what is the optimal advanced settings for the ae2500 wireless adapter while gaming. I keep getting lag spikes with my games. Is there a always on option or like a gaming mode? If so what is it.

This past Christmas, my family got about 4 new wifi devices which they added to the network bringing the total number of devices on my home network to 10. I wanted to know if there are any advanced settings in Cisco Connect that I can tweak to make my wifi speeds faster because right now I'm getting about 55 Mbps on most of my devices. I was also wondering what the typical range of the e2500 router was and if the e4200 offers a large improvement.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought an AE2500 wireless adapter, and I've had problems setting it up, I've checked my port drivers versions and they're all up to date, I have looked over countless websites figuring out why it is doing this, my computer is a Windows Vista, and my last resort is formatting the computer, I've been here for countless hours trying to get this to work, when I run the disk with the adapter, it gets stuck at "Detecting Adapter" and ends up coming up with "Cannot find wireless adapter" or something really close to that. I've tried switching it to all of my USB ports, and nothing is working!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just moved an older Windows XP Desktop /w Service Pack 3 from my parent's house over to mine after having my laptop fail on me. It was previously connected wirelessly at their house with a Microsoft MN-510 wireless adapter. When I got it up and running at my house, it was not picking up any networks with the MN-510. So I picked up a new AE2500 today, thinking that the ancient MN-510 may be the problem. Plugged it in, threw in the disc and voila, it started picking up Networks. The problem is, It is not connecting to my Network. The router is a Motorola SBG901. I have already disabled the security on the router and made sure that the MAC Filtering is disabled, but it is still not connecting. There has been no other issues with connecting any of our other devices.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my router to the Linksys E4200 and setup a 40MHz connection using Channels 44+48 of the 5Ghz spectrum. This works really well on my wife's Lenovo T420 w/Centrino 2x2 and Windows 7. I get over 100Mbit sustained performing CIFS file transfers from my file server. My SSID for 5Ghz is different from 2.4 so I can easily verify which one I'm connected to.
I wanted to do the same on my laptop which is a bit older (Lenovo T410) and only supported 2.4Ghz. So I bought the new Cisco AE2500 802.11n USB adapter and plugged it into a USB2.0 slot (I believe all slots are USB 2.0 on this laptop). I'm using the latest driver from the Cisco website.
Windows XP reports a connection speed of "300Mbit" just like on the my wife's laptop -- but when I do the same CIFS file transfer my transfer rate is "stuck" at 39mbit download (13% of 300) and for uploads I'm getting 16-17% of 300 (approx 48Mbit).
I've tried fiddling with all manner of advanced settings in the Windows driver for the NIC with no avail. No matter what, it's like I'm capped at exactly 39 Mbit.
I tried reviewing the specs of the AE2500 and it says it has two antenna's per band. I assumed this meant it was 2x2? Is this not the case. Is it 1x1? Could this explain it? Or, does it matter which 5Ghz channels I use -- from the AE2500 spec sheet it seemed like it might not support all 5Ghz frequencies?
While 39Mbit is better than the 17-20Mbit I was getting on 802.11g, given how well my wife's laptop works using the Intel NIC it seems something is lacking with the AE2500 or its driver.
I have tried numerous times to install the disk and the adapter, but it always says it cannot locate the adapter. I know that the ports (I have tried them all) are working properly because they have been in use. I tried the chat. He suggested I call the 1-800 number. I don't have time to wait on hold forever, which I did anyway until I finally hung up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a WPA wireless network set up that utilizes a total of 4 WRT54GL routers as access points (on channels 1, 6, and 11 [the two APs furthest from each other both utilize 11). Each AP generally supports about 5 clients at a time (though sometimes as high as 10).Generally, everything is working, but the clients furthest from the access points occasionally lose their connections, and some users have reported periods when they are completely unable to obtain an IP. I am virtually certain that this is based on poor signal strength resulting from distance from the APs and/or RF interference from other APs in the building. I have done everything possible to improve signal strength by router placement, optimizing channel usage based upon RF surveys, and upgrading to high-gain omnis.
This leaves nothing to do apart from tweaking the advanced wireless settings to marginally improve problems related to weak signal and/or RF interference, so I've been reading everything I can find on these boards and elsewhere about changing Fragmentation Threshold, RTS threshold, and beacon interval. However, I'm left with the following questions.
1) There seems to be disagreement about Fragmentation threshold and RTS threshold settings. Some (including the Linksys Technical Troubleshooting Wizard) recommend that both be set to 2304. I have also seen people insist that Fragmentation be set to 2306 and RTS to 2304. A few recommend 2306 for both thresholds, and some advise 2306 for Fragmentation and 2307 for RTS (though by my limited understanding, it simply disables RTS when the value is higher than the fragmentation threshold value). Which of these settings is best? And more importantly, WHY is it the best? Generally, I understand what the settings do, but I am reluctant to change them when there doesn't seem to be a consensus about exactly what they should be.
2) With respect to beacon interval, I've seen both 75ms and 50ms recommmended to replace the default of 100ms. For a network of my size (4 APs, averaging 5 users each), will increasing the number of beacons (and hence the RF traffic even when the network is idle) pose a problem? Also, I'm a little less clear as to how this would improve connectivity.
Since these settings will affect all users, I want to make sure that I'm using settings that will be beneficial on the whole. The last thing I want to do is inadvertantly make things worse, and since I can't test things directly from the standpoint of each user.
I am interested to know if there is anywhere (even in the code) where i can play with the guest network settings?

