View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst time VPN newbie. I need to set up vpn for a friends small business using RV082 so, as a test, I set it up here at my home using a very basic config. The network topology looks like:
cloud => cable modem => RV082 => DIR655 => win7 PC
At a remote site, I fire up QUICKVPN, enter necessary data and successfully connect. Bring up Remote Desktop and put in the IP of my home pc and the logon username and, after a minute or two, it says "unable to connect to the computer" (or words to that effect). My home PC has been configured to allow remote desktop connections and this has occured in the past but not since the RV082 installation. There is nothing in the PC's logs nor in the RV082's logs.
Continued from [URL] which appears to have been closed by a moderator with a reference to Cisco small business website, but the registration there doesn't work, all buttons are inactive etc.
I just need to know what to do with this RV042. I have two modems, a cable and an ADSL. Both are configure correctly, in bridge mode. Both work fine when connected to WAN1, but when connected to WAN2 they never go online (dont' get IP address). The connect lights are on but they never go online.

I'm trying to fix the network at a student housing building and the system is kind of a mess. We bought a new E4200 to replace our old Linksys router which no one knows the admin pw to. We have four switches for 50 connections throughout the four story house and when switching the connections over to the new E4200 all of the wired connections no longer work. Switch back to the old router and presto. How do I need to change the settings with the E4200 to get it to work?
Also, as it's a thick old house the E4200's wireless only covers maybe half of it...I purchased two wireless repeaters to put on the 3rd and 4th floors, are these simple to install with the router?
How to set up RVS4000 QOS settings to work with a VOIP phone system? I need to get the QOS active on the VPN so that a remote office with VOIP phones can reach the PBX at the main office over the Internet connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a brand new wireless router and made it the first in line with my cable modem. This is necessary because I want to take advantage of all the features in the new router. I put the RTP300 behind the first router and switched off DHCP and connected the internet port into one of the 4 regular ports on the back (typical configuration for a pass through router). So everything works perfectly for any computer attached to the router (they can access the internet etc). The only problem I have is the VOIP doesn't work. If I pick up my phone it says this device is not registered to a phone number.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried restarting the router and the computer, but to no avail. I've also tried with another ethernet cable and tried several ports, but that did not work, either. What is interesting is that other computers in the household connect to the router via wire without problems. I suppose that means something's wrong with my computer, however, I do not know what. I have a netgear router which says "N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN2200v3" on the back. My computer has Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I'm using a DSL connection, and Avast! antivirus.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently borrowed a friend's desktop and I am having issues with connecting with the router through an ethernet cable. I go to troubleshoot the problem and I get "Local Area Connection 2 doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Its nothing with the router because when I plug my laptop in with the same ethernet cable, I am able to connect perfectly.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI have a wired BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 firmware. It has been working fine with several varieties of W98SE, W2000, and XP machines over the years. When I installed VMWare a couple years ago, I noticed that the Vista VM didn't connect to the router. Since I was just testing some local stuff, I didn't bother to investigate or resolve the problem. Now I have a new HP Windows 7 machine, and it doesn't connect when connected to the router. The diagnostic doesn't think the cable is plugged in. When I plug the DSL modem directly into the W7 box, I can connect to the internet just fine. Also, I notice that when I plug the modem into the W7 box, there are some LEDs that flash on the network card inside the box.
However, when I plug the cable from the router (the same one that normally works fine with the XP machine) into the Windows 7 box, none of the LEDs on the network card flash. This is probably a hint that things aren't working.
I tried disabling the IPv6 protocol. That didn't work. I have the latest firmware for the V2.1 according to the Linksys support site. I tried a different cable. I tried several resets from the pinhole in the front of the router, several power cycles, and reboots of the W7 box.So I'm guessing that the BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 is incompatible with Vista and Windows 7.
Recently I sold a rv082 router to a client. He uses a Windows XP environment to dail in using QuickVPN.A week ago an office admin wanted to connect using Windows 7 and it does not work. The client starts do dial and connects but the connection does not work. The admin does not use a router and there is no active software firewall.

Just got TL-MR3040 from amazon, not very happy that it is version 1, they could at least mention it in the description, but whatever...The problem is, i can not make it work with my PC laptop(thinkpad x120e with Windows 7 64 bit). Which means,1 not possible to get into web interface to configure it, and 2 if i configure it with old powerbook (os x 10.4) to share internet from usb stick, i can connect to it's wireless network but it doesn't share internet with my pc laptop, while mac and ipad working perfect...I've try to log in into web interface through the cable, still no luck...Not sure i want to re-install the whole system on my laptop just to see if it will change anything, it works with any other router, and usb sticks...
I have a home network that uses a DLINK DIR-655 router. All of my devices ( a mix of wireless and wired) except one--a windows xp SP 3 desktop that stopped working yesterday. Some viruses, and adware were detected and it has not worked since then. What I have done.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to access a VPN hosted on Windows 2003 Server using my Windows 7 SP1 / 64 bit laptop. I can establish the connection and even open Outlook and connect to the exchange server on the remote network. It seems that whenever I try to move files up or down or open Internet Explorer, the following sequence of events happens:
1) Connection between my local router (BEFRS41) and the internet is dropped.
2) The IP address on my local network adaptor changes to an unknown number (169.254.180.72) - is normally 192.168.1.104
3) The VPN connection drops and attempts to re-dial, but of course fails because my connection tot he internet has been broken.
Since I'm accessing rather than hosting the VPN, I'm not sure if I have to adjust any of the router settings.
I have been able to play streaming video via Windows Media Player with no problems for just about forever until last month. No software has changed. i have the latest firmware (2.39.2e) for the router. i am able to play the same videos when i use my AT&T data connection or when i am connected at work, ,so i know it's not the files i'm trying to view. WMP fails to play whether i am hard connected or wirelessly connected.

