View 2 RepliesI've been trying to set my IP to a static IP so I can host servers for a few different games and every time I change the IPV4 settings my internet stops working and when I troubleshoot it says "DHCP Not enabled for local area connection.".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the exact same problem: network adapter disconnects itself and I am unable to disable and enable it again, because it is unresponsive under the device manager and the network and sharing center. The only solution is to reboot the computer, where I can then have access to the network adapter and can reset it.This is since I upgraded windows vista to windows 7 4 days ago. I have upgraded all the driversI have uninstalled the network adapter driver and rebooted, and reinstalled the latest update with no difference.Running the computer in safe mode with networking has not yielded a crash so far, but have not tested this enough.I have tried disabling IPV6 as some people have said this could be reason, but it still crashes. It is somewhat different from what many people mention as I cannot reset the connection without rebooting (which I could live with). I do not use torrents or any site like that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer is running on Windows 7. It has had no prior internet connection problems. It is wired to my DV-2020 router. My internet suddenly disappeared, as in, it doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure as to when it disappeared due to my personal absence, but from what I heard it was either during 'starting a game' or 'installing firefox add-ons updates'. Internet does work on other computers sharing the same internet (wired and wireless). On the computer that does not have access to internet it gives a "local area connection - No Network Access" and "local area connection - unidentified network." So far I've tried:
A system restore.
Restarting the router (at home as well as the provider)
Changing wiring.
Disabling / Enabling.
Disabling virusscanner.
So I built a PC recently, using Powerline for Internet access. At first the PC wouldn't connect to the Internet so I moved the wireless router and the Powerline plug into another room and plugged them directly into the wall socket (previously they were plugged into an extension lead). I got Internet access on my PC, but 2 laptops and another PC were having trouble connecting to the Internet using Wi-FiWhen I moved the router and Powerline plug back to their original place, my PC wouldn't connect again (all other computers could) and I got the "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" error from the network troubleshooting tool.So it's either I'm the only one that does get Internet when I move the router, or I'm the only one that doesn't get Internet when the router's in its normal place.[CODE]
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer can no longer connect to the internet. As I do not use an Ethernet cable, my concern is the wireless aspect. I am running Windows 7 on an HP laptop, and when I troubleshoot the problem all it pops up with is "Local Area Connection 4 adapter is disabled". When I try repairs as an administrator it just repeats the fact that the adapter is disabled, but does not provide a way for me to fix this. I have also tried going through Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Troubleshooting > Network and Internet and selecting the network adapter option, selecting the Local Area Connection 4 to diagnose. It then said troubleshooting couldn't identify a problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with a direct crossover Ethernet connection between two computers. One is a Win XP laptop, the other a Win 7 64 bit desktop. I have a USB adapter on the desktop and the laptop used that to share internet with the desktop. This setup worked fine until today. There have been no network hardware changes nor software changes but the desktop's power supply recently failed and had to be replaced. After that was done I tried today to plug the adapter and cord back in and use the connection but it will not work. The connection from the modem to the desktop works fine but the connection from desktop to laptop will not detect internet access, says "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and has limited connectivity. Other than a new power supply absolutely nothing has been changed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell desktop with Windows XP Home Edition. I recently restored the computer to factory settings and when I tried connecting to the internet the Local Area Connection wasn't showing in My Network Places. I have been searching through other forums and tried the things that they suggested but nothing worked. I am trying to connect to an AT&T U-verse 2Wire router through a wired connection. I tried connecting both wirelessly and wired to another computer and everything worked fine. I checked the Device Manager and there is an ! mark next to the Ethernet Controller. The properties say that the drivers for that device aren't installed. And of course I can't install them since I can't access the internet. Other forums suggested that I check the network adapters option in Device Manager but that isn't available in the device manager.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy error message states that "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Registering with DNS".I have no internet connection on my HP PC, which is why I am typing this on my laptop. On the HP I am running windows xp with sp3.I connect to a cable modem provide by Time Warner. This problem started yesterday, so I have been utilizing both computers with one internet connection, or plugging and unplugging the cat5 cable.I have run Microsoft Essential Full scan, as well as Malwarebytes's Anti-malware.Now I ran both of those in Safe mode, and picked up no bugs. I have Avast as my antivirus software, and the message I receive on that is that "Avast will not be able tp protect mail/news (error 10050). I am unable to turn on the web shields for Avast.I have manually entered the IP addresses into my HP from my laptop, all the way thru DNS servers. It still won't connect.I tried using the Internet explorer diagnostic tool, and it came back and said that I have a winsock issue.

2. I open Network and Sharing Center, and do diagnostics. They come up with result: "the default gateway is not available". Nothing works. But Local Area Connection and Network Controller are both enabled.
3. I have to restart computer for the internet to work again. However, it doesn't restart: it hangs forever in "shutting down" screen, and nothing happens. Probably because computer is still trying to connect to the internet (?)
4. After forced restart, internet doesn't work, but if I run diagnostics again, they come up with result: "The Local Area Connection adapter is disabled", and fixes it automatically. Internet works then.
