I just moved into a new house.The house is wired with cat5e.my plan was to connect my cable modem to a multiport router. All of the cat5e cables will connect here. I planned on having my wireless router connect into a cat5e rj45 plug in the house. my laptop knows the wireless is there but it can't communicate.What do I need to do to allow communication?IP and subnet addressing

I have DOCSIS 3.0 modem and a Linksys E1000 wireless router with which I get reults from SpeedTest of 8.6 mps down, 1.57 mps up up from 15 mps service from cable provider. Connected to modem via ethernet cable produces 16.0 speeds. Do I need to upgrade the router or are my settings wrong?

When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.

The Cable ISP can ping the modem and gave me the IP address over the phone. I cannot ping the modem even when I take the router out of the loop. The network card (i1394) in the Laptop is functioning normally and I can see traffic on the modem (both the Cable Internet light and the PC activity light are flashing green) the ethernet port on the laptop is also flashing (amber). View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection.The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't get a new IP from my ISP when my Cable modem router(EPC3925) is set to router mode, i have tried factory restore, unplugged etc..but still no luck. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy desktop recently broke so i bought my first laptop. I have AT&T DSL and i bought a new D-Link DSL-2640B modem/router so i could have wireless internet. I installed it and i was able to use it with the ethernet cable, however when i tried to use wifi, it worked for only about 2 minutes before it disconnected.. Now when i try again it says that it is connected (full 5 bars) but it also says there is no internet access and i cannot use the internet.
Also, before, with the old modem i was able to just connect the ethernet cable to the laptop and just start using the internet. Now i have to connect by putting in my username and password provided by my ISP almost like if it was dial up. I don't know why i have to do this now but not before.

I just bought a WRT54GL router, and am following the CD instructions for installation. Everything is connected according to picture (cable to modem to router to computer), and my phone and computer are working properly. However, the router is telling me that it cannot connect, and to check the ethernet connection.earlier a screen popped up to enter a password, but it was under the checking status screen, so I was not able to enter one. how to get the modem connected.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi recently bought my dir-615 to hook up with my tp- td 8816 modem. After setting it up and successfully working one day, the router randomly stopped sending a WiFi signal. I restarted it twice and it began to work once more. I decided to install dd wrt build 21061 for my E3 dir -615 router. Unfortunately, i could not get it to work. I have dsl internet and my isp uses PPPoE. I used the option for the set up and filled out the appropriate information, but it would not work and the internet light on the router would turn orange.
Unfortunately i decided to play around with this router at the wrong time and the people in my house needed it. I decided to quickly re flash it by going into the emergency room(holding reset button during router reset until orange button starts blinking). However when i select the official d link firmware, it simply will not change. The page is stuck loading on the d-link emergency room page with no progression whatsoever. I tried the process 3 times already.
For some reason, i can connect to the router through WiFi but not through cable. When i connect through WiFi i am on the dd wrt firmware. I don't think i can return the modem to the store since it is clearly on DD WRT firmware.
I'm either looking for a solution to re flashing back to stock firmware, or making the internet work on the dd wrt firmware. The internet light turns orange when i select PPPoE on the set up...

I have 2 pcs running xp plugged into this wifi router. View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have a Westell 7500 Modem/Router with Century Link DSL. I've been running a couple of laptops and my wifi enabled TV on the wireless. A few days ago I got a new desktop PC (Windows 7) and plugged the ethernet cable into it. Everything was great but the wireless was a bit slow for the TV so I plugged that in with an ethernet cable too. No problems for a few days. Today, we had a power blip and everything reset and I noticed that the internet light on the modem was solid red and I couldn't access the internet on any machine (ethernet or wifi). I called the ISP who said there was an outage in the area. A few hours later, solid green light on the modem BUT the TV (ethernet connected), my iphone, and my laptops could NOT connect, despite the network showing up with a full signal. Oddly, my new PC, connected via ethernet was fine so I played some Diablo (side note). Here's the deal: the new PC connects just fine but nothing else will. If I unplug the ethernet cable to the PC or disable the LAN connection, the red internet light appears on the modem. It seems as though the PC has hijacked the modem in some way. Even the TV won't connect with the ethernet cable. The only way the internet works now is if the modem is connected to the new PC. I've done all the resents - unplugged the modem and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, accessed the router settings, etc etc. Why would this start happening now after everything was working well for several days and how do I fix it? I need the wifi connection! Update: Plugged my Macbook Pro into the ethernet cable (took it out of new PC) and it works.

