Linksys E1000 - Wireless Speed Drops To Nothing When Main PC Is Off With Great Signal
Jun 22, 2012
I have a Linksys E1000 running on the latest firmware available from the Cisco website. When my main PC (Windows 7 64Bit SP1) which is connected with a ethernet cable is running the wireless speed is great for all my connected devices. (Android/Apple phones, tablets, family PC, etc). But when I shut down my main PC the wireless speed drops to the point where it can take 3-5 mins for google.com to load up. The wireless connection is still showing as strong, just the speed isn't there anymore. If I were to turn my PC back on, everything will load up almost instantly and be back to normal. I've tried reinstalling the router, resetting it all back to default settings and re configuring it but I've had no luck in solving this.

I purchased a new router - cisco e1000. Currently, i have 2 laptops wirelessly connected to this router. When i do a broadband speed test, the speed drops down significantly to 8MBPS while if i connect it to the cable modem directly (wired) i.e., without router, i'm getting 15 MBPS download speed. I did a couple of times this speed check and the results are same. I tried changing the advanced settings in the router (which was specified in one of the post in this forum) but no luck. Is it that i need to buy e4200 to match the wired speed of 15 MBPS or what other things I can do to get the same speed of my cable modem (provided by my ISP)?

My router was unpluged twice and then when I plugged it in the third time my laptop won't connect the the wireless network. I could see the network with great signal on the connection list, but when I tried connect to it, it said: "Windows was unable to connect to XXX. " (btw my laptop's operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit) so I tried to troubleshoot problems. and here are the detection details:Details about network adapter diagnosis: Network adapter Wireless Network Connection driver information:

I got my Brand new xps 15 yesterday, It works fine, looks great, I'm overall satisfied with it. (even though it gets warm all the time)
Problem is, the WIFI doesn't work well at all, I'm 2 meters from my box right now, And I'm not experiencing any problems, but as soon as I get upstairs in my bedroom, my signal speed drops significantly, I can't even load a you tube video, I was downloading a game from steam yesterday, and the dl speed dropped to 6mb/s!! That's awful, If this problem can't be fixed, I'll be returning mine, and won't buy any other Dell product, I don't see how a laptop that pricey can have that kind of problems. ( because I heard I wasn't the only one, a lot of people have the same problem).

I recently bought a refurbished E1000 wireless router from Amazon, and from the first day I've had recurring connection issues with it. Every half hour or so it will lose all of its connections (wireless and ethernet) and requires a hard reset. After resetting, all connections are good for a little while but then the problem occurs again. When plugged directly into my modem (Motorola SB6121), my internet access is completely fine.
The router has the latest firmware as far as I know (2.1.02 build 5 May 6, 2011), and I've tried to change several settings (MTU to 1400, Fragmentation Threshold to 2306, etc) but to no avail.

Got a new e1000 after a RMA. The new unit has a very weak wifi signal. I've tried all different channels. It is running in mixed mode. No microwave, blue-tooth or other noise. 4 feet from the router and the signal is down to -90db. Take a few more steps away and the connection is lost.

We have a new e1000 router that was having trouble reaching the TV for Netflix movie streaming. Too many walls and too much distance. A simple solution was to direct the signals from the router by placing aluminum foil behind the router so all the signal was going towards the TV rather than in an 360 degree circle. Now the streaming works great! After the movie is done I remove the foil and everything looks just like it should.

I've been experiencing a strange, repeatable behavior with my Linksys E1000. I have several wireless and wired devices connected to my E1000:
Wired: TivoHD, Sony BluRay Player, Sony TV, Windows XP Wireless: Lenovo Laptop (Windows 7), HP Laptop (Windows 7), 3 iPods, 2 iPhones
When I try to copy large files (~ 4GB) from my (wired) Windows XP box to either of my (wireless) laptops, the Linksys drops my WiFi network -- but the wired connections continue to work (including internet access). Copying the same/similar file from a WiFi device to a wired device appears to work correctly, as does copying from WiFi to WiFi.
To be clear, my WiFi network "disappears" -- it is no longer listed as an available network (as opposed to just dropping internet connectivity for WiFi). Unplugging the router and plugging it back in brings my WiFi network back up.
I have been able to repeat this issue with multiple files over the course of several weeks, and it happens about 75% of the time (i.e., I am occassionally able to complete a file copy from wired LAN to WiFi).
A little bit of background: I resurrected an old Windows XP box and am using it for shared network storage. I copied about 400 GB of files from my laptops to the XP box (WiFi to wired) with no issues at all. Pulling the same files back from XP to my laptops (wired to WiFi) has been causing the issue described above.

