IP Is Stuck On Old Address / DNS Is Blank / Winsock Reset Command Not Found
Sep 6, 2011
Just got a machine from another company and I'm not allowed to re-image it but I need to get it on our network. I think its got some serious network configuration on it but don't know what.Windows 2000 SP 4 machineIP address/DNS are set to autoconfigure but the IP is stuck on an old address and the DNS is blank.Setting a fixed IP/DNS doesn't work.I can't ping anything successfully.DHCP Server is unreachableOther computers can successfully communicate with the router through the connected ethernet link.Computer has been restarted multiple times.netsh winsock reset results in winsock reset command not found.netsh int ip reset reset.log [code]
When a friend sends me an email with a link to click on when I click on ther link a blank page pops up with the words "404 not found". Why does this happen and is it a big problem. This problem just started to happen a few weeks ago. I never had a problem whenever a friend sent me an email with a link to click on.
We have an ASA 5540 failover bundle working in Active/Standby mode. On our active asa 5540 when the sh run command is issued it gets stuck and displays the output after more than 15-20 mins.. and it takes another 10-15 mins to get back to the prompt..
However on the standby asa 5540 if the sh run command is issued, it displays the ouput and comes back to the prompt (even though this also takes 2-3 seconds)
I have tried rebooting the active asa 5540.We are running asa version 8.2.2.
I have a new router. this seems to be a very simple problem relating to the most basic configuration options.
Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version : 1.01NA go to SETUP -> "NETWORK SETTINGS" change "Router IP Address" to 192.168.73.1 change "DHCP IP Address Range" to: 192.168.73.10 : 192.168.73.200
Save Changes Wait for reboot. change my client system's local IP address... so that I can reconnect. direct web browser to http://192.168.73.1/
seen: login page has a select-box for a userid, but no text inside. there is no prompt to ask me to login. I press enter (or whatever... I login). every form interface on all web pages looked at have no labels on text boxes.
I did a view source... and used web-dev tools to look at the page. it looks like the apparent js function, show_words(), is not defined.
change ip address and dhcp address range back to default save changes. wait for reboot. reverse changes to local system things are back to normal. login page has useful text. after logging in, there is something to read.
looking at source again. I see, now, that the js function "show_words" is defined in a file called public.js.
I upgraded my internet connection through charter and they shipped a new modem. Installed my new modem and my 300n will not connect to it. So in my attempts to figured things out I went it in and set it up as an access point only. I can access the internet on my desktop but there is no wireless signal in the house. Cannot connect to 192.168.2.1 now either. Tried the manual reset to factory defaults with no luck. At this point all I get is the small flashing blue light and the tall skinny light is not on at all.
since last nite my router E1200 has been having speed up and down problems.first it goes to 150mb/s then back down to 1 for a few minutes, usualy its stuck at 72mb/s which is a far cry from its rated 300mbps but qi'd rahter have that than 1-2mbps.i'd be happy with 150mbps but that only lasts 5mins then goes down to 1-2mbps and i have to reset my connection.
I have installed SSL VPN on my 1921 router and i can login with a user on the VPN page. However i cannot download the client because the package is not installed. This is what i get when i try to install the client. [code]
I have one 4506E switch working in Lan setup as a core switch with WS-X45-SUP6L-E running ipbase IOS 12.2(54)SG1. Each time after reload the switch we found that the clock is getting reset ( time is getting changed ) where as day, date & year is unchanged.
Recently during the power failure my PC shut down abruptly since since then it is not connecting to the network. I have a cable broadband internet, I am using Ethernet wired connection, Intel PRO/100 VE. The Ethernet jack is good as I have confirmed using my laptop. The network connection gets stuck in acquiring network address state. I tried restoring the system to earlier date but it fails to restore. I installed new Intel drives, deleted ethernet adapter from device manager, reinstalled TCP/IP but no luck.. I am using XP SP3 on P4 machine,
I was connected on wifi and all of a sudden I got disconnected and hasn't been able to connect since. This happened Sunday night and it's now Thursday. I got stuck on acquiring network address. I've been using the same wifi connection for about 7 months now and this never happened before.
All the other laptops at home (Mac and XP) could connect except me. I tried to google over my phone but still wasn't able to fix it.
This is what the ipconfig says: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
i recently bought a dell mini laptop and i am already encountering problems with my wireless. i am on the laptop now, but i connected it via ethernet, and that is apparently working. whenever i hit repair it gets stuck at acquiring ip address.
