Windows XP Not Wirelessly Connecting With Linksys Adapter
May 2, 2012
I have an HP Pavilion desktop computer running Windows XP Home Edition. It used to never get internet wirelessly for some reason until one day i played around with it. I don't remember how but I got it to go online and it worked ever since. Just recently i have moved from my previous home and have finished setting up both of our computers. The Vista (the one i am using to write this) is an Ethernet connection and is having no problem connecting to the internet. Although, the XP for some reason will not connect to the internet. The adapter will find the network but when i type in the WPA2 it tries to connect but i think it times out or something. I have tried several solutions and none have worked. My father has a Toshiba laptop and he is currently having no issue with connectiong wirelessly to the internet. Our old verizon router stopped working when we attempted to set it up after the move, so verizon came and istalled a new one. It is secured with a WPA2 code whereas our older one was secured with a WEP code. I think it might be a problem with either the router or the wireless adapter itself (which is a Linksys Wireless-B Network Adapter). Also, when i logged into my router manager thing, I noticed that under the network, it said the XP was an inactive Ethernet Connection and not Wireless.
Here are some of the XP's specs:
Hewlett-Packard Pavilion
Intel[R] Pentium[R]
4 CPU
3.40 GHz
0.99 Gb of Ram

I have a network at home that me, my brother, and my parents share. I will be building my own PC and placing it in my room, which is upstairs. However, our router and modem are both downstairs. Now, my questions is, will that be a problem? As in, will my network bandwidth be bad? I really can't reconfigure my network nor can I have my computer downstairs since there is not enough room downstairs to place it. I also have a computer desk in my room from a few years back. The modem we have is 2700HG-B Gateway and the router is a CISCO Linksys one. I just have a miniUSB Wireless N adapter.

I am currently at a friends house attempting to fix a situation he is having with his' wireless router, it is a Linksys WRT150n.Connection to the internet is possible via ethernet connectivity, however wireless is another story, devices can see the network but cannot connect to it, i have disabled the security key from the network to see if it was a simple password incorrection but still no dice. The current basic wireless settings have network mode set to mixed, and radio band, wide and standard channels set to auto, all other settings in the advanced tab are set to their default values.

My WRT54G router locks up 100% of the time when attempting to connect connect wirelessly to a Samsung Blue Player (Model number BD-P3600). I can connect to it with a cable no problem, but when I attempt to do so wirelessly and type in the password on the Blue Ray player, it attempts to connect but the router locks up and all devices connected to it (wired or wirless) lose connectivity

I get a great wired connection but when I try for wireless the Samsung says I have a great connection, except when I try to use the Apps from the Blu Ray it tells me, No Internect Conncetion. Samusung support tells me I need to "open the ports" on my E3000 and make the Blu Ray a priority...I don't know how to do that.

Running Win XP (no service pack), WPA personal. Two other computers connect fine. On an old laptop running Win XP the network card sees the router, but when I enter the correct passcode (16 character) I get a message saying the code must be 13 characters. How can a connect this computer without disabling the other two wireless devices running through the router?

I have a Linksys X5000 hooked up with my home pc. The internet I get is free though the private school's network I work at (across the street) through a LAN. With a bit of wrestling I got my desktop to connect with the internet through the Linksys like an ethernet switch.I can't get my wireless devices to connect with the internet without logging in as a guest, which is annoying to do every time, especially through my iPod. They will gain access to my network, but not the internet.
Since this is a school network, my IT guy gave me a static IP address to speed up up/downloads by disabling DHCP. Every time I try to do that I get a message that "the page at 192.168.1.1 says the value can't be equal." OK, so I try to change my router's IP to 192.168.1.2 and...no luck, same message. I love working with hardware, but networking is beyond me. I don't think I can log into the guest screen in my own house any more! I am getting a new tablet in 2 days and this just won't do.

I have a BEFW11SF V4 firmware version 1.52.03. I just bought an HP DJ3051A and can't get it to connect. HP support says I need to change a setting to mixed mode but I don't see that I can. Does this router supports mixed mode and if so how do I change it?The other comment the HP rep made was the printer does not support Wireless N. I am fine with this since the router says Wireless B. It seems based on the HP rep's comment that as long as I am not using Wireless N, then I should be fine.

I have an original Xbox 360 (wifi not built in) and the external wifi adapter. With all previous Cisco routers, I have been able to connect my Xbox successfully and quickly. Now, however, I am experiencing much difficulty.
I have verified I am using the latest firmware for my router, and configured my router like this: [URL] in terms of ports. I have also used the Xbox's MAC address to give a static IP address via my router's DNS.
The Xbox can see both my main wireless SSID and my guest SSID but cannot connect to either.

