Cisco WAN :: 1841 Router Hangs Or Not Booting Up Properly
Jan 1, 2011I have Cisco 1841 Router with no WIC cards and USB.
Image is ipbase and on the flash. When it boots it gives the error and hangs - I changed the register value to 0x2142 but no change happened.

Router Keeps Booting Everyone Off
Dec 23, 2012Having a problem where the router will randomly boot everyone off the network and display a "limited access" status. This happens every few hours and it's actually pretty annoying. I downloaded the wireless test and these are my results. If it matters at all, our Router is "Mendes". [code]

Every other device has no issues whatsoever, I can even sit with my laptop behind my pc and have a decent connection. Jan 12, 2011I have a Netgear CVD31T modem delivered by my internet provider. I can't change any settings on the modem. My connection speed is 30 gb up and 5 GB down.Until now I used a Linksys WRT54GV ver. 2 router to share my connection between my computers and NAS server and it worked ok. In speed tests I normally get approx 25 - 28 GB speed. To optain more speed on my LAN I want to buy a GB router. And here started my problems. First I tried a D-link DIR655, then a Netgear WNDR3700 and latest a Linksys E3000. I all 3 occations my WAN speed droped drasticaly down to between 3 - 5 GB speed, at under a ping test I have a loss of between 10 - 30 % and time on approx 50 ms.If I connect my PC directly to the modem or re-connect my old router it works perfect. I have tried to replace cables etc. etc.

Feb 11, 2013So I have a DIR-825, I got from a family member as they didn't need it anymore. (Don't know if its under any warranty at all) I have a few different problems with it:
1. It doesn't install correctly. I insert the disc, the "Checking adapter enabled" finishes quickly and easy. Then the "Checking network status..." goes for about 30 seconds - 1 minutes and then I get the "Your new router does not appear to be connected properly." It gives the Follow these steps message of checking connections/resetting/etc, which I have done multiple times without success.
2. Despite the failed install, I DO get an internet connection. It starts to get weird though. I have 3 different connections currently connected to it with the following properties:
Modem>Computer (Wired) - 16 MB/Second
Modem>Router>Computer (Wired) - 3 MB/Second
Modem>Router>Laptop (Wireless) - <1 MB/Second
Modem>Router>iPhone (Wireless) - 13 MB/Second
I've tried looking through the options on my router but nothing looks like it will work .

If I give it a few seconds, usually never more than a minute (30 seconds on average it seems), it corrects itself and gives me back internet access.

First, it was loaded with 1.0.4 firmware and my girlfriend's XP laptop would connect but drop the connection a lot. My Windows 7 laptop wouldn't connect at all. After trying everything someone recommended upgrading the firmware to 1.0.7. Well, now my Windows 7 laptop connects but the XP laptop will not. The DHCP won't assign it an IP, although it says it's connected.

When I tried to change the router's password from the familiar "Admin" to a WEP code, the change was never made, although I clicked on "save settings". This has been a persistant problem. I solved this by clicking on "Administration>Management" and entering my own code, however, this has never been necessary before.I am also getting inconsistant "DNS errors". It appears erroneous addresses are being generated.I've downloaded and installed updated firmware.This Linksys router uses WEP security.

Feb 25, 2012I have had a heck of a time getting this server up and running and it looks like I finally have it, except for one thing. Everything works except for the vpn. I do not have the vpn portion on the router configured since the SBS server will be acting as the vpn host, but maybe I need to configure the vpn elements on this router for it to allow vpn connections in?The other thing that is "off" as the title of this post indicates is that the server is not showing up on the router's attached devices under the correct name. It's showing as some generic WIN-****** nameI am doing this project for a non-profit without compensation and the networking part of it has been a nightmare. So any solution that doesn't entail me reconfiguring the server. Everything else appears to be functioning properly, dhcp, dns, ingoing, outgoing mail and the web interface.

