Laptop Will Not Connect To Wifi / Cannot Renew Ip Address
Jan 27, 2012
I purchased this pocket wifi last year and I use it with my iPad and used to use it with my current LAPTOP. It still connects to the iPad, but will not connect to the Laptop anymore, the laptop says it cannot renew IP address.
Laptop suddenly not connecting to Internet. Have tried clicking repair but no luck. Totally lost now - just keeps saying unable to IP address. Wireless network connection msg says limited or no connectivity... IP address says 169.254.98.210- nothing under default gateway.
I have not been able to connect to the wireless connection. I have had some trouble with this in the past when booting up, but usually I can manually select our wireless network on my own and it works fine. But since last week, I have not been able to connect at all. On the Wireless Connection Status, it showed Limited or No connectivity. I tried the repair button in the Wireless Network Connection Status Support tab, and that told me that I cannot connect because I could not renew my IP address.I have tried a few different things, such as doing an ipconfig /release and /renew. Schools coming up, and itd be nice to have internet access on the laptop as well as our desktop.
My computer stopped connecting a few days ago. It had been working great until then. I have two other computers in the same wireless environment and they are working great. I've done all the preliminary checks and had all the settings checked by Comcast (my internet provider) but they were not able to evaluate the problem without cost. I've been unemployed for the last two years so I need to find another option to correct this issue. Every time I attempt to connect, windows says that they are unable to renew the IP address. Limited or no connectivity is shown. I've also noticed that If I leave the home where I'm trying to connect, I'm able to connect to outside sources like Wayport or any other network without any problem. My router is a Linksys Model #WRT320N. It's working just fine with the other computers in the house. I tried cleaning out all my "preferred networks" in the wireless Network Connection Properties but that didn't work either.
I have just moved my desktop to another house and now I cannot access the Internet. I have a USB adapter which has connected to the hub and has an excellent connection but it keeps trying to aquire network address. Then stops and starts again.
I lost connection for a moment on my computer last Sunday, it connects with a very strong signal but doesn't renew the IP address. I tried Run>cmd>/release>/renew and got a message saying something like "Cannot contact your DHCP server" (something like that anyways)
i'm running xp sp3, but it is not completely updated. (i was offline for about 8 months and missed tons of updates, still slowly getting things up to date but not there yet.) i install new programs all the time, but none that seem to coincide with this particular problem.
starting a few days ago, my internet randomly goes out. when i try to "repair" my connection through network connections, it says windows cannot renew the ip address. going to command prompt and trying ipconfig/release or ipconfig/renew gives a message about RPC not available. however, a simple reboot fixes everything. for a few hours or so.
i haven't been able to pinpoint exactly when the problem occurs. i often leave utorrent and peerblock running when i go to work - no other programs running - this is what first alerted me to the problem, coming home to find that at some point my internet went down and downloads didn't finish. just this evening i was surfing the web, watching youtube videos, when suddenly my connection went out. this time, only firefox was running, so not a problem with utorrent or peerblock. something else is causing the problem.
Since last week, I have not been able to connect to the internet. I have had some trouble with this in the past when booting up, but usually I can manually select our wireless network on my own and it works fine. But since last week, I have not been able to connect at all. On the Wireless Connection Status, it showed Limited or No connectivity. I tried the repair button in the Wireless Network Connection Status Support tab, and that told me that I cannot connect because I could not renew my IP address.
Problem connecting to my girlfriends internet connection, just tried connecting for the first time and came across this limited or no connectivity message, using the cmd/renew IP address method did nothing and have no errors regarding any network adapters under the device manager. After doing the IPCONFIG /all function I get the following:
Windows IP configuration:
----Host name-----------: Steven-2720dfbd (This is my home host name so should have changed?) ---Primary Dns suffix-----: ---Mode Type------------: Unknown ---IP Routing Enabled----: No ---WINS Proxy Enabled---: No
I have two computers - one that is a newer mac with no problems getting on to the wireless home network (from which I'm posting). The other is an older Dell desktop running XP and using a wireless card. I'm trying to setup the desktop on a new network (has worked on other home networks in the past) and I keep getting the "Limited or No Connectivity" and the network repair fails because it can't renew the IP address. In the IP config, I'm getting the default 169.254.x.y.
