Linksys Wired Router :: First And Second Location RV042 - VPN Tunnel Configuration?

Jan 14, 2011

Setup is two dynamic IP locations

1. first location RV042 is the gateway attached to ADSL modem

2. second location RV042 is behind BT home hub gateway - for now the BTHH DMZ is enabled to the RV042
Followed the user manual config for two dynamic IP but it seems that the RV042 behind the BTHH obviously has a different IP than the resolved IP and is causing problems with connection.

This from the log file:
Jan 14 15:04:16 2011    VPN Log   Received Vendor ID payload Type = [Dead Peer Detection]
Jan 14 15:04:16 2011    VPN Log   [Tunnel Negotiation Info] <<< Responder Received Aggressive Mode 1st packet
Jan 14 15:04:16 2011    VPN Log   Aggressive mode peer ID is ID_IPV4_ADDR: ''
Jan 14 15:04:16 2011    VPN Log   No suitable connection for peer '', Please check Phase 1 ID value
Jan 14 15:04:16 2011    VPN Log   initial Aggressive Mode packet claiming to be from on

But no connection has been authorized, check peer ID Is there some way of making the RV042 behind the BTHH properly identifiable to the other end?

Linksys Wired Router :: After VPN Starts / Lose Access To RV042

Jun 2, 2011

I have a RV042:Firmware Version : v4.0.0.07-tm (Aug 19 2010 19:19:50)PID VID : RV042 V03 .Configured with a internal LAN address ( and ISP PPPoE External address on WAN1.I´ve configured a VPN with a remote location (Fortigate 4) and after the VPN starts up the RV042 cannot ping any machine in their local network (using the diagnostic, all pings failed in and no machines in that network can PING and access or manage the RV042
The only way to manage the RV042 after VPN starts UP is using a machine in the other side of the VPN (The Main office)If i force the VPN down, the connectivity begins to work, but as soon the VPN starts up again, the local/LAN connectivity loses again.

Linksys Wired Router :: RV082 ICMP And HTTPS - Computers Only Can Navigate Through HTTP Web Pages?

Oct 21, 2012

Let's see if you can with this one:
DSL Internet Router (Dynamic IP) -> Linksys RV082 -> Firewall PC -> LAN
DSL Internet Router:
Linksys RV082 WAN2:
Linksys RV082 LAN:
Firewall (2 Nics): Nic1 is and Nic2 is
RV082 WAN 2: Configured with a DHCP IP Address from DSL Internet Router so it has range IP.
Load Balancing enabled
Static Route added on RV082: mask gateway 192.168.5.x interface LAN
Firewall PC is completely Open as i was using it before.
I had a Fortgate 60B and everything worked fine, then a bought a RV082 and now i can get this up and running properly. The thing is this....whit the actual setup i have, computers only can navigate through HTTP web pages, other ports seem to be closed, but if the Firewall PC was blocking this i guess i'll know because it shows a message on screen when a policy is being applied. If i try to open HTTPS Pages it doesnt work, Even a simple pinng to doesn't work from my LAN (, but if i connect a computer on a local port on RV082 i can PING and i can browse anywere i want.
It seems to be that Firewall PC is causing problems but i execute a tracert to [url]...., the packet get stuck in the RV082.What im thinking is that maybe the RV082 doesn't allow to go trhu at all if the traffic comes from other networks that doesn't belong to the one configured on its LAN side.By the way the Firewall PC connected to the RV082 directly navigates perfectly.
PS. The reason im using Firewall PC is because that way is much easier and flexible to handle policies for Internal users than in the RV082 Router. I use this ume basically to set up VPN IPSEC and Dual WAN Load Balancing.

