Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? India - BSNL
What type of Broadband connection are you using? ADSL
What is the exact Make and Model of your Modem, Router or Modem/Router Combo - Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, TP-LINK, etc. TeraCom Type 1
What is the Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software installed from the problematic computer - McAfee, Norton, Eset, Webroot, Zone Alarm, etc.Microsoft essentials.
Modem model Type 1 (TeraCom)
I also have CompUSA Wirelesss Broadband Router, which I am trying to use and make a wireless set up to connect the following devices
1. A Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
2. A Laptop with Windows XP SP2
3. An Android 2.3 Mobile phone
I can directly connect the wire from modem to laptop and browse internet - it works. But that is not a wireless network. It proves that BSNL modem alone works.make this network Wireless by using the CompUSA wireless router.
1. The connection set up is as follows:
BSNL TeraCom Modem (LAN 1) ----- wired connection ----- COMPUSA Router (WAN)...... Wireless ....... laptop
2. I can connect to the wireless router by typing 192.168.2.1 in internet browser. Here are the details of wireless router settings
WAN>PPPoE
Use PPPoE Authentication

I have asked this question to an internet service provider and 2 different techs at two differnt computer stores and no one has an answer for me. What is happening is just a few computers you plug them into dsl just through the modem the phone company uses and you cannont get on the internet, you get no internet connection, But you plug the same computer into a router that is connected even to the same modem to get the dsl and it will work right away. Now I understand that the router acts as a dhcp server and the computer is getting its ip address from it, but why won't it pick up one from the modem without the router? When this happens and it is not very often you can use the same modem with the same cabling and plug in another computer and it will get online right away so it is not the modem that is bad and not the cabling.
We had this problem about a year ago with like 5 computers. would not get on dsl, online through the telephone companies modem how ever you would use the same modem and plug it into a router and you could get online right away. At that time the telephone company had a real old DHCP server and the date and time and everything was wrong on it I suppose the battery was bad but they did away with it and use a differnt one going through Netins internet service provider. At that time before they did away with the dhcp server I had called netins and told them the problem they didn't no what was wrong and like I said I spoke with two other techs from two other computer stores and they had never heard of the problem, well now he is having the same problem with two laptops, I was just there today and saw they couldn't get online but you could plug another laptop into the same modem and it would get online with no problem, I took the laptop home and hooked it through my router and it got online right away. So I told him I tnought it was something with there dhcp server that the laptop wasn't getting an ip address from it but then why would another laptop getting plugged into the same modem in a few min get right online.
does my router have to be hardwired into my modem in order for my router/ computer setup which is located one room over from the cable modem

View 6 Replies View RelatedI cannot get my computer to recognize my Netgear WNR1000. I have called Netgear to explain the issue and was on the phone with them for 45 minutes. They did get the laptop to work but my desktop still does not. They told me it was a browser error. If I disconnect the ethernet cable from the router to my computer everything works perfect.I tried to reinstall the CD that came with the router and as I try to get through step 2 it says no router detected.I think this is my hold up but I have no way to know how to fix this. I tried to go on the Netgear website and they tell me that I have to be able to connect to the internet to download through the router. Well I can't do that because obviously that is the hangup. If I click on my Network Connections. It shows my computer connected to a Network with limited capability and then a big red X going to the internet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo about a month ago I made the switch from AT&T to Charter and had a ton of problems those first 2 days getting it running, then after that it was running just fine until today.Last night it randomly stopped working, but I didn't want to fix it at the time(to tired).
It seems like when the modem does a restart it won't work with my router unless I disconnect all the ethernet cords going out of the router except the one going to the modem. And once I verify a connection(router has a light) I can connect the other ethernet cords and everything will function just right. So I fixed it this morning and about 30 minutes later it stopped working again. I don't know what's causing it to stop working, it seems like the modem is resetting and then I have to do what I described above. And then after that it shortened to about 5 minutes later.
My router is the LevelOne WBR-6002.
The modem is a Cisco DPC3008.Here's the Cisco page:

Model: Cisco DPC3008

We have a Cisco 3825 router which does not work well with a DSL modem(ISP provided). I have configured the Gi0/0 port of the router to plug into this DSL modem but it does not ping to the ISP gateway. If we do a shut/no shut on the interface then it work fine for about 30 secs. Sometimes even for 1 hr. Then the packets drop and we cannot pass any traffic through this interface. Now, if the ISP connection is terminated on a computer it works fine. It works fine without dropping any packet. I have tried various options like using a straight/cross cable. I have tried to configure the interface negotiation for 100/full, 100/half, auto/auto and almost all the options. I have also tried to interconnect the devices using a L2 device like a HUB. Nothing works.

