Home Network :: How To Connect To Remote LAN

Aug 4, 2011

I need to connect my home pc to my office LAN, is there a way of connecting to the LAN remotely as if the pc was locally joined to the network? I don't want to connect to a specific pc just join the network itself. When I logged into the router management I thought I would be able to just specify a remote IP address that would be allowed to connect to the LAN as if it were local but there is no obvious way of doing that. The router is an SMC.

Remote Terminal Over Home Network?

Sep 1, 2012

I've got a decent setup (Vista, 6GB RAM) that I use for web browsing, browser games, and the occasional MMO. My wife has something that works for her for browsing / browser games (Win7, 2GB RAM). Naturally, the kids are always on my machine, and whoever comes second is fine with Mom's. BUT, sometimes that ol' butthead Daddy wants to use his own computer! No problem - Junior got a netbook for Christmas. OH, but... it's not what he's used to... actually, it's slow enough in comparison (Win7, 1G RAM) that he gets frustrated and wanders off[CODE]

Home Network :: Notified When Somebody Tries To Connect On Home Wifi?

Nov 24, 2011

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

Connect To Remote Desktop Through VPN From Public Network?

Sep 7, 2011

I have a user that is in a hotel with a Windows 7 laptop. He is connected to the hotel's public network and it is set as a public network in windows network and sharing center.Usually from home, which is a private network, he can log onto our VPN and then use Remote Desktop to control his work computer (which is Windows XP) here at the office; however, from this hotel, he can still connect to the VPN and access shared drives and all, but he cannot connect to any computer using remote desktop.I've tried everything, allowing remote connections for public in the firewall, even changed the network from public to private and he still cannot connect. Still, he can connect just fine from home.

Can't Connect To Home Network

Jul 23, 2012

Well I am typing to you all from my linux box. I have a desktop that runs Windows XP SP3 and have not been able to get it to connect for months now. I use an smc2862w-g USB card to connect from it ordinarily but like I said, it hasn't connected to my home network for months. It reads and connects to my neighbors networks just fine but for some reason it is isolated to my home network. My home router/modem is an Arris model.Today while I was talking to some guys I know in IRC who work the IT field, I got it to work for all of about 10 minutes. The problem is, is that it was an intermittent sync. I noticed that when I were to change channels in my router it would follow to let's say channel 11 but the card would bounce back and forth between 11 and 10 causing intermittent sync. If I changed to channel 4 then it would bounce between that and 5. Channel 6, same thing and so on and so forth. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with conflicting chipsets between the router and card but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've been in the computer field for a few years now as a Security Specialist and tech support agent so this does not add up. [code]

Home Network Refuses To Connect PCs?

Jul 31, 2011

I have a Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, and a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 that I am attempting to connect to each other on my home network. Their WorkGroup is the same name, and on the Vista, and 7, the locations are a home network. Sometimes I see one computer on the other, but then if clicked, it wont connect and gives me a Cannot connect or computername-PC not found. That, or my computers will not show up on one another. I also have McAfee Total Protection with a Home Network option to 'Trust' each PC to be able to connect them in a network within McAfee and scan each one for virus protection. That will not work either. It did once, but not now. All McAfee versions are up to date yet I see on some devices when they sometimes show up on McAfee that the program on the other computer is an older version. Then, when I do get the option to send a request to 'Trust' another PC, I'll enter a password to be re-entered in the other computer, then it'll instruct me to enter it into that other computer but then it fails before I can do so. It'll say the other computer is not available.

Laptop Will Connect To Every Network Except Home

Sep 12, 2012

My laptop can no longer connect to my home network. It used to connect fine, but I was having problems with my graphics card as every time I went on Youtube it would crash. As a result, I sent it into ASUS (it is an ASUS K52J Series) and got the motherboard and the hard drive replaced. After this, my laptop seemed to be working great. It connected to a variety of networks, including 3 home networks, and 2 public networks. However, it cannot connect to the network in my apartment.

I know this network works and is connectable as my roommate's laptop works perfectly fine. So I know it is not a problem with my laptop since it connects to other networks, and I know it is not the network since other laptops connect to it. I've tried resetting my adapter, I've tried turning off the firewall. Also, I've tried the trouble shooting option numerous times after trying a variety of things that usually fix the connectivity, but it always says that the problem cannot be detected.

It's starting to be really frustrating, especially since I'm in university and sharing a laptop when both my roommate and I need to do work is not convenient.

It stays at "waiting for network to be ready" while at the back the wifi list stays at "acquiring network adress" for a couple of minutes and then resets to regular disconnected status. All my other wireless gadgets at home can connect with no problem whatsoever.Wifi strength is great and, when disabling security, the laptop connects without a hitch and very quickly. I tried all possible security combinations the router can give me, always using a second wifi device to check if connection and browsing was possible.I tried everything I googled: drivers, firmwares, ipconfig reset renew, started and stopped services, to no avail.

Home Network :: How To Connect WAP54g To WRT54g

Jul 18, 2012

Guys I want to connect most of my home to a single router located in basement.I got the router from ISP and hooked it with one of those devices that transmit Ethernet via electricity and in the ground floor I hooked WRT54g to the other device (electricity transmitter) and configured WRT with the following:Disabled DHCP so it will be done by the router.

SSID: MainHomeWAN
Security: WPA Shared.
Channel: 11

On the first floor I hooked the WAP54g and configured it as wireless bridge with the same as above and entered the MAC address of WRT device. The only difference is the channel is 6.In ground floor the signal is great but on first is not because it doesn't get an IP and even if it gets one it losses is soon. So I turned WAP device and I got stale connection but very poor.
