Netgear Prosafe FVS318N Router - Configuring VPN?
May 7, 2012
After scouring the internet for weeks I've hit a road block trying to figure this out. I've got a Netgear Prosafe FVS318N router that I am trying to enable VPN on for my office. I've read all sorts of information online about port forwarding, VPN policies, and many other things that ultimately don't tell me how to set up VPN on my specific router. Now, I've set up PPTPD on an in-house linuxbox as a makeshift VPN server and I'm successfully able to establish a VPN connection to it from a local connection (e.g. 192.168.etc. local ip address). However, when I try and VPN connect from a client outside of my office's network, I try connecting to my router's external ip address and this yields no success. My ASSUMPTION is that this has to do with a port not being properly forwarded, or something of that nature. What are the necessary steps I can take with my specific router and router firmware, which is 4.0.1-66, in order to get a VPN server up and running that listens to outside connections?

They have a NETGEAR ProSafe VPN Firewall FVX538 on 192.168.1.1. They have 2 different wi-fi routers, one is static at 192.168.1.4, the other is not static.Someone donated a Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router. They asked me to set that up. But i cannot get to the home page to change the IP address. 'multiple routers' it says to simply unplug one, so you can get to the config page at 192.168.1.1. I can not unplug the main router for the business, right? Do i need to change the IP of the Netgear temporarily? Will that bring down the network?

I used to have a Netgear Prosafe 318 conncted to a Netgear Prosafe 336G in a small office environment across the WAN between two offices, IPsec preshared key. The 318 took a dive so I decided to upgrade to a new Cisco RV180 VPN router. I set up the VPN access rules exactly the same and forklift upgraded the Prosafe 318 (same IP, same rules, same pre-shared key, IKE setup etc) and the VPN tunnel comes up fine. However, even though the VPN tunnel says connected and I have no problems pinging anything across IPsec between subnets I cannot seem to connect to anything from the cisco side.
From the Netgear side I can connect to anything on the cisco subnet (192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0) but from the cisco side anything I try and connect to on the netgear side (172.16.0.1 / 255.255.255.128) times out.Encryption AES-128 (although also tried 3des), Sha-1 SA-lifetime is 3600 seconds, PFS key group enabled DH-group2 (although also tried group1)IKE policy direction Both, identifier FQDN (both sides), Preshared key SA-lifetime 28800 seconds. Firmware is updated on both the netgear and the RV180 to latest version (1.0.0.30 on RV180).Like I said from Netgear to Cisco through VPN tunnel everything works fine from Cisco to Netgear everything times out.

I have a Netgear N300 and am using a linksys wrtg54g flashed with dd-wrt as an extender. I would like to setup my wireless network to limit various devices (laptops, iPod touch, etc) to certain times of the day.
How do I configure both devices to limit connectivity? I've got it down pretty much on the NetGear using a MAC address filter and scheduling the services, but I am not sure how to get the extender to do the same.

I wanted to know a few things before I buy. Here are my questions:1. What is the difference between the ProSafe GS116 and the GS116v2 What is the size of the Queue Memory Buffer present on the Netgear ProSafe Plus GS116E switch? I think I read that it was 512KB. What I need to know is, is that 512KB per port or shared amongst all 16 ports? 3. What are the differences between the GS116 and the GS116E? I know some of the differences, but I would like to know in detail about them, especially the hardware ones, before I make a selection.

Having some problems connecting up my "new" AP My current set-up consists of a Netgear "Virgin Superhub" cable modem/wireless router, a ZyXEL WRE2205 (repeater) in the hall on the first floor, and Ethernet connections through to a number of rooms, including the loft. I can't get wireless access in the loft, and I want to put the AP up there, connected through Ethernet. I want to use the same SSID and security for the AP as on the router and repeater so I can roam around(!) That's possible isn't it?What I've done so far (which hasn't worked) is connected via laptop to AP, set AP into AP mode(!), set the AP to dynamic IP, set the SSID / security the same as the router/repeater, plugged the AP into the Ethernet and tried to connect.

