View 14 RepliesI recently upgraded my DSL service, which required installing a new VDSL modem/wireless router (Actiontec c1000a.) Before the upgrade, I was using an older standalone DSL modem with a Netgear router to provide wireless access to my gaming consoles, laptop, etc. Everything works as before with my new wireless router EXCEPT my son's laptop. All my consoles, iPods, and desktop CAN connect to the wireless network, and the laptop will connect over a WIRED ethernet connection. I cannot get it to connect to the wifi.

I desperately try to set up the X3000 as a router behind a vDSL modem. When I choose connection through Ethernet and then PPPoE, it never keep the credentials after reboot in spite of having saved the data before.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to dumb down a Cisco 886va to act as a pure vdsl bridge modem with a local ip to be able to do some admin work on the router. To some extent my config works, but i think the default vlan 1 kills my internet. When i connect the 88va the vlan bridge 7 and 8 goes up, the router behind connects via pppoe on vlan 7 but no traffic is going through. vlan 8 gets a dhcp lease for iptv and if i don´t switch the receiver on and off the traffic flows and the tv works. I am also able to connect to the local ip to access the web interface. [code]

I'm using the ASDM, if I configure VLAN2 with the IP address of the VDSL interface I can ping the modem from the console session via Putty. If I take that off and configure up the PPPOE client I can't ping the VDSL modem, I'd expect that. If I then add in an IP address to the PPPOE client config like I assigned to VLAN2 it doesn't ping either.If I can't ping the VDSL modem I don't expect it would work but it seems I can only either give it a static address which pings but has no pppoe or give it a PPPOE config which means I can't ping the VDSL. why I can't ping the VDSL modem when the interface is set as PPPOE with an IP address?Presumably if I'm on the ASA console doing pings from there to the modem then I'm ruling out problems with the routing from the laptop (trying to isolate where the issue is)
i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

I have installed a CISCO v887 router in Amsterdam officeI established a VPN tunnel between AMS office and Edinburg office.
1. The VPN is up and running
2. I am unable to browse anything from LAN computers in Amsterdam office.
3. From LAN computers I can traceroute to yahoo.com but from browser I cant browse yahoo.com and web page hanged out in this situation (website found waiting for reply). But nothing comes over and LAN users are unable to use internet.

I have a Dell Aspire 5332 laptop and i haven't used it since November 2012 (where it was working fine).It had Windows updates when i switched it off. I switched it on today and i have no internet connection. When hovering over the icon it says unidentified network - no internet access. My service provider is British Telecom and i am on the Fibre Optic package. I am using the BT Home Hub 2.0.Fibre Type B and also a Echolife HG 612 model FTCC VDSL NTE Router. I have Norton installed on the machine but there is only 1 day left on the subscription. I have tried a wired connection from the router but still have the same message. 2 other computers are wired to the router and all of our Ipads and Macbook connect wirelessly with no problems.

1.) I don't have a wireless card in my PC, so I will be connecting wired to get WiFi via WAN and LAN ports, right? First before I forget, I have a Windows 7 32-bit desktop PC. We are working with a DSL modem residential line without phone line using a coaxial cable, and Ethernet cable from modem into the PC. connecting this D-link router to my modem and WiFi, and for me to use the WPA2 security?

He says has 3 static ips for the modem, and 1 of the network cables coming from the modem directly into the D-Link Router. I first attempted to just plug it into the uplink, and let DCHP do its magic, but I had no luck with that. I could connect to the router but it didn't have internet.
So I restarted the downstream router, and plugged the network cable into the 1st port, and suddenly I had internet on the wireless but it would constantly go up and down, and ping times were extreme erratic.
I have a D-Link 2740B with the 2 antennas and sloping black case and for some reason I now can't seem to login to the web GUI via 192.168.1.1. The modem is working OK but there is a setting I need to change.IE says "Internet Explorer cannot display the page"A friend then recommended trying Firefox. This worked the first time but now it is not connecting either. On http://192.168.1.1/ I just get a blank screen.I've turned the power off on the modem for 15 minutes and back on, and rebooted the computer.I've also tried turning Norton Antivirus & Firewall off but this didn't make any difference.I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with SP1.I've avoided resetting the modem as I am of the understanding that means I have to start from scratch with all the settings.

I just bought the TP Link MR 3020 and tried connecting my Tata Photon Whiz USB (Huawei EC121) modem with it. The TP Link cannot identify the modem. It goes forever into identifying mode. I next tried a Huawei E173 with Reliance 3g sim in it but again no results. The TP Link goes into identifying mode forever. i just installed a dlink dsl-520b modem. I installed it using the cd wizard without the router connected. Now when i try to hook the router [dir-655 rev B v2.10NA] up the world light is orange and i cannot get a connection. I tried running the wizard but it times out and says it cannot find the server. I used the reset button and that did not work. It says to use a PPoe connection and i have the right password but it will not connect.

my MR 3220 cannot manage tp-link Ma180 modem. At start-up it tryes to identify the modem but after a while the status of the modem shows "Unplugged"
I already updated Router Firmware version. Firmware Version: 3.14.2 Build 120822 Rel.57775n Hardware Version: MR3220 v2 00000000 Signal strengts is weak but enough to access Internet when Ma180 is connect to my PC.