I'm running a Windows XP Dell laptop. A few days ago I completely reformatted the computer because it was just starting to run slow. I reinstalled Windows from the factory CD and downloaded the latest drivers from Dell's website. Now suddenly, after the reformat, my network connection gets stuck on "Acquiring network address." Running ipconfig shows either 0.0.0.0 or a blank space for each field.Other laptops in the house work fine.I did discover that I can get it to say "Connected" if I go into the advanced settings and manually enter an IP address and use the subnet and gateway from my desktop's ipconfig results. The problem is that I can't actually get on the internet. It just says it's "connected."
My Dell was running very slow, so I used the disks that came with the computer to reinstall Windows XP. After doing this, it wasn't detecting our wireless network. I went through on the drivers disk and installed the drivers in order according to Dell's specifications. It still wouldn't work, so I went to the dell website from another computer, and downloaded the drivers that pertained to the network. Now it is recognizing the network, I was able to enter my key, but it won't stop "acquiring network address". When I do the ipconfig /all, it looks like there is no IP address:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:Documents and SettingsUser>ipconfig /all
My computer was recently cured of a damaged processor and a viral infestation, and it seems to be working properly again, however,I've been unable to connect to my network because the connection gets stuck on "acquiring network address".I am running Windows XP service pack 3 and the network device that isn't connecting is a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC.
I received a message stating: Info-error attempting to validate the winsock base providers:2 Error- Not all base service provider entries could be found in winsock catalog. A reset is needed. Info- Redirecting user to support call I did the reset in command prompt as I read you told other people with this problem to do. But I still keep getting these messages. This is my sister's Dell Latitude 620.I used AVG and I think pc is clean. When I try to connect to a website page states that Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
I connect to the internet using a wireless USB. I woke up this morning and the internet showed that it was connected yet it wouldn't allow me to open the web or anything such as "msngr" I took the wireless card out for a couple minutes and then tried. That didnt do anything but say acquiring network address. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to computers but these are the things that I have tried so far :
I went into properties and configure USB . . Made sure that the SSID said "Any" I Also tried going into properties and tcp/IP internet protocol and made sure it was on obtain IP address automatically . Hmm I tried. RUN>SERVICES> to make sure that the DHCP and TCP were started and on Automatic. I then tried system restore :- (went back about 2 weeks) . . Nothing. I then tried RUN>CMD>IPCONFIG/RELEASE *ENTER* IPCONFIG/RENEW *ENTER*.
when I did that it showed wireless network is now connected, yet back to ground zero. It wont let me browse. Its not really connected. When I look at the connection status, signal strenghth is good. Packets sent & received are good. I feel like there is just something little that. I am not getting, that is making this happen.
For the past week I've had a problem browsing the internet. Now, at first, this only happened starting at around 3 am central time and ending at about 6 am when I could browse the internet properly. As the days went forth, however, it began happening earlier at around 12 am. What would happen is this: would be on the internet browsing sites and whatnot. All of a sudden (As I'm loading a new page) I would get the "Address not found" error as if I'm not connected to the internet. I could try to reload any other page on my session, but sometimes it would halfway load (ei:not loading pictures, ect.) and other times I would get Address not found. This would go for about a 4 hour time period. After that, everything would be back to normal and I could go back on my session.
Now, I'm on my laptop via a router that is in my house. We also have a desktop computer, but I noticed this problem happening on my laptop first. When it first happened, it was only on my laptop. I had internet connection and could browse it endlessly on my desktop. As the days went on, however, my desktop started having the same problem connecting to the internet (I still noticed the problem on my laptop first and then I would go see if the desktop had it too). When this first happened, I was thinking my laptop wasn't connecting to my router. Instinctively, I reset the router to no avail. I also opened up IE (I don't use it much because it's just too slow) and tried to diagnose the problem using that. When I did this, it was giving me DNS as the problem of me not connecting to the internet. I am not a network admin so I don't know that much about DNS. I also used IE to diagnose the problem on the following days, but after the first time it only gave me a "You aren't connected to the internet" solution. Since then, I've been running a barrage of anti virus, rootkit, ect. just because I can and I haven't done it in a long time. I didn't find anything unusual in all the reports so I'm still not sure what the problem is.
i have a dell inspiron mini 10 and i put windows xp pro sp2 on it and got all the neccesary drivers for it the problem with it is that it detects my router and everything but when it tries to connect it gets "stuck" on aquiring network adress i tried the winsock fix and everything but nothing seems to work
suddenly all of my browsers stoped working, with mozzila it happens nothing at all, even don't show this page cannot be displayed thing, google chrome show that kind of message, while internet explorer suggest testing conectivity and shows message that problem is winsock provider catalog.