Cisco VPN :: PPTP Tunnel To Linksys RV042 Not Working Through 2620 Router

Jan 9, 2012

I have a remote location that has a Linksys/Cisco RV042 router [URL] that allows PPTP connections based on username and password combinations. There are no intermediary routers between this device and the internet - only a DSL modem. A secondary WAN connection is not present.
I am able to dial into this VPN using the Windows XP and Windows 7 dialers from any of my local free-wifi locations(e.g. Starbucks). I WAS able to connect to this VPN connection from my house when my home router was a Buffalo brand router.
I have replaced the Buffalo router with a 2620(non-XM) that is connected in ROaS fashion to a 2950 switch. I need some guidance on what in my config is not allowing me to connect to this remote site.
Home network info: Local subnets : 192.168.x.x
Remote network info: Local subnet : 10.214.x.x
The Windows XP dialer client indicates that the username and password challenge is where the connection fails. It ultimately gives me the error code 619. I have performed a Wireshark packet capture of an attempt to connect from ip This packet capture shows multiple "Configuration Request" packets being exchanged between the two endpoints, but does not ever show an exchange of authentication.
My nat translation table shows an entry for both a GRE tunnel as well as port 1723 between and the WAN port of the RV042 when attempting to establish this VPN.
I have attached my 2620 configuration for your review.

Linksys Wired Router :: OWA Through RV042 With VPN Running

Mar 24, 2012

We have 3 Cisco RV042. These were purchased to permit VPN from two branch offices to our head office. VPN is required to permit the two branch offices to use Avaya IP phones to connect to our main head office switchboard. We also have users on Blackberry and Apple iPhones to collect their mail through OWA from our Exchange 2010 server.
I've noticed in one of your threads that the RV042 routers configured for VPN do not permit the use of HTTPS to connect to OWA and that seems to be the problem for us. Since installing the VPN our OWA access is not possible.
What can I do to resolve this problem and what router would you suggest that I could use at the head office to enable the two branches to connect VPN to head office? And if there is a suitable router, would I need to replace all three?

Linksys Wired Router :: DHCP Setup On RV042?

Mar 16, 2011

We have a Network set up with a RV042 router. Router is hooked up to Cox Cable and ATT DSL. Currently have 20 computers hooked up to the router all using Static IP addresses. Setup has been in place for over 7 years. I want to set up a Wireless Access point on this network. The problem is, I can't seem to get DHCP to work right even WITHOUT the Wireless Access Point. I have taken one of the computers that works great with a static IP and changed it to be DHCP, I have enabled DHCP on the router and set the from and thru parameters for the IP assignment. The computer will connect and get an IP address and it allows me to see all the INTERNAL servers on the network but going to the Internet is REAL FLAKY. I usually have to refresh 5 or 6 times to get a web page and sometimes even that don't work. If I do get a page to come up there is about a 10% chance that it will bring up a subpage of that page without doing a refresh 5 or 6 times. Its like it won't hold the connection to the Internet. I did notice one thing different in the User Manual of the RV042 that is different than all the other Linksys routers I have worked with. It says that when you enable the DHCP on the router, you then make sure ALL computers hooked to it are set for DHCP. All other routers I have worked with do NOT use that word ALL. Am I missing some setting or is this a binding thing where you are either ALL static or ALL DHCP?

We don't want to take away our exisring setup, but would like to bridge both networks so a few of our internal clients can connect to our CCTV network and use some of the devices. Right now they come in on VPN but its not as fast.Is this doable without adding additional hardware? Both networks need DHCP enable as well.

Linksys Wired Router :: Getting RV042 And RV082 Throughput?

Feb 17, 2008

I am currently using Netgear FVS338 Routers / VPN Devices in 3 different locations and honestly I am not happy / impressed with them whatsoever.I have been doing some research and came across the Linksys RV042 and RV082 devices that caught my eye. The question is what is the VPN throughput of these devices?I have gone over the website, spec sheets and they only really say the throughput of the LAN Links and not the WAN Links. I currently have very reliable 20Mb+ Synchronous connections between all 3 sites and have not been able to get any good performance out of the Netgear devices and contacting their support is a joke. They can't tell you anything other than it should work or we will swap out the unit. Well if I have 3 of them that have been purchased at all different times I don't believe that they are all having the same issues. What these units 3DES VPN Throughput and will more than likely be purchasing 3 of which ever once suits our needs immediately.
