View 1 RepliesI have a friend whose Dell Latitude D800 and has been able to connect to the internet wirelessly using a Net Gear wireless adaptor.Comcast cable came several days ago to set them up to connect to the internet using their cable modem. The modem is working fine and packets are sent out but there is no internet connection and no packets received.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi really don't get it what caused this. There was a problem from the provider.. then this .. I resetted the router, could get to the Interface.. and now i can't And besides that, the internet connection get's picky to what lets work For example i could use gmail .. but not this page.. or instant messaging worked, but not browsing (and the speed was awful)
at the moment the connection seems stable though (the changes from above were made)
I'm switching to cable internet service instead of DSL. My Netgear router will not work with my cable modem; but it works like a charm with my DSL modem. Is it a problem with the router setup? Good thing I still have the DSL service.

Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? India - BSNL
What type of Broadband connection are you using? ADSL
What is the exact Make and Model of your Modem, Router or Modem/Router Combo - Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, TP-LINK, etc. TeraCom Type 1
What is the Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software installed from the problematic computer - McAfee, Norton, Eset, Webroot, Zone Alarm, etc.Microsoft essentials.
Modem model Type 1 (TeraCom)
I also have CompUSA Wirelesss Broadband Router, which I am trying to use and make a wireless set up to connect the following devices
1. A Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
2. A Laptop with Windows XP SP2
3. An Android 2.3 Mobile phone
I can directly connect the wire from modem to laptop and browse internet - it works. But that is not a wireless network. It proves that BSNL modem alone works.make this network Wireless by using the CompUSA wireless router.
1. The connection set up is as follows:
BSNL TeraCom Modem (LAN 1) ----- wired connection ----- COMPUSA Router (WAN)...... Wireless ....... laptop
2. I can connect to the wireless router by typing 192.168.2.1 in internet browser. Here are the details of wireless router settings
WAN>PPPoE

I have asked this question to an internet service provider and 2 different techs at two differnt computer stores and no one has an answer for me. What is happening is just a few computers you plug them into dsl just through the modem the phone company uses and you cannont get on the internet, you get no internet connection, But you plug the same computer into a router that is connected even to the same modem to get the dsl and it will work right away. Now I understand that the router acts as a dhcp server and the computer is getting its ip address from it, but why won't it pick up one from the modem without the router? When this happens and it is not very often you can use the same modem with the same cabling and plug in another computer and it will get online right away so it is not the modem that is bad and not the cabling.
We had this problem about a year ago with like 5 computers. would not get on dsl, online through the telephone companies modem how ever you would use the same modem and plug it into a router and you could get online right away. At that time the telephone company had a real old DHCP server and the date and time and everything was wrong on it I suppose the battery was bad but they did away with it and use a differnt one going through Netins internet service provider. At that time before they did away with the dhcp server I had called netins and told them the problem they didn't no what was wrong and like I said I spoke with two other techs from two other computer stores and they had never heard of the problem, well now he is having the same problem with two laptops, I was just there today and saw they couldn't get online but you could plug another laptop into the same modem and it would get online with no problem, I took the laptop home and hooked it through my router and it got online right away. So I told him I tnought it was something with there dhcp server that the laptop wasn't getting an ip address from it but then why would another laptop getting plugged into the same modem in a few min get right online.
So about a month ago I made the switch from AT&T to Charter and had a ton of problems those first 2 days getting it running, then after that it was running just fine until today.Last night it randomly stopped working, but I didn't want to fix it at the time(to tired).
It seems like when the modem does a restart it won't work with my router unless I disconnect all the ethernet cords going out of the router except the one going to the modem. And once I verify a connection(router has a light) I can connect the other ethernet cords and everything will function just right. So I fixed it this morning and about 30 minutes later it stopped working again. I don't know what's causing it to stop working, it seems like the modem is resetting and then I have to do what I described above. And then after that it shortened to about 5 minutes later.
My router is the LevelOne WBR-6002.
The modem is a Cisco DPC3008.Here's the Cisco page:

I just received a new modem from my ISP acanac, the modem model is NetVito5300.When I connect the modem directly to my computer, I can access the internet, but if I connect through my wireless router, there's no wireless internet access. Wireless router model is CISCO Linksys E2000.I tried to download Cisco Connect Setup Software for PC and followed the step until one point it asked for my wireless username and password and I put them in correctly but it said my router was not successfully set up and failed. I should press the reset button and set the router to factory default mode, but I'm afraid I won't be able to set it up properly after doing so.What should I do to connect my new modem and wireless router properly so I have wireless internet access?

