Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Router Dramatically Decreased Internet Speed
Nov 9, 2012
After upgrade to FW .04 on x3000 the router dramatically decreased the internet speed, besides the already discussed problem with cookies and authentication. Any archive for 1.00.03 (previous FW) - I think downgrading now is the only way to hve the router back to normal.

my router is connected to main router from my internet provider. When I use x3000 my download speed is half as fast as it should be (wifi and wired). When I connect to mian router directly (without x3000) both wifi and wired connection is at full speed. Is there any setting I should use to get full speed on x3000 - I have 24 Mbit/s?

I recently upgraded to 1.0.3 fw on my x3000 in the hope of getting rid of the issue with my upload speed. However, now it is denying me connection to the outside world about once a day. It is getting an ip, even if I am renewing the IP address.I am using it on my Fullrate broadband 20/2 connection, and I can at most get 1mbit UL, but with the old router, I could get 2.1mbit. I bought this one because the other one sucked (the standard from my ISP).I have set the router up as the old one was, however, it is still slow, and now it also needs reset every day.

I just installed a Belkin N150 wireless router to use with our iPhones which it is working great. But I also have my desktop pc attached to the router as a wired connection and the down load speed on the desktop pc has decreased dramatically. for example it took 10 minutes to download a 30 sec video. Before I installed the Belkin router I had no downloading issues. This is on a dial up modem.

Over the passed couple of weeks I have experienced issues trying to connect to the internet via the LAN Ports. My main PC and a Xbox cannot connect to the internet even though 3 laptops have no problems using the Wifi connectivity.I have had two live chats with Cisco engineers and the first resolution was to perform a firmware upgrade which did solve the issue for a day or two. I think it was more to do with reset the modem/router rather than the firmware upgrade. The second session ended with the eingineer advising me to take the equipment back to PC and seek a replacement simply because Ciso have nothing in writing relating to this problem.

I have web server setting behind the Linksys ADSL modem, I set the DMZ IP to my web server IP so the external internet users can access my web pages.
This setup was working fine until I switched to “Linksys X3000” modem, external internet user can no more access my web pages.I had set the DMZ IP correctly in the new modem. The local LAN users can access the pages without any problem.

My Cisco X3000 keeps loosing the internet connection after 1 day and will only reconnect if the device is rebooted. Pressing the Internet connect button in the Status page does nothing.Even when the Internet connection is lost, the wireless network is working 100% and all the devices on the network stays connected and are accessible. The router has been updated to the latest Firmware available from Cisco v1.0.03 build 001 Jun 11,2012

My download speed has decreased to about 1/40th of its previous speed, while my upload speed remains the same. Speedtest shows that my connection is equally strong as it was prior to the slowdown, even though I can't even get anything close to my original speed.Fully detailed version: About a week ago, my download speed decreased from 2 megabytes/s to about 50 kb/s. Prior to the speed decrease, I did not install or update any programs, so it's probably not an interference from some wayward program. I've likewise not encountered any suspicious activity on the computer, nor have I visited suspicious sites, so it probably isn't a virus either. There are several odd things, however. While my download speed has dropped so dramatically, my upload speed is exactly the same. According to a Speedtest.net check from August, my download speed was 8.5 mb/s and my upload speed was 4.14 mb/s. Currently, it is practically the same, at 4.09 mb/s. What is really strange, however, is that according to the Speedtest from today, my download speed is 9 mb/s, even though I can still not exceed 50 kb/s.I tested IDM (download accelerator) on some of my skydrive files, since download accelerators allow for multiple streams of data simultaneously. I was able to download around 500 kb/s, which is still not even close to what I used to be able to reach from skydrive with IDM before (~2000 kb/s), but still much higher than if I only used one download stream (~50 kb/s).
Additional info: Browsing speed and video streaming is also much slower than usual.

I recently purchased two x3000 devices. Both shipped with the 1.0.01 firmware installed.Upgraded one device in one location to the 1.0.03.001 release without issue.A day later i'm not trying from a second location to perform the same action.I've downloaded the FW_X3000_1.0.03.001.bin firmware from the Cisco downloads for the device and receive a pop up 'The image file is incorrect'.I've downloaded hte image twice and it appears to be correct in size. I'm following the same process that worked without issue the day previously.

I just bought a Linksys X3000 to work with my ADSL connection (provider is Singtel from Singapore). I managed to use Cisco connection application to logon and setup the router OK, yesterday. I even connected my PC to the router by LAN, and also a few devices wirelessly. At the end of the day, I switched off everything... but next morning, when I booted up the router, I found that all my devices cannot access internet. Upon checking the server (192.168.1.1), I found that it does not have a IP from Singtel, although on the router the internet symbol (globe sign) is lighted up.I rebooted the router twice, getting the same results (note: I waited for a long time each time, until the globe was lighted up).I disconnected the X3000, and reconnected my Netgear DGN2000. It worked (and retrieved an IP address from Singtel). I then disconnected the Netgear and reconnected X3000. To my surprise, this time X3000 got the IP address and then internet is working again.