I was trying to access the modem router as the admin but AT&T seems to have a pain in the butt security system from me making any changes. I wanted to forward some ports to setup my Synology DS212j Network Attached Storage (NAS). I connected my d-link router to the already setup modem router which I am now connected to. I have to run off to school but I was wondering, would I be able to forward the port off my d-link DIR-601 and be able to host my NAS server off that?
I don't have too much in-depth networking experience besides setting forwarding ports, setting static IPs, but I can't do that since I am not the admin for the AT&T router. I figure the password for the AT&T router is just defaulted to admin or blank but I haven't had time to fully test everything out.
I moved to a new apartment and have to wait a month or even more to get my DSL internet, so I temporarily got myself a USB 3G device to have some access to the internet till I get my DSL line.
The USB acts as 3G modem for a single PC that's connected to it, what I want is to share that internet using my D-Link DIR-655 router so I'd be able to connect my iPhone and PS3 as well.
How to get that setup working as smoothly as possible would be great. DIR-655's default gateway is 192.168.0.1, and the auto DHCP range IIRC is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.

I'm facing an issue since 2 month now , no one is able to tell me what's going on. The line goes down suddently for 2 or 3 minutes and this happens everyday at the same range (~2 or 3 hours) of time . I don't have any scheduled task to cause this. I can't connect with my D-Link router 4300 to the modem. It's like my router doesn't recognize the internet connection of my modem because there is no available connection at all, for every single PC in my home ! When I connect a cable to my PC, it works. I have zeroed in on TP-Link TD-W8901G having 4 RJ-45 ports, 1 USB port, 1 RJ-11 port and also it is a wireless router. Currently I would be connecting the above modem router to my desktop running Linux and using the same ISP with ADSL. Considering a future scenario where I may decide to use another way to connect to the Internet like maybe 3G or Cable, etc (with their separate modems) I was wondering if my same modem router (TD-W8901G) could be used as a standalone router for connecting the devices on my home network. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy desktop recently broke so i bought my first laptop. I have AT&T DSL and i bought a new D-Link DSL-2640B modem/router so i could have wireless internet. I installed it and i was able to use it with the ethernet cable, however when i tried to use wifi, it worked for only about 2 minutes before it disconnected.. Now when i try again it says that it is connected (full 5 bars) but it also says there is no internet access and i cannot use the internet.
Also, before, with the old modem i was able to just connect the ethernet cable to the laptop and just start using the internet. Now i have to connect by putting in my username and password provided by my ISP almost like if it was dial up. I don't know why i have to do this now but not before.

I just switched to a cable modem and the router blinks as if it's communicating with the modem but no internet is getting to the computers connected to the router. I've always left the dlink's settings to default-my 2 macs receive automatic dhcp. If the settings on the dlink have to be changed to communicate with the new cable modem?

most service providers in our country dont have 3G or 4G support,but all the same i bought an MR3420 router in the hopes that since my modem is listed,it would still connect even if on an EDGE/2G network like YU-Kenya.But this is not the case,the router does not recognize the modem i.e it says the modem is unplugged but when i look at the logs,it indicated it detected the modem but LTE was set to zero. providing a modem bin file for compatibility under EDGE/2G connection otherwise my router will be of no use to me.

Today i purchased brand new Tp-Link MR-3420 3G/4G router for my BSNL EVDO modem..as this product is shown to support ZTE AC8700 modem...but it doesnt seem to work.. I put the right dial-up number,user name and password that i use when i connect modem to laptop and left APN field blank...The modem gets identified by the router but it just don't connect to internet,it just keeps saying "connecting.....". Also the signal strength is shown 0%... If your modem is really supporting ZTE AC8700 modem why its not working?

I am connected to the internet via a non TP=Llink ADSL2 modem/router supplied by my ISP.I was using my TL-MR3220 as a 3G modem but no longer need it for that purpose. I was wondering whether I can now use my TL-MR3220 for two other purposes: as an additional wireless access point and as a means of linking equipment (i.e. printers) to the home network . i have tried connecting the ADSL2 modem/router to the TL-MR3220 via an ethernet cable (one of the 4 LAN ports on the ADSL modem/router to the blue WAN port on the TL-MR3220) but I can get no internet connection through the TL-MR3220.Is this normal i.e. something that the TL-MR3220 is not designed to do, or am I just using the wrong settings ? I have tried a whole range of different settings but none seem to work.

my Huawei E353 dongle/modem is not recognised by the MR3420 router. The router functions perfectly with a different dongle (E122). The E353 works fine when connected directly to laptop so I am happy it is functioning fine. Could not find a bin file for the E353.