-right now, am hardwired to the router, which is hardwired to the cable modem, and connectivity is fine through hardwiring
-no luck through wireless - this is the error message I get:

I have a laptop using a wireless Ralink USB card to connect to the internet. Is it possible to use the unoccupied Ethernet cable slot to hardwire into a router and use the router to send out the wireless signal picked up by the USB card to other devices?I know I shared my connection like this to my xbox 360 but wasn't sure if it could be used with a router.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WR-110 wireless router that has been acting up lately. I have 10mbps cable internet and have my desktop computer hardwired to the router. I notice that after a few days the download speed gets down to the 2mbps range. Verified by { URL}. If you do a hard boot (unplug for 30 seconds) it will go back to 10mbps speed again. But it seems after a few days it slows own again.
I always run speed test to verify, and it always runs back up at advertised speeds once i hard boot.
Why would this be happening?
I recently purchased a Linksys E1200 router. I have two desktops (Windows XP) hardwired into the router, one of which is not connecting at all.I have talked to Linksys tech support 3 times already and they have not been able to fix the problem. Pinging a website got a request timeout.Pinging the router got a good response. It was properly assigned an IP address, but did not connect through the router.Under Network Connections, it displays as "Connected" but is still not able to access the Internet.

What is interesting is that other computers in the household connect to the router via wire without problems. I suppose that means something's wrong with my computer, however, I do not know what. View 4 Replies View RelatedIm trying to optimize my E4200 settings and Ive noted that ping and download speeds are extremely slow for the internet service I signed up for. Ping speeds are consistently more than 1000ms and dowload speeds typically are less than 3Mbps. These are for both wireless and wired connections to the E4200 router.
When I disconnect the router and hardwire my laptop directly to the the modem, ping speeds are less than 100ms and download speeds are 20Mbps.
Simply put, webpage loading is at a snails pace with wireless and wired connection the router, but blazing fast when hardwired directly to the modem.
On a seperate issue, the iMac I have is also **bleep** slow even when hardwired directly to the modem. Is there an obvious router setting Im screwing up? Router is updated with the latest software.
In my main office, I have a cable modem which is connected to my main E4200 router. All of my equipment (except my Ooma) is served by the E4200. The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network. In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 signal from upstairs isn't strong enough to stream video.
I bought the WET610N and have successfully set it up to interact with the E4200 wirelss network. I can hardwire my laptop to the WET610N and verify the internet works greatHowever, the Wii must connect over wireless. I have other equipment in the basement which would benefit from an internet connection. So, I want to A) connect the ESXS88W 10/100 8-port workgroup switch I have to the WET610N *AND* also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming the wireless network I see in the basement is the same "old" one from upstairs which has not benefited from the WET610N).
How can I set up my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so that it leverages the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while also having the workgroup switch offer hardwired connections to my other equipment (like Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by just plugging the WRT54G2 into the workgroup switch.
Win7, wrt54gs,
It works sometimes. I imagine it has a noise problem since sharing files works, internet works. I cannot remember how to change channels on this router to save my life, though. What is special about sharing a printer?

If I disconnect the ethernet cable from the router to my computer everything works perfect.I tried to reinstall the CD that came with the router and as I try to get through step 2 it says no router detected.I think this is my hold up but I have no way to know how to fix this. I tried to go on the Netgear website and they tell me that I have to be able to connect to the internet to download through the router. Well I can't do that because obviously that is the hangup. View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a Cisco 3825 router which does not work well with a DSL modem(ISP provided). I have configured the Gi0/0 port of the router to plug into this DSL modem but it does not ping to the ISP gateway. If we do a shut/no shut on the interface then it work fine for about 30 secs. Sometimes even for 1 hr. Then the packets drop and we cannot pass any traffic through this interface. Now, if the ISP connection is terminated on a computer it works fine. It works fine without dropping any packet. I have tried various options like using a straight/cross cable. I have tried to configure the interface negotiation for 100/full, 100/half, auto/auto and almost all the options. I have also tried to interconnect the devices using a L2 device like a HUB. Nothing works.
