I turned on my computer an tried to connect to the internet and it says that it cannot detect any internet connections. I don't understand why it says this because it is connected through the Ethernet.
View 19 RepliesI connected the router to the modem with an ethernet cable and the laptop to the router with another ethernet cable. A CD came with a router (Router: Asus RT-N10), so I put that into the laptop and followed the setup. The setup offered me to install something called Wireless Router Utilities, so I followed the setup and got to the point where it asked me to connect all cables etc. I did it already, but it kept telling me that the cables aren't connected. "Unable to detect the wired connections" I decided to skip that step and opened the browser, typed in the IP and got to the other setup thing. I typed in my ISP user/pass and I guess it sorta worked. I want to configure the router etc., to pass it and all. I go to the control panel, setup new connection, type the router PIN, I name the network, I put a passkey, and I click next.It says "Setting up [network name]" and after a minute it says "The network set up was unsuccessful". And that's it. No error notes, no nothing, just a button which allows me to retry.The OS is Windows 7 Home Basic. It's a new computer so almost nothing is installed. No anti-virus etc. Router: Asus RT-N10. Modem: Billion BiPAC 5200RC ADSL2.

If not, can I force the vpn to connect wirelessly while staying wired to my home network and internet? Is it even possible to have both connections active at the same time? The DNS settings are correct, that is, unchanged and what we have always used.
I can access the network fine, browse shares, see the other machines etc. but the network icon in system tray says "No Internet access.".
I can ping the gateway.
All other computers on the network have Internet access.
The network cable works and provides internet access when plugged into a different computer.
I have tried disabling IPv6. I have tried disabling/enabling the network connection. I have restarted Windows multiple times. I have tried disabling Windows Firewall.
I am at a complete loss as to what to try next.

I have a home network that uses a DLINK DIR-655 router. All of my devices ( a mix of wireless and wired) except one--a windows xp SP 3 desktop that stopped working yesterday. Some viruses, and adware were detected and it has not worked since then. What I have done.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my HDD (needed to do that anyway) and re-installed Windows 7 and all drivers (Chipset 1st) from my Dell CD after messing up a recovery test.
Everything seemed fine. But now, when I am surfing the Internet, I sometimes lose the connection. The icon in the Taskbar has a yellow exclamation point. (This does not happen in Slackware on the same machine, just in Windows 7.)
The first time this happened, I couldn't ping my router, so I checked all cables, cable modem, and router. But they were all fine and my other (really old desktop running Puppy Linux) was still connected fine and could surf to new web pages.
I did "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" on the Dell in Windows 7 and the NIC got the correct IP address and gateway. Now I could ping the router, but I could not ping the Internet, which didn't make any sense, since the other computer was accessing the Internet just fine on the same router! (No IP address confilict exists, and gateway was correct on both machines.) I tried updating the driver, but no new drivers were found. This first time, the issue was resolved by rebooting Windows 7. I also unchecked the setting to turn off the NIC to save power. (I just checked the USB hubs per another post, and it's also unchecked.)
The second time this happened, "ipconfig /renew" failed! I set everything manually (including DNS servers), and on reboot, it still wasn't working. I did a complete shutdown of the computer and startup, now it works again.
So here I am looking for a new driver (64-bit, signed). Not only is there not a new driver...they don't even list the current driver! The only one listed is from March 2010, my driver is June 2011. Current driver is version 7.46.610.2011. Where is there a newer Realtek driver? And why are this things so buggy more than a year after 7 came out, especially if these are supposedly signed by Microsoft?

Right now, they cannot browse each other by computer name, instead I have to type their IP addresses (for example: \192.168.2.5) in the windows explorer address bar, and then I can browse to their shared folders. And under "Network" (in Windows Explorer) each computer only displays itself, and not the other (unless I have already typed in the other's IP address, in which case it displays the other computer as the IP address).

I ordered a refurbished Cisco AE2500 and tried for hours to get it to work to no avail. I can't quite rember everything I tried to get it to work, but I will try. When I try to install from the installation CD it will not detect the adapter. I tried to download the drivers from the internet, but windows did not recognize them. It would not connect to the router for some reason, and I thought it may have been because I set it to use the push to connect feature and the router did not have that feature, so, I uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall using just the stand alone windows driver and now my computer won't even detect it. I went through most of the things I went through with the first router again and nothing has worked

Well, my cable sometimes gets loose, so I tried to tighten it up a bit but that didn't work. I tried the cable with another computer and it works fine. I checked device manager and everything should be fine there.computer is running Windows 7 Professional.Drivers are up to date, and nothing changed in the computer since yesterday when it was still working. Recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, but frustratingly i cannot detect my network.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers so many times, got a red x next to my network connections in my start bar. Everything in device manager saying the device is running fine. I've got an Intel 82566DC -2 Gigabit Network Connection.
My laptop connects just fine but my Tower (Win 7) can only detect it. When I go to click on it, I see the message connecting... but its not even asking me to input the password.This pc did just get off an airplane so there is a small chance it could be damaged.

I had a virus called something like Cloud AV 2012 so I used Malware Bytes to remove it and it worked just fine. However, now the internet does not seem to work (there's that yellow triangle with the exclamation point) and when I try to run diagnostics, the message "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings" comes up. On my regular laptop, my internet icon has the yellow triangle and when I trouble shoot it, the message says "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings".Recently I noticed my computer was heating faster (and hotter) than usual so I ran a search again and it said no threats were found. I have ran the search twice since then and still nothing. I was advised to use ccleaner,malwarebytes, and Super Anti-Spyware. It removed one other threat but the problem was still there. I then started using combofix, but I did not like the look of it so I stopped that scan. It seemed a little sketchy. As of this morning, I'm having the internet problem. My old laptop (the one I'm on now) and my girlfriend's laptop work fine. I connected it with the Ethernet cord and that didn't change anything. I have Windows 7. It's on a 2010 Samsung (I'm not very tech savvy so I'm not sure about all the other details).

Once it was done, I tried connecting to the internet but the computer could not detect ANY wireless networks!I already know it is not the modem or router because I have a Macbook Pro and two HP laptops that connect perfectly fine to the modem. I also made sure the wireless is on. The laptop with the problem is a Toshiba Satellite l645. It's running on a 64-bit Windows 7.
