Win 7 Home Premium. My vpn connection to work disconnects my wired internet connection. Is there a way around that? If not, can I force the vpn to connect wirelessly while staying wired to my home network and internet? Is it even possible to have both connections active at the same time? Vista laptop uses only wireless and has no problem staying conected while using vpn.

However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

I haven't changed any settings - I think there was a Windows Update though.
Windows 8, Intel 82579V.
The DNS settings are correct, that is, unchanged and what we have always used.
I can access the network fine, browse shares, see the other machines etc. but the network icon in system tray says "No Internet access.".
I can ping the gateway.
All other computers on the network have Internet access.
The network cable works and provides internet access when plugged into a different computer.
I have tried disabling IPv6. I have tried disabling/enabling the network connection. I have restarted Windows multiple times. I have tried disabling Windows Firewall.
I am at a complete loss as to what to try next.

I have a home network that uses a DLINK DIR-655 router. All of my devices ( a mix of wireless and wired) except one--a windows xp SP 3 desktop that stopped working yesterday. Some viruses, and adware were detected and it has not worked since then. What I have done.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my HDD (needed to do that anyway) and re-installed Windows 7 and all drivers (Chipset 1st) from my Dell CD after messing up a recovery test.
Everything seemed fine. But now, when I am surfing the Internet, I sometimes lose the connection. The icon in the Taskbar has a yellow exclamation point. (This does not happen in Slackware on the same machine, just in Windows 7.)
The first time this happened, I couldn't ping my router, so I checked all cables, cable modem, and router. But they were all fine and my other (really old desktop running Puppy Linux) was still connected fine and could surf to new web pages.
I did "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" on the Dell in Windows 7 and the NIC got the correct IP address and gateway. Now I could ping the router, but I could not ping the Internet, which didn't make any sense, since the other computer was accessing the Internet just fine on the same router! (No IP address confilict exists, and gateway was correct on both machines.) I tried updating the driver, but no new drivers were found. This first time, the issue was resolved by rebooting Windows 7. I also unchecked the setting to turn off the NIC to save power. (I just checked the USB hubs per another post, and it's also unchecked.)
The second time this happened, "ipconfig /renew" failed! I set everything manually (including DNS servers), and on reboot, it still wasn't working. I did a complete shutdown of the computer and startup, now it works again.
So here I am looking for a new driver (64-bit, signed). Not only is there not a new driver...they don't even list the current driver! The only one listed is from March 2010, my driver is June 2011. Current driver is version 7.46.610.2011. Where is there a newer Realtek driver? And why are this things so buggy more than a year after 7 came out, especially if these are supposedly signed by Microsoft?

Got it thawed and it suddenly wanted to do loads of updates, so I let it. Apparently I was not careful enough & got the "XP antivirus 2012" malware.Eventually conquered that beast and installed avira free.almost immediately avira picked up on the "html/infected win.gen2" malware.I quarantined, deleted, scanned comp. w. avira, rkill, & malwarebytes. all scans came up clean but I now have no connectivity. wired conn. continually tries to acquire network address and w.less has limited or no.Not my router or modem as I have 2 home comps actively cnctd as I type this. Also tried multiple other networks w. same neg. results.After loads of searching and t/s'ing I believe I have found the root of the problem: When I look under "services" I found that "netbios helper", "Network Location Awareness" & "dhcp client" are all not started.
Trying to start them results in failure b/c some "dependencies are marked for deletion". the afore-mentioned 3 things are dependent upon the Netbios over tcpip and tcpip protocol driver. Those drivers are in the system32/drivers folder but I cannot find a "non plug and play" section in the device manager.Yes, I looked under "hidden devices" and I looked in every drop down. I successfully cmd: netsh int ip reset c: esetlog.txt but when I tried to reset winsock I got winsock is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.I have no reboot disk or thumb drive and bios is p/w'ed so I can't wipe the slate clean and start fresh. I'm having problem with windows sharing (file/printer sharing) from Wireless lan client which is connected to AP3500 and WLC 5508 then to Nexus 7010. I have the Dlink DIR-655, Rev-A, HW 1.35NA Wireless Router Before you ask, I have reset the router to factory defaults, and reinstalled the latest firmware twice, most recently after trying everything else I could think of.I have Cable internet, ALWAYS using wireless, NEVER using wired except for the router installs, which worked just fine until I switched from my old D-Link router to this 655 one a few weeks ago.Now, very frequently, I will open ANY webpage, and the internet will lag, 5, sometimes 10 or 15 seconds and then suddenly it will work properly for a while... only to happen again a little while later - completely randomly it seems.I wired the router to the computer to check to see if the lagging still happened, and everything was fine.I am using a 1-year old Dell laptop, using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit, and the Network Adapter is Intel WIFI Link 5300 AGN with the most up to date driver confirmed. Under the Advanced Tab for the Laptop's Network Adapter, the settings are as follows:

Under WAN, the Primary DNS Server numbers are showing and the Secondary DNS Server numbers are showing as 0.0.0.0 McAffee Anti-Virus is up to date and shows no viruses, nor to the Dlink Logs - McAffee Firewall is turned off, Enable SPI in Dlink Settings is turned on.this problem only occurred when I switched routers recently, the old DlInk router I had never had this issue. And I am using a completely different network name with this new router to avoid any conflicts there. And this problem does NOT occur when hardwiring the laptop to the router directly, it only happens via wireless.Storage of the router is fine, it is in the same spot as the old router was, not to hot, not too cold, it didn't eat any metal for breakfast and there are no MRI machines within 10 miles.

Used devices:
1x SRP 540 router
1x SG 300-10P managed switch
4x AP 541N accesspoint
What we want to do:
1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.
2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.
3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.
4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.
5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.
What we were able to do:
1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.
2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.
What we tried already:
1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.
2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.
ACS5.2 time sync breaking once in near around one month and not able to authenticate after that .I am using domain controller (Windows Server 2008 R2) as NTP server for ACS .
What is the reason for it , is there any bug in 5.2 release or do i need to configure a thired device and point as NTP for ACS and domain controller.

I looked up similar problems on this blog: a) cleared the DNS cache, b) downloaded windows XP- service pack 3, & 3 network software recommended for my laptop by Dell from the website and updated to the Intel PROSET/Wireless WIFI connection utility, d) ran ipconfig/all from C prompt and know the ethernet connections are disabled, e) called and checked with our local ISP and cleared the connection from their end. To sum it, I have tried everything I know and am still not able to maintain a steady connection to the net using WIFI. However I am able to connect using the cable to the router, so my net provider said the problem is with the wireless connection on the laptop. I didnt have this problem before.