I'am having problems when connecting to the internet. I'am running Win7 64-bit and i have Belkin USB wireless adapter( Belkin surf N150) When i first bought the adapter it didnt connect to internet, so i though it is not working and i got it replaced. I got the same problem with the second one as well, and then i have changed the wireless mode on the device manager from: IEEE 802.11b/g/n to: IEEE 802.11b and eventually i have connected to internet without any errors, but in this mode the internet is unbelievably slow which is very slow when compared to another wireless mode where i have changed it from. So my question is why i can't connect to internet IEEE 802.11b/g/n in this mode? The weird thing is that some times it connects to internet with no error and dissconnects again in a short while. Also when the windows tries to repair it, i get this report:
Windows Network Diagnostics Publisher details

I just hooked up my new Sony BDV-E570 Blu-ray home theater in a box. Everything looks great except it is not connecting to my WRT110 wireless router. Router is one level below where the home theater system is located, and signal strength appears good (4 bars) on the Blu-ray player, but it repeatedly says "connection failed" when I try to connect. The Wii is also in the same place and has no problems connecting wirelessly to the WRT110 router.

For quite some time my linksys wireless g notebook adapter hasn't been connecting to the Internet at all. I go to my Internet options and my house's Internet router doesn't show up. I remember a long time ago I was clearing space on my computer because its and old one and it runs slow Because I don't have much memory and I might have accidently deleted the linksis progam / installation. And I have no way of re-intalling it. I think the only way of re-installing it is using the linkage disc but I lost it in some boxes packed in storage.

Trying to connect my Dell Dimension E310 to my Linksys WRT54GS with a TRENDnet wireless N USB adapter. It sees the router, it connects, I show strong signal strength, but get a "limited connection or no connection" error back from the router...can't get on the Internet. If I use an Ethernet wire and connect it to the router, it can set up a wireless connection with the machine, I can unhook the hardwire, and I'm good to go. But every time I reboot, it won't connect unless I set it up with the hardwire first. Impractical. All other devices attached to the router are fine and connected to the Internet. How can I get the router to maintain the settings for this new connection so it will connect wirelessly when I reboot?

WRT610v2 running latest firmware.xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars.Connects to 2.4 network just fineWon't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not..If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.

I got this netbook from someone who claims that he is an apple guy and knows nothing about PCs, bought it for his daughter and never had any connection issues whatsoever. My older netbook and my laptop recognize my wireless connection but this one claims it can't renew the IP address and it's all zeroes.I am currently connected through an ethernet cable. My network adapters, an 802.11n wireless LAN card and an Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E ethernet controller have no warning triangles or red x's, although the DOS commands tell me I have disconnected media. I went to the ASUS website and downloaded some updates but am afraid to install anything without being 100% certain because the C drive, as on most older eeepcs, is nearly full and I load everything onto D. I've removed the old profile, unplugged and restarted the router. I've reset, rebooted and pinged. After my reboot, I saw a new error message box. The title bar read "RaUI Message" and the text read "Unable to support WiFi Direct feature".
So - cmd prompt results:

I have the 2wire Gateway modem to connect to the internet on my HP all-in-one desktop computer, which I bought a little over 3 years ago. Occasionally, the computer will show that the internet is disconnected, however the modem will have all it's lights flashing. After attempting several times to get to connect again, I called the support number, and they told me that I would either have to the ethernet cord hooked to the computer or purchase a network adapter. BUT my computer already had a network adapter installed in it before I even bought it, so I don't feel that I need to purchase one and I was able to get it to connect to the internet wireless by myself after hanging up. My question is how to keep my computer from wanting to disconnect from the wireless internet?

I am trying to connect wirelessly to my BT Home Hub via a USB Wireless adaptor. The homehub works perfectly and I have other laptops in the house connecting via the wireless networkHowever, this is the problem. The Wireless connection status shows as good but packets only being sent and not received. Therefore when I load Internet Explorer, I get WebPage Not availableI notice that my IP address is starts with 169 and researching forums suggests that this is the problem and it should start 192? I have tried all sorts of things but simply cannot get this resolved. If I plug the HomeHub into the laptop directly, the connection via the ethernet cable works fine.