Following the chat with the technical support of CISCO.In few words, the LINKSYS X3000 is the only router in the world that can't shows the DSL line parameters ( SNR and LINE ATTENIATION ) so you can't evaluate the line quality without using another router.... INCREDIBLE!!!!Let's see how long it will be before the firmware update!Me: simple question: is rather embarrassing but I can't find the SNR value (Adsl status) in the Linksys X3000 interface. Same for the Line Attenuation values. These are the standard DSL information and they are essential to evaluate the DSL line quality.Unfortunately, you are right, these parameters are not available on the Gateway (X3000) Setup page.Me:It's unbelievable I use routers for my work and this is the first product that can't shows the DSL line parameters...The only parameters available under DSL Connection Subta are Status, Downstream Rate and Upstream Rate.Me:Do you think it's serious? The price of this product and the target to which it is oriented suggest a more professional approach.I agree, but as of now, this is how it is however, you need to keep an eye on future updates for the device that might include these paraters/features.Me:Please could you send a notification to the DEVELOP TEAM to quickly update this product FIRMWARE and close the gap that separates it from other products in the same category?

At this moment we have a Linksys x3000 configured as modem on a ADSL connection (PPPoA)From our monitoring server we send ICMP packets to see if the connection is alive (or not). The problem is when we disable the ipV4 SP1 firewall and do not tick the: "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests" , we still receive connection timeout's from outside hosts. Is this a bug? And if not; how can we enable ping from outside networks? We really want to enable ping because of the monitoring software. The firmware is the latest version: 1.0.0.1

The Linksys EA4500 router is designed to be added to an existing network as an additional access point. See the following description:
Setting your Linksys Wi-Fi or Smart Wi-Fi Router to Bridge Mode is applicable when you want to:• Connect two (2) routers with the capability of sharing the network resources • Use the router as an additional access point on an existing network • Connect the router to a modem/router from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) • Disable the router functionalities to work with third party devices
http:[url].....
Unfortunately the Linksys X3000 DSL modem router is not compatible to the bridge mode, since the internal switch fails if a MAC address of a wireless device switches between the X3000 internal access point and the access point of the EA4500 router. In the faulty state, no local network resources (print server, NAS, ...) are accessible anymore.

I recently changed my wireless ADSL router to an X3000. One of the main reasons for doing so was its ability to share a disk drive on the network without having to have a computer powered on to host the drive. This has been working OK for a month or two, but now the drive keeps "disappearing".
What I mean is that when a computer tries to access it over the network, it gets a message that the network name cannot be found. If I then log into the router, under the Storage section, there are no drive details showing. I have rebooted the router, and sometimes this restores the situation, sometimes not. Sometimes I have to unplug and replug the USB cable, then do a reboot. The USB drive is a 500GB Western Digital FreeAgent Desktop drive. There is nothing wrong with the drive - if I connect it directly to a computer it all works fine. Typically it drops off overnight. We can be accessing the drive OK on a couple of laptops in the evening, then next morning, "network name not found". The router and the drive remain powered on all the time.
As I said it has worked OK for a month or two, now it appears flakey and very unreliable. This router takes a very long time to reboot, so having to do it often is painful.

I am using the x3000 as a modem and router, and I managed to set up the device yesterday through the web interface (192.168.1.1).However, after less than 24 hours of continuous usage, I cannot access the interface for some odd reason. I tried using the disk that came with the device but the software reports as if I am not connected to the router. I tried pinging 192.168.1.1 and I get >1 ms so that confirms the device is active and responsive.

We have a brand new Linksys X3000, with the latest firmware installed. It does not recognise the hostnames of devices on our network. We have added a few hostnames, using 'manually add client'. My first question is why would it not recognise hostnames (a variety of devices, e.g. phones, apple time machine, linux PCs)?
The next problem is that that we are successfully able to ping IP addresses, but when we ping hostnames, results are inconsistent. e.g. currently I have my laptop and a time machine connected by wire directly to the router. I can ping the time machine by IP. The first time I ping by hostname, it works, but immediately after that I ping again and it says 'unknown host'. Why would it suddently forget about a device it is clearly connected to? Have we got some sort of default security setting I don't know about?

I've bought X3000 modem recently & the only issue is pops up for me is wifi signal is too low. I've got 2 routers with me. My old linksys router WAG200G has got no issues with wifi signal. I kept both routers at the same place & compared with same standard channel yet what astonishing me that WAG200G has got more stability than X3000 regardless inspite changing to wireless -N. Is there a way to solve it. Btw, I tried all the standard channels yet it doesn't make any difference.
Firmware Version: v1.0.01.

I have X3000 home gateway and very happy with this device. Use it now as ADSL modem/wifi router. Everything works fine but there is something I do not understand about this device. It has 4 LAN ports and a Cable port. Suppose, I am upgraing from a copper service to fibre. Fibre providers comes and installs their fibre box which is kind of a "modem" for fibre technology. how do I connect fibre box to X3000? Do I use Cable port or a LAN port?
As far as I understand the 4 LAN ports work as switch ports (work at OSI level 2, provide access strictly within same subnet, all devices connected to these ports share the same default gateway), and Cable port gets a different IP address via DHCP or another protocol from the fibre box, or directly from ISP (if we have PPPoE or IPoE service as an example). And there would be no point in plugging WAN link into a LAN port as X3000 would not be able to communicate to the gateway on the other end of the cable.