I've run in to this on 3750G's in a various sized stacks. We apply port security for a mac address on a single port (not existing on more than one port - that's a different issue that appears in multiple posts already). In this case:
1) We do a 'sho mac address-table and see that the device with the mac address in question lives on one port, port 1/0/x.
2) We apply mac port security for this exact same mac address to the same port it is already attached to. switch(config)#int g2/0/2 switch(config-if)#switchport port-security mac-address 001a.1ec8.abcd
3) Get this error: 'Found duplicate mac-address 001a.1ec8.abcd'.We again confirm that that is the only port on the entire switch that has this mac-address.Try the command again, same error.
4) We do a bunch of show commands, get in and out of the switch, go back and then try it again, and now it works, same command, same port and same mac address.
-Aging is default 300 -These are Cisco wireless AP's attached to the switch -This occurs on different switches with different ports using different mac addresses, always same symptoms.
My PS3 recently got stolen. I was informed that the detective assigned to my case can contact Sony with the serial# and MAC address to track it down.I realize that there is this way:" If all you have is the serial number SCEA would need the MAC address, and only SCEJ has the "master list" of serial number to MAC address comparison. All SCEA would need from your local PD is an affidavit request / warrant (whatever their specific agency prefers to use or call them) asking SCEA to acquire said information."However, I also realize that I can find my MAC address through command prompt on my windows. However, there are more than one MAC addresses (or physical address as referred on the command prompt). My Question is, how do I know which one is the same as my PS3 MAC address? There are these choices:
Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection 2: Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection 2: Ethernet adapter Local Area connection Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection
A few days ago the internet on my desktop was working fine. now it has the 'limited or no connectivity' sign on it and i have done a few things to try and fix this. I started by trying a simple repair. it comes up with 'the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address' This lead me to try and restart my PC and router with no luck.
I then decided to look a bit further into it and went ito CMD and flushed the DNS. i then did 'ipconfig /release' which generated the response 'IP address for adapter wireless connection 9 has allready been released'. I then did 'ipconfig /renew' to which it generated an interestin response:
'An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection 9 : The RPC server is unavailable'
I have made sure my DNS client is on automatic, alont with my RPC (this was uneditable). Its not a router problem as i have had multiple devices connected before and my laptop is working just fine connecting wirelessly.
I started my PC (aser) as usuao but did not connect to internet that i am using TP Link modem/router, I turned laptop on and get conected the wireless is working fine, serached about TP links solutions and applied all of them, before I was using "obtain IP automatically" then I used to insert the required IPs manually, applied and save and restarted several times... still cannot connect to the internet while I still connected to the same modem+router via laptop wireless connection,
Finally I decided to format and installed new OS XP, though some wrong error was with my OS, unfortunately even after installing new OS still not able to connect, I checked the IP and tried both options and still cant access, i never experienced such..
how to reset IP address for Win 7 and it takes you to a XP dialog box...my problem is when I try to connect wirelessly I get the old ''Limited Access'' and not connected in the status box. And the wireless connection utility shows my old IP address as autoconfigured to IPv4 169.xxx.xx whereas it should be 192.xxx.xxx.x the 169 number was for a connection I had security on but that company went out of business and now I have an Alfa usb hi-gain antenna that picks up my work place that I can share a connection to but it keeps going back to my old IP address and when I go to the star>control panel>internet connection> connections tab all I have is the LAN. At this point I am having to use a Virgin Mobile usb dongle to go on line and it is as about as good as dial-up slow as Christmas in August...and would like to connect to the linksys at work which I show 4-5 bars in signal strength...
I have a stack of 3750's running IOS 12.2(25). "IP forward-protocal" command is configured, but the IP helper command is just not an option to put on an interface. Any have any idea of why that could be?
I wanted to reset my IP address, so I called my cable internet service provider and they walked me through the process. I unplugged the ethernet cable from my router and connected my computer directly to my modem. Then, I unplugged the coax cable from my modem, plugged in back in again, and within Windows did ipconfig/renew in the command prompt. This successfully changed my IP address.
Then, I ran my wires back into the router again (instead of plugging the computer directly into the modem). To my surprise, the old IP address was back again! So, I went into linksys 192.168.1.1 screen to release the IP address and started the process over again.
I got a new IP address once again, but now the Linksys router can't seem to figure out the new IP address so nothing works going through the router.
