Wireless USB Network Card To Hardwired Router?

Mar 5, 2011

I have a laptop using a wireless Ralink USB card to connect to the internet. Is it possible to use the unoccupied Ethernet cable slot to hardwire into a router and use the router to send out the wireless signal picked up by the USB card to other devices?I know I shared my connection like this to my xbox 360 but wasn't sure if it could be used with a router.

Netgear WNDR3700 - Well Performing Card To Make Up No Hardwired Connection

Jul 2, 2011

I'm going to be moving into a place in the next couple months where I'll have to go wireless on my desktop (until now I've just done Ethernet so I don't even have a wifi card on my desktop). The router/modem aren't anywhere near my bedroom so my gear will be going wireless from now on All my devices are built-in wifi ready but not my desktop.

I would like recommendations as to a rock-solid, reliable, fast and well performing card as I can to make up for no hardwired connection. Especially with BF3 coming out I'm not all that thrilled with being forced into this situation but you gotta do what you gotta do. Anyhow, I'll be bringing my router (Netgear WNDR3700) so I'll have the range and speed from there about as good as I can get, so I'd like a card of equal merit.

One side note...probably not really feasible considering I want speed and performance as a priority, but I would love a card (if possible) without bullshit antennas sticking out of the case, or with external antennas you have to set up on your desk. I will go that route if I have to but man that is an aesthetic nightmare, IMO. The ones that stick out of the back of the case are the worst looking for me just as a caveat.

HP Pavilion Laptop Can Connect To Network But Not Internet-wireless Or Hardwired

My roommate has a HP pavilion that she has been trying to connect to our internet, and while it seems to be connecting to the network, it wont connect to the internet. Its running Vista, and I tried all the repairs that it prompted me to try, but could not resolve the issue.I know it isn't a internet problem, because the desktop is hardwired and we have two xbox's that connect wireless with no problems.Im not sure what info I should have included in this thread, but its my first post and wasn't sure what I needed to put.

Router Works Fine Hardwired But Not On Wireless

Jan 21, 2013

I can follow directions and am fairly tech-savvy, just don't have the time to troubleshoot this stuff and run my business. Here's the rundown:Router:Cisco Linksys E1000 V2

-working fine until I unplugged to move it and plugged it in
-verified with tech support the problem is not physical
-right now, am hardwired to the router, which is hardwired to the cable modem, and connectivity is fine through hardwiring
-no luck through wireless - this is the error message I get:

This webpage is not available:The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

Workgroup Works Great When Hardwired To Router / Doesn't With Wireless

Nov 28, 2012

I have a win7 desktop upstairs with all of my media on it.I also have a winXP laptop that I would like to use as a media center running xbmc connected to my tv downstairs.I have set up a workgroup so my laptop can access the media stored on my desktop and everything works great when they are both hardwired to my router (Linksys E3000).However, as soon as I unplug my laptop from my router and switch to the wireless connection I can no longer ping my desktop or access the shared folder (internet still works fine on the laptop, it just cant see my desktop anymore). If I plug it back in to the router, everything works again.

The exact error message I get when I try to access the shared folder is "\INFINITYMedia is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. [code]

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Download Speed When Hardwired To E4200?

Apr 14, 2012

Im trying to optimize my E4200 settings and Ive noted that ping and download speeds are extremely slow for the internet service I signed up for. Ping speeds are consistently more than 1000ms and dowload speeds typically are less than 3Mbps. These are for both wireless and wired connections to the E4200 router.

When I disconnect the router and hardwire my laptop directly to the the modem, ping speeds are less than 100ms and download speeds are 20Mbps.

Simply put, webpage loading is at a snails pace with wireless and wired connection the router, but blazing fast when hardwired directly to the modem.

On a seperate issue, the iMac I have is also **bleep** slow even when hardwired directly to the modem. Is there an obvious router setting Im screwing up?  Router is updated with the latest software.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 - Connect Ethernet Switch (for Hardwired Connections)?

Dec 29, 2011

In my main office, I have a cable modem which is connected to my main E4200 router. All of my equipment (except my Ooma) is served by the E4200. The E4200 broadcasts a wireless network. In my basement, I have a Wii / entertainment center. The E4200 signal from upstairs isn't strong enough to stream video.

I bought the WET610N and have successfully set it up to interact with the E4200 wirelss network. I can hardwire my laptop to the WET610N and verify the internet works greatHowever, the Wii must connect over wireless. I have other equipment in the basement which would benefit from an internet connection. So, I want to A) connect the ESXS88W 10/100 8-port workgroup switch I have to the WET610N *AND* also broadcast a wireless signal in my basement (assuming the wireless network I see in the basement is the same "old" one from upstairs which has not benefited from the WET610N).

How can I set up my WRT54G2 to broadcast a wireless signal in the basement so that it leverages the E4200 signal served by the WET610N, while also having the workgroup switch offer hardwired connections to my other equipment (like Dish Network receiver)? It doesn't seem to work by just plugging the WRT54G2 into the workgroup switch.

Will A 300mbps Wireless Card Slow Down A 450mbps Router / Network

Apr 10, 2012

I recently bought a router with 300+450mbps dual-band connectivity. I have a computer and am looking into buying a wireless n adapter. Should I buy a 450mbps-capable card? They cost much more than 300mbps cards and I'm not sure if the price difference is justifiable if current devices won't saturate all of the bandwith. Also, will a 300mbps card slow a 450mbps network down to "only" 300mbps?

But it seems after a few days it slows own again.

I always run speed test to verify, and it always runs back up at advertised speeds once i hard boot.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 Disabled And Enabled IPV6 On Network Card

Apr 9, 2013

I purchased a Linksys EA3500 about two months ago, brought it home and set it up with my DSL provider and everything was great, until sometime last week, and since then my download speeds have just plummeted to basically nothing. I did some troubleshooting but I cannot seem to find what the issue is. I have checked all the cables etc, and I know that it is definitely something with the router itself..My current Speedtest.net speeds are as follows (I am paying for a 5mb connection) with the EA3500.Ping of 15ms Download speed of .67mbps, Upload speed of .60mbps.When I remove the router and hook straight to the DSL modem I get the following results.Pink of 12ms Download speed of 4.89mbps, Upload speed of .60mbps

- I have tried to reset the router both by holding the reset button and through the configuration application.
- I have enabled and disabled wireless to see if that was slowing things down
- I have plugged in my old WRT54G and I get the 12ms, 4.89mbps,.60mbps results on it (so I know its the EA3500)
- I tried putting the computer in the DMZ
- I have changed the ports that the computer is plugged into
- I have disabled and enabled IPV6 on both router and network card
- Firmware version - 1.1.38.134141

Windows 7 And N Wireless Card Drops Network Connection?

Dec 27, 2011

I got my wife a new laptop in October, and it runs on windows 7, since the 25th of december she has been having connectivity issues with her wireless card. She had 2 bars on her signal strength, and I wanted to take the signal strenght out of the equation, so I got a N range booster to put in the room she is usually in, she now has a signal strength of 5 bars. However she still loses connection to the internet.

ISP is Bell Fibe 25 Router is the bell modem/router in one. My son's Laptop goes in that room, and has no issues. I have made sure the drivers are up to date on both the router/modem, and on the laptop itself. The only thing I cna think of is that it is the card itself that is faulty.
