I'm switching to cable internet service instead of DSL. My Netgear router will not work with my cable modem; but it works like a charm with my DSL modem. Is it a problem with the router setup? Good thing I still have the DSL service.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't get a new IP from my ISP when my Cable modem router(EPC3925) is set to router mode, i have tried factory restore, unplugged etc..but still no luck. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?

I also have CompUSA Wirelesss Broadband Router, which I am trying to use and make a wireless set up to connect the following devices
1. A Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
2. A Laptop with Windows XP SP2
3. An Android 2.3 Mobile phone
I can directly connect the wire from modem to laptop and browse internet - it works. But that is not a wireless network. It proves that BSNL modem alone works.make this network Wireless by using the CompUSA wireless router.
1. The connection set up is as follows:

2. I can connect to the wireless router by typing 192.168.2.1 in internet browser.Here are the details of wireless router settings

I have asked this question to an internet service provider and 2 different techs at two differnt computer stores and no one has an answer for me. What is happening is just a few computers you plug them into dsl just through the modem the phone company uses and you cannont get on the internet, you get no internet connection, But you plug the same computer into a router that is connected even to the same modem to get the dsl and it will work right away. Now I understand that the router acts as a dhcp server and the computer is getting its ip address from it, but why won't it pick up one from the modem without the router? When this happens and it is not very often you can use the same modem with the same cabling and plug in another computer and it will get online right away so it is not the modem that is bad and not the cabling.
We had this problem about a year ago with like 5 computers. would not get on dsl, online through the telephone companies modem how ever you would use the same modem and plug it into a router and you could get online right away. At that time the telephone company had a real old DHCP server and the date and time and everything was wrong on it I suppose the battery was bad but they did away with it and use a differnt one going through Netins internet service provider. At that time before they did away with the dhcp server I had called netins and told them the problem they didn't no what was wrong and like I said I spoke with two other techs from two other computer stores and they had never heard of the problem, well now he is having the same problem with two laptops, I was just there today and saw they couldn't get online but you could plug another laptop into the same modem and it would get online with no problem, I took the laptop home and hooked it through my router and it got online right away. So I told him I tnought it was something with there dhcp server that the laptop wasn't getting an ip address from it but then why would another laptop getting plugged into the same modem in a few min get right online.
does my router have to be hardwired into my modem in order for my router/ computer setup which is located one room over from the cable modem
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo about a month ago I made the switch from AT&T to Charter and had a ton of problems those first 2 days getting it running, then after that it was running just fine until today.Last night it randomly stopped working, but I didn't want to fix it at the time(to tired).
It seems like when the modem does a restart it won't work with my router unless I disconnect all the ethernet cords going out of the router except the one going to the modem. And once I verify a connection(router has a light) I can connect the other ethernet cords and everything will function just right.So I fixed it this morning and about 30 minutes later it stopped working again. I don't know what's causing it to stop working, it seems like the modem is resetting and then I have to do what I described above. And then after that it shortened to about 5 minutes later.
My router is the LevelOne WBR-6002.
The modem is a Cisco DPC3008.Here's the Cisco page:

I have a pc running windows 7 connected to a broadband modem. From that modem I have a LAN cable running to another building plugging into a wifi router. I have 2 pcs running xp plugged into this wifi router. (they can see each other)Is it possible for the 3 pcs to see each other on the network?The only way I got it to work was if all pcs were connected to the same modem. However to save running super long cables for each pc I want to run just one between the modems and then plug all pcs into that wifi modem which is close to everything.

Wireless router model is CISCO Linksys E2000.I tried to download Cisco Connect Setup Software for PC and followed the step until one point it asked for my wireless username and password and I put them in correctly but it said my router was not successfully set up and failed. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

Last week, a big storm rolled through my town while I was out of the area on business. I had a working LAN/WLAN for my home & home office, and the modem I was using got fried by the storm. Strangely enough nothing else was affected..Anyway, I went out and bought an identical modem, and had it set up with Comcast. If I connect directly to the modem, everything works perfectly. But when I try to attach my router to the new modem, I have no connectivity over wifi OR hardwired to the router. According to the status light on the router, it can't find a connected modem.I reset the router back to factory settings, installed the newest firmware, and moved my DHCP pool out of the default range. I then power cycled the whole setup - twice - with no success.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought an ASUS Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless-N 600 Router (RT-N56U) to upgrade from my older router but I'm having a problem: It won't connect to my cable modem (via the WAN ethernet port), so I can't connect to the internet. [URL]
When I connect the router to my computer via ethernet cable, the light on the ethernet port of the router comes on (an orange LED light), but when I connect my cable modem (or computer) to the the router through the WAN ethernet port, the WAN port's LED does not come on at all and I keep getting an error message on my browser saying that I need to make sure the ethernet cable is connected.
I've tried three different ethernet cables, including the one that came with the router, with no luck (WAN LED lights never come on, so I assume that this means that there is no activity at all). I've also tried cloning the MAC address, restoring to factory default, updating the routers firmware, and holding the reset button on the modem for 15 seconds, among other things.
Also, something that might be worth noting: While one end is connected to my modem, if I plug the ethernet cord into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the router, the green LED instantly turns on but, as I said before, there's no activity when plugged into the WAN port. My modem is an Arris TM052G (DOCSIS 2.0) provided by my ISP, Time Warner Cable.
My New comcast cable modem will connect to the internet, as i am connected to it by ethernet right now, but my netgear router will not recognize it and get a link to the internet to get my existing LAN back up.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwe were happily getting along with our RCN cable Motorola modem and DLink wireless 655 until the last couple of weeks. The internet would intermittently not be available, without warning. First couple of times we power cycled the modem and router, and it worked, but then stopped being available altogether. I got some support from RCN, the cable provider (they own the modem and it's old, so naturally that was my first thought). I now have a new modem and the situation is exactly the same. The error message that I get is that the IP address for the network cannot be found.
I got internet access by bypassing the router, connecting the modem directly to my (Windows XP) PC, releasing and renewing the IP address, and power cycling the modem. However, the internet still intermittently shuts down, and of course turning off the computer necessitates the whole procedure again. And now we have no wireless. Should we assume it's the router, and a new one would solve our problem? Of do we just need to reset the IP address of the router?

I have a wireless modem (e3200) connected to the cable modem. My wireless devices pull a 198.x.x.x ip address. Can connect to the internet just fine, BUT..Because of this (im assuming) I cannot add my printer to my wireless laptop. Different networks, wont connect via share name etc.So, if i turn off DHCP and NAT on the wireless router, shouldnt my laptop pull DHCP from the cable modem and get a 10.x.x.x IP address while connected wirelessly?My wired computers can connect to the shared printer just fine, only my wireless computers cannot. Connection through LAN is fine into desktop however the minute we try to connect an additional wireless router the connection fails. We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity.We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just bought an X1000 box, it seems to be randomly locking up and the only way around the issue is to reboot. I have also noticed it can't seem to handle streaming video either.
My ADSL has been checked and all is OK and if I don't stream video generally things seem OK for a couple of days. If I run a continual ping to the unit you can see that now and again the request times out but then some times comes back and other times I need to reboot again. The log file seems to show very little either.
I desperately try to set up the X3000 as a router behind a vDSL modem. When I choose connection through Ethernet and then PPPoE, it never keep the credentials after reboot in spite of having saved the data before.
