I currently have a netgear 600 router transmitting both 2.4 Ghz signal and 5 Ghz signal but my laptop can only receive the 2.4 Ghz signal. My question is should I purchase a 5 Ghz signal wireless card and does the benefits outweigh the cost?

Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my wife a new laptop in October, and it runs on windows 7, since the 25th of december she has been having connectivity issues with her wireless card. She had 2 bars on her signal strength, and I wanted to take the signal strenght out of the equation, so I got a N range booster to put in the room she is usually in, she now has a signal strength of 5 bars. However she still loses connection to the internet.
ISP is Bell Fibe 25 Router is the bell modem/router in one. My son's Laptop goes in that room, and has no issues. I have made sure the drivers are up to date on both the router/modem, and on the laptop itself. The only thing I cna think of is that it is the card itself that is faulty.
My only issue at the moment and im not sure if im doing something wrong but the wireless card is Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 and it says it can do Wireless N Connection but im not able to get it connected to the wireless N network. When i go in to view the options it gives for Wireless Mode it says B/G or just B or G. Now up top it does say 802.11N Mode and has the option for Enable and Disable and its Enabled. I have uninstalled the driver and intel software and reinstall everything a few times but no resolve. How i need to get the card to connect to the N Network?

Works fine but I've recently upgraded my router to an N standard with dual channels operating at 2.4ghz and 5ghz, so I'd like to improve the the network options for my machine. Looking at the device manager, it says I'm using an Intel WiFi link BGN 1000 which operates at 2.4ghz.
What card if any I can install to bring about a speed improvement. Fiber broadband is also due in my area soon so I want to take advantage of this.
I have tried using Google and Yahoo! Answers to get an answer without much luck.But basically, what is the advantage (if any) of having 2 or 3 antennae on a PC wireless network card instead of just 1?

The first was "The default gateway is not available, the second was Local Area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration. Here's what Ive tried so far.I tried in safe mode. Ethernet works here so I assume is a software issue?Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. disabled and enabled, nothing..I tried going into configure network card and giving Network Address a random 12 digit value and that failed.Ive tried updating the drivers but I cant because Dell wants me to their download manager into the computer that has no internet to download the drivers /facepalm..I basically ran out of ideas. View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a router with 300+450mbps dual-band connectivity. I have a computer and am looking into buying a wireless n adapter. Should I buy a 450mbps-capable card? They cost much more than 300mbps cards and I'm not sure if the price difference is justifiable if current devices won't saturate all of the bandwith. Also, will a 300mbps card slow a 450mbps network down to "only" 300mbps?

