D-Link DIR-825 :: Router No Longer Connecting To Internet
Dec 21, 2011
Background: This weekend, I lost my internet connection at home. I called my ISP and they sent someone over. The guy rewired the entire house (our ISP is also our tv cable provider), because he felt that our signal was probably weak due to the wiring. Long story short, after two hours of rewiring and fixing the cable outside out house (chewed through by a squirrel), he said the modem's signal was back to normal and left.
When I plugged the router; however, it refused to hold the internet connection for more than a few seconds. On the front panel, the planet-shaped light turned orange, then blue (for a few seconds) and then turned off entirely. I tried another few times and got the same result. At best, it stayed connected for a minute, until I rebooted my computer. The laptops in our house do read the presence of the router, so it's safe to assume that the problem lies with the router's capacity to receive the signal.

My DIR-655 has been working flawlessly for several months since I bought it. It is connected to Road Runner High Speed Internet from Time Warner. This morning it will not access the Internet. It shows a wireless connection, and I can connect to it via direct wired connection, but no Internet. A direct connection to the Time Warner Cable Modem connects to the Internet just fine. Cycled power on all units, & Time Warner reset the modem. Nothing has fixed the Router.

I just installed Tomato firmware (details below) on my wireless-N router and everything appears to be working fine on the router's end. I can connect to the Internet properly with a wired (Ethernet) connection; in fact, that's how I posted this question.
What I cannot do is connect to the router wirelessly in any way. At first, I thought that something was wrong with my wireless security settings, because I read about some incompatibilities between Windows 7 and AES encryption. However, when I changed to TKIP, the issue persisted; when I switched from WPA2 Personal to WEP, the issue persisted; and when I disabled wireless security entirely — just for testing purposes — the issue still persisted.
My Internet search for this issue brought up a lot of old forum and mailing list posts, most of which were useless. The only one that seemed promising suggested disabling Afterburner, but that came disabled by default on my install. I did try enabling it and then disabling it, but it had no apparent effect.
In case it's relevant: before I installed Tomato, I had a somewhat funky install of dd-wrt on the router. The first thing I did after installing Tomato was a full clean of the nvram through the web GUI's Administration → Configuration → Restore Default Configuration menu.
What do I have to do to get wireless running? I only have one computer available at the moment, but I'll try to update later if and when I can borrow more devices for testing.
Assorted specs:
Linksys WRT160N v3
Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta K26 Mini
Linux kernel 2.6.22.19 and Broadcom Wireless Driver 5.10.147.0 updates
EDIT:This is a computer issue, not a router issue. Two smartphones with wi-fi connections and another computer are all able to connect to the wireless network with no problems. However, the original computer was able to connect to the same router just fine before Tomato was installed. It has an internal wireless-B/G card, and I had Tomato set up to broadcast G-only, so it should have been compatible.
EDIT 2:The computer in question was the only device in the house that wasn't set up for wireless-N, so I went out and bought a Wireless-N USB adapter and changed Tomato to be N-only. Using the new adapter, I get connection again. I suppose it's possible that the computer's OEM internal wireless card failed at exactly the same time that I installed Tomato on the router, but that would be one heck of a coincidence. I'll see if I can connect to some other G or B network next time I'm around one....

So i have set up my Dir-615 router and it worked for about a week perfectly. Then one day i was able to connect to the router, but it says that there is no internet connection. This is untrue since i am able to connect to the internet if i unplug from its WAN port and put it straight into my laptop.

I have in my basement a router (DLink DIR-655) which is connecting to our ISP, and I have cables running to wall jacks in the first floor. A wall jack which terminates in the living room I have connected to a switch, a DLink 10/100/1000 (DGS-1005G). To this I have my PS3 connected which can connect to the internet fine (although it seems to not get the same upload / download speeds other devices get) and my Sony Bravia TV (KDL-46Z5100). The PS3 registers as GB, while the TV 100MB (its port lights orange).
The problem is I can't get the TV to connect to the internet. If I try DHCP, it doesn't seem to find the DNS server (on another switch connected to the same router in a different room). If I hard code the IP address, still nothing.
I found that if I connect the TV directly into the wall, it can connect. It's just through the switch I'm having problems. Additionally, even I then plug it back into the switch and connect the switch to the wall jack, the connect continues to work. It just seems that i can't get it initialize when connected to the switch.

Today my router stops working. There is no internet on wifi even on lan. I thought my ISP is the problem but when I plugged in the wan cable to my laptop there's an internet. I tried to switch off the router and when I turned it on, there's an internet for about 15 seconds then after that there's no internet again. I also restore the router to its default setting but it doesn't solve the problem. This is the first time it happens to my router. I'm not using static ip address

I have a wireless network in my home. I reliably get solid connections on our various devices such as the Wii (netflix streaming), a net book, a laptop and Wi-Fi connections on android phones. When I first set up the 930L I thought it was defective because I couldn't get a connection. Until I did it in the same room as the router okay, that worked. But I move 2 rooms over and I no longer connect.
Seriously, I can go a few rooms away and easily stream an HD movie via netflix to my net book. But if I set up the 930L at the exact same location it will not connect. If I move the camera within about 20 feet of the router with only maybe 1 wall between them, it will connect.
At this level of wireless power it is nearly worthless for me. Is my camera defective or are all of them this lower powered?I am running a dlink router, 300N, WPA security. Like I said, I can connect if I'm literally 10 feet away. But any significant distance or anything more than a single wall in between and the router no longer sees the camera. And all other wireless devices have strong, reliable connections all through my house.

