My next door neighbour has just installed a Virgin Super Hub and has 2 Homeplugs on his network. I have a Netgear router and 2 netgear homeplugs on my network, His network is giving my wireless router an IP address which changes my default gateway. Can I stop this by changing my default gateway and subnet mask? if so how and what to?

Home Network Very Slow - Using Spare ADSL Router And Homeplug Networking?

Apr 17, 2013

Today I set up a home network:Cable router plugged in to......Homeplug network, (D-Link DHP-307AV/B 200 MBPS PowerLine Homeplugs) plugged in to a LAN port of......a spare adsl router configured as per here: Connecting Additional Routers | Tech Support Forum...with two desktop machines plugged into the LAN ports of the ADSL router. Both of the desktops have got similar specs, are equi-distant from the ADSL router, and are both connected using Ethernet, not wireless. One of them gets a 9MB/sec ADSL [URL]download, the other can't even bring the webpage up and times out if you ask Google to do a search.Taking out the adsl router and plugging the desktop straight into the homeplug gets a network speed of ~13MB/sec on [URL].Plugging a computer directly into the cable modem gives network speeds of ~40MB/sec on [URL] How can I improve on this, and have it so that both machines can access the Interwebnet at a decent bandwidth?

2x Asus RT-N66Us - How To Get Good Signal Strength From Next Door Router

Sep 12, 2012

A friend has 2 Asus RT-N66U's for the purpose of extending wifi range from her small companies shop to her house which is next door from each other.

from the house I can connect to the first router via wifi with a decent signal strength but what I need to do is backhaul from the other router via wifi and then have another wifi network in the house.

can this be done with just the 2 routers, or should I be looking for a cheap point to point setup and 2 separate routers?

New Homeplug / Powerline Says It Is Not Detected / When All Lights Are On

Jan 8, 2012

I have recently bought a homeplug to connect to the internet since my broadband is downstairs from my pc. I have plugged in the two homeplugs and connected them to my pc and broadband with a ethernet cable. When i turn on my pc the ethernet light turns on (same for downstairs) but after installing the software and trying to search for my wifi a message pops up saying "The homeplug adapter has NOT BEEN DETECTED. Please check your computer cables". So i did so, i chnaged the sockect moved the ethernet cable to a diffrent slot and still it says it has not been detected. This is very annoying and i really want to get it fixed.

HomePlug Devices Between Buildings / Data Speeds Are Limited To About 5 Mb?

Oct 27, 2011

I have two buildings on my property that I need to network together. One is my home about 3500 Sq. Ft. and the other is a garage about 3000 Sq. Ft. The two buildings are about 250 feet away from each other. Both are fed from the same utility pole that is half way between them. That means both are on the same transformer, but each has its own metered electrical service.Right now I am using 10 Mb. Home Phone Line network adapters. They work OK but data speeds are limited to about 5 Mb. of throughput and the adapters are no longer available. I also have WiFi at both locations but neither one will talk far enough to cover the other building.I also use X10 remote controls in my house. I have tested them from the house to the garage and they do not work at all over that distance

D-Link Powerline Homeplug 501AV / Configuring Two Router To Work?

Dec 6, 2012

I have the following network setup. I have a dynamic IP address from my ISP. I connect my fiber to a D-Link DIR-645 and set up my wireless network. The coverage is kind of poor in my son's room so I use a D-Link Powerline Homeplug 501AV to extend internet to my son's room. I connect one Homeplug to the DIR-645 and set the other Homeplug in the power outlet in my son's room. It works if I connect his PC or Xbox via an ethernet cable to the Homeplug in his room. Since he has both PC and XBox I have connected a D-LINK DIR-100 to the Homeplug and have two ethernet cables connecting to his PC and Xbox. Here is the problem. I don't get an internet connection to the DIR-100.How shall I configure the two routers to work?

Is Homeplug Networking Safe For A Knob-and-tube Electrical System

Sep 14, 2012

I have a beautiful old home but, the walls are thick and WiFi signal dies easily. Is a Homeplug system safe for my old home? I am hoping to convert our current upstairs router into an access point/repeater for the downstairs router via DD-WRT. The issue is that the upstairs WiFi is on the 3rd floor and the downstairs in on the 1st and I will not be stringing an Ethernet cable through the walls.

Connecting To Printer That Is On Another Network?

Jan 23, 2013

We have a Verizon T1 line providing internet for our backoffice network. On this network, we have 4 network printers that are shared between the facility. We recently opted to go with new web based software that neccesitates a high speed internet connection, and 12 wireless devices across the building. We signed a contract with Comcast Business Class internet, so that in the event of an external failure with one ISP, we would have the other offer redundancy with the new wireless router. It has now become clear that our nurses that are on the Comcast wireless network, now need to print from their wireless devices regularly. At the time this is obviously not possible, because the network printers are only on our backoffice network. Buying a wireless inkjet printer is out of the question. How can I make this happen? All of the printers have a local static IP on our backoffice network (Verizon). I have heard of software that will essentially send the print job to another computer, which would relay the print job to the designated printer.

Recognizing Network But Not Connecting?

Apr 25, 2011

Recently the home wireless network was upgraded to 802.11n with WPA2-PSK security. There are currently 3 laptops successfully connected and running the internet.

I have a desktop computer that recently had the NIC card upgraded because beforehand no connections were being recognised. Now there are connections being recognised but when I go to connect to the home network (Which has full signal) it begins to connect, it says "Waiting for Network" then after 2 or 3 minutes it just stops, no error message or anything. Ive also tried moving the tower closer to the router but this also does not work, it begins to connect to the network and then stops and says "Unable to connect to wireless network".

Another thing that might be of use, I am unable to access "ipconfig" in the terminal, I type "ipconfig" in run, then the terminal will pop up and close instantly.

Connecting Second Laptop To Wireless Network

Aug 13, 2011

connect my partner's laptop to my wireless network?

The router is a Sagem provided by my ISP (Sky). The wireless connection works fine on my MacBook, and various other devices connect no problem with the security key.

However, his laptop (Windows Vista) will not connect wirelessly. After entering the password, it says it can't connect because it 'times out' (we are obviously entering the password immediately with no delay). It connects fine with an ethernet cable. It will also connect to an unsecured wireless network we can pick up.

The security setup is WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption, and we've made sure he is using these settings.

If it might be important, he has just moved here, and previously his laptop was connected to another Sky router with no problems.

Connecting IP Address From Wireless Network?

Apr 6, 2011

trying to get an IP address from a public wireless network. I am trying to connect to the wireless network here and I get good signal, but it says, that my access has "Limited Connectivity". I then tried to see why my laptop could not access the system and ran "ipconfig/all" in the command prompt. I pasted the results below. I don't know a ton about computers and why my computer will not get a correct IP address (it sends back that the IP address is 169.254.44.160 as opposed to a 10.xxx.xxx.x that the network should be passing out).
