I was wondering if internet connection sharing was made impossible by Microsoft on netbooks even after an Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. This is because whenever I create an Ad-Hoc network on my netbook I am unable to turn on Internet Connection Sharing. Though my friend with a Toshiba notebook running Home Premium is able to turn on Internet Connection Sharing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt works then it stops seeing the homegroup machines. After struggling with this I have determined some things.
When it stops seeing any homegroup machines, xp, vista 64 and two dlink 323 nas boxes, I can get it working again by restoring the drive with a backup for a time when it did work.
I ran a lan software that showed me mac address, ip address, master brower and workgroup of every machine on the network. I ran the software when the Windows 7 home premium machine didn't see the workgroup. The software showed the windows home premium 64bit machine was not reporting the homegroup name. Looks to me like something is changing causing the win 7 home not to report the workgroup name. I tried changing the workgroup name, rebooting, changing it back then rebooting and it didnt' fix it.
When the machine is not seeing the workgroup I can ping the other machines but I can't map them using their IP addresses. When it lost the workgroup lately I noticed the first sign this time was I could see the machines and directories but could not access them being told I didn't have permissions/access basically. Can't remember the exact wording.
I am at a loss of what to do to fix this and I would perfer a fix verses reinstalling everything from scratch which may or may not perminately fix the problem.

I'm currently staying at a hotel. I can detect and connect to the network but no internet.
The way the internet at this hotel works is that it redirects you to a site to log in before gaining access.
It seems to work intermittently but very rarely. Requiring me to reset the connection multiple times. Problem is, my other devices work perfectly fine to connect.
I'm running Vista Home Premium X64 with latest updates. I'm also using a VPN for work. Hide My *** Pro v2.6.9.which worked just fine until this morning. My home internet connection is working normally though.My isp is Comcast. My Firewall is Comodo and I have tried using the VPN with and without the firewall running all to no avail.

I have found many well meaning suggestions to resolve this annoying aspect of networking between Windows 7, Vista and XP but it seems like we are all banging our heads against a brick wall. I have tried every suggestion I can find on other forums but still my Windows 7 computer cannot access my XP Home or Vista machines. The message I see each time I try is as follows:- "\WINXP (or \VISTA) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. The account is not authorised to log in from this station." You will of course appreciate that the 'administrator' is myself. I can access files and a printer on Windows 7 from the other two computers providing I place shared files in the public folder ... no problem with this.
I have checked that all three computers have the same Workgroup Name. Yes, I have got Network Discovery turned on. Yes, I have turned on file and printer sharing. Yes, I have turned off Password protected sharing (and tried it turned on). Yes, I have set my network location to Work network. Yes, the computers I am trying to access do show in my network window ... each and everyone of them can be pinged from each other. I even have a little utility called Wireless Network Watcher that shows that the IP addresses, MAC addresses and each computer by name can be seen on the network.
I have a laptop that is running windows 7 premium and a desk top that is running xp pro. The laptop is connected to the internet but the desktop is not. I have them set up in a ethernet network through an RJ-45, and both are connected, but I can't seem to share the laptop's internet connection with the desk top. All computers are hooked up by cable.I have tried a friends advice to plug in the exact IP address of the desktop (and vice versa on the netbook) but still the netbook cat find the desktop nor can the desktop find the netbook. When I followed previous advice by unchecking the IEEE 802.1x box, I received the "40 bit or 104 bit" warning box and upon checking found that the 802.1x box had automatically been rechecked. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP Laptop and an Windows 7 Starter Netbook. I have recently changed internet provider, returned the previous (Netgear) router and configured a new (D Link) router. Prior to the change of internet provider, both laptops could connect wirelessly without issues.After installing the new router provided by new internet provider, my Windows XP laptop can connect to the internet wirelessly without problems, the signal is strong and the speeds decent. My Windows 7 Netbook can connect to the network and to the internet, however, the speed on it is so low that pages do not load at all. Whilst it remains connected (the connection does not drop), it does not display web pages. Occasionally it displays a page or two, and it seems the problem is fixed, but this lasts no longer than a few minutes, after which it starts displaying "white" pages again. When the connection to the router is wired, the problem disappears and I can access the internet and the pages load well, so the problems is strictly a Wi Fi connectivity issue.
The Windows 7 Starter Netbook that has this problem at home, connects to every single other network I have had the chance to test it on (at work, at internet cafes, at my parents, at my sisters) and it also used to work flawlessly with my home network before I changed internet provider. On all other networks, it works really well.The new (D Link) router seems to work, otherwise my Windows XP laptop would also be having problems... but it doesn't.So both the new (D Link) router and my Windows 7 Starter Netbook work well separately. They just don't work together!I have tried a number of things: restarting the Netbook, restarting the router, re-installing Windows 7 Starter completely, disabling the network adapter and re-enabling it, updating the network driver, unprotecting the network completely, disabling Windows Firewall, disabling antivirus,changing the channels on the router, placing quartz crystals next to both devices and chanting. Below, I am pasting IP Config files showing the details of the settings in both devices (the one that works and the one that doesn't). As far as settings on the router is concerned, I have checked that they are the basic default ones that technical support are recommending.

I just got a new Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5357. It's running Windows 8. I can't get it to connect to my home wifi--it just says "Can't connect to this network" and nothing else. I did unplug and plug back in the router (does that count as resetting?) and it didn't change anything. I just went to the library and it connected to that wifi without a problem. While there I uninstalled all Norton security products and installed AVG Free 2013. Still not working.

I have a Toshiba portage and I am unable to connect to my wireless network at home. All my roommates can and two days ago I could! I haven't changed anything and none of my roommates or landlord has done anything. When I try to "diagnose" the problem I get the notice that there is a problem with the adapter. I have tried disabling everything and restarting it. The wireless switch is on. The security info is all correct and we have tried the restarting of the router.

This problem only occurs with my laptop (other laptops in the house are able to connect no problem) and with this particular wireless box (my laptop has no problems connecting and staying connected to other wireless networks, wi-fi, etc.).
I am able to connect to the wireless but it lasts only for a few minutes before connection is lost, so I basically have to connect to the internet through a ether cable (?) plugged into the wireless box.
I can't work out where the problem could be as the wireless works for other computers, and my computer works with other wireless networks!