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7. The problem is that every single time I try to connect to any wireless network, I get a message that says "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual."The network almost always connects eventually (about 2 minutes), and once connected there doesn't seem to be any other problem. This has been going on for about 2.5 months. It began shortly after I restored the laptop to factory default.

My E2500 was working great for the past 3 months, and now it seems to be broken since I cannot access the internet anymore. I can connect to the router via wireless or wired at 192.168.1.1 and play with all the settings. On the status page, I have entries for Internet IP Address, Default Gateway, DNS1, and DNS2 as though I was connected fine to my DSL modem. If I connect my computer to my DSL modem then I can access the internet perfectly fine, so I know the modem is working. However, if I connect the E2500 to the modem, and then my macbook to the E2500 then I cannot access anything other than the router config pages. I have also tried, from the router admin page, to ping "www.yahoo.com" and "8.8.8.8" to no avail.
I have tried without success:
1. Renewing IP address from the router status page.
2. Cycling the power on the modem.
3. Rebooting the router.
4. Unplugging the power from both the modem and the router for 10 minutes and reconnecting it.
5. Resetting the router by holding down the reset button for 30s.
6. Using a different computer.
7. Turning off the firewall.
8. Reinstalling the firmware (1.0.01 build 3 May 6, 2011)

I upgraded the firmware on my BEFS41 v4.3 to the Ver.2.00.4 Build 8, off the cisco website. After I received the successfully upgraded message, I could no longer connect to the internet, nor could I connect to the router's configuration page. I tried to do a few hard resets and connecting it to other computers to see any other computers could connect to it, no luck. I tried connecting one computer just to the router, without the internet plugged in, and tried to ping 192.168.1.1 but I received a "transmit failed, error code 1231." Is there anyway I can access this and change the firmware, or am I screwed?

I have had a WRT54G V3 router working successfully for a number of years now with a couple wireless PCs through a cable modem with Comcast as my ISP. All of a sudden yesterday, neither PC could access the internet. No changes had been made to the router.
I contacted Comcast and they of course had me hard-wire one of my PCs into the cable modem. That worked and I was able to access the internet. However, when I tried to put the router back in place (in either a wired or wireless fashion), I could not access the internet.
I've tried following the online Linksys troubleshooting document ion. The lights that should be lit on the router are lit. I can access the router setup web page which shows the settings still intact. I've tried going through the power sequencing to no avail. Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would all of a sudden stop working. My wireless printer still works so it detects a signal and my PC shows it's connected, but no internet access is possible.
What do I need to do? Are there any other diagnostic tools available? I'm out-of-warranty.

I've been testing it out at home where I use another D-Link with no problem. What I'm seeing is that I can connect to the router (wired or wireless) but no internet connection is reported. I believe I have also tried pinging a web site by IP address alone with no luck.
ISP: Version DSL
Router: DIR-615,
Hardware version B2
Firmware version: 2.20
I've tried turning modem and router off, waiting a few minutes, then turning on modem and letting it connect then turning on the router. That doesn't work. As best I can tell the two routers have the same settings. The ISP is using Dynamic IP (DHCP) connection.

I am trying to get neighbour wireless router working. He has a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N 300 Router. I have gotten the router working by manually putting in his PPPoE settings. Now with a wired XP SP3 computer connected via Ethernet, it can access the internet. We then configured his router for WPA2 with AES encryption. We were able to connect up his phone which can handle a WiFi connection. He was able to surf the web using the WPA2 passphrase. So far, so good. The last bit was the upstairs computer which has a PCI D-Link wireless N card in it. That computer runs XP SP2 and we have not been able to get it to connect to the internet. We have tried both Windows networking, and the D-Link Wireless management software. We were unable to get WPA2 working, so we tried WPA, WEP, and finally no security. In each case, we can get the computer to connect to the router by putting in the passphrase (except when no security), and the status changes to Connected. But then browsers are not able to open any internet site.
I have checked the ipconfig settings, they seem to be correct. DHCP is providing the computer with a valid local IP (192.168.0.102), and the gateway is correctly listing the D-Link router.Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. The downstairs Ethernet connected computer has an IP of 192.168.0.100, so they are on the same subnet. We have tried turning "Windows Wireless Zero Configuration" service off, and also tried with it on.We have switched between using the D-Link client and allowing Windows to manage wireless settings. It finds the wireless network, and connects with the passphrase with a good strong signal, but internet persists in not working.I do not have MAC Filtering turned on.I have turned off the Windows Firewall on the wireless computer. What else am I missing?

