Network Turns Unidentified On Internet Connection Sharing
Jan 4, 2013
I am connected to a public wifi in my building thru built-in adapter of my laptop. I am running Windows 7 Home Basic. The connection allows only one device to run on one login name. I need to share this connection with my other device by turning my laptop into hotspot or thru ethernet. I have tried using Virtual Wifi Miniport and Connectify. I have tried LAN also. But I encounter the same problem in all the cases. As soon as I turn on internet sharing thru the properties of my public wifi connection, the Virtual Wifi or the LAN turn "Unidentified" and there is no internet on my other device. I even tried using a usb wifi adapter to connect to public wifi and sharing the internet over my laptop's adapter and vice versa but to no avail.
My router (which is a combo device, modem + router) only allows 4 devices to connect to the internet at one time. That would be fine, but the router SAVES the device that was used. So even if I disconnect all 4 of the devices currently using the internet, I can't connect with a new PC.I tried removing power to the router for 30 seconds but it didn't work. I still can't connect with my PC. I can't reset the router because my ISP put a custom firmware in it that locks me out, so I'd have to be a couple days without internet and that's not acceptable. So I decided to use a LAN cable to share the internet from my laptop to the PC.Problem is, I get that little yellow icon and when I move the mouse over the connection it says "Unidentified Network". File sharing is working but I just can't connect to the internet on the PC.
Computer: Dell Inspiron 14R SE Ethernet card: Atheros AR8161/8165 (NDIS 6.20) Cable is a CAT cable plugged into a wall socket.
Symptoms: No internet access, and network is displayed as "Unidentified Network".
Steps taken:
1. MAC address for the Ethernet LAN adapter given to sysadmin 2. TCP/IP reset. Winsock reset. DNS flush. 3. Uninstalled/reinstalled device drivers 4. Disabled ipv6 5. Complete system wipe, restore factory image 6. Checked device manager, all running properly. 7. Repeated steps 1-4 after wipe. No firewall, Windows Firewall is off.
Sysadmin checked the system, nothing out of the ordinary- it should be connected but it isn't. DCHP etc enabled. Said the sniffer on his end not picking anything up.