I'm trying to go wireless with a desktop PC running Windows XP SP2. I've got a 2WIRE router which works fine when plugged into the computer via an ethernet cable. I purchased a Netgear N300 Wireless USB adapter and installed it - it seems to be working fine.
The trouble is that my wireless connection shows "limited or no connectivity," although the signal strength is "very good." When I try to repair the connection, it tells me that I could not be assigned an IP address.
At the moment I'm working via the Ethernet cable with no difficulty. why the wired connection works but the wireless (from the same router) doesn't, even though it should?
I use this computer at work and at home on wireless network. At work it has been fine but at home I sometimes get the "Limited or no conectivity" message. I have not tried any solutions yet as it usually goes away if I reboot and if that does not do it taking it to work (where it works FINE) and then back home ususlly fixes the problem. Last night I was able to go online and google something but when I clicked on a link it did nothing for several minutes and THEN told me I had 'Limited or no conectivity' where just a few minutes before I was 'connected' signal strength 'excellent'. When I click on 'repair connection' it tells me it can not renew IP address. As stated I have not tried anything, changed anything, and there is no one else using computers on the network
My Dell laptop will no longer connect to the internet and the issue I'm receiving is:
"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following could not be completed: Renewing your IP Address"
I've run multiple scans on the computer with 3 different programs so have determined it does not appear to be any sort of malware issue but either a windows issue or hardware issue? When this first occurred I performed all the usual steps for repairing the connection, rebooting the router/modem, running IP config to make sure it was even showing up, direct connecting to the router, malware scans, removing dead networks from the auto-connect list, checking TCP/IP properties, checking ipconfig, looking at router settings to make sure nothing is turned off, all to no avail.
I don't know if I missed anything in the areas I looked at, or if I am just looking in all the wrong places. The computer is a Dell Inspiron E1705 with XP Media Center Edition version 2002, Service Pack 3.
I randomly lost Internet connection, and since have not been able to Renew an IP address! Other people in my household can connect just fine. I've tried numerous things to get my internet back, but continue to be unsuccessful in doing so.

I'm visiting family and my laptop will not connect to their wireless. I plugged it in and it connected, but wireless will not. I've tried to renew my ip but it tells me media is disconnected. How do I connect the media? I'm in the device mgr now, looking at network adapters. have yellow !! on Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #5. I opened it and there is no "value" for Network address. I've got Acer Aspire 5520, w/SP2, 2.00GB, 32-bit,AMD Turion 64 X2 1.80 GHz. Windows Vista Home Premium. message rec'd is "No operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media disconnected."
we have one mac, ipad, phones and one win 7 laptopinternet on that laptop Im using is horrendous. I am positive the problem is due to Ip conflict because recently I started getting the message about it,URL.
I'm using a 2wire 2701HG-B wireless router/dsl modem combo. My computer is a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. The router/modem has been reliable for the last 2 years.. hardly ever needing a reset, reboot, or anything. Then all of a sudden my wifi network didn't show up anymore. I did a reboot, nothing. Kind of weird so I got on the phone with AT&T and they walked me through some simple stuff and they determined it's either the router or my computer. Well I know it's not the computer, I can use the mobile hotspot on my android phone and it gets on just fine. All of the lights on the router are green, AT&T showed that all the tests show the internet connection is working. Since the router is not sending out a wifi signal anymore, I had to plug the ethernet cable in. The system recognizes a connection but says it isn't connected because it is a "public" connection. Additionally, if I go to network connections with the cable plugged in, I can see my DirecTV DVR is showing on the network (because it is connected to the router via ethernet too). So it isn't broadcasting wifi, I can see my DVR over the network in windows, but I can't get the IP renewed.
When I try to do an ipconfig /renew, it says this:Windows IP Configuration An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The operation was canceled by the user.An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system cannot find the file specified. The AT&T rep said I may need a new modem and router. It seems weird because it worked fine one night, then the next night all of a sudden it didn't work.
