why Windows Backup in Windows 7 pro 64 would not backup over the network to a drive I have connected to the 4200s USB port? Everytime I run it I get a Access Denied error at the end, even though data has been transfered. After about 5 hours of searching both here and Microsoft's website, I just get lots of people with the same issue that hasnt been resolved anywhere consistantly.
View 1 RepliesI have the e4200 and I am having trouble getting DHCP reservation to work properly with my Windows 7 machines. Perhaps there is a step that I am missing. Basically I go to the DHCP reservation setup page, select my machine and add it to the reservation table. Then I save the changes. As soon as I do this my computer goes offline. If I reboot my machine, it is still offline. I've tried the same procedure to reserve the IP address for my phone and it works fine so I wonder if the problem is with Win7.
View 6 Replies View Related I have a 1.5 TB USB hard drive attached to me E4200. Configuring it so that multiple computers have access and can read and write their files is quite simple. I've followed the instructions and had no difficulty.
My problem is this, after about a week's time has passed any file that has been on the hard drive for more than a week become undeletable. Any attempt to modify it or remove it pops up a message saying I need permission from a specific user (always the user that I am currently logged in as!) to perform the operation on the file.
When this starts to happen, the device is, otherwise, perfectly functional. I will still be able to create new files and delete any newly created files from the drive without difficulty even when those files are in the same directory as the files that the device will no longer let me edit. Examination of the file properties dialog shows that the files that the device refuses to allow me to delete are identical in every way to any new file that I create. Yet newly created files are removable but these older files ... are not.
I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that the HDD mounting feature of the device just doesn't actually work as advertised.
FWIW: all my computers are using Windows 7 with the latest build. I do access the device from these computers wirelessly.
Since lion is there for a while, it is still not possible to make a time machine backup on an USB hdd that's connected to the router. is Cisco coming with an firmware update?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new Polycom Soundpoint IP550 VOIP phone that was not connecting via my old WRT54GS router. I purchased a new router, the E4200, thinking it was just the age of my original router. It also will not allow the VOIP traffic through. I can connect the VOIP phone directly to my CenturyLink modem and it works. But when I connect it back to the router it stops.
I contacted Cisco support and they had me upgrade the firmware to 1.0.02 build 13 May 24, 2011 version. Also adjusted down the MTU to 1364. That still did not work so they told me to take the router back to the store. I have not done that yet as I want to ensure that the router is really broken and not that I am missing a setting. The tech said that I should be able to plug the VOIP phone into the router and make NO additional changes.
I just purchased a new E4200 router. When I try to set it up, , it says that my software (Lion v. 10.7.2) is unsupported. Is there a download that will allow me to use this router?

I had this working on my Linksys WRT160N and copied all of the settings so they are identical to those on that router but forwarding does not work. I have tried single port forwarding, multiple port forwarding and even DMZ with the same lack of results.

I can't pull up the IP on a browser window or ping it successfully.The 4050 doesn't have USB capability and I don't want to use the parallel port on my PC unless I have to.If possible, I'd like to have wireless computers on the network be able to print to it as well.

My Canon MX882 multifunction printer is connected to the router via USB cable. The printer works. The scanner does not work.
I have tried both old firmware (2.37) then the Cloud firmware and now back to 2.37 again. the parental controls seems kind of fool proof but anyhow they dont work for me.If I set the internet access as denied at certain times, if the client is already connected when that time occours, it can continue to use internet (until it disconnects and tries to reconnect). Happens almost every time. And the biggest problem is that if I try to block internet access for a device like a cell phone, even though the user can not access the internet through the web browser, apps like Facebook, games etc can still access internet. Kind of useless parental control?!But I have tried to reset, reflash etc.Also I find this router pretty unstable, the only device that works flawless is my iPad (3), the laptops and cell phones at home loses internet connection every one and then, even though it seems like they have good connection to the router. Never been a problem with my earlier routers.

I have an E4200 and I can not get WoL to work over the internet.(I'm assuming it's not actually going out to the internet when I wirelessly wake it using shawn.dynamicservice.com and the subnet, but rather the DDNS name is being resolved through the ARP cache, but I don't know. I'm still learning) Consequently, if the sentence above in parenthesis is correct, I am unable to perform WoL from outside my LAN. What am I missing?

We bought a new E4200 to replace our old Linksys router which no one knows the admin pw to. We have four switches for 50 connections throughout the four story house and when switching the connections over to the new E4200 all of the wired connections no longer work. Switch back to the old router and presto. How do I need to change the settings with the E4200 to get it to work?
Also, as it's a thick old house the E4200's wireless only covers maybe half of it...I purchased two wireless repeaters to put on the 3rd and 4th floors, are these simple to install with the router?
I just got the e4200 the other day and everything has been great except I can't seem to get my ABS megacam 4 ethernet camera to work.It was working fine with my old router, and if I plug directly into it it works, but I can't access it through the router at all. I can see the camera in my routers client list, the camera is set to DHCP and it is assigning it an IP address but I can't connect to it. From my desktop pc (wired) I can using the IPwizard software that came with the camera and it will see the camera on the network but it wont connect to it, my wireless clients can't even see the camera using the same software.

