Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Could No Longer Connect To Internet

Jan 11, 2011

I upgraded the firmware on my BEFS41 v4.3 to the Ver.2.00.4 Build 8, off the cisco website. After I received the successfully upgraded message, I could no longer connect to the internet, nor could I connect to the router's configuration page. I tried to do a few hard resets and connecting it to other computers to see any other computers could connect to it, no luck. I tried connecting one computer just to the router, without the internet plugged in, and tried to ping 192.168.1.1 but I received a "transmit failed, error code 1231." Is there anyway I can access this and change the firmware, or am I screwed?

Linksys Wired Router :: Q1000 / BEFSR41- How To Connect Both Modems

Nov 9, 2009

I'm on a Mac running OSX.  Qwest (my ISP) recently swapped my DSL modem for an Actiontec Q1000 combo modem/router.  The Q1000 firewall is not nearly as configurable as my Linksys BEFSR41 (v3) router.  I'd like to use the Q1000 just as a modem and use my Linksys as my router so I can access it's superior firewall configuration.

How do I physically hook the hardware up?

How do I configure the 2 items.  The Q1000 uses 192.168.0.1 as it's web address.  The Linksys uses 192.168.1.1.  I have 2 Macs on my network, an iMac (OS 10.5.8) and a G4 (10.3.9).

Besides web browsing & email, I also have a torrent client I use (Azureus).

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Can't Connect To Any Hosts On WAN Side

Mar 3, 2012

I have a BEFSR41 (wired) router. On the LAN side, I'm using all static IPs, and have the local DHCP server turned off.  On the WAN side, I'm using DHCP. When I plug my laptop (which runs Windows 7, and has a static IP set up) into the router, sometimes I can't connect to any hosts on the WAN side, even though other machines on the LAN side can connect to hosts outside.  If I run Wireshark, I see the following happening over and over. [code] When this occurs, the laptop can nevertheless connect to the embedded web server running on the router, and, there, I can tell the router to release and renew its WAN-side DHCP lease.

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 V2 Will Not Access Internet?

Sep 12, 2011

I have a BEFSR41 V2 router connected to a westell c90 modem and my provider is Bellsouth.net (AT&T). I have the modem set to PPPoE and DHCP enabled. I am using the router as a gateway. The router's status page indicates that is communicating with the modem. Release and renew works and I can detect the addresses of the modem. I just can't pull up websites. I am wondering if this router (12 years old) is not compatable with the service.

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Setting Options Which Can Allow To Connect To Xbox

May 8, 2011

I have been having some issues connecting my PC to my XBox360 using the wired approach, it seems to be massively temperamental to a point i decided to not connect the XBox via my router and instead put it straight into my spare network port on my PC. The basic jist of mynetwork confirguration is something like this: Internet cable > Virgin Media 256 Modem > Linksys BEFSR41 Router > PC. I had no issues with this setup, but as soon as i wanted to add my XBox into the mix, things got tricky. I plugged the network cable from my Xbox originally into one of the ports on my router and then went through the settings on both my Xbox and router. Again, i had absolutely no confidence in doing this myself since i don't mess with it, but after reading guides i finally got it sorted. Well, partly sorted. I was able to connect to my Xbox Live, however i was unable to connect to my Xbox to my PC (To stream files onto the Xbox). This was what i wanted to do, i didn't really want to use the Live anyway. So i went off to work again. In the end nothing was working, so i opted to connect my Xbox directly into my PC - So it was no longer connected through my router. I could SEE my PC on my Xbox, but i was unable to connect to it to stream anything. I then opted to disconnect my router (For no other reason than to rule it out) - Sure enough, the very second i disconnected the router, i was able to instantly connect to my PC and was streaming straight away. Once i was streaming, i was able to reconnect my router and that was that. But if i turned off my Xbox i would need to also turn off my router the next time i wanted to stream. How can i fix this so i don't have to continually turn off my router, is there a setting somewhere in the options on my router which can allow me to connect to my Xbox? Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Disconnected From Internet While Allowing UPNP

Oct 29, 2011

I have a Linksys router (model BEFSR41) and I all the outputs going to two computers and two gaming systems (X360 and PS3). I have had the router for over a year and it works fine, but I recently decided to attempt to have my 360 access the media on my computer by linking the two together through the Media Center. To do this, I needed to enable my router to allow UPnP (according to Microsoft help). When I did enable this, the router would disconnect me every 2-5 seconds from the internet, then would reconnect me right away.I have no clue why it was doing this (it occured across all of my devices) so I just disabled UPnP and things went back to normal. How to fix this so that I can have a consistent and stable connection when I have UPnP enabled?

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 V4.3 Latest Firmware - Frequent Internet Drops?

Also, we have cable modem. Plugging in directly to cable modem works fine.I am an experienced network admin, so refrain from the usual reset / try again response. Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 V2.1 Can't Connect To Router?

Feb 15, 2013

I have a BEFSR41 v2.1 wired router which was put aside when replaced with a wireless router. Today I wanted to hook it up and use it again, however my computer was not automatically assigned a connection, and I didn't remember how I last had it set up, so I simply reset the router and tried again.

Since the reset, I have not been able to get a connection to the router from any computer using any port or any cable. The LED lights for ports 1-4 do not light up, and setting a static IP address still does not permit me to connect or even ping the router.