After an indeterminate period my E4200 (firmware version 1.0.03) stops renewing the Internet IP address. This happens in both router mode and bridge mode.In router mode the E4200 is set for DHCP and connected to the cable modem, in bridge mode it is connected to a Dell switch with DHCP being provided by my Win2008R2 server. It appears that the device stops recognizing the existence of the Internet port - no lights come on when a cable is plugged in - whether connected to the cable modem or my Dell switch. Plugging the same cable into one of the 4 lan ports and that port lights up immediately (i.e. it is not a patch cable problem). If the E4200 is left switched off for some time (possibly days) it will work properly again for a while.
A few days ago the internet on my desktop was working fine. now it has the 'limited or no connectivity' sign on it and i have done a few things to try and fix this. I started by trying a simple repair. it comes up with 'the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address' This lead me to try and restart my PC and router with no luck.
I then decided to look a bit further into it and went ito CMD and flushed the DNS. i then did 'ipconfig /release' which generated the response 'IP address for adapter wireless connection 9 has allready been released'. I then did 'ipconfig /renew' to which it generated an interestin response:
'An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection 9 : The RPC server is unavailable'
I have made sure my DNS client is on automatic, alont with my RPC (this was uneditable). Its not a router problem as i have had multiple devices connected before and my laptop is working just fine connecting wirelessly.
My old laptop(packard bell) stopped connecting to wifi. it says something like "only local connection", i had problem with that before, but it dissapeared when i restarted the laptop. now i really cant do anything, i tried to connect to other networks but it wont, and restarted it like 4 times...i have an old belkin router(5 yrs or something) and the laptop is 4-5. its a vista.
I am at my friend's house and she cannot connect her Acer laptop to the her own wifi (netgear router). Her iPad and my laptop (lenovo) both can connect to the wifi. This would lead me to believe that the issue is with her computer but her computer can connect to other wifis in the area...just not her own. I am not sure what is causing this...it may be that program "Acer eNet Management" but that still doesn't explain why she can connect to other wifis and not her own. Is there maybe a compatability issue with netgear and her wifi card?
I have a new laptop that I have had about 2 weeks at first I could connect to the net through wifi but now I cant it comes up that the page like 'google' 'yahoo' can not b found but if I connect up my Ethernet cable it will connect to the net
I have a acer laptop and a netgear dgn1000. i can connect wifi to other divices just not my laptop. it work fine with ethernet. i have clicked the enable button so it isnt checked and a few other things from the internet but nothing works.
I have a Dell Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) laptop that I've had for maybe half a month. When I first got it, I had no problems connecting to my router. But starting a couple days ago, the WiFi would not connect properly. I have to use the troubleshoot feature a couple times on my computer for it to work. My other laptops and other devices have no problems connecting to my network.
Here is the ipconfig for when it does work: Quote:

I have been atte;ting to connect to m home wifii but all it says is "cannot connect" I can see the connection then once i attempy to connect it disappears and i must restart to try again. I tried turning wifii off and on again on the laptop.I checked the password on another device and I am entering it correctly. Ive reset the IP address and reset the router.
I am attempting to connect to a residential wireless network on a router that was installed up by an engineer this morning. When the engineer was here he connected an HP laptop using XP to the wireless router. At first there was an issue with the connection (seemingly the same error message I am getting now), he did something to the wireless settings on the laptop, which stupidly I didn't see, and it successfully connected. When I attempted to connect my laptop to the same wireless router I got the same error message:'Connection Unsuccessful'.I clicked Diagnose Problem and got this: 'This computer has got limited or no connectivity'.I first selected the 'Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter' but this didn't solve the problem. I then viewed the Wireless Network Security Settings and as far as I can see they are identical to those on the HP laptop that has successfully connected: [code] I then connected my laptop to the router using the ADSL cable and was able to connect to the internet, but I am still unable to get a wireless connection. When I view the wireless connections I am 'Connected With Limited Access'.
I have an Acer 5741Z laptop that I recently got out of the shop (had jack replaced). Now I'm having issues connecting to the internet at my home. The computer detects my Belkin router/network, but when I click on Connect I keep getting the message "unable to connect".
I have Asus laptop that will not connect to the internet. It finds wireless networks and will not connect. It keeps saying identifying network and then says unsucessful. It was working fine and then just stopped working and will not reconnect.
