D-Link DIR 655 - Office Network Traffic Monitoring
Oct 4, 2011
We currently have a 3/3 Etherloop. We dont have any internal IT as we are still small and while not a networking guy I can at least understand what is going on. Right now at peaks we are hitting 100% utilization.
We run a call center in house so I am trying to determine at the very least how much of this traffic is from voice data compared to everything else. Was running through our networking configuration and it just seems off to me. The following is the flow.
-Etherloop Demarcation >
-Cisco Integrated Access Device >
-D-Link DIR 655 Wireless Router >
-24port HP Procurve switch >
-24port HP Procruve switch >
Everything up to the first switch is a single line. The first switch has all ports running out except 1 which goes to the second switch. The second switch runs out to machines as well.
I am at the networking level where I understand a switch but have no idea what the IAD really does between the etherloop modem and the wireless router.
For some reason I feel like the router should not be setup in that manner and should be off of the switch. With the cisco IAD running directly to the first switch. So my 2 big questions are.
1. Does this setup even make sense.
2. Whats the easiest way to monitor traffic, at the very least it would be nice to see real time up/down and be able to log in. Then I guess using ports figure out what is being used by voice. My first guess was just putting a machine between the IAD and first switch and monitor and log the traffic.
I have a questions about protecting my network. My parent's have rented out my room, since I'm going to college, and I was wondering if there was a way to monitor the traffic that is going on in my network. Once the guy moved in, the wireless connection speed drastically decreased. I was barely able to sure the internet on my laptop. I currently have about 8 devices connected to my network. I am running a wired connection for my desktop so I don't feel any lag, but everything else runs on wifi.
I have a wireless router (D-Link DIR-625) connected to the modem for our high speed DSL. I have two Brother MFC printers, one is a laser (MFC-9420CN) connected w/ a Cat-5 directly to the router, the other is an ink-jet MFC-6490CN and I would like to use it wireless....but I could connect it to the router if I need to.I have wireless connection to the internet, from my HP 32-bit PC (running Vista-Ultimate), but can not see either of the printers on the network, and cannot print to either. I manually configured both to have an IP within the range of my network, but they still do not work. The problem (I think) could be with the IPCONFIG. (I had no problem last year, but we recently had a few power outages, and now the PC doesn't seem to 'see' any of the printers.) I checked the IPCONFIG. it states 'media disconnected', but I can ping the one wireless printer??? I can not ping the laptop on the network or the laser printer (I confirmed it's ipconfig before pinging).
I know the network card can't be bad, or I couldn't get to the router to access the internet. I also went into the cmd prompt as the administrator and did the /release/renew/all but that didn't work either.

I am trying to set up a VPN access to the office Windows network by setting the pptp options in the WAN area of the networks settings.
I have entered the public IP address of the office network and also the username and password required by the system. When clicking on the connect button the router attempts to connect but then returns a "disconnected" message.

I have been using this router for around 8 to 9 months now. Everything was working fine till one week back. Now I am facing problem with my office emails. I cannot get my office emails while on WiFi network. Outlook is not able to connect to my office server and I don't receive my emails. Rest everything works fine. Initially i used to get all the emails while using this WiFi router. When I connect my internet cable directly to my laptop, i am able to receive all the emails in my office outlook inbox.
I am also using my Samsung Galaxy S3 on this WiFi network. And my office outlook is configured in it. I am facing the same problem with my phone as well, it started recently, around one week back, as already informed above. However, when i switch on my mobile internet, all the new emails start coming to my inbox, which means that there is some problem with WiFi network.
What I am supposed to do which will enable me to receive all the office emails while on this routers WiFi network. Its giving me a hard time.
