Internet Access Stopped - Other PC's On LAN Working OK / General Failure

Aug 19, 2012

I have a new Alienware X51 running Win 7. It's connected to a home LAN, both wired and wirelessly. For the prior two days internet connectivity has been fine. Today, the PC will not connect to the internet. The Network and Sharing center in control panel shows that the PC is connected to both the wireless network and the wired network, but with no internet connectivity. All other computers and devices in the house are able to connect to the internet. Tried restarts, virus scans, router power off/on, ipconfig /release and renew, all with no luck. When I try and ping other computers in the LAN or the router I get a "General Failure" message.

Can't Connect To Internet After Power Failure

Apr 18, 2012

I've got the power cut while PC was running (w7). After rebooting I'm not able to connect to the internet anymore.

In Device Manager, under Network Adapters there is a "Realtek PCIe GBE..." device properly installed. But under Other Devices there are now more entries with exclamation mark:

- Network controller
- Multimedia controller
- PCI Communication controller

I tried updating the drivers, then deleting and reinstalling but no success so far. Still can't connect to the internet. The browser can see the router, at I don't know where the problem is.

Video Stream And General Download Freeze?

Sep 19, 2012

I think there is a problem with the settings on my router or something like that. When I watch videos on streaming sites the load bar tends to go up but only so far before freezing. If you slide the button along once the umbrella spinny thing gets going then the load bar will kick back into life again for a few seconds before freezing! The problem also effects downloads. Anything that takes longer the 5 or 10 seconds will fail. This has stopped me downloading simple things such as iplayer and flash updates. I know its not a problem with my computer as it effects all the machines that pass through the house. Were currently getting Virgin wireless broadband (so I dont think its a speed issue).A tecky friend of mine thinks it might be something to do with the 'packets' of information or the channel that my router is operating on

Can't Connect To Internet - Get The Message Catastrophic Failure 0x8000ffff?

Dec 21, 2011

I am running 32 bit windows 7 on my mac with boot camp. Normally, all is fine, but for some reason I can't connect to the internet on windows 7, but I can on my Mac OS on the same computer. I ran troubleshoot, but it says it can't find any problems. I was connecting to my home network yesterday, but I couldn't get on the internet, however now I'm just stuck connecting to "Identifying...". I installed a game yesterday, and I'm thinking that could be the problem, but I can't uninstall it because I can't connect to Steam. I tried system restore, but I get the error message 0x80070001, and if i choose to press run system restore anyway, I get the message "Catastrophic failure 0x8000ffff". Everything is plugged in.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG120N / DIR 600 - Internet Connection Failure

Mar 23, 2012

I will just explain my setup:
I have a ADSL Huwavi modem by my ISP installed at my place.. Now the wireless from that device is very bad.. So I purchased WAG120N to setup a daisy-chain kind of setup in my other bedroom. I also put another D-link DIR-600 in between to give a connection to the first floor (via Ethernet cable).
So my huwavi is the ISP device, then a LAN from it goes to the dlink internet (WAN) port. then one cable from the d-link LAN port to the LAN1 of WAG120N and another upstairs.
Now all of this was working perfectly.. I put same SSIDs and Pwds on both ISP router and WAG120N and i was getting seamless net..
Now yesterday we removed the ISP modem to do some shifting.. Upon reconnecting, the ISP modem, Dlink work as before, but the WAG120N refuses to connect to the net.. it shows DSL down and doesn't access the www.
What I felt is that since i changed LAN ports on my ISP device and dlink, the static IP settings on the WAG120N should be changed.. i modified it, set to to point to the dlink for internet and huwavie for DHCP.. yet nothings happening..
I even connected the WAG120N directly to the Huwavie, yet it fails to connect to the net..

Cisco :: Switch Port General Allowed Vlan 2 For Admin And 10 For LAN?

Sep 22, 2012

Me and my friend is currently setting up a Xen test environment. As you can se from the picture below we are running a Cisco ASA 5505 to reach the network from the outside. But the problem is that we want to reach the virtual pfSense's subnet's through the Cisco AnyConnect VPN. And currently the pfSense's are only configured with a public ip and a virtual interface to the VM's.could solve this problem by buying another PCI NIC, so that we have a physical link from the "pfSense box" to a tagged VLAN on the switch. But we are having problems configuring the switch to general vlan's. Cause Xen can't have it's management interface on a tagged VLAN directly from the XenServer, but the switch can tag the packet when it reaches the switchport. I would like to have "switch port general allowed vlan 2" for admin and 10 for "LAN"And then trunk the port to the Cisco ASA. But again, Xen stops me from doing this.

Cisco Wireless :: 1200 General Approach To Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Disconnects

Sep 28, 2010

For years I have received occasional complaints about users being dropped from WiF and then reconnecting like a minute or two later. I wondered what tools people on the Forum used to troubleshoot this transient problem.  Cisco APs like the 1200 don't seem to inform about why someone left. One thing that has been very useful over time is using Network Sumbler to see what WAPs are in a vicinity and make sure there is not channel overlap. How to troubleshoot transient wireless network drops?

- A WLC (except 5500) does not consume a license but only the Lightweight APs.
- An autonomous AP does not consumes a Lifecycle licence ?

VPN Connection Dies When Not Constantly Pinging

Jul 2, 2011

I will be moving away from my home computer but will still want access to it so I am trying to set up a VPN between it (home computer is windows 7) and my fedora 15 machine. They are currently on the same network so I'm wondering if that may be the cause for my troubles.

Here's my setup:

Fedora 15 ( is running the PPTP server with pptpd and gives to any vpn client that connects to it./etc/pptpd.conf only has "localip" and "remoteip" options in it /etc/ppp/options.pptpd has "refuse-pap, refuse-chap, refuse-mschap, require-mschap-v2, require-mppe-128, proxyarp, lock, nobsdcomp, novj, novjccomp, nologfd, debug, dump" options Windows 7 (, is the client and I have it set to use connect to the public IP address of my router, PPTP, require encryption, only allow mschap-v2, don't use gateway in ipv4 properties. Both machines are connected to the same Belkin router ( and I can ping locally to and from each computer no problem. The problem is my VPN connection is very inconsistent. I will open a ftp connection to from, login, start uploading a file, get about 10MB uploaded, and then the VPN connection will die and the upload will fail. But, when I have "ping" running while uploading, the connection stays alive.