Wireless router model is CISCO Linksys E2000.I tried to download Cisco Connect Setup Software for PC and followed the step until one point it asked for my wireless username and password and I put them in correctly but it said my router was not successfully set up and failed. I should press the reset button and set the router to factory default mode, but I'm afraid I won't be able to set it up properly after doing so.What should I do to connect my new modem and wireless router properly so I have wireless internet access?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows xp pc that is running as a server that is networked with a windows 7 pc. Both are connected through a switch. Here is the diagram.
Both Pc's--->Switch--->Wired Router--->Wireless router/modem--->Phone line box.
I am running embarq high speed internet. I also have a network printer that follows the route as the pc's but has its own port.I used to have the 2 pc's networked to share a folder on the xp machine. Came in one day, and now the shared folder cannot be located by the Windows 7 machine. I have tried to run setup wizard for network over and over and cannot get any results. I can map the drive on the xp machine but it doesnt show up on the 7 machine, or I am just not able to locate it under my computers.
My computer has today 3x2 TB WD Green disks and thay are really slowing my system down so now I need to move them to somekind of NAS.I was first lookin at the "Synology Disk Station DS411j" but then I found that I got some old hardware laying around (AMD 3200+ CPU, 1 GB ram,XFX GeForce 7600GT, Seasonic SS-300FT in a Thermaltake Xaser II chassi). So now I got some questions :
1. I was looking into running FreeNas on my NAS but if the NAS is crashing then it will be alot of work to get the data back? Is it right that its not possible to just mount a drive from the FreeNas in to my Windows7 computer and read the data?
2. If I install Windows 2008(not r2 that demands 64bits CPU) and then uses dynamic volums to get one big volume, what will happen if this Windows2008 craches? will it be able to place one of the disks in my windows7 computer and reda the data?
3. What happens if one disk i a dynamicvolume craches? will all data be lost?
4. Is there any sleepmode in Windows2008? If would be nice if the computer shutsdown at night and startsup when it is about to be used.
5. Will a finished product like the "Synology Disk Station DS411j" demand less power? Will I earn anything to buy the DS411j instead of my old hardware if we look on the economics?
I tried restarting the router and the computer, but to no avail. I've also tried with another ethernet cable and tried several ports, but that did not work, either. What is interesting is that other computers in the household connect to the router via wire without problems. I suppose that means something's wrong with my computer, however, I do not know what. I have a netgear router which says "N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN2200v3" on the back. My computer has Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I'm using a DSL connection, and Avast! antivirus.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs we all know, MS has changed the default workgroup names in different versions of windows. Additionally, you can rename your workgroup anything you like. I have XP, Vista, and Win7 computers, a television, BluRay player, a Wii, two printers, and a NAS with two USB drives attached. All of these -except the Win7- are wired to one of two switches. I have wireless: iPad, the Win7 notebook, Nintendo DSs. I have friend, and non-friend machines (computers, tablets, and phones) that come and go that are wired or wireless. The 3 windows computers all have the same workgroup name. All of my other units do not use workgroup names. I have a router, and two unmanaged switches, and have, on occasion, a second router. The main router, which has wired, and dual band wireless (each with two named wireless networks) nets, sees everything, by name and/or MAC address. Win7 is blind, deaf, and dumb.: it shows its own workgroup name, but no other workgroup name(s) , and, consequently, no unit on these other workgroups. It will show some wired units not in a workgroups - the television, and the printers (not the Wii or NAS). It will not show the wired XP computer! No wireless units either in workgroups or not in workgroups appear. Additionally, Win7 only shows units on its wireless network, not on the other three. The wired units it does show are not on any of the wireless networks, though it lists them on its wireless network.I have left the Homegroup, and terminated the Homegroup services. I have allowed discovery, and unlimited sharing of everything on every computer on the router, and yet the Win7 unit does not share or see well at all. Why?

WifiMAX Dongle 802.11g 2.0 (also old) (Sometimes blinks at intervals)
TrendNET TEW-644UB (bought last year) (Light stays on/no longer blinks)
Netgear WNA3100 (arrived just a few hours ago) (I made it blink now with its software)
I have tried(netgear):
-rebooting
-installing/uninstalling drivers
-uninstalling itunes
-Using a W8 procedure for it
-tried using different software
-Some other stuff
I have not tried a HKEY codes for it My biggest problem is that the "Disabled" status is stuck and I cannot re-enable it. If there is a way to override this I would be happy to hear it. I have the version 3xxx adapter yet I can't get it to work at all.
I've tried letting windows see it, manually pick drivers from the file I download, that doesn't work. I've tried using the installer and that only makes things worse. IT SAYS IT SUPPORTS 64bit 7!
I have a WUSB11 v2.8 laying around but that is even worse looking 64bit driver wise.