I have a Linksys E1000 router. The macbook is getting great signal even out in the yard. The PC running Windows 7 and using an AE1000 wireless adapter is only getting 2 bars out of 5. I don't think there's any interference. I can't figure out why the signal strength is so poor.

My WRT120N drops signal to Laptop occasionally and I do not understand why. I tried to update the firmware, version 1.0 to 1.0.04, is that a newer version? My next step is to try to update the drivers in the laptop. The dropped signal seems random and only happens with the laptop. Other devices connected work fine.

I have a Cisco E1000 v2. I updated to the latest Firmware 05/25/2011Ver.2.1.02 (Build 5).
Before doing this update I did get 300mbps N speeds. Now I don’t using the same settings, it max out at 144mbps speed. Also the router only seems to get B speeds when using a channel other than 11. I did do a hard reset after the firmware update.

Router: E2000 (N-only)
OS: Windows 7 X64
When I'm not connected to my wireless network, the signal strength is 4 bars (out of 5)Once connected, it drops to 2 bars. Speed is 39 Mbps. Why?I have updated the drivers (strangly, it says the drivers are from Ralink Technology. Corp, version 3.00.00.0041 built by: WinDDK)

I'm having an issue with my laptop. Although, from my provider, it should be possible to establish a connection at 25'000 kbit/s (download), max speed is at about 800 kbit/s. I'm only about 20 feet away from where the router is located and I don't use any phones (except for a cell phone). I read on this board, that I might have to change the wireless settings on the router and change the radio band but didn't manage to do so. I'm using Mac osx and a wireless connection.

I recently installed a Cisco X2000. Several PCs running Windows XP Pro connect wirelessly. Also, we have an Android device and iPhone connected to the wireless network. We have a network printer and network drive connected via wires to the router. Most of the time the router and cable modem features work well. However, every so often all devices lose wireless signal simultaneously. It is not possible to reconnect to the X2000 unless I unplug the X2000 and plug it back in. After this reboot, we can connect again. Obviously, this is quite frustrating. By the way, we get acceptable signal strength after the X2000 locks out however none of the devices (computers or phones) are able to connect.

I just "upgraded" from an E1000 to an E1200 wireless router. I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router. My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model. After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps. Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem. Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings. All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.

We recently purchased a Linksys E3200 router, because our old router didn't take advantage of our internet speed. The router works fine, though the internet speeds again isn't as much as expected.
With a wired connection, we only get 80 Mbit/s of our full 120 Mbit/s, according to Speedtest.net. The Cisco Connect built-in speed test is even worse; only 40 Mbit/s. When we directly plug the computer into the modem, we get the full 120 Mbit/s, which indicates that the modem does have the connection speed. The router just doesn't give it to the computers attached.
I don't know about my wireless speed, as my wireless card in the laptop clearly is the bottleneck (it can only connect at 65 Mbit/s). Atheros AR9285 ftw.
We tried different cables, the one included with the router gives the same speed.

Got a Linksys E3200, and a gigabit card, even two, Realtec and Intel, have a connection ggbit. If the power cord plug directly into netcard, all at great, the tracker up to 80 MB per second, shakes on speedtest.net, shows 780 240 + Mbps. When i connect my inet through the router, the speed drops to 12 MB(100 Mbit) and speedtest the same, but in the the web interface in the statistics shows that everything is connected to a gigabit.
Plus, when I ping my ISP's website (ip -t ) and assume [URL] click on the test, the router with 1ms pings are beginning to rise to 30 ms, and when it is directly in netcard, it stable 1ms.... When through the router, torrent shake it just do up to 100ms jumps. I have all the settings , and set up his hands, and a manager, all for nothing. It started five days ago, before that everything was ok. Can a router burn? Rather it gigabit controller?

