View 1 RepliesI've had a dlink604router connected to a dsl modem for the longest time with all my computers receiving internet without any problems. I just switched to a cable modem and the router blinks as if it's communicating with the modem but no internet is getting to the computers connected to the router. I've always left the dlink's settings to default-my 2 macs receive automatic dhcp. If the settings on the dlink have to be changed to communicate with the new cable modem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWe ran a D-Link DIR-655 for about 5 years on our home network of 7 desktop computers (LAN) and two laptops (wireless) with essentially no problems. However following a power outage last week the router stopped communicating with the cable modem (WAN port failure?). From the web site we determined that the DIR-825 is a fancier version of the DIR-655 (extra 5 GHz transmitter) so we upgraded to a new 825 three days ago. I did not use the wizard on the CD to set up the new router -- rather did it manually because I thought I'd configure the new router exactly the same as the old one -- this was probably not a good idea in retrospect. (FYI our new DIR-825 is a ver. B1 unit with ver. 2.02NA firmware.
After setting the router up -- it lit up like a Christmas tree and I could see all 7 desk top computers (3 are WIN7 & 4 are WINXP) in the LAN and all would go on-line with no issues. (FYI 3 desk tops are directly attached to the DIR-825 and four attached via a switch). However, when I tried to map the network I find that only 5 of the desk tops we assigned to our named home network -- 2 or them could not be mapped as they were assigned to a "public" network. So while they all still communicate with each other two are no longer in our home network. I do not think this was anything that I did -- knowingly at least.
I logged back on the the router home page but I see nothing that clues me in as to what I did wrong. So I'm wondering how the DIR-825 made these "assignments" and what I can do to redirect the router to bring the other two computers into our home network. (BTW one of the two "miss-assigned" computers is WIN7 and one is WINXP so its not a window version issue).
We have kids in the house and I'd like to limit their internet access to certain times of the day but because of the great amount of devices they use (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) the only way I could think of doing that easily was to set up two wireless networks: one that the adults could use 24/7 and the other that the kids could access during certain set hours.
Here's the equipment I'm working with:
DLink DIR 615 wireless router
DLink DIR 515 wireless router
Motorola Surfboard cable modem S85101U
I plugged the DLink 615 in, set it up for DHCP client and plugged it into the cable modem. I lef the default 192.168.0.1 IP address for the device. On that router, I also reserved the 192.168.0.199 IP address and assigned it to the DLink 515.I also gave the DLink 515 device the IP 192.168.1.1 so I could administer it.I set the DLink 515 to static IP and made the IP 192.168.0.199 and the default gateway 192.168.0.1.I plugged the DLink 515 into one of the LAN ports in the DLink 615.I set a schedule on the DLink 615 to shut down internet access to the DLink 515 at a certain hour and turn it back on at another time.Everything seems to work ok, but at least once a day we have to unplug and plug the routers to reset them.

so i have a sb6141 cable modem that is mine and not a lease. it works like a champ when hard wired to my desktop. i just got my hands on a new shiny tp-link wdr4300 yesterday and after messing with it for the better part of 2 hours, something seems to be amiss with the communication between the two. everything will be humming along fine and all of a sudden i get the dreaded PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED. sure as the world i look at the modem and all the lights are off and its resetting itself. and honestly this continues until i pull the power and plug it back up. i think maybe one time in the middle of the night i actually saw it reset itself and then come back online.

I have two wireless routers:
TP Link TL-WR841ND
and
TP Link TL-WR541G
I would like to:
use the TL-WR541G for my children wireless laptop, wireless ipad and wireless iphones.
I can turn this unit off at a specific time each evening as I wish.
The WR841ND is used for my wireless laptop, wired iMac, wired Roku stream player and wired Voip adapter.
I tried a few things but really do not know what I am doing and I cannot get both wireless routers to access the internet.
What I tried so far:
Cable modem ethernet out to the input on the WR841ND router. took one of the four hardwire outputs from the WR841ND and ran into the input on the WR541G I powered on the cable modem....it booted... i then powered each router up and waited for each to boot. I launched web browser and navigated to : http://192.168.0.1/ this allowed me to setup the WR841ND router.
it's current settings:
Firmware Version: 3.13.27 Build 121101 Rel.38183n
Hardware Version: WR841N v8 00000000
WAN type: dynamic IP
LAN IP address: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: enabled
Start IP: 192.168.0.100
End IP: 192.168.0.199
How do I set up the second router? I tried to disable the DHCP server on router 2 (WR541g) and change the IP but don't know what to change it to.
when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed. I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.
When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.
I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.
I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.
I can't get a new IP from my ISP when my Cable modem router(EPC3925) is set to router mode, i have tried factory restore, unplugged etc..but still no luck. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to connect my D-Link DIR-601 router with a Motorola SBG901 cable modem. The modem itself has a built-in WIFI (G) and one ethernet port, but not good enough for my purposes. I need more wired connections and an (N) WIFI connection, which the D-Link could provide, if I could get it to work. I just cannot get the two pieces of equipment to talk to each other. I can set up 2 independent LAN's, but no WAN (internet connection) from either. D-Link has provided pages of instrutions, but nothing works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my DIR-601 for almost a year now and it's been working near flawlessly until just recently. I have a very simple setup with a desktop PC, router, Time Warner cable modem, and the only device that accesses the router is my Droid phone. I shut my PC down every night. The next day when starting up my PC, there's no internet connection. I haven't fooled around with any router settings, but what I've been doing to re-connect is unplug the cable modem power cord and router power code, wait a minute, then re-plug them back in and it connects right away. Is there something easy that I can do/repair to correct this? Maybe I should check if there are firmware updates?

