A week ago, my desktop (with Windows 7) stopped connecting to the internet over it's wireless connection. It would connect to the router and obtain an IP address, but couldn't connect to the internet. All other devices in my home can connect just fine. Through the course of trouble shooting I found out that I can't connect to the internet with my desktop using a wired connection either. Also, I'm using ATT, so the modem and router are 1 unit.
Here's what I have tried:
Reinstalling the drivers.Resetting the wireless router to factory settings.Changing the security settings on the router.Running netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log ;netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log; netsh winsock reset catalog and restarting TCP/IP v4 and v6 are set to get automatically Made sure MAC address wasn't being blocked on router. I tried disabling ipv6 I can ping myself (@ 127.0.0.1) and no packets are lost. I tried pinging my ip address from the router, and nothing got through. This was true using wired or wireless. I tried connecting to the routers configuration page (using its IP address) and I couldn't. Did a virus scan and nothing turned up.
My cable modem works fine when not running through the router. However, when running through the router, the internet won't work.I tried unplugging the power and plugging it back in, as well as holding down the reset button for 30 seconds, but nothing worked.

My current setup: NetGear Wireless router is connected to my D-Link wired router, and I can access the internet no problem. (10 MBPS down, 5MBPS up)When I try to connect the 360 to the Netgear Wireless router, it connects to the Network, but Internet test it reads "DNS error - The router or modem may mot be automatically providing DNS settings. Try a manual DNS setting instead."(Next suggestion) "DNS Error - If you have a PC that can successfully browse the web, check it's network properties to find the DNS address it uses..."Now, I have XBMC running on my computer, and the 360 can access the network so it shows up under Video Apps so I can see a file list to stream movies. When I try to run a movie, it says I must download an update - so I can't watch the movies at all.I juso set it up so I can access the Network AND Internet.Again, Netgear wireless router (which 360 connects to) connected to D-Link wired router.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI upgraded the firmware on my BEFS41 v4.3 to the Ver.2.00.4 Build 8, off the cisco website. After I received the successfully upgraded message, I could no longer connect to the internet, nor could I connect to the router's configuration page. I tried to do a few hard resets and connecting it to other computers to see any other computers could connect to it, no luck. I tried connecting one computer just to the router, without the internet plugged in, and tried to ping 192.168.1.1 but I received a "transmit failed, error code 1231." Is there anyway I can access this and change the firmware, or am I screwed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy BEFSR81 router has never been a problem for over 10 years. All of a sudden I can not connect to the internet..I only use the router for connecting 2 PCs to the internet modem. I have not changed any configuration. tried my IPS COX recommendation to disconnect the power for about 1 minute then try again with no luck. CoX said they tried pinging my router but could not get a reading. While waiting for them to come up with a solution, I hooked one of my PCs directly to the modem. It worked. So I tried it with the other PC. But it didn't work right away. It kept trying to dial up for a connection. I finally got the WIZARD to get it configured correctly. I assume it must be a router problem because either one of my PCs can get an internet connection when hooked to the modem. I did not pusue any further with COX, THEIR AUTOMATED TROUBLE SHOOTER WAS GETTING ON MY NERVES.Should I take the time to resolve the issue with the router or buy a new or refurbished router? If the task isn't too complicatged, I am willing to try and fix it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI thought that all my problems would be solved when I recently bought the Belkin Play router with dd-wrt 24 sp2 (build 18050M) firmware. It was only a partial success.
My situation is the following: a neighbor on the other side of the street has wifi, which he is willing to share. But it barely reaches my house. So I thought I would solve the problem by installing my Belkin Play as a repeater bridge, so I could connect my PC to it by cable while also connecting my mobile devices.

