Linksys Wireless Router :: E1500 Poor QoS Performance After Firmware Update
Jun 2, 2012I have upgrade firmware of E1500 to latest release to version 1.0.04 and found out bad performance of the router QoS.

View 6 RepliesI recently purchased an EA4500. It started out working really well, but recently I noticed that my speed on my iPhone and iPad has dropped significantly. When I'm in my office where the router is set up, I'm getting around 15 to 20 mb download speed and 5+ upload speed. When I go to my living room about 40 feet away my speed drops to 1mb down and less than 1 up. I expect to see a drop in my performance the further away I get from the router, but this seems really unacceptable to me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe wireless connection barely registers in the Speed Test within Cisco Connect - .56 download, 5.35 upload. A cable connection gives 2.4 download and 5.5 upload. The E900 is not far from the computer with no obstacles between. Is the wireless portion of the E900 set up improperly? Is there anything I can do to improve the wireless performance?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have EA4500 acting as a router on domainless all-Windows network of two XP machines.Unfortunately, EA4500 aggressively grabs the role of the Master Browser (I am talking about Computer Browser Service) on the network (regardless in which order you power the devices up) and then doesn't serve as a working Master Browser - both Windows machines stop listing the network computers in the "Network Neighborhood" and incur massive timeouts when attempting to view the listing.A quick look with 'browstat.exe status' reveals that indeed the router has announced itself as a Master Browser device, but returns errors when you query it.Quite predictably, without the router, both machinces figure out amongst each other who will be the Master Browser and everything works fine. The problems begin only when you add the router to the network.
1) Is there any way to make EA4500 work like a full-blown Master Browser (the one that not only announces itself, but also serves as such)? having a Master Browser integrated in "always-on" router would really improve the predictability of the network.
2) If not, is there any way to disable the Master Browser on EA4500? For now I managed to achieve that by assigning the router to different workgroup name, but this is lame, as I now can't connect a disk storage to the router and use it within the same workgroup.
I am backing up massive amounts of data to the cloud. Everytime I do this, the wireless performance on my EA4500 seems to degrade to half its throughput. I am using the 2.4 GHz band.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI read the sticky related to firmware updates. I have a DIR-655, that has been been giving me good service for quite a few years. I subscribe to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy as I have managed to keep my home network and computers running over the years, but I'm not knowledgable in these matters. I am still running firmware 1.10, and have not wanted to take a chance that if I upgraded I would find myself with numerous devices with no connectivity (running mix of Mac and PC desktops and laptops, XBox, Wii, Roku box, numerous iPhones and iPods, LG TV, and an iPad).
Recently I moved to the cable company phone, and they added a new modem. They have it set as a gateway (I think that is the terminology), and my network works basically as it did before. I have noticed though, that my Roku box, laptops, and skype on my Mac desktop seem to be having periods of slower download (Roku box), skype choppiness, and download that stop. I was thinking that perhaps if I upgraded the firmware, my performance might improve. After reading the sticky, it seems like firmware may not be the answer. This is a reliable but older piece of equipment, and now I'm thinking that I just need to upgrade to a newer and perhaps more advanced router.
I run my virgin broadband through an old NTL modem and a Belkin router. I haveit all attached to a computer in my study along with a new 6TB Buffalo Nas drive. The computer has GIGABIT LAN. I use Belkin powerline units to relay the network around the house. In my lounge i have a blu ray player, AV amp and my sky box attached to the network via the Belkin powerline units and all run ok. This week i have added a Cambridge audio streamer but i am suffering now from a lot of dropouts and network failures escpecially when trying to stream music from my NAS. all seem to be set up correctly as per the manuals. I have spent a lot on this unit specificallly to stream my music so this is really important to get working correctly The powerline units can flash blue (fast ) or orange (slower) but i only see the orange light .My local dealer says i need to upgrade my Modem/Router and has suggested an ASUS RT-N66U which I understand is a modern 2.5/5ghz model . he says my system is overloaded
A few questions.
Is this a suitable modem for me to use on my Virgin cable broadband? (apparently there are two alternatives types of modem/router)
Is there a better alternative unit ?
Could there be another cause for my problems and if so how do i diagnose them ?