New inspiron 14z would not connect to wireless home network. Area networks appeared, tried to connect to my network (entered password, etc.) and would attempt to connect, but could not. Solution - activate McAfee security center.Products - 2 day old Inspiron 14z (windows 7, intel wi-fi) & Netgear n300 (6 months old, connecting 2 yo inspiron 15, sony bluray, kindle fire, hp photosmart 3500 printer with no issues)
I checked router log in information, firmware updates, cable connections - all okay. So I called tech support and the first cutomer care rep adjusted the power saving settings to "Dell" (was turning off wi-fi adapter to save juice), but that didn't solve issue. He told me that it was probably an ISP/router issue. Eventually I spoke to three other reps and 2 supervisors and was consistently told issue was ISP and/or router. Crankily, I told the last customer care rep that if the issue wasn't resolved, I would return laptop, since everything else was working. (Not nice of me, but that's how I felt. I'm not about to spend an extra $100+ on a router when mine is working fine and my ISP service is fine.) So, that rep agreed to connect to both my new laptop and the older inspiron 15 to find any differences in settings. He then found a solution - McAfee security center. I had not activated it, because I prefer another product, and hadn't uninstalled it before calling. The rep activated it and voila, connectivity. Afterwards, I did uninstall mcafee and installed my preferred security product, and still have connectivity.

My desktops _usually_ connect, and then the connection will drop/go slow(14400 slow)/give that little yelow triangle on top of the wifi icon.First i had an edimax wifi PCI, now i have a trendnet wifi PCI. They both do the same thing. If i connect my HTC hero and start internet sharing, it works very well, and is stable. My ethernet works fine as well. It is like my computer is immune to PCI cards?I have tried with different wifi APs now, but its still the same.I have a zyxel adsl modem, and a linksys wifi AP hooked up to that. I noticed, that when my desktop is connected, the zyxel will get some kind of overflow from the linksys. It says "client reached max number of sessions per host" It's like my desktop is killing the network. I have tried many things. Drivers, fail safe, registry cleaner(I know), killing all unnescessary program, switching the PCI ports, but none of it seems to work.
I had my laptop running connectify (access point app) and it actually worked fine, but today it won't connect to that either.I'm going to create another partition on my harddrive, and install fresh windows 7 on that, and see if it does the same. But even if it doesn't I _want_ to find out what is causing this instabillity. When i try running the network diagnostics, it says DNS error, or that the router is fail. But my laptop works fine. Also, when doing speed tests, my laptop gets normal speeds, and my desktop is VERY slow DL, but normal UL ?In speed tests my desktop is very slow, but stable, but during the test, my laptop will first go like 2 mb/s - 3mb/s DL and suddently BURST up to like 64 mb/s although i only have 10 mbit line? It's like its buffering or something. Very weird behaviour, but working fine. And no, i do not have torrent programs or whatever running. Some says that i shout try and change wifi channel and bands, and avoid "mixed" mode, but none of it works. Always the same problem.ATM. my computer can't connect to any wifi at all. It keeps having the yellow triangle.

I am running Windows 7 with the WUSB600N (v.2). Here is how I got it to work. The driver support is not a .exe. You will have to install it yourself...but it's not a big deal.Download the Windows 7 driver for your OS version from the Linksys Support page.Save it to the desktop and then unzip it to the desktop so you can find it easier.Once unzipped you will see 3 folders: Mac, Win7 32 and Win7 64. Choose accordingly. What I did was install it through the "Device Manager". (Right click "My Computer", choose "Manage", then Device Manager",or use the "Search Bar under the Start Menu...whatever. Once you are in the Device Manager...
1. Make sure your WUSB600N is inserted in your computer.
2. Navigate down to "Network Adapters" If you see your WUSB600N adapter...great! Your halfway home!
3. Right click on the "Linksys WUSB600N Adapter.
4. Choose the option to " Update Driver Software"
5. Choose "Browse My Computer for Software"
6. Navigate to the desktop and choose the folder that contains the name of your Windows 7 platform.
7. It should update but, HOLD ON! We are not done yet!!!
In order for it to start transmitting in that shiny new 5GHZ band, you must go into "Network and Sharing Center". Once there, look on the left hand side of the main window and you will see "Change adapter settings"Go there. You should see here that your existing adapter is still working (enabled) and your new Linksys WUSB600N has a big fat red "X" under it (disabled).Right click on your existing adapter and choose, "DISABLE".Then, right click on the WUSB600N adapter and choose "ENABLE".The last thing you should have to do is choose the network you want to connect to (for me it was the 5GHZ one) ..and Viola!!