He just got the home phone service from comcast and the phone line is setup through the modem. Ever since comcast came to his apartment and set this up the home phone service to his modem the router is connected but there is no internet access. What is going on and how can I fix this. I recently unplugged my DSL modem and this router to move them, and when I plugged them in again, the router stopped picking up the internet signal from the DSL modem. I'm able to get internet when I hardwire directly to the modem though. I tried resetting the router and setting the router up from scratch again, but now I just get error 321 Ethernet cable not connected when I try and run the setup cd.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI used to have this exact setup with 2 wrt610ns i believe was the model number, i have one at my house, connected to my dsl, and then another in my "man cave" connected by a approximately 250 foot buried outdoor cat6 cable, inside of conduit of course. Last week both routers along with my modem were fried during a storm, so now i rebuilt the network with 2 e4200s, i hooked everything up and b4 i even had a chance to set my network up like i had to do b4 (a 192.168.10.1 subnet in the mancave) everything was already getting internet, however i cannot access the web based setup for the 2nd router (mancave) the dhcp client table shows it with an address of 192.168.1.139. even if i disconnect, reset the 2nd router and set it up on a 192.168.10.1 address as soon as i connect it to the main router, it goes right back to the .1.139 ip address. the only problem i have with this is that i would like to have the freedom to change my wifi passwords or edit other settings on my network without having to disconnect from the main router everytime, assuming that will work and i wont have to do a hard reset in order to get the router back to a default ip. the cable connecting the 2 routers goes from a lan port on the 1st router to the internet port on the 2nd.

I had a working LAN/WLAN for my home & home office, and the modem I was using got fried by the storm. Strangely enough nothing else was affected..Anyway, I went out and bought an identical modem, and had it set up with Comcast. If I connect directly to the modem, everything works perfectly. But when I try to attach my router to the new modem, I have no connectivity over wifi OR hardwired to the router. According to the status light on the router, it can't find a connected modem.I reset the router back to factory settings, installed the newest firmware, and moved my DHCP pool out of the default range. I then power cycled the whole setup - twice - with no success.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought an ASUS Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless-N 600 Router (RT-N56U) to upgrade from my older router but I'm having a problem: It won't connect to my cable modem (via the WAN ethernet port), so I can't connect to the internet. [URL]
When I connect the router to my computer via ethernet cable, the light on the ethernet port of the router comes on (an orange LED light), but when I connect my cable modem (or computer) to the the router through the WAN ethernet port, the WAN port's LED does not come on at all and I keep getting an error message on my browser saying that I need to make sure the ethernet cable is connected.
I've tried three different ethernet cables, including the one that came with the router, with no luck (WAN LED lights never come on, so I assume that this means that there is no activity at all). I've also tried cloning the MAC address, restoring to factory default, updating the routers firmware, and holding the reset button on the modem for 15 seconds, among other things.
Also, something that might be worth noting: While one end is connected to my modem, if I plug the ethernet cord into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the router, the green LED instantly turns on but, as I said before, there's no activity when plugged into the WAN port. My modem is an Arris TM052G (DOCSIS 2.0) provided by my ISP, Time Warner Cable.
My New comcast cable modem will connect to the internet, as i am connected to it by ethernet right now, but my netgear router will not recognize it and get a link to the internet to get my existing LAN back up.