is it even possible or an open source firmware is the way to go?
I use to use 2 routers, one for me and my dad, another for my brother and sister. We decided to get rid of the other router, and make our cisco E2000 our main router, but, everything on the router settings got removed so we had to reset it up. I remember reading an advanced setting guide on making my wireless speed go from 13.5MBPS to 216 MBPS, but i forgot what the settings was in advance settings.

I had to move my desktop computer to a different room with no ethernet connection so I purchased a Linksys AE2500 usb wireless adapter for it. My router/modem is a Actiontec 2000 which came with my internet. When I have my desktop on and connected to the internet it slows down all the computers on the network and it is really slow. My question is do I have something installed wrong? I used the driver for teh adapter from this site and nothing else has changed.

I updated xp/ and drivers and installed the ae2500 drivers. When I try to log on it starts to and shows connected however, it tells me "windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network" I noticed that this system has the same ae2500 with windows vista and uses wpa2-personal, aes. The xp system only has options for wpa-personal, aes. Is this the problem or is it something else?

We previously had a standard router, but upgraded since it seemed to be moving too slow. This problem with the adapter existed then also and we thought maybe it was too many computers slowing down the router.The adapter works great until I try to open certain websites. Then it loses its mind. I get a popup that says "Dial Up Connection" and wants me to choose to connect or work offline. When I click connect, I get a second window that says "Connecting through WAN Miniport", but it never actually connects to the page. Then lastly, a third popup says it has an error connecting and wants to redial and starts a countdown. But again, it never connects to the page.

I am unable to install the software which means, of course, I am unable to access any of the settings.The setup initializes, shows me the wireless network available (it has a locked padlock symbol next to a), and prompts me for the encryption key. It accepts the key and it's at this point the setup stalls. It shows the "attempting to connect to network" screen then, after whatever interval the software is set for before it times out, I get a notification that setup was unable to access the network. The generic Windows drivers access the network just fine although I only get two bars and a fair connection.I do have Internet connection through the windows drivers but it is slow and watching streaming video from Netflix is next to impossible.Long story short

