Constant Drops When Connecting 2 Wireless Routers?
Aug 30, 2011
Basically my sister, who lives in a flat attached to the side of my parents' house, wanted me to find a solution for her to get internet, as there is no signal from my parents' wireless down in the flat.Originally I tried an old belkin wireless range extender I had lying around but even then the signal was extremely weak and the connection was too slow. So, I decided I would get some powerline adapters. But, of course, my sister needs wireless, so I figured I would use the powerlines to connect a second wireless router to the existing one.And so begin my real problems. The thing is, it actually worked fine at first. I set up a new wireless network, and had the ethernet from the powerline running in to the WAN port of the second router. But, every few minutes or so the connection would just die suddenly and take a while to come back (the connection was still there, but the browser just gave DNS errors etc).So I did some googling and fount a lot of people saying that I had to A) plug it into one of the LAN ports, not WAN, and B) disable DHCP on the second router. However when I do this I simply cant load anything at all. I'm thinking maybe there's some additional setup regarding static IPs or something that I need to do when I disable DHCP?

I currently live in a fairly-large apartment in Downtown San Francisco and as you can probably imagine, I have ALOT of interference with nearby residential and business wifi's, microwave's, cell-phones and all that jazz.
I currently have the ATT Elite DSL package, which is I believe the 6MBPS(?) package? Anyway, it's the $40 package and I want to say it's either the second or third up from the basic 19.95/month subscription. Here's my problem: ever since I moved into this building, I get signal drops on my ATT all the time--like at least once an hour if not more often. I had a technician check the wiring and he even replaced the router box (they always do) in hopes of improving the situation but so far, no dice.
I have tried switching to different channels after using scanning to see what channels other internet users nearby were using, but I did not see any improvement. The best solution I've been able to come up with is to set my router to be on 802.11B only. For the most part,I have not disconnected but I do feel a certain amount of slow-down or lag compared to my 802.11G settings. Now,I might be paranoid but it certainly does take a good amount of time longer to load up pages and such as compared to previously. The tech suggested I look towards getting an 802.11A/N router, but alas ATT does not support routers of that caliber...not sure why. It's been years and they're still stuck with the 2Wire 2701HG-B model for DSL.

In the past week I have been getting totally random disconnects from my modem. Sometimes it works great, other times it will essentially cease to function as it tries to sync to bells lines, it seems to be worse at night from what I've seen. I have called my ISP over 4 times, had 3 separate techs come to my house and replace everything from the router to the Internet port down the road. The only thing that has not been replaced is the actual phone jack in my wall but every tech has looked at it and said its functioning fine. I am at a loss, and on the verge of canceling my service with my ISP at this point. Problem is I cannot get rogers for various reasons, so bell is my only option for high speed internet, so canceling with them sorts leaves me high and dry.

We have approx 40 branch offices - all of which are connected to a single core site over VPN Tunnels using various gear. At one particular site, we are having issues with the tunnel dropping sporadically throughout the day - some days it happens 10 times, some days it happens none. This just randomly started happening two weeks ago, without any changes taking place. Since it started happening, I have upgraded the code to latest versions, but still the issue persists. This particular site has a 2901 and connects back to a 2951.
Below is the output from:

Ive been through 5 routers. All of them, except ONE has had a very annoying problem. The WiFi disconnects like anything randomly. The funny thing: The 4 that disconnect have all been working on 802.11n 300mbps. The 802.11g DG834Gv5 is as solid as a rock, maintaining connection for months on end, no wireless dropouts. Ive tried fiddling with the 4 routers (DGN2200, DG834N, Belkin N1 Vision, and another one ive forgotten), putting them onto 54mbps, which always works perfectley. When its on 145mbps or 300, they disconnect. No pattern, just fall off. When reconnecting, I can see them in the network selection thingy, but it just gives me the error 'Cannot connect to XXXX', only solution is to turn off the wireless radio and turn it back on via router interface.

N+ requires constant reboots to maintain speed. When I reboot the router F5D8235-4 v3 it will run at top speed of 10mbps, after a day or two it slows to about 2mpbs. A reboot will speed it up again. I would prefer that it run fast all the time. Firmware 3.00.15

I'm on a Mac connecting to a Cisco ASA 5510 with AnyConnect VPN client.
The connection is established and it works for 15-30 seconds, then the connection drops. AnyConnect will reconnect, and then it works fine.
I noticed in the logs that it reconnects with a smaller packet size.