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy dir-655 rev. A2 router won't connect to the new modem that Charter sent me. I had the scientific Atlanta model dpc2100r2 modem but Charter called and said that they have upgraded my speed for free from 18/2 to 30/4 and that I needed a new docsis 3.0 compatable modem in order to take full advantage of the speed upgrade. I received the modem and connected an activated it according to their instructions. The modem works fine when connected to the PC only but as soon as I connected to the dir 655 the link light went out on the modem and I lost my internet connection. The first step I took was to clone the mac address in Wan section of router. It still did not work. The next step was to turn the modem off, the router off and shutdown the PC. I waited until this morning to reconnect everything. I started the PC, then I started the modem and waited for it to stabilize and finally I restarted the router. I still had no connection. The status page of the router said that the cable was disconnected and that network was disconnected. There was no info to release so I clicked the renew button but nothing happened.

I have another printer that is networked (connected directly to the switch, no computer) with a static ip of 10.x.x.199. My laptop can connect and print to it just fine. Connection through LAN is fine into desktop however the minute we try to connect an additional wireless router the connection fails. We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity. We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOur router is connected through a cable modem and If I connect my computer directly wired to the cable modem, I have no problem, it does not disconnect at all.In comes the router in between, when I connect the router and connect my computer through the router WRT54G2, it works initially then I get disconnected after about 1-2 hours. This is very regular. I have a temporary solution by resetting the router via two ways:
1. Go to the admin page, and perform a release and renew IP method.
2. Simply power off the router and then on again.
I have an EA2700 (fimware "classic" 1.0.14.129982) that used to work perfectly fine with a Comcast cable modem. I just recently switched to Charter with an Arris TM902 modem and that's where the problems started. The cable modem will not recognize my router. I have to plug in a computer into the cable model when it starts up. Then I need to clone the MAC address and restart the router (after disconnecting the computer). Why isn't the cable modem recognizing the router when I restart it? I guess this could work if it would be a one time thing but I had to power-cycle the modem and it stopped recognizing the router even with the cloned MAC address. So I had to do the whole spiel again.
Is there any way to make this work easier? Should I update my router's firmware to the "smart" one?
I have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 6 with Mac OS X (version 10.6.8) hooked up to a Scientific Atlantic cable modem, with RCN as the ISP.
Recently, RCN had some network issues, and so I had to power down and reset my modem. The modem is working fine now -- no problems at all when the Mac is connected direclty to the modem.
The router's network is OK in that I can connect the Mac wirelessly to the network, but I can't connect to the internet through the router (through neither the wireless or wired connection).
I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the router, following the Linksys site instructions.
I did call Linksys tech support on the advice of RCN, and they said that the router does appear to be working (power, WLAN, and Internet lights are on), but they would be charging me nearly the cost of a new router to fix the problem.
I want to create a DMZ by having a less sophisticated router connected to cable modem, which would have the webserver which contains no sensitive information, and then the EA3500 to which my laptops and desktops which contain sensitive information would connect to. Can CCC work through that first router?

I just switched to Roadrunner Lightening via Brighthouse Networks. There is no configuration capability in the Cable modem/ router / wireless - Ubee provided to make the Modem a bridge. You have to call Brighthouse to do that. They indicated that they only do that for supported routers and the EA 4500 is not one of them. I'm ready to call them to say I have one of the supported modems so "do it" and then find out what happens.
Meanwhile I have connected my EA4500 through their router and have a network in a network. I've noticed another more significant problem. The speeds through the EA 4500 drop to 90%. Is there something wrong with the router configuration that would cause this significant drop in speed? I'm afraid if the problem is the EA 4500.

With the E3000, you could see the IP address assigned by the cable modem and the primary and secondary DNS server addresses provided, and if the DHCP request didn't work, these addresses would be all zeroes. But, with the EA6500, I can't find an equivalent screen that shows these assignments, or zeroes when the DHCP request fails.