Oct 19, 2012 I have a linksys 1500, connected to a cablemodem. It has firmware 1.0.04 (but this problem happened with earlier firmware that it shipped with).I have a problem with the DHCP server on the E1500 - or maybe its a bad client - one of my clients, happens to be an iPad-2 doesn't seem to get properly connected. all of my other wireless DHCP clients - windows vista, windows 7, linux, android, mac and an old iPad1 all connect without problems. I also have wired devices that get their IP via DHCP for my TV, blu-ray, slingbox, DVR, without problems, its just this iPad2 that tries to connect, seems that it does, but can't access anything on the internet.I see this on the DCHP Client list (Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table from the web interface) and I'm quite sure this is the cause of the problem with the iPad2. that MAC address is the address of my iPad2, and that IP# is the one I reserved for it.
I've set up that MAC address to have a reserved IP#, and forced the client name to Rays-IPad2 (as its named on the device) but it has the same behaviour as letting the DCHP server give it an IP# from its address pool. And if I reboot the E1500 and reboot the iPad2, it does actually connect for a few seconds, I can bring up a page in safari, etc, but soon within a few seconds, it switches the client name to this display of question-marks (non printable characters presumably) and it can no longer get to the internet.Is there anything I can do or try? There isn't another DCHP server running on the network, I don't know if something with the cable modem is causing a conflict, and if it were I'm not sure what I could do about that.

Ipconfig /all shows the IP address as 169.254.117.71 but this is determined by an entry in the registry at HLMSYSTEMCurre....'DhcpIPAddress' - REG_SZ - 169.254.117.71. Also listed at 'IPAutoconfigurationAddress'. My laptop connects fine plugged into the same port getting it's IP automatically (192.168.2.2) and getting internet fine. I've tried adding a DWORD entry 'IPAutoconfigurationEnabled' = 0, also tried deleting the 2 values.Tried setting the IP manually to 192.168.2.6 - limited connectivity goes away but I get no internet connection from the router nor file sharing.

Jul 18, 2011I decided to play around a little more with the media server feature... I've succeeded in getting SOMETHING consistent out of the 1.0.02 firmware. It's not 100% useful.
Here's what I did - whether it's pertinent, who knows:
1) I made the Media Server "Name" completely unique. My router's name was "Penguin" and that seemed to proliferate throughout the settings on the router everywhere (SMB server name, FTP, Media Server, etc.). I decided to just call the media server "Server." I then checked the option to DISABLE the server, and saved settings.
2) With the Media Server OFF, browse to the share on the USB drive, and completely delete the T wonky folder.
3) On the Media Server page of the router config, add your media sources.
4) Enable the Media Server, save, and you'll then see the T wonky folder come back, and if you go into that folder, you'll see some files being "built."
I tested a few videos and some music with the XBMC media player on my Mac book and a Windows 7 PC. I was able to add music and video sources on my small selection of test music and videos. I was also able to play them. MP3 tags and embedded artwork showed up properly, and the streaming over wireless was very good.
Now... Here's the kicker. This was just a VERY small sample of my entire collection. I had about 5 albums in MP3 format on the drive, and about 10 movies that I personally converted to MP4 with Handbrake (ripped each movie to about 1.4gb). When I threw my entire 90gb music collection on the drive and told it to scan (it, being the router Media Server page), it seemed to populate the albums up to a certain point, and then crashed. I saw the data files in the T wonky folder getting larger for about 5 minutes, then it stopped growing. At that same time, XBMC wasn't able to see any music or videos. Even after turning off the media server, then re-enabling it, I wasn't able to see anything. If I deleted the T wonky folder, and went back to a smaller subset of my collection, it once again worked "reliably."
So, one of several things is happening here.
1) There are certain files the media server cannot properly parse, and it's crashing the services that run it.
2) Something is corrupting the media database files which then prevents it from showing up.
3) There's a maximum number of files or file size that your collection can be.
If only there was a syslog we could get to on the stock firmware... Linksys.
Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Getting DHCP Reservation To Work Properly With Windows 7 Machine
Jun 7, 2011I have the e4200 and I am having trouble getting DHCP reservation to work properly with my Windows 7 machines. Perhaps there is a step that I am missing. Basically I go to the DHCP reservation setup page, select my machine and add it to the reservation table. Then I save the changes. As soon as I do this my computer goes offline. If I reboot my machine, it is still offline. I've tried the same procedure to reserve the IP address for my phone and it works fine so I wonder if the problem is with Win7.

Cisco Firewall :: PIX 515E Stop Booting Up?
Sep 18, 2011I have the following Pix 515E Firewall, that has been working good for a few years. But suddenly, the Pix stop booting up. The only thing that is happening is the power and network traffic led flashes and the active led is off. So my question is that is this symptom a hardware or software problem and is it fixable with either new parts; or is my firewall dead. I suspect that it is a hardware problem since the active led doesn't light up. I cann't even enter the ROM Moniter mode.