The LEDs light up as normal and go through the patterns during the boot-up process. Once that is finished, all LEDs are off apart from the power light (which is steady). If I plug in the modem to the WAN port, the links light is solid and the Act LED blinks. A loopback connection between ports cause the LEDs to light up fine (tried all port combinations).

If I unplug the power, hold the reset button 15 seconds, then power it back on, plug a connection in from my secondary router to the WAN port, the router shows up in the Active Clients list, but I cannot connect to the IP listed, even if manually associating the IP with the MAC address listed..

Because of all this, I can't re-flash the firmware even using the tftp method, since it fails to connect to the IP address in the first place.

What I have tried so far:

 - 30/30/30 reset (multiple times)

 - manually setting static IP 192.168.1.100 with gateway 192.168.1.1

 - manually associating the ip 192.168.1.1 with the mac address of the router with netsh

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Two Wired Routers In Non-standard Hookup

Sep 14, 2011

I have a home network with a wired BEFSR41 that, for a variety of reasons, MUST be manually IP configured (DHCP off).  All computers and other devices connected to it are manually IP configured.  I desire to add a device that cannot be manually configured, and needs DHCP.  I therefore need to daisy-chain two routers with the second one DHCP on (and manual IP connection to the main network).  The new device needs two-way internet access, but doesn't care if it sees any other current network devices.  I've tried several configurations, none seem to work.

Everything works fine when I plug them in to the DSL modem 1 by 1 but when I try to put the Linksys "in the middle"... nothing... So I'm pretty sure its not my DSL modem or connection. All the lights come up on the Linksys as they should (power, internet and the Ethernet) but for some reason it seems the internet not getting trought the router. When its connected and I pull up my internet browser I type 192.168.1.1 and it takes me to the linksys config site. Without the router in the same address go to the Westell site as thats my DSL modem. Everything looks fine on the config site. All the correct IP, MAC, DNS address are there and still no internet access on any of my device.

Linksys Wired Router :: Replacing A BEFSR41 V2?

Feb 20, 2011

Comcast upgraded me to a 30 Mbps speed, and my trusty old BEFSR41 v2 doesn't cut it.    Cisco promotes wireless routers with a 1 Gbps ethernet, I would rather have a wired router, and use a WAP that I can unplug when I am not using it, since, for now, I only connect my work notebook wirelessly.    Most wireless routers also generate a lot more heat than a wired one does, and I don't need any more heat in my Houston home.A new BEFSR41 v4.3 is only 10/100 Mbps.  There doesn't seem to be any 1 Gbps wired routers for home use.  Will a new BEFSR41 give me 100% of the cable Dociss 3.0 speed, or would I need to get a 1 Gbps router to get the fastest throughput?  Or do I  only need to upgrade when the cable speed increases closer to 100 Gbps?If a 1 Gbps router is better, are there any simple business wired routers you could recommend?

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 V3 Limited Or No Connectivity

Feb 22, 2011

i have a BEFSR41 v3 firmware v 1.05.00 - i have been usuing it for at least 7 or 8 years now - at one time i had 3 computers hooked up and they all three worked fine. Now i have 2 plugged into the router - both are xppro machines - the one i am now works with no problems. The other computer however has the limited or no connectivity problem.I used this router for years without any problems then one day this ip conflict message started to appear. Then one day i started getting this weird ip conflict message on both computers but only occasionaly - it never caused any problems - if you ignored it - it would simply go away. Then one day computer #2 got the limited or no connectivity message - i simple reboot fixed it. This solution worked several times. Computer #1 has never had any problems.

Sometime later the limited or no connectivity problem reappeared and this time a reboot did not work - i searched for a fix and decided to try changing the link speed from auto sense to 10mb half duplex - this solved the problem. This solution worked several times.Sometime after that the limited or no connectivity reappeared and after some searching i upgraded the routers firmware - this solved the problem.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time i had to actually uninstall the NIC, reboot and then let it redetect the NIC and then the problem was fixed. This solution worked several times.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity reappeared and the previous solutions did not work to fix it - after searching for a fix i discovered that i could simply unplug the router and the plug it back in and this would solve the problem. This solution worked many times.Sometime later (wich brings us to 3 or 4 months ago) the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time after searching for a fix i was able to fix it by updating the NIC drivers. Problem solved. This brings us to now - the limited or no connectivity has reappeared and none of the previous fixes correct the problem. When i originally set everything up it worked immediately out of the box.

DHCP is enabled - everything is set to obtain an ip address automatically. At first the event viewer reported The IP address lease 192.168.1.100 for the Network Card with network address0xxxxxxxxx has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1. {The DHCP Serversent a DHCPNACK message}.Now the even viewer just tells me it is using ip address 169.254.xxxxxx - (not the exact message but i didn't wanna go back and look)I have tried all of the previous fixes to no avail. I've tried shutting everything off and turning everything back on - i've tried resetting both the modem and the router - i've tried upgrading the firmware again. I even downloaded LELA and installed it on both computers thinking maybe it would detect and fix the problem buy no such luck. LELA simply tells me that computer #1 is working normally. On computer #2 when i installed LELA the first thing it did was try to find the router and it tells me it cannot find it.I.ve tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew - i've tried it one after the other and also a reboot in between. I've tried clicking on repair in the LAN status - i've tried even tried different cables and switching ports on the router.