I need to front-end my ISP's router with another, giving me a DMZ. I have bought an EA2700 for this but I can't find how to configure it.
I plan to have the DMZ network as 10.1.2.0/24, with the ISP's router at 10.1.2.254 and the EA2700's "upstream" connection as 10.1.2.1. The internal network (where most of the clients reside) will then be 10.1.1.0/24, with the EA2700 itself at 10.1.1.254 and a DHCP range 10.1.1.100 upwards.
On the basic setup screen I've set the Internet connection type to fixed IP, 10.1.2.1; I've set its default gateway and DNS1 as the ISP's router at 10.1.2.254. Then further down in network setup I've entered the *internal* address 10.1.1.254 and set the DHCP range and netmask appropriately. I'm getting the error message "The IPv4 address and gateway are not in the same subnet mask". But the only gateway I've entered is the one by which the *EA2700* knows how to route upstream traffic, viz the ISP's router at 10.1.2.254. Or am I misunderstanding?
More fundamentally, can the EA2700 be configured in this way?

I have a CISCO 851W router in the garage that I want to connect to my Linksys router in the office, which is connected to the internet. The 851W is connected from it's WAN port to Lan port 1 of the Linksys router. Now, currently that ethernet cable is a straight-through cable. Does it have to be crossover? If so, I can fix that.
I want the default gateway for the CISCO router to be 192.168.2.1. I am not sure how to configure that. [URL]

I know that you shouldn't update router firmware from a wireless connection. The other day, somebody told me that you shouldn't configure a router(such as changing passwords, channels, etc) from a wireless connection. I change my router settings from a wireless connection all the time.

I use the cisco 871 router as a firewall to my home-office. I have configured two vlans for each seperate port. That is, FE0 configured as VLAN 10 ----> connected to Layer 2 Switch, FE1 configured as VLAN 20 ----> connected to another Cisco Layer 2 Switch,FE2 not in use, FE3 not in use and FE4 is connected to WAN.I got 100Mbps speed from the ISP, but I can see that I only get 50mbps even connected to VLAN 10 or VLAN 20.Does configuring two VLANs on Cisco 871 router divides the bandwidth (to Internet) into half?

configuring my Cisco 2951 router. There are three routed interfaces that I need to configure: one for the internal LAN, the second for another private subnet that connects to a Data Centre and the third for the WAN connection. I have configured the Ge0/0 interface as the LAN interface with the internal network 10.17.0.0/24. I have also configured my WAN interface Ge0/1 for internet connectivity. Now, I need to configure the third interface Ge0/2 that will connect to the Data Centre. This will be a private point to point switched ethernet link. The Data Centre will host a secondary domain controlller. So, I want it to be on the same network as the internal LAN, i.e., 10.17.0.0/24. I want to be able to see all other devices that will be located at the Data Centre just like I would see all devices connected to the internal LAN.The problem I am facing is that Cisco 2951 does not allow me to configure two routed interfaces to be on the same subnet. Is there any way to work around this problem and configure both the internal LAN and the Data Centre private network to be on the same subnet.

I've created two configurations. One for the router side and one for the AP point side. However, I am having trouble getting the internal AP to bridge to the router properly. It is my understanding that the Wlan-GigabitEthernet is the internal interface connecting to the AP and the BVI1 together. I can't ping any ip address on the router side from the ap and the radio is active and we can see it but it seems that it doesn't give an ip address. [code] Is it a VLan issue or an ip issue but I could use a second opinion. I've included both configurations.

The problem we're having is for example our FTP server 192.168.1.16, cannot be accessed from its outside IP address, which is NATed on the router. The server is verified to be up and running and when we do a show debug ip nat, we see the router is translating outside users attempting to access the ftp server to it's correct internal IP address.

I am using a broadband internet of a provider named BSNL,through a simple modem. Recently I got a Beetel 450BX1 ADSL2 + Router and want to use the wireless capability of the laptop so that I don't have to be glued to my table. The OS I'm using is Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) on an HP Compaq 6515b.I configured the modem by following the instructions in the following link url...I believe that's a straightforward method for configuring a router, and that accomplishing this is very simple.I followed the steps, only changed the username and password to that given by BSNL.Then, finally I unplugged the LAN cable and clicked on Connect to <connection name>, punched in the serial key. But it does not connect and says "Windows was unable to connect". Even after using Windows Network Troubleshooter the problem is not solved.

We have network that uses a Cisco router and use a WAP54G to access the network wirelessly.
We use static IP address so if someone wants to use the wireless an IP address has to be assigned to it and be manually configured for IP Address, Gateway, Sub Net Mask and DNS.
This is becoming unwieldly, but it is safe. Is there any way to config the WAP54G as a router that would automatically assign an IP address in a range just for wireless devices.
Therefore the wireless devices could be set up as DHCP and we would use WPA/WPA2 encryption with a passkey, instead of just assigning static IP addresses.