One issue I cannot seem to find a workaround for is the wifi bandwidth problem.I have a 100/10 mbitl internet connection. The router claims to support 300/450 mbit speeds over wifi, so that should be plenty. in reality however, that isnt so.Even though my N-standard wifi adapter on my machine states it has a 130 mbit connection to the router, I consistently test the internet throughput when using wifi and speedtest.net to around 20-21 mbit. If I put in a cable, I instantly get full speed, 100/10 mbit.
Have to add; I am not new to the networking game, I have a CCNA and a degree in computer sciences, and work with hosting web sites using cloud tech every day. At this point, I have tried everything related to settings on the router, so I can only conclude that there's some kind of bug in the firmware. I would expect the standard firmware to work, and not having to install DDWRT or other custom firmware.
I'm just about to trade-in an E4200v2 for a E4200v1, primarily to regain the "Internet Access Policy" capability.
Just wanted to do a reality check with those of you who tried/use IAP... does it work basically as advertised?
I would be using IAP to specify MAC addr's of devices, blocking them from certain URL's and limiting their hours of Internet access.
And I plan to have Linksys's DHCP Server turned OFF, since my Windows Server handles DHCP on my network.
Should I expect all of this to work OK? No major reliability problems with IAP?
I have a E4200 v1, connected with a few PCs by ethernet ports and various devices by wifi. Now the wireless devices work perfectly but sometimes the PC via ethernet ports cannot connect to LAN and internet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my new E4200v2, after I tried to move beyond the disappointment of Cisco removing Internet Access Policy entirely, I decided to give the stripped down Parental Controls a try.
Sadly, I didn't have any luck doing what I needed to do... block my Tivo's from accessing Youtube.
I enabled Parental Controls, Added the Target Devices (my Tivo's did show up), and added "Youtube.com" as blocked site #1. Saved. Entered the parental password when prompted. Even rebooted the router.
But Youtube wasn't blocked. So I added to the target list a non-Tivo device (a Macbook) for a reality check, and rebooted the router again... still no luck. Youtube still not blocked.
So then I started to wonder if their Parental Control depends somehow on the local DHCP server & Client list. Because my E4200 has DHCP Server = OFF (I have always used a Windows Server for DHCP).
I tried to call Linksys support to get this working, but after 45 mins, including escalation to senior engineer, they really were pretty useless (no real familiariarity with my problem) then they disconnected my call!
I have Linksys configured with IP 192.168.0.x and my local network ip 192.168.1.x have firewall connected to Adtrans box that gives us internet access via T1 line and other port is connected to the switch. Wireless router is connected to the switch using internet port.I can connect to wireless using iphone but emails don't work when connected to wireless. They are all in bridged mode, however when I attempt to enable the guest network on each of them, the config shows it as active, but it never shows up as visiible SSID. In previous posts, I've seen people saying that I need to do a complete hard reset of the router and re-enter all the configs again to get the guest network active. Is this true? I'd hate to think that I have to hard reset and reconfigure all three of these APs, just to get the guest network enabled.

It worked perfectly. Now I have upgraded to a new MacBook Air. The internet connection works fine, but printing won't work. Same printer. Same connections.
Do I need to refresh/reboot something? My new Mac has the printer driver. I get a message "printer if offline" "printer is not connected" -I feel like the router now does not recognize the new Mac's command to print.The older macbook air still works and prints wirelessly. The new one does not.

Based on that experience I upgraded to a e4200.But so far it's not living up to my expectations (media server not probably working with external harddisk, no advanced logging of incoming/outgoing traffic, connection problems) and I'm getting pretty frustrated with it.Problem right now is that one of my laptops with Windows 7 is often not connecting correctly to the wireless network of the e4200. It's giving a "unidentified network" error. Rebooting computer and router is not working. The computer is (always) reliable connecting to another wireless network in my home. Most functions work well. 4 wireless computers (1 Macbook, 3 Win 7), 1 wireless android, 1 wired Win7 computer, 1 ethernet connected hard drive, 1 ethernet connected printer. All computers can ping router, access hard drive, access internet, ping android and ping Macbook.However, router, nor any computer, can't ping Win7 computers. Apparently IP based connections between WinX computers is blocked. My real applications are to Remote Desktop Connect from 1 Win7 computer to another, or to run a DLNA music server on 1 Win7 computer, accessed by another. (the LAN connected computer is the server, accessed by a wLAN client. All worked fine on WRT54G router, but can't connect thru E4200. When these apps failed, I tried PING, and that failed as well.All computer's IP addresses are properly served from E4200 via DHCP, and are visible thru the router's DHCP Reservation panel.

I just wanted to note that the 3.2.7 driver obtained from Windows Update doesn't work well, drops connections and takes longer to establish a connection. Since it may be the config that is at issue, I don't want to do a backup/resote, rather I plan to do a full factory reset and manully type everything back in.What would be nice is, creating a text based, human readable printout of the config for reference so that I don't have to manually type it all twice (once to save it, once for reentry). PS3 ports, MAC filters, etc. have several entries, and they way the pages are designed it doesn't allow for easy, whole entry, cut and paste.
