I have FWSM v4.0 installed on Cisco 7609 router and when I want to configure FWSM services on it, VLAN traffic is not passing through the FWSM or not Reaching upto fwsm
View 1 RepliesI have two 7609S routers each with a FWSM running 4.0( 8). I am licensed for 20 contexts.
Recently, I added a context for a new application and required access to a VLAN that already had an interface in another context.
The MAC address assigned to the interface in the new context was assigned the same MAC address as the interface in the previous context. This caused an application running through the first context to fail.
I know that on the FWSM I cannot hard code a MAC address to an interface in a context so how do I get around this problem caused by the duplicate MAC addresses?
We have 6509 VSS with FWSM Module and we have created two context on it, one is INTERNALL CONTEXT othe is EXTERNALL Context? We have spanned various VLANS in switches and FWSM context level. All VLAN Gateways are configured in context level.
Activity description : We had planned migration of these devices into a new Datacenter, it was a planned activity. During migration of devices from one Dc to a new DC we broke the VSS and kept the primary running and removed the secondary switch and migrated this secondary to new DC and powered this device ON in the new DC and checked all the config was very much fine but this device was OFF network as secondary was brought to new DC just to limit the downtime during the primary switch movement.
During the activity ( Primary switch movement )We powered off the Primary switch and mean time before shifting into new Data center We had brought up secondary switch which was already existing in the DC was put live in the network and it was working fine without any issues.
Later we had moved Primary into new data center and tried to put into VSS with the secondary , during this period the secondary device into went into RECOVERY MODE and primary device was not responding and devices went off network and immediatly we removed the VSL link and brought up primary into production network without secondary online in the network ( Without VSS just stand alone switch ) network started working, but bringing up the primary we found that some of the VLANS in the FWSM was deleted and some VLAN had misconfiguration ( example : say original VLAN ip 10.200.112.1 has become 10.300.13.1 ) also some of the access list as well as SVI was deleted making configuration mismatch.
Wanted to know while syncronization b/n primary and secondary switch in VSS if we pull out VSL link would create this type of issues.
We have 2 FWSM modules in each 6500 switches. 1st module is having 04 firewall vlan groups with 18 vlan interfaces in a single context firewall. All are working fine with no issues. Recently we create one more vlan on MFSC and add into the same firewall module. However newly created vlan inside the FW is not able to communicate with outside and also outside users not able to reach newly created subnet. But within the firewall zones (other interfaces) it can communicate. Once we did packet capture we noticed that its hitting firewall outside interface only and when we ping we got TTL expired error. we have default routes to outside and there's no any route inside as new segment is within the firewall (no any hop).
I guess there's no limitation on number of vlans that we can assign on one firewall eventhough there is a limitation for number of vlan-group which is 16 max (but we are within that limit).
i have fwsm in cat6500, i have one firewall vlan group which is in firewall module 1 vlan group 10. I need tocreate another vlan group and add to firewall module 1 vlan group 10, 20. i need to have zero downtime.

For a specific customer requirement I would like to have a vlan interface on the 6500 as default gateway, sat in it's own vrf, and then route all traffic inbound and outbound to this vlan through the FWSM interface, preferably in the same subnet. I don't think this will be possible so just looking for confirmation either way.
As I will be running EIGRP between a pair of central 6500's and 2 remote offices it will make things much easier for me advertise the connected FWSM interfaces in to EIGRP for access in/out of all my VRF'd subnets. If I need another subnet for each VRF FWSM next hop then I'll have to reditribute a list of statics which I don't really want to do.
The reason I am not just using the FWSM as gateway is because I need to run HSRP across 3 different devices (another 6500 in a second suite), and failover FWSM will only give me 1 level of redundancy for those gateways.
I have problem with traffic coming from GRE interface and going further through FWSM on the same 6509-E chassis.It's very interesting and confusing. If packets are fragmented, I can go through, however, if I use normal packets (usual ping for example) traffic goes from outside to inside and stops on it's way back.

GRE is done in hardware (source is loopback interface - only one loopback per GRE tunnel).
Our customer is experimenting really bad performance when running 10Gig traffic through FWSM on C6509. Test with1 Gig traffic are providing find result perfromance as expected in this document: url... I have made a simple drawing so everyone can understand the setup:
The issue is when running 10 Gig traffic between Netapp servers. This traffic is going though the FWSM and the perfomance are really bad: around 50 Mbit/sec. If the traffic is not going though the FWSM ther performance are around 900 Mbit/s.
The customer and I think that the issue is releated the buffer in the C6509 and the FWSM which has big trouble managing 10G to 1G traffic convertering between C6509 and FWSM 6 G etherchannel connection.
When running 10G traffic through FWSM the number of output drops are increasing as you can see on the output bellow. The last thing which is wired a is that the speed is showing 1000 Mbits and not 6000Mbits. [code]
As I am planning to deploy FWSM Module in 6513 chassis and need your valuable comments regarding the strategy that I create for this deployment.Initially (Without FWSM Deployment) all internal traffic moves in this manner.

I am trying to make the multicast working between few hosts inside a single vlan. Host are running mysql cluster and Multicast is used to send master/slave status information to the IP 228.10.10.10 on port 45566.The vlan is defined in FWSM and the host are connected via the core-switch(6513). (hosts-->core-sws--->fwsm)I have tried searching the documentation, but couldn't find specific info to enable multicast between hosts residing in same vlan. FWSM is running code 3.1(4). since the hosts are residing in the same vlan, I am thinking of applying the <multicast-routing> just for that SVI in FWSM.