When i first got my comp, i didn't have the money for a long ethernet cable, so my friend gave me his wireless adaptor. I've been wanting to switch as i now have a cable that connects to my xbox from my router and i can switch from xbox to computer, but when i plug it in and undo the wireless adaptor my computer doesn't register that there is any internet at all. View 8 Replies View RelatedI tried to set up a wireless router yesterday and when trying to connect with my laptop it had limited or no connectivity. I tried a few things but I couldn't get it to work so i switched back to my wired connection. Trying to set up the wireless router is not my concern though at the moment. Now my desktop can connect to the internet but my laptop and ps3 can not obtain an ip address. My desktop does not have a wireless card, thats the only thing I can think of why it will work when the other devices dont.
Right now I have my cable modem hooked up to a D-Link switch with my desktop and laptop connected. The desktop can connect and I get a limited or no activity with my laptop. I have reset the modem multiple times, restarted computers, Right clicked on my connection and tried to repair it, connect the laptop straight to the modem and did all of the above again. The IP and DNS are set to obtain automatically. Nothing is working that I know of but I can plug in my desktop and its up and going in 2 seconds.
The router was a very old one given to me from a friend. Its a Linksys V1. It is not connect to anything or even on now. The last time I tried to use this router I didn't get it to work and this same thing happened. I took it into work the next day and they were able to connect via wireless and wired using my D-Link switch. When I got home it work again just fine.
Just 2 days ago I realized that the wired connection will not let me connect to the internet at all. However, I have a wireless connection and it lets me connect to the internet. I don't like using the wireless connection unless necessary. I tried updating the drivers and troubleshooting, and it still won't connect. It still has that exclamation mark for the wired connection. I use a Windows 7 laptop.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have the e4200 and I am having trouble getting DHCP reservation to work properly with my Windows 7 machines. Perhaps there is a step that I am missing. Basically I go to the DHCP reservation setup page, select my machine and add it to the reservation table. Then I save the changes. As soon as I do this my computer goes offline. If I reboot my machine, it is still offline. I've tried the same procedure to reserve the IP address for my phone and it works fine so I wonder if the problem is with Win7.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two computers sharing files connected by a wired lan via an Ethernet card. Both are using XP home sp2 OS and neither of them had any Internet connection. I wanted to make one of them connect to a wireless printer so I added an Asus USB (wireless) dongle to that machine only. When first used the dongle sprang into life, connected to a wireless router in another part of the building (also mine, but nothing to do with this network) and downloaded a load of MS updates. Whilst an Internet connection was not really needed on that machine I thought 'all well and good', and proceeded to download MS Security Essentials onto that machine only. Once the printer software was installed on that computer it connected normally with the wireless printer and printed-out fine.It was only when I attempted to connect to the other computer via the hard-wired lan that I found that the connection between them was broken.

I ran the diagnostics and it said that my cable was not plugged in...it was. I rebooted, reseated cables, etc. with no luck. I reset the cable modem and router, reseated cables, rebooted, etc with no luck. I plugged the cable into a laptop and it worked fine.
The diagnostics tools on the desktop indicate there are no issues with the network adapter and that it is allegedly working fine. What I have noticed is that the light indicators on the RJ45 jack on the back are steady state yellow and orange, regardless of whether there is a cable plugged into it.
Im having a issue with that any of my computers without a wireless connection have been incapable of getting out on the internet with the new router that i got myself, i know the cables works etc, since they work perfectly fine with the old modem alone, but wont work at all with this unless on a computer with wireless connection
View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday. Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues. Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected. When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms. They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's. I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference. I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support. We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.

I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with a wired BEFSR41 that, for a variety of reasons, MUST be manually IP configured (DHCP off). All computers and other devices connected to it are manually IP configured. I desire to add a device that cannot be manually configured, and needs DHCP. I therefore need to daisy-chain two routers with the second one DHCP on (and manual IP connection to the main network). The new device needs two-way internet access, but doesn't care if it sees any other current network devices. I've tried several configurations, none seem to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a WAP54G in my basement shop, wired to our main router upstairs, which is a Linksys BEFSR81. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the WAP or the router.
I only use the laptop computer in the shop every couple of days, but I leave the laptop plugged in and on most of the time. I used to have the power settings such that it didn't power down completely even after a long time. With that setup, if i didn't use the computer for several days, it would find that the connection to the router had died. The wireless link would report that it had a solid connection, but I couldn't connect to anything. Power cycling the WAP always fixed this.
Recently, I decided to save some wear & tear on the laptop drive, and adjusted the power settings to go to standby after a couple of hours. Now, it seems I can't even go one day without losing my connection.
I am running the latest frimware in the WAP, and the router is version 3.1. I can't check the firmware version on the router at the moment, because the web interface is giving me a blank screen. I know from past experience that I will have to power cycle it to get it to talk to me again.
In any event, it seems like the router connection to the WAP is timing out. I set the router "client lease time" up to 10000 a while back when I first had this problem, but that is clearly not doing the trick.
