Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG54G2 - Bonjour Networking Stops Working After Few Minutes / Hours
Oct 21, 2010
Running Firmware v. 1.00.19 here, which I reckon is the most recent version.
My network consists of two Macbooks, an iMac and two iPhones. It utilizes WAP2 encryption and all devices are well within range, the environment being free of interferences from any other WiFi signals (this is a rural area).
My problem: Bonjour networking stops working after a few minutes or hours. When the problem appears, WIRED devices can see all other peers in the network (both wired and wireless), but WIRELESS devices cannot see any other peers whatsoever (wired or wireless).
I have heard that this could be because of a faulty implementation of uPNP by Linksys, and in particular a problem with multicast filtering (and unfortunately the modem/router's firmware does not provide any relevant settings). But I am not sure.
I purchased this thing with the express purpose to use it on a Mac-only network, and I am thoroughly disappointed to see that it does not work, especially since UPNP is supposed to be supported.

I have a WAG54G2 working fine for more than 2 years now. It has the initial firmware version 1.00.10
Recently I mode it from my home to my store, where I have a already working CCTV setup. Initially the router did not work, but once the service provider removed the mac-id binding (with my previous ADSL2+ router) the WAG54G2 was connecting on DSL. However it never got a DNS value. Currently I am using it with a fixed DNS.
After a few days of working I noticed that my remote viewing for the CCTV was not working. On checking the router settings I saw that the router had defaulted to no settings at all. Changing it back to PPPoE did not work since the page would not render completely. Resetting to Factory settings also did not work. However simply switching off the router and restarting it worked. I let it go then. The same thing happened again within a day or two. Each time restarted the router seemed to solve the problem, however temporarily.
I have the SPI firewall enabled also I have application port forwarding set for HTML port 80 forwarding to say port 1234.

I just purchased a WAG54G2, setup was simple and easy. After being on for about 16 hours if I login to the device all the settings appear to have been reset to default, although the access point and wireless are still working. After another few hours the internet access stops and device appears to have been reset. No power spikes or reliability problems with power. Contacted Linksys support on three different occasions and they don't have any suggestions that work. Tried a "hard reset" but problem still occurs. No firmware upgrades are available for this device.

I have a Cisco Linksys E1000 wireless router. It has been working perfectly for the last few months until yesterday when I noticed none of my wireless devices could connect. The SSID was still being broadcast and my computers that were connected through an ethernet cable were still able to access the internet fine. Eventually I pressed the red reset button on the back of the router, which reset my router name, password, etc. I set everything back up and was able to connect again. Several hours later the wireless stopped working again. When I launched the Cisco Connect software I was prompted to update some software (possibly the router firmware) so I did that. After that I was able to connect to wireless again. This morning I woke up and wireless was not working again. This time I changed the password for the router and then I was able to connect to wireless again. I tried to change the router password back to the original password and I couldn't connect anymore. When I changed the router password back to the new password I could connect again.

I'm having is that every few hours my TCP/IP protocol stops working. The modem lights remain normal but I can't connect to anything. The only thing that works on the internet is traceroutes at the command prompt which function normally. The solution is that I have to reboot and then everything returns to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. There are no error messages on any of my browsers. The page just goes white immediately. When I try to retrieve my email, I get a message about the TCP/IP isn't working.

My internet (wired and wireless) usually works fine, but occasionally (read: every few days to weeks) the connection will suddenly black out for a period of time, anywhere from an hour to a day. I have tried resetting both my router and modem, and going through all the settings on my laptop, but I'm pretty sure it's not my computer, as no other devices can connect either. During the blackouts, when I look at the modem, the internet light will turn on for a second, then go off and then the red "alarm" light (aka "something is wrong" light) starts blinking like crazy, and this keeps repeating. This resolves itself after anywhere from a few hours to a whole day and everything is normal again. The light show, and the fact that I can't find any other problems, leads me to believe that it could be a problem with my provider (or the network itself) and not a hardware or software problem, but I can't be sure of this. Also, during the blackouts, I can connect to the network, but it shows that limited connectivity symbol (exclamation mark thing) and says no internet.

My D-Link DIR-655 will no longer let me pull up any web pages after several hours. For example, it works great when first rebooted, but the next morning web pages have timed out. When it is broken, I'm unable to connect to web pages via another wireless access point that i've plugged into the D-Link. I'm unable to use any of the wireless PCs or devices in my house. After it's rebooted, it works well for at least a few hours. It has the latest firmware and has basic, out of the box settings.

The Port 80 port fowarding stops functioning after a few hours and requires the router to be rebooted to start forwarding again. The firmeware is the latest 1.0.04 Build 7. I require it to operate reliably for many days without intervention. I assume that it is a port forwarding problem because I can access the IP on my network from within my network even when I can't access it from outside my network. I am using the correct IP addresses as it sometimes works OK. A characteristic is that when I can't access the page it loads as completely blank white with no error message.

