Cisco WAN :: 1841 With 3G HWIC - Backup WAN Connection?

Jul 3, 2011

I'm trying to backup my primary WAN with secondary backup connection - 3G WAN through Cellular 0/0/0.Point  is that I need to track some external IP address on my primary  interface, for examle 8.8.8.8. If it is not reacheable, then router  brings up backup connection - 3G. This can be done by using  dialer-watcher.Simple.But unfortunately my primary WAN interface is an  FastEthernet, which is the coonected to a switch, switch to WAN . There  is no dialer-watch commands on it. Thats sad .

One more time :

WAN -> SWITCH -> ROUTER(WITH 3G HWIC and Fa 0/0 connected to switch).

Cisco WAN :: HWIC-3G-HSPA - How To Keep 3G Connection Up As Backup

Apr 6, 2011

I have many HWIC-3G-HSPA cards as backup connections and I need to keep them up for monitoring purposes. Being a backup connection they get little interesting traffic for them to spring into life but they are the source interface for a tunnel interface (we use DMVPN). The interface still insists on going down. I have even added static routes to the DMVPN hubs over the cellular interface and they still go down. What command do I enter to always keep them up? I had originally used 'dialer idle-timeout 0' and then removed it altogether which the same results. Below is what I have now.

Adding HWIC To Slot 1 Of Cisco 1841?

Jan 2, 2012

I'm trying to learn a little about Cisco router setup, since I'm fairly well versed in configuration. I have an 1841 w/ K9 that I'd like to set up as a WAN Router to hot swap if one of ours goes down. I installed a VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 MultiFlex card in Slot 1 of the router.

Currently, if I run a "show diag", the VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 shows up in Slot 1 but in the configuration I can't see it or configure it. Am I missing an enable or something? I thought I had to declare card type but I can only do that on the existing card, the router doesn't seem to recognize that the card is there in any place other than "show diag".

Cisco Switching/Routing :: IOS Support For HWIC-1ADSL On 1841?

Unfortunately, it doesn't display in the configuration - nor any lights appear on it for power/link.

My first guess is I need to upgrade my IOS.  The current version on my 1841 is 12.4(17).  Which appears to be pretty current.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1841 / HWIC-AP-AG-A Not Providing IP Address To Clients

Dec 5, 2012

I have not yet completed my CCNA, however I have managed to configure a 1841 router with 1 x HWIC-ADSL1 and it also has 1 x HWIC-AG-AP-A which is the only part I am unable to get working.

The Wi-Fi (Dot11Radio) config has enabled me to see the SSID from wireless devices, but they never get an IP address. I need them to get the same IP range as the DHCP service I have in there 203.35.10.xxx, there is no option for "IP ADDRESS DHCP" only "IP ADDRESS POOL LAN" Lan is of course my DHCP pool name. however I cannot have the same DHCP pool on both Dot11Radio interfaces.

I know I'm missing one very simple command, but as I've never worked with Radio on Cisco equipment, I am unsure how to fix it.

Then once I get that worked out, I need changing the access from OPEN to WPA or WPA2, etc..

IOS Software on Router is C1841-ADVSECURITYK9-M - Version 12.4(9) T

I can upgrade to a better version of software if needed, I only have a 32mb Flash and 128Mb Ram.

The current Radio Config is:

!
interface Dot11Radio0/1/0
no ip address
no ip redirects

Cisco WAN :: 877 / 2800 - Use Static ADSL As Backup Connection

May 3, 2011

We have a few WAN connecting sites to ISP using BGP. we are looking at getting backup link for 1 site.

We have decide to use an IP WAN ADS L link. we will have 877 and 2800 for each link. from understanding, we have a static routing on IPWAN service. means when both BGP WAN and IP WAN connected to the ISP. ISP will use ADSL as primary ignore the BGP link. so other sites will see a BGP route coming from ISP via the ADSL link for this location.

So we have find a manuel solution, leave ADSL unplugged of power but setup same LAN ip address and connect the cable towards the core switch. when WAN link fail, switch on ADSL. So the static route will advertise to the rest of sites.

just want to know is there any auto solution can disable the ADSL link/ ppp link when the 2800/WAN route is up. and enable the ADSL port when the WAN is down. not sure if HSRP/backup interface/tracking will work? and how?

site office switch - > 2800  - >  ISP  - > ADSL ->  ISP
(need this link to be backup and protocol down, so the ISP will not able to connect to this link and advertise as next hop)

Cisco WAN :: 1841 Connection Between ISP And Firewall

Apr 2, 2012

I have a Cisco 1841 serving as a connection between my ISP and my Firewall (non Cisco).

I seem to be having performance issues with my traffic going through the Router.HTTP (web browsing) is fine andI get my download rate as I would expect for a 10mbps connection.But anything to do with my VPNs I find a delay when sending via the 1841.(all my VPNs are managed by my Firewall and I have never had problems with those).

I also have a legacy ADSL connection to my firewall, which bypasses the 1841 and I am having no issues on that at all.If anything it is quicker! Which is madness as my Fibre should out-perform it easily.This leads me to believe the issue is not with the Firewall.

My 1841 is very simply setup, 2 fa interfaces with simply a default gateway setup within it.Which leads me to ask if I need more static routes in or a dynamic route protocol setup?

Cisco WAN :: How To Do IPL Connection Using 2801 Router To 1841

Dec 26, 2012

I  need some clarification if it is possible to do an IPL connection  between Cisco 2801 (T1) to Cisco 1841 (E1) via Ethernet (2801) to Serial  (1841).

I am unable to find any documentation about this and I need to connect our network to our overseas office.

Our side uses the 1841 router and our provider has set-up our E1 connection to be via Serial interface while on our overseas office uses the 2801 and will connect via the T1 card, which by  the way does not have any serial interface ports just ethernets.

So far checking on how to configure this, I am unsure on how the connection will happen since the info that I got is that T1 does not have the option to hold an IP address (also unsure on this though). With this in mind and that the 2801 does not have serial interfaces, does that mean that IPL connection would be via the available Ethernet ports?

Cisco WAN ::1841 Routers Handle 45Meg Connection?

This is only a small portion of our network but my question is, can these 1841 routers handle a 45Meg connection?  I thought these routers were designed for T1/E1 type speeds.  I know I saw a router performance document somewhere that showed 1841's could handle 38.4MB of traffic and that is only with routing turned on.  If anything else is enabled, like access lists, NetFlow or whatever, that number will decrease because of the capacity of the router.  Am I correct in these statements?  Any document or anything else that shows performance of these routers?