Since I can tether the laptop to my Android smartphone through WiFi with no problem I am contemplating setting up a wireless router to solve the problem.
I am also running Vista with Avast and 3 days ago it just stopped connecting to the internet and told me there is an unidentified network / local area connection only
I have actually restored to a point a long time back now, before I had avast and the problem still persists.
In device manager I have the 6to4 adapter with a yellow triangle next to it with an exclamation mark. Not sure if this is relevant as many posts I've seen elsewhere seem to say that you can ignore that, as the 6to4 is not what is used in connecting to the internet
My Computer has been working perfectly fine, the connection super and the network perfect. But for some reason I go to sleep everything's fine and now zilch. It say's im connected to my network but that it's unidentified and I can't get on to my Internet. It's just that computer though, everything else like this laptop can connect to the network and the internet. No changes were made so i'm really not sure what has caused this. Nothings new either. My signal strength is excellent as well. Password Protected sharing has been off, has this compromised me?
I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection. Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses. When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.
I live in an apartment and I am forced to only use the apartment's internet service to go online. There are two ways to access the apartments network; via ethernet port or wifi. Once im connected and try to browse, I will first be taken an http login page to enter my username and password. The problem with this is I can only use the username and password for one computer at a time. Trying to get my second laptop to access the web using the same user and password will give me an error saying it is currently being used. As I have two laptops (work and personal), I would like to share the internet connection using a device that will allow either or both machines to connect simutaneously. What device will I need?
Im using a usb wireless connection to the internet i want to share this connection with other computers connected through both wired and wireless connection on a network. I was able to do this in XP but having problems in Windows 7
I have to use a single network connection to provide LAN / WAN to a computer and an Apple TV.Is it better to use a network bridge or internet connection sharing? One connection is Gigabit and the other is Ethernet. If I use a bridge will it be degraded to 100Mbs?
recently I've connected to my OpenVPN and everything works fine on my PC I'm getting okay speeds and the VPN IP appears on [URL]The problem is I wanna use internet connection sharing to play Xbox Live while connected through my VPN and I'm having issues. My Xbox isn't even recognizing my wired connection. This is the setup:Wireless Connection > Desktop > OpenVPN > Wired connection from desktop to XboxWhat I think I'm doing wrong is not specifying the correct home networking connection for my LAN 3 (Tap-Win32 Adapter OAS)I tried sharing the LAN 3 connection and set the home networking connection to my Wireless and it disconnects me from my wireless network.
i can search for networks. As you can tell i am currently on the internet on my laptop. I can search for the current network i am on through my adapter. I then connect to it. It says im connected to a unidentified network. It will not let me search the internet or anything else.
basically was online with my desktop until around 4am central US time. Went into the other room and fell asleep. Woke up around 9am, sat back down, Unidentified network and No Internet access. That's where this god-awful day began. I've tried so many things (from tech forums) I may forget a few... I've tried disabling IPv6, disabling Bonjour, enabling/disabling the adapter card, all kinds of stuff in the command prompt... reset this, flush that, restart restart restart restart restart. I uninstalled the adapter driver, rebooted, installed the latest from a flash drive, didn't do anything. Really the only suggestion I haven't taken is recovering Win7 from factory specs and reinstalling about everything since one guy said that still didn't fix it and this is causing enough trouble already without more misery in the mix.
When i do that last thing you were telling him to do my laptop begins to identify ... after a minute or so it stops displaying an unidentified network with no internet acces. IPv4 connectivity : no internet access as well as the IPv6.
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium ACER Aspire X3400 Nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 ethernet Cable internet SB1502 Cable modem
When I try to connect to the internet, it just says "identifying" then says it is an "unidentified network". I've tried:
Resetting the modem Checked all cables Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers Disabled & enabled the drivers It's set to automatically connect to DNS Updating the ethernet with the latest from Microsoft Ran ipconfig /release and renew Tried another modem and new cables Tried other houses with DSL & Cable internet
I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.
My wireless system has an added network connection: "Unidentified network" with no internet access, My regular home network connection shows internet access I cannot seem to get rid of that one "Unidentified network and I keep getting disconnected sometimes and have to go to the network and sharing center. That can take anywhere to 10 minutes before I am back on "network access". Right now the sharing center shows multiple networks with icons for both.
I bought a new Belkin router. I use to have a Netgear (modem+router). The Belkin router is connected to a Motorola modem.I connected my devices and 2 desktops to the router wirelessly and I have internet access. There's one that connects but there's no internet access. It will say identifying-no internet access and sometimes it will say unidentified network-no internet access. It will connect to the internet with the ethernet cable though.I know how to get my ip address .I have a windows 7..Here's the ipconfig:
i switched from vista to win 7but after that my lan network is showing unidentified network and no internet access but my wirless network connect with internet easily
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Onboard network, PCIe GBE Family Controller (wired) Truecrypt AVG Internet Security 2013 Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro
Startet out with getting Trojan.Agent.cn in svchost.exe, according to Malwarebytes it got "removed".But the next time i startet the computer, it was there again. So i did some research on how to remove it.Used tdsskiller, Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit, roguekiller, and finaly combofix, before i got it removed. From this point, Malwarebyte Anti-Malware was unable to start, and has to be reinstalled.Next problem was the Network was stuck on identifying network, after doing some research on my new problem,
After checking out in services, DHCP client, DNS Client, TCP/IP netbios helper, plus some others wasnt running. They were sat to Automatic start, but was stopped for some reason. When chosing to start DHCP client i got this,
Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion
Same for DNS Client and others. After searching the net, i found several solutions, where i only got one to "work".Alot of them suggested to edit this in the registry, but the only thing i got working was to delete the entry, and have windows restore it by it self.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services Dhcp DependOnService
This somewhat solved the Identifying network, that was stuck on, but only to get me to Unidentified network, still without internet. By looking into services again, DHCP Client is now marked as "Started", but several of the others are not, and i still get the error on the others.
I live on a school campus of sorts, with several wifi connections and routers (all of which I have access to, and can reset, etc). Normally I have no problems connecting to any and all wireless routers. Recently, my internet quit without warning. I've tried connecting via a hardline, and I've tried resetting pretty much every router and connection on campus, with no luck. Everyone else is still able to connect with no problems. When I connect to a campus wireless connection, it connects, but gives me the error "rseau non identifi, pas d'accs Internet" (translates to "unidentified wire/network, no internet access"If I run diagnostics on my network card, it finds the problem as an invalid IP configuration:
"Problmes trou - Connexion seau sans fil 3 n'a pas de configuration IP valide"
If I run ipconfig/all, I get the following:
Microsoft Windows [version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. C:UsersUtilisateur>ipconfig /all Configuration IP de Windows
I had an issue with my Win 7 networking on LAN but no problem on wifi. When I plug in the network cable, it takes very long time to detect, and when it does, it shows Unidentified Network - No Internet Access and stays as public network. I do not have the normal options to choose Home, Work or Public Network. This happen at my work place. But my colleagues which on Win 7 have no issue. I tried to uninstall the anti-virus, disable the window firewall, but still fails to detect. There are few LAN port at my work place but it produce the same issue, very, very slow to detect.
I am suddenly unable to connect to the internet. My signal stregnth is "excellent" to my router, on my desktop but unable to connect to the internet and says "unidentified network" in Network and Sharing Center. Tried to "Diagnose and repair" and automoatic new IP setting prompt but this didint work.
Turned on off, reset, all the basic tricks. I am able to connect wirelessly with my laptop and ipad so it is not a router issue.
i just recently moved my computer to a new house the wifi adapter is picking up the correct wifi and connecting to it but not accessing the internet there is also no network access. i completed an ipconfig/all the details are below.

