Linksys Cable / DSL :: Updating X3000 Modem Router

Jul 8, 2012

I recently purchased two x3000 devices. Both shipped with the 1.0.01 firmware installed.Upgraded one device in one location to the 1.0.03.001 release without issue.A day later i'm not trying from a second location to perform the same action.I've downloaded the FW_X3000_1.0.03.001.bin firmware from the Cisco downloads for the device and receive a pop up 'The image file is incorrect'.I've downloaded hte image twice and it appears to be correct in size. I'm following the same process that worked without issue the day previously.

It has firmware 1.01.09?Edit: I see in the DSL Modulation menu which is set at present to "Multimode" I also have options to select ADSL2, ADSL2+, ADSL2 AnnexM, ADSL2+ AnnexM and ASDL2 AnnexL but I do not see any mention of "VDSL"

New VDSL Modem - Laptop Can't Connect To Wireless Router

Oct 20, 2012

I recently upgraded my DSL service, which required installing a new VDSL modem/wireless router (Actiontec c1000a.) Before the upgrade, I was using an older standalone DSL modem with a Netgear router to provide wireless access to my gaming consoles, laptop, etc. Everything works as before with my new wireless router EXCEPT my son's laptop. All my consoles, iPods, and desktop CAN connect to the wireless network, and the laptop will connect over a WIRED ethernet connection. I cannot get it to connect to the wifi.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Internet Access Via LAN?

Nov 11, 2012

Over the passed couple of weeks I have experienced issues trying to connect to the internet via the LAN Ports.  My main PC and a Xbox cannot connect to the internet even though 3 laptops have no problems using the Wifi connectivity.I have had two live chats with Cisco engineers and the first resolution was to perform a firmware upgrade which did solve the issue for a day or two.  I think it was more to do with reset the modem/router rather than the firmware upgrade.  The second session ended with the eingineer advising me to take the equipment back to PC and seek a replacement simply because Ciso have nothing in writing relating to this problem.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Cannot Connect To ADSL

Dec 12, 2011

I just bought a Linksys X3000 to work with my ADSL connection (provider is Singtel from Singapore).  I managed to use Cisco connection application to logon and setup the router OK, yesterday.  I even connected my PC to the router by LAN, and also a few devices wirelessly. At the end of the day, I switched off everything... but next morning, when I booted up the router, I found that all my devices cannot access internet.  Upon checking the server (192.168.1.1), I found that it does not have a IP from Singtel, although on the router the internet symbol (globe sign) is lighted up.I rebooted the router twice, getting the same results (note: I waited for a long time each time, until the globe was lighted up).I disconnected the X3000, and reconnected my Netgear DGN2000.  It worked (and retrieved an IP address from Singtel). I then disconnected the Netgear and reconnected X3000.  To my surprise, this time X3000 got the IP address and then internet is working again.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Missing DSL Parameters

May 4, 2012

Following the chat with the technical support of CISCO.In few words, the LINKSYS X3000 is the only router in the world that can't shows the DSL line parameters ( SNR and LINE ATTENIATION ) so you can't evaluate the line quality without using another router.... INCREDIBLE!!!!Let's see how long it will be before the firmware update!Me: simple question: is rather embarrassing but I can't find the SNR value (Adsl status) in the Linksys X3000 interface. Same for the Line Attenuation values. These are the standard DSL information and they are essential to evaluate the DSL line quality.Unfortunately, you are right, these parameters are not available on the Gateway (X3000) Setup page.Me:It's unbelievable I use routers for my work and this is the first product that can't shows the DSL line parameters...The only parameters available under DSL Connection Subta are Status, Downstream Rate and Upstream Rate.Me:Do you think it's serious? The price of this product and the target to which it is oriented suggest a more professional approach.I agree, but as of now, this is how it is however, you need to keep an eye on future updates for the device that might include these paraters/features.Me:Please could you send a notification to the DEVELOP TEAM to quickly update this product FIRMWARE and close the gap that separates it from other products in the same category?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Not Compatible With EA4500?

Apr 28, 2013

The Linksys EA4500 router is designed to be added to an existing network as an additional access point. See the following description:

Setting your Linksys Wi-Fi or Smart Wi-Fi Router to Bridge Mode is applicable when you want to:•  Connect two (2) routers with the capability of sharing the network resources •  Use the router as an additional access point on an existing network •  Connect the router to a modem/router from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) •  Disable the router functionalities to work with third party devices

http:[url].....

Unfortunately the Linksys X3000 DSL modem router is not compatible to the bridge mode, since the internal switch fails if a MAC address of a wireless device switches between the X3000 internal access point and the access point of the EA4500 router. In the faulty state, no local network resources (print server, NAS, ...) are accessible anymore.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: USB Drive Keeps Dropping Off X3000

May 11, 2012

I recently changed my wireless ADSL router to an X3000.  One of the main reasons for doing so was its ability to share a disk drive on the network without having to have a computer powered on to host the drive.  This has been working OK for a month or two, but now the drive keeps "disappearing".