View 1 Replies View Relatedan EA6500 router that has intermmitent connectivity issues. Went into the configuration page and saw he was a couple versions behind on firmware. Used the online update option, firmware downloaded and then indicated that router would reboot. Did not power off router or leave the configuration web page. Watched light go out on router and come back on, but the spinning wait icon never went away after 5 minutes. Powered off and on and was back at the same point with the old firmware still. Downloaded the firmware to local drive and applied from local file, but same results. Waited 10 minutes this time. Surely it doesn't take more than 10 minutes for the router to reboot itself from a firmware flash?
Gave up on trying to update firmware and configured wifi settings. Left friend's house and then got a message about 15 minutes later that the router had locked up again. If he pulls power for 2 minutes it will then work for another short period of time.
Is there anything that can be done to try and restore normal operation to this particular router, or are these all signs of a hardware failure and the unit should just be replaced?
Just got a WRT120N and went online to get the most recent firmware and when i performed the upgrade it's gets about 3/4 of the way completed before it just stalls and start screen blinking like it's caught up or something. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got an older SRX200 that is starting to "disconnect" frequently (loss of wireless connectivity). I've gone to the Linksys website to download a firmware update, as a potential fix, but the website says no firmware is available. The current version I'm using is 1.01.18.

On the mac it looks like a normal zip file but when I click to "unzip" it it just creates another zip file. When I download it on a pc it doesn't even look like a zip it's just a blank white square. Both computers have always downloaded zips fine, so I'm thinking it maybe is a problem with the file?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased 3 E4200v2 routers. As I am prepping them to install, I am attempting to update the firmware from 2.0.26 -> 2.0.37. I downloaded the zip file from the Cisco support site and when unzipped the file is named FW_E4200_2.0.37.131047.SSA. When I attempt to do a manual update from the Admin page, I imediately get an image file is incorrect error.
I've downloaded the file a total of three times on 2 separate networks and have tried three different browsers to attempt the update, all with the same error. The support chat sessions have proven worthless, they seem very scripted and the last one kept trying to sell me a support contract...
I want to stay with the Classic firmware, even though it is lacking current bug fixes. Does anyone have a "good" copy of the 131047 firmware? It appears to me that the one on the Cisco site is broken.
I have been having numerous issues with my router dropping both my wired and wireless connection multiple times an hour. I checked the Cisco website for the firmware update and it says the download is no longer available. I am on firmware 1.02.06. Does someone have a newer version? I'm hoping a firmware update will resolve this issue.

I have been having trouble with my router with wireless network intermittently cutting out every couple minutes (on all devices, like laptop, phone, and tablet.) So, in my wisdom, I went online and downloaded version 2 firmware and after power cycling the wireless doesn't work anymore. Questions:
I have my old Dell Desktop connected (hardwired) into the router, and it works when I take the wireless router out of the loop. How do I update the firmware on the router if I can't connect wirelessly or hardwire anymore? I want to go to version 1 to see if that will solve the original issue.
For the original issue of cutting out and reconnecting constantly, would version 1 work or something else? It isn't my cable modem, as internet has always worked fine connecting desktop or laptop directly.
I currently have a WRT54GS ver 1.0 running firmware version v2.07.1Ran through the whole installation procress as described in the firmware upgrade instructions pdf and it said Successful and hit continue. Hit continue, held the reset button down for 10 seconds then powered off the router for 30 seconds and plugged it back in.My firmware version in the router is still saying v2.07.1, I would assume it should say 4.21.4?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a remote site connected to ADSL line with a Cisco 887VA router attached. This has been working fine for the last couple of months. However, recently, the site have started to complain of performance issues (network slow, applications disconnecting, etc)Looking on the router, we can see evidence of packet loss/timeouts from a simple ping to the internet e.g. [code]
However, we have logged the fault with our service provider and they return all line tests as clear but what is particularly strange is that they also report “and the SNR Margins are well within threshold levels (Upstream 11.5 and Downstream 15.0)” which, unless I’m misunderstanding something, seems to be completely different from what the router itself is reporting. Is there a reason why the service provider’s stats for Noise Margin would appear to be so different from what the router is reporting?