We've had problems with our internet router losing connection to the internet. All traffic stops, a reboot resolves the problem. The router only has a public IP and it's connect through a dummy switch to the ASA as shown. I want to be able to monitor netflow or something and wondered if I could add a static route to the 10.x.x.x network and then add the netflow commands. Here is kind of how it looks, I simplified it some by removing unnecessary devices
how can I monitor and prioritise traffic on a ASR 1002? Currently we have allowed another organization to use our 1GB link and we would like to monitor what sort of traffic flows through it and want to prioritise the traffic depending on the applications.
I'm thinking of switching to another ISP which is faster and cheaper than who I'm currently with. Only problem is they have data caps. Any way to log inbound/outbound traffic usage with this router so that I can make sure I'm not going to hit monthly limits?
I have a requirement to monitor all traffic going from the internal LAN to the cloud. The LAN is a layer 2 VLAN which spans multiple Cisco 4507 switched and other smaller switches.
The VLAN has an IP address which the hosts use as the default gateway.
The exit port is on a Cisco 3600X switch connecrted to 4507 #1 via a 10G fiber link. 4507 #1 connects the rest of the LAN. Those switches interconnect via 10G fiber and 1G copper links.
Currently the monitor host is connected to a 1G copper port, configured as a monitor port, on one of the backside 4507s The switch manager says he has the switches configured so that I can see all traffic on the VLAN.
We have an SG300 managed switch located in a small business of less than 10 PCs. There has been an ongoing issue with Internet speed. Is there any way that I can monitor the router for traffic so that I can see what might be causing the problem? I would like to focus on the WAN port and Internet activity particularly.
I keep getting warning on bandwidth usage , I'm using a dir-615 routers xp on all machines . The one pc that i use to d/l with I have the torrent monitor on and shows little traffic. Ive heard of a few pieces of s/w but these require software to be installed on all boxes Id like to be able to monitor from one box if possible ??
I had an SMC router before, and I replaced it with this new D-link DIR-655, The problem I am now having is that I used to visit a web based e-mail /OWA Outlook Web Access, After I VPN to my company, but now with this new D-Link after I VPN, I lost the capability of accessing my OWA to read my e-mail
Anu network monitoring software that would monitors constant network connectivity? I am working with a company who uses an Access database that checks members in and out of a gym. 6-8 people work in the database at any given time. Several times a day the users will get a network error and they have to force the database to close. Sometimes this happens to all of the users and sometimes to just certain ones. I believe the problem lies with the database (due to poor programming) but I want to monitor the network connectivity to see if and when the network connection is dropped and determine if that corresponds with when users begin seeing network errors in the database.
It seems that motion monitoring setup for 930L is not working correctly.I've setup the camera to ONLY monitor the half of the screen, but it is still monitoring the other half of the screen as well.I've setup the camera to FTP the messages when motion is detected, and it is uploading the images when the other half contains the motion.

I run a small organisation with 4 pc in LAN with a D-link DES 1016E router, and of course Internet connection through BSNL Broad Brand with a dynamic IP . Kordil EDMS, XAMPP is installed in one of this Pc with XP Pro SP3 and IIS7. I want to establish a easy and Free system through which i can connect my office server from anywhere through browser for editing ms office files at my Office network. suggest a step by step guide. I don't have any system administration knowledge. i have activated Remote desktop, but whenever i am connecting through internet my DSL router configuration page is opening.
I live in a shared flat. And all 20 rooms are connected to this switch I believe. Is there any method to prevent the landlord/tech guy monitoring our internet activity (e.g. bandwidith activity, websites we looked at, etc.
I was wondering if there is a way to monitor the total bandwidth available at any given time? My ISP claims and is charging me for a certain amount of bandwidth but I suspect that during the day I am getting much less.
I would like to track available bandwidth continuously (or every 5, 10, 15 minutes) and log that data so I can show them the results. I'm on a Mac 10.7 but can use Windows XP also.
My ISP provide me with Thomson TG799vn (Gateway). The modem can be used with LAN cable and wifi function on it too.