What I mean is that when a computer tries to access it over the network, it gets a message that the network name cannot be found.  If I then log into the router, under the Storage section, there are no drive details showing.  I have rebooted the router, and sometimes this restores the situation, sometimes not.  Sometimes I have to unplug and replug the USB cable, then do a reboot.  The USB drive is a 500GB Western Digital FreeAgent Desktop drive.  There is nothing wrong with the drive - if I connect it directly to a computer it all works fine.  Typically it drops off overnight.  We can be accessing the drive OK on a couple of laptops in the evening, then next morning, "network name not found".  The router and the drive remain powered on all the time.

As I said it has worked OK for a month or two, now it appears flakey and very unreliable.  This router takes a very long time to reboot, so having to do it often is painful.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 - Able To Ping IPs But Not Hostnames

Oct 3, 2012

We have a brand new Linksys X3000, with the latest firmware installed.  It does not recognise the hostnames of devices on our network. We have added a few hostnames, using 'manually add client'.  My first question is why would it not recognise hostnames (a variety of devices, e.g. phones, apple time machine, linux PCs)?

The next problem is that that we are successfully able to ping IP addresses, but when we ping hostnames, results are inconsistent.  e.g. currently I have my laptop and a time machine connected by wire directly to the router.  I can ping the time machine by IP.  The first time I ping by hostname, it works, but immediately after that I ping again and it says 'unknown host'.  Why would it suddently forget about a device it is clearly connected to?  Have we got some sort of default security setting I don't know about?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: How To Connect Fiber Box To X3000

Apr 2, 2013

I have X3000 home gateway and very happy with this device. Use it now as ADSL modem/wifi router. Everything works fine but there is something I do not understand about this device. It has 4 LAN ports and a Cable port. Suppose, I am upgraing from a copper service to fibre. Fibre providers comes and installs their fibre box which is kind of a "modem" for fibre technology. how do I connect fibre box to X3000? Do I use Cable port or a LAN port?

As far as I understand the 4 LAN ports work as switch ports (work at OSI level 2, provide access strictly within same subnet, all devices connected to these ports share the same default gateway), and Cable port gets a different IP address via DHCP or another protocol from the fibre box, or directly from ISP (if we have PPPoE or IPoE service as an example). And there would be no point in plugging WAN link into a LAN port as X3000 would not be able to communicate to the gateway on the other end of the cable.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Requires Daily Restart?

Feb 3, 2012

I have a Linksys X3000 router.  While it is running, connection latency will gradually increase over about a day until eventually it just stops working at all and I have to power it off and back on again.

Ping times to a local website slowly increase from 30ms immediately after restarting the router, to about 100ms about an hour before it will need to be restarted, then rapidly increase to over 1 second before it drops out completely.  When this happens, no connections through the router will work, I cannot even ping it or connect to its configuration web page.

I upgraded the firmware to see if that would work but it didn't.  I have had the exact same problems with the 1.0.0 and 1.0.01 versions.

Can I get it replaced?  And in the mean time, is there some way to make the router automatically restart at a scheduled time?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: How To Recover From Failed Upgrade Of X3000

Mar 7, 2012

My device is Linksys X3000 modem router. What happened: I `ve tried to upgrade my router over Wifi connection and it failed.when the progress was at 98%. Obviously I should not have done it over the WiFi.There wasn't any warning when I`ve done that. When I got to this situation, my modem has had only power LED on and it was shining red.I have tried using reset button(including 30sec-30sec-30sec method), but it did not recover the modem itself(asI later found out, it did reset the config only). The following method of recover worked for me:

- connect PC to the modem using wired ethernet connection

- if the IP address is not automatically assigned(i.e. DHCP server is down on the router), then assign it statically on the PC. This is a key moment. The subnet you should depends on whether the config was already reset by this time. If it was, then use the default network settings.

It should be 192.168.1.x subnet. The modem should have 192.168.1.1, you can take, for instance, 192.168.1.20 for your PC. Then go to the browser, and go the router`s IP address(192.168.1.1 with default settings). You should see a very simple web page(different from the standard interface), prompting.you to upload the binary image file and upgrade. After doing so, the modem reboots, and stands up!

Still, I think even given that I`ve tried to upgrade the modem using WiFi, that should not cause issues by itself. I expect that the modem would firstly download the binary completely, verify its checksum, and only then switch to it. So I can`t imagine how flaky wireless connection would disrupt this process. I believe the issue is caused by a bug.A support lady have also confirmed I should not have used WiFi for this purpose. If that`s the case, then there should be some sort of warning in the management interface before starting the upgrade, and perhaps, even a protection against usage of WiFi for the upgrade.