My friend has a dell d600 with the built in intel wireless card. All of a sudden his computer no longer shows that there is a wireless interface in the computer and he needs this computer for work. I'm thinking the driver may need to be reinstalled but I'm not entirely sure if it's that or a hardware error that's causing this malfunction.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wireless network card is not detected by the system and wont show up in device manager. the green light on the back of the card is still blinking, so it is getting power through the mobo. Wireless network card was working perfectly before swapping out my video card for a new 7850 and swapping out my RAM modules. The drivers are Up to date. I'm running windows 7 and the wireless network card is an atheros AR5005GS.
I don't understand why installing new RAM and a new video card would affect this?? I didn't touch that card, and have double checked it is still seated properly.
I have no other way currently to connect this computer to the Internet.
I got DELL inspiron 1012 with built-in mini wireless card in windows 7 starter. The laptop could detect the card and I could connect to the internet until when I downgraded to windows XP service pack 3, and then it could not detect the card anymore. I downloaded all of the driver in DELL support site and installed them to the laptop but it sitll could not "see" the card. I checked in the Device Manager and did not see the folder "Network Adapter" at all.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe wireless on my laptop keeps dropping out. When I first got it it was fine, but after a while I started experiencing problems on every wireless network I connected to. Most of the time it would connect, but after around 10 minutes or so, the connection would drop out and the wireless card has to be "reset" so I can connect again. Otherwise I have a little yellow triangle over my network signal strength bars. I've updated to the latest drivers (14.2.0.10) but it was no luck.
This happens with every wireless network and I know it's not the network because my old Vostro 1500 is running just dandy on all of them.
I purchased a Linksys EA3500 about two months ago, brought it home and set it up with my DSL provider and everything was great, until sometime last week, and since then my download speeds have just plummeted to basically nothing. I did some troubleshooting but I cannot seem to find what the issue is. I have checked all the cables etc, and I know that it is definitely something with the router itself..My current Speedtest.net speeds are as follows (I am paying for a 5mb connection) with the EA3500.Ping of 15ms Download speed of .67mbps, Upload speed of .60mbps.When I remove the router and hook straight to the DSL modem I get the following results.Pink of 12ms Download speed of 4.89mbps, Upload speed of .60mbps
- I have tried to reset the router both by holding the reset button and through the configuration application.
- I have enabled and disabled wireless to see if that was slowing things down
- I have plugged in my old WRT54G and I get the 12ms, 4.89mbps,.60mbps results on it (so I know its the EA3500)
- I tried putting the computer in the DMZ
- I have changed the ports that the computer is plugged into
- I have disabled and enabled IPV6 on both router and network card
- Firmware version - 1.1.38.134141
I got a Studio 1535 Laptop which comes with a Broadcom WiFi card that is named "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card" in the Hardware Manager.
I tried to connect to my ZyXel WiFi router but though i had it all configured right, Windows would always come up with "you entered the wrong key". After playin around for some time i figured out that everything just works fine when i switched my router from WPA-PSK to WPA2-PSK. My router features both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK but since my other PC does only support WPA-PSK the router is set to that and i want it to stay that way. I just don't want to buy new hardware for all my other computers.
So is this WiFi card strictly incompatible with WPA-PSK? Does'nt make any sense to me because WPA2 works just fine! Normally they are downwards compatible aren't they? (Moreover, when setting up a connection i can choose WPA-PSK from the dropdown menu.

First off I could not get the card to work with the original drivers that came with the card so I updated the drivers. (The card's chipset is a Realtek RTL8192CE). After the driver update the card worked perfected until the BSOD's started completely at random. see attached image with description of BSOD.

The PC was running perfectly before we installed the card. Is there anything that I can do to solve the issue? Unfortunately I cannot test the card in my PC or my brother's as we both don't have PCI-E x1 slots. Also not sure the PC shop will take the card back.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have new Inspiron 1720 running Vista with the Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card. I will be connected to the wireless network just fine, but it will then disconnect. My problem is I cannot re-connect to it without having to do a total restart. I go to the place to refresh the list, and it finds nothing. I ask it to repair the network, and it can't becasue it cannot find a network. I have at least 4 other networks in the area that I can normally see, and none appear when I hit the refresh button. But I totally restart the system, and everything works fine again (until it drops again).

Internet is T1 - we have a modem, router, and switch in that order. One of my computers just stopped recognizing the network and has no internet. I have checked all the cables and know that the internet is running to the computer because I have a VOIP phone on the same line that works fine.The computer can recognize the Network card and says that it is functioning properly.All other computers are functioning properly and are all able to see the network and have internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAt first it seemed to happen everyday at the same time, but now seems completely random (happening twice a day somedays). At some part during the day while the user is busy with this system it drops the network connection. The ONLY way to get it back is by restarting via the reset button. Shutdown or even logoff just hangs. Nothing regarding that card will work or respond, you can not even disable and re-enable. I can however get the wireless to work without restarting. I've done everything I could possible think of including format and re-installing Windows. Something new I've noticed is that the user always has MS Access (in runtime mode) running while network goes down and then you can not end that process.

I replaced the motherboard & had to reinstall SBS 2003. Since doing this I can't get the server network card to connect. The machine does have 2 NIC's one for the server & one for the internet, neither of which will connect. I believe I have the IP address of both cards incorrect. Could someone tell me what the correct IP addresses (all of them) should be for a new install of SBS 2003? I know the IP address of the router & the service provider (AT&T), but these don't work. I do have a printout of the server when it was originally setup but it only give the server IP which is 192.168.2.1 I have put this address in the IP of the card but don't know what goes in the default gateway nor the perfered DNS