I am having a problem with my newly purchased Linksys E1000 router, I am having terribly slow network speeds while on that network.
Here are my network speeds with The e1000: (wireless) And here are the speeds with my old wrt54g: (Wireless) Here are the results directly hooked up to the modem: (wired)
I've tried setting the MTU to 1500, did a RMA with Linksys to see if it was a hardware problem, did a firmware update to the e1000, disabled DHCP and SPI, reseted my router and my modem....none of those things have worked
My ISP is comcast and I have a Arris TM502G modem

I'm running a Cisco E4200V2 router with the latest firmware (2.1.4.12284) on an iMac running OS X 10.8. My ISP is providing 15Mbps to my modem, which I've confirmed by connecting directly to it without the router. Once I put the router back in the path, my broadband speed drops to about 6 Mbps. Is this the best I can expect from this router?

Bought the new EA4500 a couple of days ago and have looked at my wireless connection and see it varies from 72Mbps to 144Mbps. It has jumped up to 270Mbps a few times, but rarely. Shouldn't it be 300Mbps most of the time? My laptop is 4 feet away from the router and the router is on top of a card board box being elevated away from interference. The prior router was a dlink 855 that went whacky after 3 years. I believe I was usually at 270 Mbps with that. What gives? Do I have a faulty router? With this new router, I expected the range to be a lot farther and faster too, but it is not in my family room. 2nd floor router, family room is 1st floor about 50 feet away and I get 1Mbps - 5Mbps. Everything is set to Auto on router and IP6 is disabled on laptop.

I have four E4200's doing the same. I have FiOS 15M download and 5M upload. As soon as QoS is turned on the upload speed drops down to usually 300k and it never exceeds 1M.At the same time any VPN connection gets dropped often.I also configured one E4200v1 as router and the second E4200v1 as Access Point (HDCP off) hardwired to the first one.Any VPN connection gets dropped when changing location. I.e. if VPN was established with the router, the connection gets dropped when in the location where AP is -- and the other way around too. There is no coverage gap between the two locations, to the contrary - they do overlap heavily. On Dec 21, 2011 the level 2 Linksys/Cisco people advised that they will forward the two issues to engineering and that resolution will be within 24-48 hours.

My problem occurs when i am trying to download something big, mainly the speed of the download raises at a peak and then it drops disconnecting me from the internet for a few seconds. This only happens when my laptop is on a wireless connection and this phenomenon repeats itself untill the download is complete. During the connection crash I am not able to access any site.
My laptop is an Asus G series with Win7 64bit SP1, and I use utorrent for P2P downloads.

I have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.
The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.

I have been spending days !!! trying to resolve why my laptop pc disconnects frequently from its wireless connection. No discernable pattern to disconnects, totally random. Happens in cycles of disconnect/auto reconnect or will go hours of stable operation. What I have noticed is tht the connection speed seems to vary, from a hig of 54.0 Mbps to as low as 2.0 Nbps. At same time the desktop pc (hard wired to modem) stays connected at 100 Mbps.Using RCA modem, WRT160n v3 router.

I have a DIR-825 in my basement at one end of the house and it works great. My problem is the signal strength is a little weak on the main floor at the other end of the house. I would like to add a second access point to cover that end of the house. Do I need to get another DIR-825 and wire it to the original or is there another option? I obviously don't need all the features of the DIR-825 for the 2nd AP, but I cant find a less expensive option that will still allow me to use both bands.

Networking isn't my strongest computer subject area, but I know I'm having a performance problem with my RV082 router. When I direct connect my PC to my cable modem, I can get very near the 7mb/sec rate advertised by my ISP. When I connect the modem to this router, then connect to the pc to the router, the speed drops to between 2-3mb/sec. All tests performed several time using dslreport.com speed test website. The result is very repeatable, so I figure it has to be some delay introduced by the router. I can't see to find any place in the router configuration to do performance tuning. I'm not using any firewall rules except for the default rules. Why I'm seeing a greater than 50% decrease in internet throughput using this router?

When I again restart the router the speed seems great for few mins but again drops after sometime. It happens in both LAN and wireless mode. The firmware version of the router is 1.00.16
I was going through the problems posted by some other user but observed that cisco people are not heraing to them.Seems made a mistake by associating with cisco product. This is the worst router I have ever used. The wireless also gets disconnected abruptly.Next time I'll avoid cisco.Cisco is all about stone age products and zero customer care.
