Broadband :: XP Slow Download Speed?
Feb 25, 2012I have a Mac and a PC in my home wireless network. ATT Uverse provides me with 16 MB/s internet access. I use the ATT wireless modem/router.With the Mac my download speed is almost 16 MB/s so everything seems working well.With my PC (WIN XP) the download speed is limited to less than 6 MB/s. I know that there is a way to allow my PC to speed up but I do not know how.

I went as far as buying a new router, which like the original post stated, worked well for a few and then stopped. It's frustrating because I need the wireless connection for many items I use at home.

Jan 16, 2013I am experiencing strange problem about slowing down the internet speed after downloading is stopped in between. I then have reboot the desktop to regain the speed.
My networking as below:
DSL Modem
Dlink DIR-655 Router
Desktop A (Wired Network)
Desktop B (Wired Network)
Laptop (Wireless Network)
If I am downloading a file (1gb) on Desktop A and for some reason I have to stop it, then internet connection is desktop A , desktop B and laptop is almost killed. To get the speed back, I need to reboot Desktop A. All computers are on Windows 7.
If completely download the file, the internet speed is good on all the computers. Before downloading the speed is: After stopping the download the speed is :

Mar 1, 2010I'm currently subscribed to Comcast's 22/5 Internet service. Internet upload speeds on both wired and wireless are about the same at ~ 5 Mbps. Wireless download speeds range from .5-3 Mbps. Wired or Wireless, I receive LAN speeds of ~32 Mbps or 3-4 MB/s. The noticeable issue is wireless internet download speed. I have tried every configuration possible with my router, updated drivers on devices, firmware and tested everything I could on all PCs, and even used the XBOX 360's media extender network tuning feature as a tool in my investigation to find this bottleneck. All reports point to internet download speed. Again, general LAN and internet upload speeds relatively meet expectations. The wired download speeds are slow at times, but consistently meet expectations.

Wifi
A4 1.33NA
WPA2 Only - Personal
802.11 Mode : 802.11n only
Channel Width : 40MHz

Since I've gotten it turned on in my new apartment it's been randomly DCing, I had a tech come out and tell me it was because I'm too far from the central office(thought I'm only a mile from the office?) and I needed to call and get my mbps reduced from 10, to 5. So, I called and did that and I was still having the same issue. Today another tech came out, told me the same thing, but I needed to be reduced to 3, and left. I called and got it reduced again. They said it should be 3-5 and I was at 5-7. So, now my download speed is actually higher than it was when I was 5-7(it was at 3 mbps usually, now it's 5), but my ping has doubled. Pages are taking longer to load, and when I play any games online there's a noticeable delay. I have been DCing less often, but it's still happening.

I've noticed a significant drop in wireless speed on my network compared to my previous laptop, a Sony VAIO, which runs on Windows Vista. If I plug my computer directly into my cable modem, I get 24.98 Mbps every time.
Using the same speed test, if I go through the DIR-655 I get rates from 2.92 to 10 Mbps.
I'm on Firmware 1.32NA. I'm ready to go out and buy a different brand Router.

Sep 1, 2012When connected to my router on my main desktop, I get download speeds of about .3-.85 mbps, I have comcast and a linksys N router, as well as a N wireless adapter in my desktop. If I use my laptop, I get around 10 mbps download speed, (Speeds are as of [URL]) but they still remain at .3 mbps on my desktop. I have tried two different wireless adapters in my computer. One is the Linksys AE2500 Dual Band N adapter, and the other is an ASUS N13 N Adapter. I have gotten the latest drivers of both adapters, but speeds stayed very low. When I connected the computer via ethernet cable, it ran at 16mbps. So I think that something must be wrong with some wireless settings, since I've tried 2 different adapters and was getting the same result, unless both were faulty I suppose. I also don't think it's my router's issue, because the wireless is working great on other wireless devices. I am using windows 7 on the desktop.