For some inexplicable reason my router connected for a while but then, seemingly for no reason, disconnected. I wanted to figure out why that was and tried setting my PC's IP address to 192.168.1.5. This way I was able to connect to my router but still unable to connect to the internet. Interestingly enough, when I take my laptop close to the window, I can connect to the original network with internet access.
When I turned my computer on this morning, it had no internet access.
I haven't changed any settings - I think there was a Windows Update though.
Windows 8, Intel 82579V.
The DNS settings are correct, that is, unchanged and what we have always used.
I can access the network fine, browse shares, see the other machines etc. but the network icon in system tray says "No Internet access.".
I can ping the gateway.
All other computers on the network have Internet access.
The network cable works and provides internet access when plugged into a different computer.
I have tried disabling IPv6. I have tried disabling/enabling the network connection. I have restarted Windows multiple times. I have tried disabling Windows Firewall.
I am at a complete loss as to what to try next.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my HDD (needed to do that anyway) and re-installed Windows 7 and all drivers (Chipset 1st) from my Dell CD after messing up a recovery test.
Everything seemed fine. But now, when I am surfing the Internet, I sometimes lose the connection. The icon in the Taskbar has a yellow exclamation point. (This does not happen in Slackware on the same machine, just in Windows 7.)
The first time this happened, I couldn't ping my router, so I checked all cables, cable modem, and router. But they were all fine and my other (really old desktop running Puppy Linux) was still connected fine and could surf to new web pages.
I did "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" on the Dell in Windows 7 and the NIC got the correct IP address and gateway. Now I could ping the router, but I could not ping the Internet, which didn't make any sense, since the other computer was accessing the Internet just fine on the same router! (No IP address confilict exists, and gateway was correct on both machines.) I tried updating the driver, but no new drivers were found. This first time, the issue was resolved by rebooting Windows 7. I also unchecked the setting to turn off the NIC to save power. (I just checked the USB hubs per another post, and it's also unchecked.)
The second time this happened, "ipconfig /renew" failed! I set everything manually (including DNS servers), and on reboot, it still wasn't working. I did a complete shutdown of the computer and startup, now it works again.
So here I am looking for a new driver (64-bit, signed). Not only is there not a new driver...they don't even list the current driver! The only one listed is from March 2010, my driver is June 2011. Current driver is version 7.46.610.2011. Where is there a newer Realtek driver? And why are this things so buggy more than a year after 7 came out, especially if these are supposedly signed by Microsoft?

my laptop, as well as my moms laptop, were working perfectly fine on wedensday. Yesterday however, i was randomly getting kicked off the internet, and i came to realize that whenever both of our laptops were on, only one could connect to the internet. the other one couldn't find the DNS server or whatever.so, after some frustration windows finally told me (on my laptop) that two computers were sharing the same ip address on my network. made sense i guess. so i went to CMD, typed ipconfig /release on my laptop, but it said media was disconnected so it didn't work. i then went onto my moms laptop, typed the same thing in CMD, and it released it fine. but then her battery died so i plugged it in to renew her ip.
once her computer got enough of a charge to turn on i went to cmd and typed ipconfig /renew, but it wouldn't renew it, saying media was disconnected. so, now her laptop and my laptop will not connect to wireless.on my laptop, i transfered my documents to another HDD and did a fresh install of windows. but even since, my laptop will not connect to the internet. when i trouble shoot it it says something about no networking drivers are installed, but i can't even install drivers because i have no internet im on her laptop right now, it will connect via ethernet cable.
My friend's wireless internet just suddenly failed last night. She was watching Youtube videos, but had to do something, so she closed the window. When she came back, she couldn't connect, and was given an error, something about user connectivity. Her wired connection is still working.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI have a wired BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 firmware. It has been working fine with several varieties of W98SE, W2000, and XP machines over the years. When I installed VMWare a couple years ago, I noticed that the Vista VM didn't connect to the router. Since I was just testing some local stuff, I didn't bother to investigate or resolve the problem. Now I have a new HP Windows 7 machine, and it doesn't connect when connected to the router. The diagnostic doesn't think the cable is plugged in. When I plug the DSL modem directly into the W7 box, I can connect to the internet just fine. Also, I notice that when I plug the modem into the W7 box, there are some LEDs that flash on the network card inside the box.
However, when I plug the cable from the router (the same one that normally works fine with the XP machine) into the Windows 7 box, none of the LEDs on the network card flash. This is probably a hint that things aren't working.
I tried disabling the IPv6 protocol. That didn't work. I have the latest firmware for the V2.1 according to the Linksys support site. I tried a different cable. I tried several resets from the pinhole in the front of the router, several power cycles, and reboots of the W7 box.So I'm guessing that the BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 is incompatible with Vista and Windows 7.