My computer is almost always on. My modem and router are always on.Last night I was using the internet, no problems. This morning I woke up to find "No Internet Access".My computer was connecting to the router just fine, but the router was showing a orange Earth symbol on the front (not green).I connected the computer directly to the modem and internet works just fine. After powering off both the modem and router and checking all the connections ... still the router is not "reading" the internet from the modem. And still the internet is there if I connect the modem directly to the computer (that's how I am online and posting this right now).

Had this router for few months working fine, than the modem was slow for our house so we got a new modem called Actiontec Model#GT701D. And we did the Set up but the Internet doesn't work anymore. If we connect the modem to Pc, it works but connecting modem to router it doesn't receive Internet. Another problem wad that for the DIR655 to work we needed to connect another router before DIR655 connected to modem, so we needed to have an extra router to get the DIR655 to work.

My DIR-601 stops connecting to the internet so I have to power cycle the router daily, the 2.00 FW is not posted on the DLink Website. I don't have this problem with my Linksys router. E-mailing DLink doesn't facilitate since they tell me to call, and I don't want to sit through menus and scripts. Hardware rev is B1. Connection fails on both wired and wireless. Also, as a side item, D-Link should ignore MAC filter for wired connections.

Wireless works perfectly. Direct connection.

I own a TL-WR1043ND. Until recently it has been working like clock work but after a power cut it seems to have lost its settings. Currently there is a WiFi network: both my iMac and my MacBook Pro manage to create a network between them and i can access / transfer files from one to the other without any problems what so ever. My Gmail app on my iPhone also updates emails on this same network. But when i try to browse the web on both Safari or Firefox or check my email on Mail (OSX email client) I am not being allowed to do so. Its as though there is not internet connection. The same thing is happening to my wife when she is using her Nexus 7.
Unfortunately i have lost my DVD with the setup files and I am there for not managing to access the settings of the router. I have tried searching the web to find the downloadable software but it turns out the only ones that i found are for Windows only. The only way to access the web and update my emails etc is when i connect to the modem via Ethernet cable.

The other day while I was browsing the internet all of a sudden my internet stopped working. I look down below and try to connect to the network again but it no longer shows my network anymore. I went into the room of my router and it looked fine. All lights were lit up like they should be. I turned on my Laptop to see if it was just a problem with my desktop but it's still not showing my network either.
I have restarted my router and reset it numerous times and it has still yet to show my network. It only seems to work if I connect it to my Laptop with an Ethernet cord. I have two different routers (Both Linksys) and they both do not work.I also have two different wireless adapters (D-Link & Netgear) and they both do not work

Any explanation for the move to the DView Cam software ? If I were to convert over to DView Cam from IP Surveillance will I lose any functionality or features. Will there be any functionality or features gained ?

Model : TL-WR941ND
Hardware Version : V3
Firmware Version : 3.13.9 Build 120201 Rel.54965n
We are trying to use a TL-WR941ND purchased about a month ago, but it keeps hanging, usually within a day or so of operation. To be clear: by "hanging" I mean the device stops providing wireless services (its SSID is no longer visible in WiFi clients) and becomes nonresponsive to pings or control access attempts (via settings web page) from the internal network connections. The device is used in a very simple scenario, where it's being employed as a simple access point, not as a router. As such, the device's configuration is as follows:
* WAN interface is configured with a dummy static IP (10.10.10.10/24) with gateway and DNS set to the internal IP address of the actual routing device connected to the external world.
* LAN interface is configured with an IP address inside the actual internal IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24).
* DHCP is also disabled as this service is already provided.
* Wireless settings: radio enabled, SSID broadcast enabled, WDS disabled, 11bgn mixed mode, auto channel width, max TX rate, channel 7 (manually set). Using WPA-PSK security.
Rest of the settings are unchanged from their default values, as the device isn't being used as an IP router by any client - just as a WiFi/Ethernet layer 2 bridge. We're using what appears to be TP-Link's latest stock firmware for the device. The settings described above appear to provide the connectivity required by the WiFi clients. However, the device continuously hangs within a day or so of operation, requiring someone to physically attend to the device and cold-restarting it (disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it) to regain an operational state.
After performing a cold restart, the system log shows nothing beyond the startup entries: "System started" entry followed by security info entries regarding enabled protocols. Then the device appears to work well for a while, until it hangs again, forcing again someone to attend to the device, etc.

The problem that I'm having is basically that my router isn't giving right ip addresses to my devices. I've tried to connect a wireless printer (HP for doubts) and the router gave a 169.254.XXX.XXX ip address to it. If I unplug/plug the router, the problem is solved. It can also be fixed by using the "reboot device" tool that the router has at the configuration page. But this only works for some hours, so it isn't
Now, it isn't a printer problem. It has also happened with some notebooks, with around 5 to 6, not all of them. I've tried changing channels, resetting the router, changing password, security password type, changing firmware (present is 3.11NA H/W C2), and nothing can fix it.