I have HP Dx7500 with windows 7 ultimate 32bit using intel 82567v-2 gigabite network connection the pc is connected to a router (D-Link 2760u) with a cable through 2 network points
I worked with this configuration for a month with no problems until one day after automatic restart coused by windows update i couldnt connect to the internet
As for now the pc is unable to identify my home network (when you look at the network adapter you can see "Unidentified network - No internet access") Ipconfig brings back APIPA 169.254... All the laptops in the house are connecting to the network with no problems when connecting with wireless adapter everything works fine
I tried the folowing : - update the network adapter driver - reseting the TCPIP protocol (netsh) - static ip
Two days since i had a power shutdown in my building so i had to disconnect both the modem and the routerfter i reconnected them my wireless network is shown and i can connect through my hp laptop but it keeps showing the Message "unidentified network not internet access". Other laptops and my ipod have no problem at all. I've tried following some tutorials that told me to disable and enable the network, i've checked that my ip is obtained automatically.
so the problem started with the normal limited connectivity, i was given the laptop and tried to rectify the problem using ip resets renew, release, ipvc reset, winsock reset and it wouldnt budge,if i leave the ipv4 settings to automatic it will not display the ssid of the router, it will connect to it but display unidentified network, if i enter the ip address dns e.t.c then it will display the router but it will still not connect to the internet, i have tried updating drivers, removing all drivers and letting windows rediscover and install driver.i have also tried installing an internet dongle, the laptop will pickup the dongle, install the software but then display no connection.
I then tried installing a belkin wirless adapter but since the software is only up to vista i dont believe it has worked. ( everything installed ok but still will not connect to the internet) i am also finding out that it is not getting proxy details either. and on occasions i will get limited connectivity or the adapter will refuse to connect to the router.i have run xirrus wifi inspector on both my laptop (working) and his laptop (not working)the signal strength runs from about -44db too -50db which is strong enough but the automatic ip address differ alot according too xirrus these are the results

Namely an Unidentified Network with no NETWORK access. Some information first, the NIC that Im using is the Realtek PCIe Family Controller, Ive updated the drivers, Ive uninstalled, Ive reinstalled. Ive basically been on the internet for the past two days trying all the solutions. Including refreshing and renewing my ip, trying a static ip (although, Im still not sure if I did this step correctly) Ive tried disabling IPV6, Ive tried adjusting my speedflux. The problem is also intermittent with seemingly no reason whatsoever, some days Ill go without internet for the entire day, then the next day Ill boot up my computer and Ill have internet again. It should be noted that when I enable WIRELESS on my laptop, Im able to connect to the network, but when I enable wired, I am not able to.
Here is the ipconfig /all for when Im connected wirelessly and have a connection.

It should be noted that I am using powerline adapters for my connection, but as I said, this problem only recently started cropping up. I went fine for almost a week with no problems, then all of a sudden it started happening. Im still able to connect wirelessly so its not too much of an issue, but I prefer via Ethernet..

I am running windows 7 which has recently been updated from Vista. other computers on the wifi network are running vista. I have a net gear CG3000 IStaus router/cable modem attached to one of the other computers on the network. My network adapter is TP-Link.My firewall is commodore and my virus software is avast (both free versions). My SP is Optus. When I first installed windows 7 everything was working fine . In the last few weeks when I login to my computer, I can attach to the other computers but I have no internet connection. When I go into manage wireless networks it says I am connected to an unidentified network which has no Internet connection. I have tried deleting this network from " manage wireless networks", moving it down in this list, making it a manual connection. I have uninstalled the network adapter and reinstalled it and other ideas picked up from the web. Nothing seems to work. Sometimes I will get a quick window where it will work but then it disconnects again and the unidentified network is back. Not today though so am typing this on my IPad. I can't download or install XIRUS WIFI for obvious reasons.
