May 27, 2011I've searched the forums and found similar problems that relate to mine but after trying done of their solutions with no success I decided to make a new thread. This problem started 2 days ago with the same network I've been using for about 2 months.I'm running vista sp 1. I use google chrome and when I try to open a page it says unable to connect to proxy server. I changed the lan setting s (unchecked the box for using a proxy server for my lan) and now the page says the dns lookup failed.

Dec 11, 2011I got this message on my laptop, complete with the little yellow triangle hovering over my little internet icon at the bottom of my screen. The weird part is that my desktop computer and my mom's laptop (both of which are using wireless from the same router) can both successfully connect.I'm using my mom's laptop to type this. I tried unplugging the router and plugging it back in and it didn't work my laptop still won't connect.Here's a few of the facts:
- coincides with a recent installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2, which I have not done.
- I'm using Windows 7, just FYI
- My big desktop computer already has an Ethernet cable connecting its built-in modem directly to the router. Someone on another site suggested using an Ethernet cable to connect my laptop directly to the router, but my laptop is a little bit of a junkpile and doesn't have anywhere to plug one in.
- When running Windows Network Diagnostic it tells me that there's a "problem with the wireless adapter or access point" which would be the router. I've tried resetting the router, but it didn't work.
when I was running a virus scan on my laptop. About halfway through the scan it had picked up 3 infected objects. I was using a different computer while I waited for the scan to finish and when I came back in my laptop had mysteriously shut itself down. I rebooted it and got the whole "Windows was not properly shut down" thing with the options to restart in Safe Mode and such. I just restarted it regularly and when I got back on that's when I noticed that I had no internet. I re-ran the virus scan and got rid of all of them. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my lack of internet, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

Jan 15, 2011I recently added a new laptop to my network and it will only connect wirelessly for short periods of time and then it says limited connectivity. I had this problem with the old laptop and got it fixed but it was running windows xp and this one runs windows 7.

Dec 20, 2011This afternoon the computer crashed. It restarted normally, however will not connect to the internet. Upon start up, icon states it is connected but will not connect to the internet. When attmpting to Repair connection, Windows is then unable to fix the problem. All other devices work normally on the home network (Laptop, Xbox360).
I have also tried 3 different Restore points, but Windows states it is unable to restore to this point and to select another Restore point on each attempt.
I am running Windows XP SP3 on a Dell XPS

Oct 26, 2012so the problem started with the normal limited connectivity, i was given the laptop and tried to rectify the problem using ip resets renew, release, ipvc reset, winsock reset and it wouldnt budge,if i leave the ipv4 settings to automatic it will not display the ssid of the router, it will connect to it but display unidentified network, if i enter the ip address dns e.t.c then it will display the router but it will still not connect to the internet, i have tried updating drivers, removing all drivers and letting windows rediscover and install driver.i have also tried installing an internet dongle, the laptop will pickup the dongle, install the software but then display no connection.
I then tried installing a belkin wirless adapter but since the software is only up to vista i dont believe it has worked. ( everything installed ok but still will not connect to the internet) i am also finding out that it is not getting proxy details either. and on occasions i will get limited connectivity or the adapter will refuse to connect to the router.i have run xirrus wifi inspector on both my laptop (working) and his laptop (not working)the signal strength runs from about -44db too -50db which is strong enough but the automatic ip address differ alot according too xirrus these are the results

Dec 22, 2011i have factory reset my Toshiba laptop un clicked ipv6 but a setting in vista only gives me local or limited connectivity and im unable to access the internet and my other Toshiba laptop allows me full access along with my phone allows full access to the wireless network therefore tells me the router is not the cause?

Oct 14, 2012I am currently in Thailand and I have been using dozens of different wifi connections around Australia and South-east Asia without a problem for the last year. I moved into a new place yesterday and when I tried to connect, it has the little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, over the wireless symbol on the taskbar. I tried the troubleshooter but it says turn the modem off an on, I don't think I can do this, I'll try and ask reception but I doubt they will let me.
No-one else at this place I am staying has had the same problem as me. The signal strength is "excellent", the wifi password is correct. I have windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron.
I am at my old place now, where the internet works. I downloaded the internet test thing from one of the stickies, I'll go and do that at my new place and post the results soon.