Recently I'm working on a program that needs multiple seperate wireless connections on a Windows XP SP3 PC. Each wireless adaptor is given a static IP address to respond to traffic at some specific ports. I can install four AE2500 adaptors without problem, but it disconnects the first AE2500 device when I plug in the fifth AE2500 adapter. I've tried on different windows XP machines. They all get the same problem. I wonder if it is a limitation in the AE2500 driver.BTW I've also tried to install an Valet AM10 adaptor as the fifth adapter, it seems ok. Yet installing more AM10 adapters beyond the fifth (4 AE2500 + 1 AM10) requires some luck. It may disconnect the other AM10 devices when I plug in another AM10 adapter.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a AE2500 adapter recently and attempted to install the Cisco Connect software. It gets to the point of connecting the device to the wireless, then crashes. I noticed that as I plugged the device in, it was recognised and activated without running the software at all; at the time of the software trying to connect the device, it's already connected.Just in case it was a matter of an old version of the driver and Cisco Connect software, I went online to the website and downloaded both the most recent driver and the latest version of Cisco Connect. The Cisco Connect crashed just like the version on the CD, and the driver said it was already the latest version and wouldn't install.So I tried the direct chat option. I spoke to two people. One of them lead me to give them a lot of information, then began asking me about my router... and promptly forgot about the adapter. They even had me on the path to resetting and installing software for the router I'm connected to, which isn't mine. Then the chat session crashed. why the Cisco Connect program keeps repeatedly crashing, and how I can stop it from doing so. As it stands, I think the adapter is overloading the memory on my computer and causing blue screens; I've been getting them ever since I connected the adapter. I think it might have something to do with my computer automatically detecting and activating the device when it's plugged in, but I'm not sure.

I have tried all 8 usb ports on the back of my computer and the 2 case ports. Non of them detect the adapter when running the setup executable. I have no other usb devices connected. Windows 7 was installed on this machine at the begining of this month. I have attempted to install the AE2500 on another windows 7 pc and it installed with no problems. I suspect the problem is the motherboard.
I currently have an AE2500 wireless usb plugged into my pc which is upstairs from my modem NetGear CG3100.Everytime I establish a wireless connection it has 4-5 bars of signaltivity. However after a couple of seconds the signal bars drop to 2 bars and maintains that way. I then experience disconnections which sometimes if i disconnect from the web, my browser detects it as a DNS error. To overcome this i just disconnect from the hotspot and reconnect again but the problem still persists.

Mainly seems to do it when playing online games and testing out speed test.net It does "Download" test fine, "Upload" test is iffy. Sometimes I can run the test 1-2 times sometimes three times, but seems to always drop connection on one of the "upload" tests.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I just got hooked up to the internet via qwest the other day with my room mate. We have a wireless modem (PK5000) and he's using the AE2500 usb adapter to get online. Now, he can get online, but if he ever turns off or sleeps his computer, he can't connect when he turns it back on. His computer can see the network, full signal, but when he tries to connect it says cannot connect and under troubleshoot options suggests we should move his computer closer to the modem, but its only about 20 feet away and shows full signal. To get it to work, we need to go into the modem config and reset the wireless options. No changes are made, just scroll to the bottom and click apply, and presto change he can connect with no problems.He's running windows 7 home edition 64 bit. The modem's security is WPA/WPA2.

I am using a LInksys E2500 dual band router but my samsung laptop's wireless adapter doesn't support 5ghz band, so bought the AE2500.I disabled the internal adapter and got the AE2500 connected up. I've set up the 5ghz channel with wireless N, and left 2.5ghz as it was. Somehow I am now experiencing slower speeds on both bands, when using speedtest.net's speed test. It's the 2nd time in my life I am having an issue like this, where I am adding something with capacity for more speed but end up things being worse. Previous was with a netgear adapter and router a few years ago. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I honestly don't think so.Also best sequence to get the new adapter connected? Should I do it before I disable the existing adapter?

Can't find any but one network(neighbors).CD software can't find adapter.I install the adpter manually using normal xp device discovery steps.Seems like there is quite a few AE2500 issues. Should I ask for RMA return? No point in wasting more time in trying to fix Cisco's tech issue.