I tried mapping our servers with x.x.199.43 on server1 and x.x.199.44 on server2... server2 can be reached from outside while server1 is unreacheable and our provider is insisting the issue is with our firewall configuration below is our running config..

The circuit has been tested as clean , so for the moment we have to assume that it is not a circuit issue We also have another idential 7600 in another POP with similar config that does not display the same problem
I have a Cisco ASA 5505 that I have configured. The outside interface is vlan 2 and the inside interface is vlan 1. Port 0 of the ASA is configured to be in vlan 2 and is connected to the ISP provided subnet. Port 1 is connected to my private LAN subnet. I have an additional router connected to Port 2 for guest connectivity. Port 2 is configured to be a member of VLAN 2 so that it can access the ISP provided subnet. From the device connected to port 2 I can ping the vlan 2 interface address of the ASA and from the ASA I can ping the Default gateway of the ISP provided subnet. For some reason the router on port 2 cannot ping the default gateway of the ISP provided subnet. If the vlan were working the same as a vlan in a switch, I would expect to be able to do this. why it is not working or what I can do to get it working?

There are two part subnet of my network, each part use same device type, same running-configs and same network topple: sw6506(to campus)--->sw3560(to buildings)<--->linksys sr324(to offices). IP addresses for manager vlan is 192.168.1.0/24.Suppose we name two part subnet as A and B. the problem is from 7609 I can telnet to every device of part A quickly, but when telnet to each sw3560 of part B,it responses very slowly. And only sw3560 of part B are response slowly, other devices of part B are ok.If I telnet to linksys sr324 first, then from linksys sr324 telnet to the current sw3560, it's ok.I try to capture packets of manage vlan, but there seems no strange things in it.No users of part B report problems, it seems the network is running well. Compare two sw6506s, the only diffirent thing is, there are "overrun" count at each interface in use of part B's sw6506. Each interface traffic is far less than it's capability, but it's "overun" count still increasing at working hours everyday.

How can i use the ASA to accomplish this task. ACLs on the Switch are not stateful and hence not considering this option, Also we are not planning to configure the GW's on the ASA since there is lot of traffic between the vlan's and this will become a bottleneck
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a small cisco 1800 series workgroup router that seperates our network from the outside world. The data coming into our network goes into the router on interface fa0/1 and comes out on interface fa0/0. fa0/0 is split into 2 sub-interfaces (fa0/0.2 and 0/0.3). These sub-interfaces correspond to a desktop and server vlan on our network. The workgroup router is connected to a 3560G trunk port (we'll call it switch 1) and switch 1 connects to another 3560G (we'll call it switch 2). Recently I was asked to add another layer of security to our network by installing an ASA 5510 firewall and forcing certain types of traffic to authenticate using their domain credentials for our network. The firewall was set up between the router and switch 1 in transparent, multi-context mode. There are 2 security contexts, 1 for the desktop vlan and 1 for the server. Both have the same security settings applied to them since we want the same behavior regardless of whether they are trying to access the servers or the workstations.

i'm going mad on following problem. I'm trying to get 2 networks seeing each other while one of the network is a non VLAN network and the other one is a VLAN network.They should use the same interface so i added VLAN e0/0.122 to the interface e0/0.Send a ping from my asa to both gw-IP's made me happy at first. In second in figured out that i cannot reach any client in the other network. For testing purpose i created an permit acl to any/any for both networks, but the packets still get dropped by the default implicit rule. (deny any/anyMaybe i'm to stupid for this

We recently deployed a FWSM on our 6503-e boxes (w/ sup720). NAT is working (PAT) but the issue I am seeing is private traffic from remote sites is not being allowed through the FW. I was able to get the remote site to ping the FWSM itself (inside address), but no hosts behind it. Maybe an ACL issue? Also when I turn off NAT on the remote end, I can than access everything (We are NATng on both ends). Im a routing guy by nature so I will defer this to the security guys out there.

We have a pair of 6500s with Sup720 running 12.2(33)SXI3. Each has an ACE-20 (s/w A2(2.0)) and FWSM (s/w v3.2(15)). We have reached a limit on the number of rules we can configure on the FWSM, and have determined that we shall upgrade to 4.1(5), with ASDM to 6.2(2)F. A question has been raised regarding the s/w on the ACE-20 modules. Do we need to upgrade them as well?

1. what wrong with the new interfces i created?
2. whats the logic of auto adding a rule to "all" interfaces , the rules are incoming rules specific to interfaces or groups , why add the to the rule to "all" intefaces?.

View 1 Replies View Relatedour FWSM (in 6509) is not coming up, when tried to sesssion up using "Session slot 1 proc 1" command,It is giving error , "Tyring 127.0.0.11 .....connection timed out remote host not responding".
In "show mod" command output at Switch in IOS console: under Card Type Section: it is showing Model & Serial Number correctly, Under MAC address sectino: displaying some MAC address But in Online Diag Status, it showing "Unknown" for Module 1.
We tried re-seating in other slots, but of no use. Giving same error. Some of other forms are saying it is the issue with 128 Mb CF image problem, FWSM is no more reachable from 6509 IOS console. We even tried using FWSM console (using PC-Conse & LCP Console) but FWSM is not contactable.
I am having two dc switches with FWSM modules installed. DC switch1 FWSM (Ver 3.2(12) is wokring as active and Secondary DC switch2 FWSM (ver 3.2.(12) is in standby mode.