The only computer that's directly connected to it is mine and I am currently using Ubuntu Oneiric and Windows 7. Is there anyway that I could monitor user (disconnect / ban any unwanted connection) connected to my modem.
From the gateway page I can see the below info but do not know how to use it :
user-0efb5820d0 Information Status:Active Type:Generic Device Connected To:WLAN (Wireless) Allowed on WLAN:Yes Addressing Physical Address:00:1a:13:b6:4d:ce IP Address Assignment:DHCP IP Address:192.168.1.70 Always use the same IP address:No DHCP Lease Time:0 days, 23:03:02
I have downloaded many software but it's useless because it provide me with none of the function I required.
I need to track and record all functionality, connectivity speeds and applications of a remote laptop. Here's the basic set up of my problem:We have 40 medical facilities in five Western States, each with up to 30+ pieces of hardware including thin clients, PCs, laptop computers and wall mounted touch screen kiosks operating on a variety of OS including primarily XP pro, then Linux and transitioning into Win 7.We have installed Aruba wireless network in each building on which our mobile medical cart laptops connect. Each facility has a different mix of primary and backup/failover ISP from DSL, Cable, T1 to Bonded T. All are at or exceed 22MB down, 5MB up save the T1s at their dedicated 1.5 and we monitor speeds and network stats trhough our gateway device. PfSense. All employees connect through an RDP (Remote Connection) to our hosting company in Atlanta, GA where the farm of about 28 servers reside hosting our medical, email and office applications. We regularly are contacted by nursing and clinical office staff complaining that "the network is slow". We review connection speeds, loads, ping times and confirm that there are no ISP Speed issues that are causing the "Slowness". However when we review exactly what the nurses mean by "slow" it invariably turns to how long it takes to log in to the RDP sessions and access then run their medical applications in the RDP. They often sit and wait for the RDP to load for five minutes or more and complain of waiting for their typing to catch up in the applications they work in.
We believe the slowness occurs once they are connected in the RDP and that their problems are occurring at the hosting company's facility, getting through their firewall, through profile management and server hardware/software but we can not prove this is the case because the hosting company always claims they see perfectly acceptable speeds and access on their side and we are locked out from access to monitor tehir environment. Changing hosting companies is probelmatic because they are specialised in our industry and leaving would be diffcult. I need some software that I can install on a few machines in a select few of our facilities that will track and record the actual user experience so that we can watch and review exactly what is happening, what the network stats look like and precisely where the user is experiencing "slowness".
My current IT people are so expensive, I am determined to hook up a new laptop to my office network if it destroys me (wirelessly). I have the office network map with all usernames, passwords, and IP addresses...but I can't figure it out. Can someone give me a step by step for dummies to save me the several hundred or should I just bite the bullet? (I am the business owner and seems like we add laptops every year or so and desktops and would really love to finally understand)
I have an exhibition next saturday on network monitoring and I was given ftp server monitoring project. I'm only allowed to used linux based OS for this project. Right now I have 3 notebook. 1 as a client, 1 as a router and another 1 is for monitoring. Right now, I only can make a connection between the client and monitor notebook by using Freebsd in the router. How to setup a ftp server and how to monitor it?
As per me 24x7 network monitoring service is one of the best technique.Even we can protect large scale or enterprise level network with unwanted attacks or virus. Alternative better option of Network Monitoring Service
My current set-up is: my laptop connects to the coaxial outlet with a cable so I can access the internet. So I can't really bring it somewhere else since the cable is short.
Now, I am planning to buy 2 more computers and a printer. The printer will be shared by all 3 computers. what else I need to buy (modem?? wireless router??) and what type. I also request that you let me know how to set it up. Of course, I will follow the manufacturer's instructions.
I would like to connect my three pcs together so that they can all make use of the printers, scanners, internet etc in my office space. i also need to be able to access this lot from a remote laptop so that i can continue to work from home. i would like to store all my data in one place that was easily accessible from every PC and my laptop.
