Wireless Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server

Sep 19, 2011

One of our laptops won't connect to the internet via wireless, gives a "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (192.168.1.20)" error. It works fine when plugged in via ethernet, and all our other computers connect to wireless just fine.

The wireless is set to acquire DNS automatically in the TCP/IP IPv4 properties. I've tried to flush DNS, reset IPv4 and reset Winsock with no luck.

Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server (68.105.28.12)

Jun 18, 2012

I recently set up our new Cisco Linksys E1000 router (we originally had a Belkin, but it is dying). It works perfectly fine on my desktop. However, there is only a "local connection" on my mom's laptop, a Toshiba Satellite running Vista. Diagnosis: Cannot Communicate with Primary DNS Server (68.105.28.12). I've read a bunch of other posts on many websites but so far nothing has worked.

Windows Can't Communicate With DNS Server

Nov 30, 2011

My friend and I bought Acer Aspire 5741's about 9 months ago and neither of us has had any problems until now. My friend went to connect to the internet via wireless router yesterday to find that there was limited connectivity (no internet access). We assumed it was a router issue and I gave her a number of things to check but all seemed ok with it. I went to her house to look at it today and when I ran the connection troubleshooter got "windows can't communicate with.......... (DNS server)". I connected my laptop via her router and everything was fine. I brought her laptop back to my house and tried to connect to the internet via my router and got exactly the same 'DNS' message - my laptop again connected without any problem.

I have re-booted the routers, laptops, network adapters etc and also checked the wireless adapter settings on both laptops, which appear to be the same. I have re-set the TCP/IP stack and have also tried ipconfig /release and /renew - none of which seems to have made any difference. The results of ipconfig/all are:-

Can't Communicate With Primary DNS Server

Mar 24, 2011

Problem: No internet connection. 'Can't communicate with primary DNS server'Information: I am using a Windows 7 64 laptop (LAN connection) to connect to the internet. Two days ago this stopped working (after working fine for 3 months). Using windows troubleshoot I receive the message 'Can't communicate with primary DNS server'. I have checked the IPv4 and IPv6 and they are all set to automatic.I then tried to reset this using Microsoft 'fix it solution' as indicated Can't communicate with Primary DNS Server this still had no luck.I have also tried,

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

and ipconfig/ release and ipconfig/ renew none of this has made any difference. I can successfully ping the default gateway but cannot ping google. All packets time out.Additional information: Using an older laptop I am able to successfully connect to the internet on the same line. Also the laptop that is not working does work fine at work. So I don't even know if the problem is with the hub or the laptop.

Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server (194.168.4.100)

Apr 9, 2011

I'm having an absolute nightmare trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet. It will connect to our home network (virgin media cable broadband) locally but won't connect to the internet. I've tried a few of the fixes I've read on here such as changing the DNS settings myself but it's going nowhere.I can connect to other networks for example my parents virgin media network and the other laptops and my ps3 can all connect to our internet just fine so I really don't understand why mine isn't working. When I diagnose the problem it says "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (194.168.4.100)" and underneath it says "Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response"

Windows 7 - Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server

Dec 5, 2012

I'm having a bit of trouble connecting to the internet on my desktop. Basically, my desktop computer, running windows 7, wired connection via LAN, is having trouble connecting to the internet. It appears to be connected to the internet (all indicators are "green light"), but when I attempt to open a browser, for example, there is no response. After running a diagnosis, I found this: Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (Primary DNS server). The strange thing is that our apartment wireless network works just fine. I looked around on here for a solution, but all were entertaining laptops with wireless connections. My IPs are set to automatic as well.

Linksys WRT54G V.3 - Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server

Mar 13, 2011

Cable operator went down 5 days ago and we haven't been able to get internet through the router since. We got a replacement modem from the cable operator three days ago, but I haven't been able to get it working with the router.

Router - Linksys WRT54G v.3, Cable modem Cisco 2100 Cable Modem (Scientific Atlantic DPC 2100)

The modem works when directly connected to a computer, however, once connected to a computer, we cannot plug it into another computer without turning the modem off and on again (I don't remember ever having to do that). Also, the modem is supposed to be able to run ethernet on one computer and USB on another computer. We can get both initially, but as soon as you use one, the will not work. Below is an ipconfig/all

Network / IP Fail Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server

Sep 11, 2011

Me and my wife just moved into a new apartment and got subscribed to a new broadband provider. They sent us through a cisco router (model no.epc2425) and we created a WPA2-Personel secure network, with encryption type TKIP. I have connected my macbook to it, my iPhone to it, and my wifes samsung netbook (running Windows 7) but I cannot connect my laptop running vista to the internet. I've tried playing around with different network security and could connect to it on WEP but I didn't want to keep it on that and I couldn't connect the net-book. The rest of the security types and encryption types have the same response. The computer connects to the network with an excellent signal, but it is the only computer that cannot connect to the internet through this network. I never had a problem like this with this computer and have tried it on other networks. When I run windows network diagnostics it says 'Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (193.150.193.150)'Network diagnostics pinged the remote but did not receive a response.'

When I try to automatically get a new IP setting for network adapter it tries to repair but then says 'there still seems to be a problem with your connection'. Likewise when i click 'reset the network adapter' the repair leads back to cannot communicate with primary DNS server.I have tried a wired connection, router to computer, but as soon as I plug it in I get the message 'Windows has detected and IP address conflict' - and it once again connects to the network but not to the internet.I don't know if this makes any difference, but this is a British computer and I moved to Sweden, obviously using a Swedish ISP..i used to have this problem, you need to set the network adaptor to all automatic, your new cisco router uses uPnP so your IP conflict is probably a result of your unconnected laptop trying to connect to the same IP address as another PC on your network (eg/ 192.168.0.5 would be used by your iPhone, but your laptop has reserved that IP address for itself), to fix this, go to network and sharing center, navigate to adaptor settings on the left pane, right click the wireless card and choose properties>IPv4 properties, set everything to automatic, including all things in other tabs and click advanced and make sure DHCP is enabled on that card. Then reboot and try again.''I had a look at the wireless card (it's Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter) and on the IPv4 properties it's already on 'obtain and IP address automatically & obtain DNS server automatically' as well as 'automatic private IP address' in one of the tabs.

Dell Inspiron 1200 - Cannot Communicate With Primary DNS Server

Aug 21, 2012

I cannot currently connect to the internet on my Dell Inspiron 1200 Laptop running Windows Vista. This happened today after uninstalling Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4, although I have no idea why a network problem could be caused by a software removal. Both my wifes smart phone and my own work on the same connection from the Sky wireless router that distributes the signal but the Windows network diagram show an excellent local connection to the computer from the router and no connection at all to the internet. When I try to diagnose and fix through the Windows link, the following message is shown: "Cannot Communicate with Primary DNS Server (192.168.0.1). Network diagnostics pinged remote host but did not recieve a response." Windows has reset the network adapter for the wireless network connection but this does not repair the problem. The problem still exists.
