they cause issues from time to time.

I've also considered going back to Adtran, however I haven't kept up with what they have to offer. I'm tempted to play it safe and go the Cisco route. We're using ASA5510's active/passive for routing/firewall (gig versions).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Power Needs For PoE

Mar 21, 2013

I am building a switch stack using 4 48 port 3750X switches that will also have the power stacked.  If I install a single 715W power supply in each switch will the stack support 802.3af accross all 48 ports on each switch?  My calculations are 48 ports x 15.4W which gives me almost 740W needed which is over hte 715W power supply.  I was reading somewhere were it mentioned that in a powerstack additional power can be drawn from the stack.  I know this will not work if you are trying to support power on all switches accross all ports but would it if say 2 of the 4 switches are needing to provide PoE accross all 48 ports?  If I say we can only use 24 ports per switch for PoE that drops the power need down to 370W which I believe should work.  Just trying to get a better understanding of PoE consumption.  Would the best solution be to just add a second power supply to each switch?

Often I can also connect an 802.3af device to one of the troublesome ports and it will received power, however I am noticing there are some ports that now refuse to supply PoE at all?

This is equipment that has been running perfectly fine for several years now, on C3524 PWR XL switches. I can also tell you that this is not isolated to one switch, but all 5 of our SG300 access switches. And, yes, the firmware has been updated to 1.1.2.0.

Two of the cameras requires 24W power in order to work correctly, if just use normal PoE power, can't get all functions working and get an error message on the screen says "not enough power" or something like that. I have configured those two port to static power inline (on a max value which is 30W). Once the configuration applied, shut/ no shut the port, the error message disappeares for a few minutes, and then comes back. Looks like the power level is still on PoE not PoE+.