I have a WAG54G2 annex b and have a problem with the settings. The problem keeps emerging although I upgraded the firmware from 1.10 to 1.17.In details, almost once every day it keeps losing the settings, and although is is connected (I can browse web pages) the internet light is off, and in the admin page I can't see any settings at all. The language settings are lost, the wireless seems to be enabled, the connection settings don't show up, I can't see username/password/ip/dns and all my security restriciotns are lost. And i can't restore them until i reboot the modem, in which case everything is back like nothing has happened.

I need to use VPN from home to connect to my company. Company IT say that they can see my connection is successful but from home end it appears to fail (timeout). I'm using a CISCO WAG54G2 router. After attempting VPN access I have to re-boot router to establish broadband connection. I have checked Plusnet (ISP) firewall settings as okay (LOW). I have found two CISCO links which describe a similar(?) issue:
[URL]
I reviewed my router's Single Port Forwarding parameter settings in light of info in these links. I then added three new ones: VPN, VPN1, and VPN2 VPN; Internal Port:500; External Port 500; Protocol:UDP; IP:192.168.1.47; Enabled Yes VPN1; Internal Port:4500; External Port 4500; Protocol:UDP; IP:192.168.1.50; Enabled Yes VPN2; Internal Port:10000; External Port 10000; Protocol:UDP; IP:192.168.1.51; Enabled Yes
These changes have not worked but I not yet removed them. My company uses 'Delta VPN' product. No other changes to parameters have been made before or after.

I happened to update firmware version of my WAG54G2 to the latest version 1.xx.xx.19. Since then connection to internet has became erratic. If rebooted, the device mostly doesn't connect. Switching to PPPoE from PPPoA and vice versa works but i have to do it every time the device is rebooted. Sometimes even that doesn't work. Basically it acts random. DSL connection shows as connected, but the internet interface is mostly down. I was wondering if i can switch back to to old 1.xx.xx.10 version. It never gave me any trouble ever for around 2 years.

I also would like to what hardware should I use to get a 108mbps over my network because 54mbps is just too slow. I used windows 7 and mozilla to do my frimware upgrade and it failed.

My problem is this: Randomly, the DIR-825 will prohibit streaming to my AirPort Express via AirTunes. It'll also disappear from Bonjour Browser and AirPort Utility. I can connect directly to it, if I enter the IP into the AirPort utility directly. The only way to get it to come back is to either reboot the DIR-825, reboot the AE, or unplug the ethernet to the AE.

I'm facing a strange problem here with my WAG54G2 gateway. I've got a very bad connection when the signal strength is 2 out of 5 or less. I tested the DL and UL speed via url...and gives me hardly 1 Mb/s even though I have 10Mb ADSL connection. With wired and wireless connection with 3 out of 5 or more I got 8.7 Mb DL from the mentioned website.

My internet connection seems to drop a lot, I'm using a WAG54G2 modem connecting via a wired connection; and my ISP is Iprimus and I'm running off an Adsl2+ connection. The light on the modem that goes out when I lose connection is usually the internet although sometimes it is the DSL light, when my connection drops out I also seem to lose speed when I reconnect, which I was able to fix by pulling the power plug out and putting it back in but it no longer works as often.
The top speed I have measured via 9url]... has been 350 kb/s and the lowest has been 12 kb/s.My phone line also has a loud crackly sound which goes away when I unplug my modem from the line.I used to be able to unplug my phone line to keep the connection up but that no longer works.
This problem is not consistent as I will have days when it is bad (slow connection speed and constant connection dropping) and days when it is alright (decent connection speed and hardly or no connection dropping).I am also running a few filters for my phone, I've tried taking the filters out but that doesn't fix it, I've tried unplugging the phone which used to work as I mentioned before but no longer does. Before I bought this modem I can't remember what I was using but that had history with locking out the connection which by replacing the modem fixed my bad connection for a 5-7 months.

I've been using the WAG54G2 for some time now, recently I set up a range extender and had some issues so one thing I tried was to upgrade the firmware. It was very unclear on this website where to find it (specifically for the G2). I went here but there were 2 files, Annex A or B? [irl].... The instructions are also very unclear on this. But more frustratingly the zip file just contains an ".img" file - no ".bin" as the instructions say. So i tried the manual firmware upgrade using this file and shortly after the message "...whatever you do - do not close the browser or restart the router during the upgrade..." (or similar) the router crashed, so I had to restart it and the browser. Now I think I may have introduced an error as the once perfectly-performing router occasionally drops the internet connection for a few minutes. With my work I need 100% uptime.