I've just purchased WRVS4400N VPN router and installed it. This was a replacement of a old Linksys router. After installing the router, I've started seeing wireless drops, packet drops and latency on pings. I've installed the latest firmware, disabled Firewall services, disabled IPS. No changes at all. As a basic example, I am pinging my NAS device (hard wired to router) from a laptop connected to wireless below. Previously while connected to my old linksys router the time was equal to no more than 2ms.

I just attempted to install a brand new WMP300N, and when I give the system power, it continually reboots every 15-20 seconds. The BIOS never logs a problem, so I suspect that the system resets during the POST. I initially suspected a power supply problem, even though I have a 900w power supply. Pulling the card allows the system to boot normally, but after removing power from all drives (ssd, hdd, and dvd),switching to onboard video and pulling my pci-e video card, the system still will not POST, and continually reboots.
I've had this card sitting new in the packaging for a while now (at least a year) and I'm sure I no longer have the receipt. Is there any way for me to attempt an RMA on this card, or am I out of luck for waiting so long to actually open it?

I upgraded my E3000 to a new E4200 several months ago. I use an SSL VPN to connect to work which worked fine on 1.0.01 and 1.0.02 but I upgraded to 1.0.03 to fix an issue where the router constantly reboots when I stream Netflix or Hulu and now the router reboots with Netflix, Hulu AND the SSL VPN tunnel initiation.

I get 5-10 second dropouts in waves pretty randomly. When it happens, I get a couple at a time, and normally have to stop playing out of frustration.I have a powerline adapter hooked up to my pc to the router. That router has an apple router attached by cat5e running a second wireless network somewhere else in the house.I've tried DMZing my pc, disconnecting the apple router, nothing seems to be fixing it.Here are 3 pathpings while my computer is in DMZ, so the router shouldnt be messing with my DHCP (right?). The first one shows it while i was disconnected twice in less than a minutethink this is on my end or my ISP?

I've recently acquired a Linksys E1200 router--which is more than a week old--from the recommendation of a friend of mine. The service is great and all, but the one thing that frequently bothers me is the seeming constant instability of my router's model. There are moments when the router performs smoothly, but there is as much an instance because the router doesn't seem to work at all even when the lights (and the accompanying connection) on my modem seem to be working in good order.
I know that a router will always have its problems, but this is really a constant problem with the E1200; and if so, if there's any way possible on how I can be able to "stabilize" the said router's performance.

I have an RV042 connected via VPN to the office (to a LinkSys DFL-700). Sometimes the VPN is dropped and never activates again. In this state, if I try to connect to the WEB interface, I can log in, but the router hangs at the login screen. I have to power recycle the router to make it work again.
Updated to latest firmware 4.2.1.02 for V3 hardware. The funny thing is that services from the WEB routed through to local IP adresses on the lan is still accessible. I have setup PPPT VPN on the router, and that also fails to work.
Is there, as a workaround, any possibility to access the routers reset page or access via TELNET to reset the router? This migth be useful, when I'm out. (I have a backup solution to access the local network at home).

We have a Linksys WRTU54G-TM that serves both as a hotspot and phone line (T-Mobile). But since it's a G, the radius doesn't cover the whole house. So instead of buying an antenna, we bought another router (Cisco Factory Refurbished Linksys E1200 Advanced Wireless-N).
So the question is: How do we connect both routers to one modem properly, the N-Wireless to be used when necessary?

I recently updated my network with the following:
RVS 4000 v1.3.2.0 - Linksys by Cisco version
SG200-26
AP541N [WAP]
All devices have the latest version of firmware.Users only connect laptops via wireless, they are a mix of MAC and Windows users, devices such as printers and network storage are all wired connections. The RVS 4000 would drop the internal Lan after several hours or sometimes days, there would be no reason to the periodicity it would retain and then drop the LAN. By dropping the Lan I mean:
Internet Access would cease, devices such as laptops would lose their wireless connection, a laptop requesting an IP address would be ignored. Effectively we were down.Connecting a laptop to the network via a cable connection would eventually get an IP address but all other wired devices such as the NAS Storage and printers would be unreachable and require powering off and on to get an IP.
A reboot of the RVS 4000 by powering off the router would have to happen to restore the LAN quickly. I followed advice on the Internet and this forum by upgrading the firmware and resetting to factory defaults and then reloading the configuration. The only change that seemed to make any sort of differnece was connecting the AP541N directly to the RVS 4000 rather than the SG200-26. Throughput increased and the period between LAN drops extended but the RVS 4000 would ciontinue dropping the LAN eventually.
When it dropped the LAN during a work day, that was it!I read a lot of negative feedback on the version of RVS 4000 firmware and as the version 2.0 will not install I purchased the Cisco version of the RVS 4000 v 2.0.0.3.
The new RVS 4000 also drops the LAN! The period between drops is much longer, but it still drops the Lan.Ventilation is good and it is sitting on its edge using the platsic feet that come in the package. The AP541N is still directly connected to the RVS 4000 rather than the SG200-26.how to fix the RVS 4000 or an alternative... I would like to stay with Cisco, an alternative, if the RVS 4000 is unfixable should have a browser based admin facility!