Sep 15, 2012Before two months i bought a brand new laptop Toshiba Satellite c855-12t.I'm connecting via wireless to my home router D-link di 524.After some time the internet stops without a reason and the icon shows limited connectivity.When i unplug the router from power and plug it again the internet works fine for some time and then goes to limited again.I've updated my wireless drivers,tried changing router's channel,turned off power management option for saving battery but the problem still persists. I also have a desktop computer which is connected to the same router via usb wireless adapter and there everything works fine.

Jan 16, 2011I have an older PC using cable internet to connect. It works fine. There is no router, no other PCs, no network.I built a new PC. I installed WinXP Pro SP2 from a USB drive. I also installed the latest version of the mobo drivers including those for the Realtek NIC. When I swap the cat5 cable from that goes between the cable modem and my old PC to the new PC, the new PC does not connect to the internet. After a reboot the IP address is a 169.254.x.y address. To cut a long story short, it's a bunch of XP SP2 and SP3 machines with only some of them having these issues. The network consists of two switches and one router with integrated modem and wireless. Internet access is established over that router/ ADSL modem.I have drawn out all the cabling and made all the connections myself, I don't doubt network related hardware one bit. I need to add a new pc to the network and here is where the problem starts.I have a cable from a HUB in that office which has a splitter 1 way goes to a PC the other is empty. At first i tried connecting the other PC from that splitter but i get the Limited or no Connectivity message on both PCs. If i connect only one of them to the splitter the connection works fine.Now i tried with a HUB, made a Crossover cable from the splitter to the HUB in the WAN port, same deal both PCs get Limited ot no Connectivity. THe strange thing is that if i connect only one via the HUB the same thing happens.I am really out of ideas, my only option left is to connect the PC from the main HUB which means allot of cable posing.

I installed xp in it because I don't have any wireless network adapters that work with linux or Windows 7.I am using an old Linksys WUSB11 Ver 2.6. USB adapter.The computer does have connectivity if I plug in an ethernet cord from the router. Worked fine, fast, was able to install Sp3, etc.I can't get the wireless to work. I get excellent connection strength, but can't actually do anything with it.Since this is XP and I haven't messed around with XP network settings for years, I think I got a bit rusty and spoiled with Windows 7.

Oct 23, 2012My desktop PC ran Vista Home Premium and about over a year ago, suddenly developed the dreaded, 'Limited Availability' connection error when I tried to connect via ethernet cable to my D-Link dir 615 router.I have tried all possibilities (detailed in the other forums I have posted this issue in), like all the ipconfig commands in the CMD prompt, rebooted modem and router and pc but still getting this issue. [codde] As you can see - the Belkin wifi dongle connects fine, with an IP address of 192.168.0.101, however, the SiS191 ethernet controller (which has current and up to date drivers) refuses to connect and gives an IP of 169.254.241.0.I have also tried copying the settings from the wifi dongle and manually entering them for the ethernet connection but this also does not work..I don't think its an issue with my router as I also have a laptop, connected via ethernet, which works fine. Also have 2 iPhones, 1 iPod, 1 iPad, Xbox and Wii which ALL connect to the same router (via wifi) without any issues.

Jul 12, 2011Okay so I have a dual boot computer(windows xp3 and Linux Ubuntu). The Ubuntu wireless works so that means my hardware actually works, but my windows xp doesn't connect. First I have the xp3 so my recovery disk from Toshiba some of the stuff is outdated. I installed intel chip-set, intel proset(my wireless) , wireless LAN, oh the stuff that have to do with wireless and still doesn't work. This is what happens, proset finds the router tries to connect and it says limited. I tried repairing it but nothing works. P.S. the stuff that are outdated are like the QFE ( those are a lot of files in my Toshiba recovery and every time i try to install them they don't work they say that the system I am using is better than the stuff i am trying to install)(QFE is also just the name in front of the file and there is at least 25+ , don't know why it is QFE)

Dec 11, 2011I recently moved into a new apartment and when I connect to the router using the wireless. I get limited connectivity, it accepts the security key but can not get the internet. Connect wirelessly to another router within range and can connect to the internet via that. Also if I connect a ethernet cable to the router it gives me internet access. I couldn't see any settings in the routers menu that would prevent me from connecting(but im probably being blind).
Two other guys I'm sharing the apartment with can connect to the internet wirelessly with no issues. The router is a Thomson TWG870UIR.