my goal is to share my cable modem signal over my two story house using two wireless routers. The delima is that the routers don't support wireless bridging and if they did, the signal is too weak to make it worth while.
The remedy I came up with... buy a pair of powerline network adapters and connect one router to the other so I could have a good signal upstairs and then a good signal downstairs.
Downstairs, I have the cable modem connected to the Linksys WRT54G router, which has a line out to my blu ray player, wirelessly feeds a PC downstairs and then has a cable run to the powerline adapter.
Upstairs, I have a cat5 connecting the powerline adapter (which was tested and works with laptop) to the data input port on my second wireless router, the netgear wndr3400.
I can't get the netgear upstairs to pull an IP address from the linksys router downstairs over the powerline network.

in our small office, we are using Cisco SRP527W (Router/ADSL Modem all in one ) and D-Link DGS-1210-16 (ports) as our main network devices, our 3 desktops (Windows XP), Avaya phone system and one Brother MFC 6490CW are wired connected to our D-Link switch, port1 of the switch is connected to lan port 1 of our Cisco router, we also have 3 wireless devices connected to the cisco router throught wireless signal (one Broher MFC J6910DW printer, one laptop with Win7, one all-in-one desktop with Win8), as we know, both Switch and Router support Vlan feature, but at the present, I just use default Vlan (Vlan 1) for all our data traffic, I created a DHCP Pool in Cisco router to provide IP address to all our devices (DHCP Pool: 192.168.30.101 - 192.168.30.250, Default gateway is 192.168.30.254), All wired or wireless devices can get right IP address, and all of them are able to get on to the internet, the problem is wireless and wired devices can not talk to each other, for example, my laptop is using wireless connection, when I try to ping a desktop which is wired connected to switch, there is no response, however, if I cable connect my laptop to switch, I am able to talk to the desktop and use its shared resource.

I have wireless router F5D9230-4. I use this every day to connect to my employer's corporate network from my home, using a VPN connection via Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client.
Just about every day my VPN connection is interrupted and, although it "thinks" it is connected, it loses connectivity to my company's corporate resources. This occurs even though I'm connected to my router using a Cat5 cable. While this VPN connection is lost, my Internet connection keeps working.
When I use the same computer, even wireless, connected through other networks outside of my home, the VPN connection is never lost (or at least never that I remember).
When I wire my computer directly to my cable modem, this problem does not occur and my VPN connection stays connected throughout the day.
Note that I reset my wireless router to all default settings other than the password to access its management utility, to avoid any "weird settings" coming into play.
I wonder if this has to do with "VPN Passthrough" or the windows 7 firewall conflicting with my router's firewall?
I've been working with the IT department at my job for weeks on this and a resolution doesn't seem to be coming from that direction. I'm on calls every day that use this VPN connection and it's to the point where these VPN connection losses are embarrassing to me.

I installed the RV220W Router in my office about 2 weeks ago and everything works perfectly for 3-4 days but then my connection drops out and the router must be restarted to restore connectivity. When I say the connection drops basically the internet connection drops out and my network connections drop shortly thereafter. Usually the wireless connections lose connectivity followed within a few minutes by the wired connections.
Is there something in my firewall settings that could cause this issue? I have checked with my ISP to verify there are no problems on their end.

I'm on firmware 1.0.0.26 and I'm seeing frequent drops in the WAN connection. Most network clients don't notice the drop because it reconnects, but the X11 windows server running over a VPN drops the session and I have to re-establish it. I then started the set up wizard and followed the instructions, turning things on in specific order etc. After input the IP and DNS info it reports an error and tells me to check the address information is correct. My internet is a static IP connection (so it tells me and the IP information doesn't change).
